T500 20552CU BIOS Update and Hotfix KB937500

Hello,
I am using a T500 with a quite old BIOS (1.13-1.0) and now I want to update it,
the installation notes suggest the following:
"If you use Windows Vista, before applying this BIOS into the system, you should install Windows Vista KB 937500. The information of KB937500 is located at Microsoft's Web site."
But I cannot install the hotfix, the Update Manager tells me that this Hotfix is not applicable to my system.
So can I update my BIOS without this hotfix?
Thanks!

From the information in Microsoft's description of KB937500, that hotfix applies to Vista pre-SP1:
" Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Vista Service Pack 1."
If your system has Vista SP1, that's probably why the hotfix will not install.

  • Bios update and nothing happens

    Hello all
I just brought a MSI GP70 02PE laptop. I decided to update the bios and I did. No problems at all. However, after update, when I turn on the laptop, nothing happens. The screen wont turn on and the power buttion is orange. I can hear it starts up, but nothing happens. Am I or is there a reason why it does what it?? Can I somehow undo the bios update?

it would be better if you open laptop disconnect battery and hold power button in for aprox 30 seconds to 1 min that should kill power fully in motherboard and have BIOS reseted or something so it will make laptop boot again
Also make sure you did not flash the windows 7 bios on a windows 8.1 GS70 2PE since it even warns you on their site that cross flashing can cause you to brick the laptop so make sure you flashed Windows 8.1 bios on a windows 8.1 laptop and windows 7 bios on a windows 7 laptop
Just tried that, doesnt work. And I did use the 8.1 bios . But ill let it be over the night and will check tomorrow . Is there a battery inside the laptop I can take out?? Or is that a suicide mission??

  • Bios updated and now K8N Neo won't boot? FIXED!

Successfully restored from backup (after some hassles!), but thanks to everyone who helped.
Having messed with the bios some more, I *think* I now know what the problem was.  And *blush*, I think it was my fault all along *blush*.
I think I had one of the drives selected at the top in Hard Disk Boot sequence, instead of the SCSI - Raid Array.
That would mean it was only reading half the MBR at boot time which would kindof explain the problems I was having.
Still, we live and learn.  Thank God for backups!
    Cheers all
    Chippy
I hope someone can please help me?
I just upgraded my K8N Neo2 bios from 1.4b to Easybios 1.3c (or whatever its called).
I took all the proper precautions and the bios update itself has worked just fine. My system is "working" OK.
However, I can't boot. The system POSTs fine, detects the raid0 array just fine and then falls over with an MBR 1 error and an MBR 3 error.
I booted from the XP install CD and loaded up recovery console, and I can log on to the array. The array and all data is fine.
So it looks like its just the MBR record that is screwed. Is this because of some incompatibiliy between my old and new bios?
And anyway, please does anyone know how to fix it? I suppose I can try to rebuild the MBR somehow, but I don't know how. And I really DO NOT want to risk losing all of the data on the array. Yes, I have a full back up, but I don't want to end up having to rely on it!
Has anyone seen this problem before when doing a bios update? And any ideas how to fix it?
(I guess I could flash back to 1.4b, but I really would like a later bios version to go with my new - as yet untested - Opty 146).
    Thanks

Thanks for the tip, Doc.  But I have entered the bios settings from scratch.
I can try it again, but why do you think that might work?  There really aren't two many sata and raid settings to make - all you have to do is enable the two channels (sata3 and sata3) and then enable them also in the raid menu.  That's it.  And the board "sees" the raid array just fine, its just it won't boot anymore.  I can read and write to the array no problem from Windows Recovery Console, so I conclude that the hardware is all working properly.  I think its an MBR incompatibility issue between the two bios versions... or maybe MBR corruption.
I seem to remember some people having problems with this a year or so ago when upgrade this bios from 1.4 to 1.5.  Some people were having to do complete Windows reinstalls to fix it.  That was why I didn't update my bios sooner.
But I asked around this time and it seemed those problems had been resolved.
    Seems I was mistaken!
    Any other thoughts / suggestions?
    Thanks

    Any idea?
    Thanks you in advance!

It's bad news that you may have corrupted your BIOS, even though you used the boot CD update method.
Regardless, you can try all these steps first:
    Computer will not turn on
If nothing above works, see these intructions, and try to work your way through them for your make of BIOS. The BIOS.ROM file they mention, should be on your BIOS update CD.

  • T500 after BIOS update no finger reader

    Hi,
It's always worth trying a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook. Tap away at f10 as soon as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

  • Motherboard and processor, BIOS update and board capability

Hi there,This is my 2nd topic for same problem. I didn't get an answer which is not enough. So this is the problem.
I have issue about updating processor. This is my PC
    HP Pro 3010 Microtower PC
    Model #: WB636ES
    BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 5.11, 29.09.2009
    Motherboard:
    Pegatron Corporation
    Model: 2A94h
    Brand: American Megatrends Inc.
    I'd tried to update my processor with these;
    Intel® Pentium® Processor E6500 (2M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 1066 FSB)
    Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q8200 (4M Cache, 2.33 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
    Intel® Pentium® Processor E6700 (2M Cache, 3.20 GHz, 1066 FSB)
For my investigation they are compatible with my motherboard. I found a website which motherboards specs are listed. http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/pegatron-2a94h-motherboard-specs-3272011h24/As you can see Intel Core 2 Quad (Yorkfield), Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo (Kentsfield) are supported. But when everytime i try any processor, PC is not booted and no vision on my monitor and motherboard gives LONG 9 or 10 More beeps. So i go on with my Intel E5300 processor which is default one.
I had tried everything but there maybe only solution is updating BIOS. I'm not sure about it. So i ask you?
My board BIOS version is 5.11. In HP site when i enter my model number, 5.17 version BIOS update appears to download. I am scared to update BIOS. Is there any option there to make work new processor properly? Do i have to update my BIOS? Meanwhile all of Core2 Quad processors have 4MB, 6MB, 8MB, 12MB cache. If everthings gonna fine, these processors work normal? (It seems that my motherboard supports 2MB cache, i guess or read it somewhere) Best Regards

