T500 2242 Thinkpad - hooking up to TV to watch & listen to a video on my laptop

I do not have S-Video out port or audio jack ports.  Does anyone know how I can go about hooking up my laptop to my TV so I can watch and listen to a video off my laptop, but through my TV?

You have a display port which shold work with newer HDTVs. You can get an adapter that converts to DVI for DVI monitors.

  • T500 2242-4FU Keyboard and other questions

    Hi.
I am considering buying a used T500 2242-4FU and wanted to know if this model has the updated, sturdier keyboard.
If not, is it possible to upgrade it to the better keyboard?
I currently use the Z60M and would like to know if the keyboard, which is what I buy Thinkpads for, will be comparable.
    Thanks

    Way to oversize your font.
The T500 and Z60 keyboards are compatible. If the model you get has the lightened keyboard, you can just buy a solid-backed one elsewhere.

  • T500 2242 ENTER/TAB key dilemma

    Good morning everyone,
I have a user in our Marketing department that uses a T500 2242 with a mini docking station having a very peculiar issue with their laptop.
Anytime the user goes to login - (Windows XP Pro SP3) (Joined to a domain, running Win Server 2k3) (32bit platforms) she has to restart multiple times before getting response from her enter or tab key, and the key that decides to fail is random but eventually becomes both.
Are there any Lenovo hotkeys that trigger this or something?  Even when connecting her wireless keyboard mouse through USB, she is having these issues, on the third party keyboard/mouse!
    There's something a miss here.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks everyone!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
I have seen a similar situation with a Bluetooth Mouse and keyboard, what could not connect properly to the system.
The fix was to restart BIOS (load the default settings) and in one case also BIOS udate.
About the Enter and TAB key, this might be something strange. If you ahve time to test this, then try to boot into Save mode (press F6 by system start) and check if also here is the same situation.
If not, then there is some other applicaiton blocking , or from my own expeience I can tell, that this might be an application, that is loading and "run" into some timeout error.
So surelly also check what all is configured for the startup.
    Cheers

  • Thinkpad T500 Wireless Driver Issue in Windows 7

The subject pretty much says it all.
I've installed Windows 7 (x64) and everything is working fine with the exception of my internal wireless adapter. I've tried all the Windows 7 drivers provided and also tried the Vista drivers (x64 when applicable). Still nothing. It's (as far as I know) the Thinkpad internal wireless as opposed to any of the Intel ones.
To rule out a few things, yes I've checked to make sure it's enabled in the BIOS, and I'm certain the wireless switch is on.
Anyone have any ideas or similar fixes?
Should it help, my exact model number is: (T500) 2242-CT0

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Try this, install the Hotkey Features, do a mandatory reboot, thereafter press Fn-F5 to radio on the wireless device, once that's done install the wireless driver.
Would be a good idea to check in the BIOS if the card is enabled in there.
    Let us know the outcome.

  • Thinkpad T500 display error

    Hello,
I have a serious problem with my new Thinkpad T500 NK145GE: If I view something with fast motion (e.g. a video clip from a concert, with spotlights etc.), I can see vertical break. Here is an example of it: Example
This break is not static or in the middle of the TFT. There might be several of them at the same time.
I can reproduce this problem on Windows Vista Business (with both graphic cards) as well on on Ubuntu Intrepid (for both graphic cards as well). I also tried diverse video programs - all have the same problem.
I must admit that I am quiet unhappy about this problem. My old laptop (4 years) has no problems with its TFT (the same resolution and size) at all.
    Best regards

  • T500 - Intermittent Boot Hang and not able to Reboot

Hey folks.  I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T500 (2242-35U) here that is having a bit of trouble.
First off, its very intermittent to get it to boot.  When I press the power button to start it, it goes through its regular post, and then right before it should start booting off of the hard drive or dvd drive, it hangs with just the blinking cursor.  Trying different boot media like a hard drive, bootable cd/dvd disk or even a bootable usb stick all result in the same.
However, once every 5-6 times, I get lucky and it starts to boot.  Once I was finally able to boot off of a bootable diagnostic cd, I ran hardware checks, and it appears that everything checks out.
Another issue with it is that it doesn't do a reboot properly.  No matter if i'm into the operating system doing a Restart option, or at the boot hang mentioned above, pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete, the screen goes blank and it stays there until I forcefully power off and power back on.  Even during my install of the operating system, when the setup reboots several times, i've had to forcefully power it off, and then try numerous times to get it to boot back up again.
I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 x86 enterprise, and updated the bios to its latest version, doesn't appear to change anything.
The unit is currently out of warranty.  Is there anything else I can try with this?  I am an authorized service provider for Lenovo, I just don't know where to go to from here, and any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thank you.

Alright, got a chance to test it more over the weekend...
    - I went into the BIOS, and disabled everything I could find.  Even went as far as pulling the hard drive back out again and the optical drive, and tried booting from a USB stick.  Exact same issue, took a bunch of tries for it to finally boot.
    - Enabled just the essential stuff I would need on the laptop, same issue
    - I don't see any mention of Turbo Memory in the BIOS or product page for this model, so I will assume that it does not have it.
I guess the problem is something with the motherboard.  But, at over a couple hundred dollars, I don't think its really worth the money to replace it at this point seeing that the notebook is still completely usable, once it boots .
Thank you all for your help and suggestions either way.

  • Buying Thinkpad without Operating System

Do you know when will be possible to buy a Thinkpad with NO operating System installed and
    NO third party software?
    Do we have a chance?

As for me I do not see the point of buying (or selling for that matter) a computer wihtout OS. If you want to install other OS, such as Ubuntu or other variety of GNU Linux and make your computer crippled (with poor power managment, many nonfunctioning buttons, less choice of software etc.) then you are free to do it. I cannot see how the existence of a preinstalled OS can do any harm. I would agree that it is sad that Lenovo does not offer ThinkPad with preinstalled SUSE. However, if they made such a decision it is obvious that the reason was that nobody cared to buy those machines. So customers have passed their vote after all.
Just for the record. I am by no means a fan of Microsoft (it is rather opposite) but so far I cannot deny that there is no viable alternative to windows on PCs today as linux is too far from being redy to replace it (I know, I have checked the state of the things in linux world quite recently and must say that things still look very unprofessional and crippled in comparison to either OSX or Vista.

  • Is the T500 still the flagship?

I ask because I'm in the market for a replacement for my venerable and rather past-it T42 but Lenovo doesn't make the machine I want: Dell does. As a long-time ThinkPad user, I'm reluctant to go that - but I do need a new laptop. Will Lenovo be making a T500 with an LED backlit screen anytime soon, for instance?

Lenovo already offers T500 with LED. As for flagship I really do not know. Sometime it looks like Lenovo has focused their attention to X series with its vecerable X301 which looks really premium product  with premium price. However, T500 still is worth of the money, as far as I am concerned although I still prefer the older T61.
But if you think that Dell works better for you the go for a Dell. I pondered about buyng Dell myself a couple of months ago but decided that it would not work as good for me as T61.