Hi, Your question was asked and answered.  Only the processors that HP listed listed for your PC will have the best possibility of working in your PC.  Please stay on your original thread.

  • BIOS Update and now fan is running constantly

I got a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC last week and have just been prompted to install a BIOS update. When it was installing the update the fans turned on and were deafening.
It's installed the update, restarted itself a few times, etc.
However the fan is now running constantly and is extremely annoying. It's not blasting out by any means and is probably nowhere near how quick and loud it could be. But this is a brand new laptop and the fan shouldn't be running - all I'm doing is browsing the internet.
What has this update done and how can I turn the fan off (I presume it will turn itself on when the heat inside the laptop requires it).
    Cheers

Hello foxyjohn. I understand you are experiencing an issue where the fan is always running quickly after a BIOS update. The fan should not be running quickly, based on the information you have provided. I would like you to follow the troubleshooting in this document: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03620929
Although the title of the document is "System Fan (90b) error message on startup", the troubleshooting steps presented are relevant and effective. These steps likely will not resolve the issue. However, it will prove that you are not coincidentally experiencing a hardware issue. If these steps do not resolve the issue, you can reference this document on how to access the BIOS: h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=bph07110
The document should also inform you on how to manipulate the fan settings, in the BIOS. If you still find it difficult to navigate the BIOS, you can reference this thread for further information: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/276338-29-control-speed
If you cannot resolve the issue, I would like you to respond with the following information:

  • Z87M Gaming Mobo - BIOS Update and now won't post

    Hello all...
Firstly I have had a read through the messages here and it is looking like I may have damaged the board by attempting a BIOS update using the update tool in the BIOS!?
    Anyhow here is what happened......
I setup my system below and everything was booting happily with no problems at all.
I could not seem to get my SSD to be recognised by the mobo (windows install could see the SSD but could not install OS as mobo controller did not recognise it).  I downloaded the 1.2 version of the mobo BIOS, extracted this to USB drive and used the update feature in the BIOS to flash.
I selected the option for BIOS and Management Engine and the BIOS upgrade reported successfully flashed. The PC re-stared successfully a couple of times but on 1 boot it said it was updating or flashing the Management Engine, a percentage bar completed and that was the last time the PC booted successfully.
I have tried clearing the CMOS using the CMOS clear button and the CMOS jumper but this has made no difference.
The power is there and the PC switches on but it wont post and is showing nothing on the debug LED's.
I have tried removing all components but same outcome.
The PSU is brand new and the fact that everything was working fine before the flash update (including the Gskill RAM btw) I feel the flash has caused this.
However, I would very much appreciate some advice from some experienced MSI mobo users
    Thanks

I did try this with just the board and nothing, no post at all :(

  • Helix bios update and firmware issue

Hello. I recently had an issue - my keyboard dock stopped working entirely and I had the fan issue. I installed the firmware update and also updated my bios - with success, the keyboard dock now works.,
The first time I restarted my Helix 3xxx series.... it didn't work.
The issue I received is on windows 8.1. I loaded, logged in... and received a black screen. The cursor was there, and I could do CTRL-ALT-DEL, but nothing else loaded.
I looked it up, and previous lenovo laptops had this issue when upgraded to 8.1 - black screen, cursor, nothing else.
The issue with those laptops was with an AMD display driver - but I do not possess said driver. After going through their solutions many times, nothing works. I can run it in safe mode with networking, but trying to run standard is without fail. I updated my display drivers with no luck.
I don't know what caused it besides the apparent bios/firemare update. I do not know what else to try.
I can't even do a system restore because I dont have a USB drive to do it with.

F.23 is F.23 despite the discrepancy in the release dates. You have the latest BIOS.

Hi guys, can anyone tell me if there is a way to update the BIOS on that Laptop or a way to make Wake-on-Lan work on this Laptop? Thank You

I'm fairly certain that there is not.  HP locks out certain features from the BIOS, and there isn't much you can do to get them back.

  • BIOS update and RIAD settings

Will updating the BIOS on my 925X Neo change/erase/alter my current RAID settings? I'm in a RAID mirror setting now. I'd like to update the BIOS as long as doing so won't change any of the settings I have now. Thanks for you help!

Is your RAID Intel ICH6's RAID or external embedded RAID? If it's embedded RAID, no it will not change. If it's Intel ICH6 RAID, all you need to do is to make sure it's enabled n the BIOS (same as embedded RAID), and then go to the RAID setup again to restore your RAID settings if necessary.
In other words, flashing BIOS will not change your RAID settings as long as you put back your settings back.