  • T500 Startup/Video Issues

    I have a Lenovo T500 with a 2.8 GHZ Processor, 6GB RAM and 300 GB HD.
It has the Intel card as well as the Radeon 3650 card.
What would happen is the screen would go blank after the "Starting Windows" screen, and then the computer would restart.
I looked in Event Viewer and saw tons of video errors, so I uninstalled the video cards. You'd think they'd reinstall, right?
    No.
Also, the drivers kept getting uninstalled, for the Richoh Card/MMC, Power Management drivers, etc. I figured those might be interfering with the computer starting up properly. Fixing startup was a hassle, as the Windows CD wouldn't boot past the Starting Windows screen...and said I didn't have the proper version of Windows..but I did. Eventually, rebullding the BCD in Safe Mode helped.
WELL, I just reinstalled all of the "Unknown drivers" again and reinstalled the 3650 card and restarted. All of the unknown drivers were back and the video card wasn't present in Device Manager. So, I did a system restore, because I had just made a restore point before restarting after I tracked down all of the "unknown drivers".
The System Restore happened....and now...after the Thinkpad screen...it goes blank. And stays that way. The "Press any key to boot from CD" doesn't come up...as the screen is just blank. I can only boot into the BIOS.  Even F8 doesn't bring up the other startup options (Safe Mode, Directory Services, Last Known Good Configuration, etc) There's only so much I can do in the BIOS that has to do with the video drivers giving me so much trouble.
Is there any way, I can fix this? I've never heard of this happening and didn't understand why the drivers kept uninstalling and why my video driver wouldn't work. And when I say the screen goes blank...the laptop starts up....the "Press the blue Thinkpad button" screen comes up...and the screen doesn't turn off...just nothing shows up. I was going to do a repair install and just reinstall my drivers, but seeing as I can't get past the Thinkpad loading screen...or even boot from CD to do a fresh install, I am completely at a loss.

If anyone else ever has this problem, here's what I did:
When it wouldn't boot past the Starting Windows screen, I restarted, pressed F8 after the Thinkpad Screen and booted into safe mode with networking and ran "msconfig" as an admin and removed everything from services that wasn't Microsoft and removed every startup program.
As for booting up blank...I opened the laptop up, removed the RAM, removed the CMOS battery for a few minutes, removed the battery and plug and pressed down on the power button, put them all back in...and it booted up with the screen on.
I then, pressed F1 to get into the BIOS. I selected Internal/Integrated Graphics and disabled "Switchable graphics".
Through trial and error, and looking on here, I've realized my AMD Radeon 3650 card is dead. When Switchable Graphics is on in the BIOS, I cannot boot past the Thinkpad screen. I am not surprised. Laptop has been shutting down when I watched Youtube or Tumblr videos and games have been crashing.
Unfortunately, I have to use the Intel 4 Series Driver. However, I am using a modded driver that seems to let me play games. I will report back on if I still have overheating issues. Thanks ColonelOneill!
Your suggestion was the step to being able to boot and I really appreciate it.

  • T500 - Replacing video card

I recently bought a T500 @ $1.3k but the video card it came with is a mere 265mb Radeon HD 3650, is it possible to replace this video card (and what are some cheap/effective alternatives if I wanted gaming?)
P.S.- How accurate are the estimated shiping days? I can't wait 10 days!!!...
Message Edited by arcainic on 05-19-2009 02:29 AM

No, You cannot upgrade the graphics card. Unfortunately Thinkpad's aren't designed for gaming. I however think you'll be pleasantly surprised that the 3650 is a decent graphics card. Not top of the line, but definetly holds it's own. Of course, with Thinkpad's battery life and build quality are through the roof so the laptop will make up for it in other areas.

  • Getting A T500

    Hi All,
And just found this forum so I joined. Lots of good stuff here I may need. Needed an extra laptop and although I've used Dell Latitudes for years and was planning on getting another.... I sprung for a Lenovo T500. Everything I've read tells me it is solid and good for my usage which is mainly Word, internet, and researching. I've read the keyboard is excellent for typing too.
I'm not a power user. I do usually keep my laptop on 12 hours a day, everyday and it usually sleeps 2 hours during that time. And it's on a cooling tray with a big fan. Any heat problems with these at all?
Are there any basic do's and don'ts with the T500 specific to it? If not I'll probably have some questions when I get it next week. It has no OS and I'll install Windows 7, though it has a Vista Business COA....I like 7 better. Much.
Any advice or good T500 threads please point me there,  Cheers, Jack

    Hi Jackzz,
Hope you enjoy your T500 as much as I have. Since you sound like you will be starting from a blank hard drive, you will need access to the Lenovo specific drivers for your machine.
Please bookmark this URL which points to the Downloads and Drivers page for the T500 machine. You will need it often:
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t50...
Depending upon your machine type (look for a sticker on the underside of the machine with format such as: 2241-DB9) your T500 can have quite a variety of internal components. Download the Windows 7 version of System Update, and let it update all Lenovo customized drivers that are applicable to your particular machine. You can get it from the following URL:
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht080136
Note: Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.0 or above is required for System Update to work correctly.
Download, and keep as reference, the System Update 5.0 Deployment Guide at URL:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/tvsu5_mst_en.pdf
    Other useful bookmarks:

ThinkVantage Technologies Administrator Tools at URL: http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/documents/ht037099
The T500 has volume controls at the top left of the keyboard. For them to work properly (a volume bar appears on the screen when you press them), you need the following pieces of software.
    Install Lenovo Power Management Driver.
This package is a prerequisite to the On Screen Display (OSD).
System Update should install at least version 1.67.04.05.
Install ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration Utility.
The following are sub-components of the ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration Utility:
       - On Screen Display
       -  ThinkPad FullScreen Magnifier
       - Lenovo System Interface Driver
       - Lenovo Patch Utility
System Update should install at least version 3.89.0000.
Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.
This package is a prerequisite to the On Screen Display (OSD).
Manually install the 32 bit version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package, even on a 64 bit   version of Windows 7, if Microsoft Update has not installed it before hand.
Reboot the computer for the package to take effect.
    Install ThinkPad Power Manager.
System Update should update to at least version 6.66.3.
Please note that without a Lenovo preload, that includes the recovery Q drive, you probably will not be able to use the Rescue and Recovery backup and restore software that you will see references to on the Lenovo site. You would need to have started from a set of Lenovo T500 Windows 7 recovery DVD’s to get that Q drive.
Good luck and keep us informed.

  • T500: Access Connections and windows wifi management issue PostPosted: Fri Oct 29, 2010 2:31 pm

    Hello all,
This is my very first post here so please beare with me.
    My T500:
    Product: ThinkPad T500 2056-AK5
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (but same problem on Ultimate x64)
    Original description: Based 2056-4RG: T9400(2.53GHz), 3GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI Radeon HD3650, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 9c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
The wifi NIC is Intel 5100 AGN, the gigabit is 82567LM. I bought also an Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband modem. All are working as supposed.
The win7 is freshly installed from recovery dvd's, all updates, both Lenovo and Micro$oft are up to date.
The problem: Access connections seems to be "behind" the automated wifi management of windows 7. I have two, three profiles saved for may home wifi network, my office wifi network and so on. My home network has settings like 192.168.7.xx, no encryption, only MAC registration, the office network has 192.168.4.xx, encryption WPA, therefore a switch is needed everyday between these.
The problem is that AC doesn't do that, eventually doesn't even switch between locations at all. In AC->Tools location switching is properly set up
The T500 connects let say at home, then when I starts in the office it connects to the office network but still using my home IP (192.168.7.xx) even if I saved in the profiles different IP numbers for both location. I have tried stopping the windows wifi connection service but then AC stop either.
This seems to me like windows try and force reconnect to the new network with the old settings, even before AC could interfere with its settings saved in profiles.
Only 2 things I can do:
    1. in windows' wireless network and sharing center I choose to start manually these networks, then start them manually from AC;
    2. Stop the network as connected automatically by windows (with wrong IP settings) then restart it from AC;
Both these are frustrating because my good old T60 running winXP did this automatically, without my inference.
Could anyone help me out of these, please?

I had similar problems with my T400.  AC would refuse to even show my access point most of the time.   I finally gave up and uninstalled AC.  The Windows 7 wifi management works just fine, but no profiles
Others on this forum smarter than me insist that AC works with Windows 7, just not for me.  It worked perfectly when running XP on this T and on my T61.
If you dump AC, do the basic wifi functions work for you?
