Regards,
Kasper

Hi kasperxb,
Welcome to the Lenovo forum!
Are you still having the USB problem? If so - is the port that fails to power on, one of those built into the dock, or one on your T500? What USB devices do you have plugged in?
Best regards,
Frank

Which iMac USB port is high power?

I'm not sure this is the case, at least on the newer iMacs. Some ports will adequately power some devices (most notable the USB Suerdrive) while others won't. Or, this has been the case recently, anyway; USB with Apple devices seems hopelessly arcane anyway, which makes no sense at all!)

  • Will the PB G4 USB-ports provide sufficient power for external HDD ?

I am in the market for a 2,5in external HDD, preferably powered through the USB-ports of my PB G4. However, I have read that in many cases, Apple's laptops provide insufficient power for such devices. Is this a fact?
The drive I'm currently looking at: Western Digital Passport 120GB USB2.0 (WD Passport WDXML1200UE)

Dear Thosen, yep this can be a problem with the 12' models, I think that there are adaptors, that use both USB ports, one of power and one for data transfer. The other option is to try a firewire drive - this has the added advantage of being bootable.

  • USB port fails

I cannot believe this: never has a USB port failed on any technical object I have owned.
Now, when I place any cable into the mini USB port on the Playbook, there is no reaction.
    That is a disaster, what?
    Anyone else had this happen?
Returning it on Tuesday, after the long weekend, to see what Telus will do, considering that they have ceased selling RIM Playbooks.

  • Hp pavilion usb ports failed

My hp pavilion HPE series model  h8-1280t running Win 7 (and out of warrenty) has 6 usb ports on the back. The top two prots have failed. They were working and I started to get "device not connected" from my APC battery backup unit. I had ti un-plug / re-plug the usb cable to get it working. Then it failed completely.
When you plug in a memory stick the memory stick light comes on for a couple seconds and then goes out. The computer/op sys does not recognize the presence of the mempory stick or the fact that it was unplugged.
I have upgraded drivers and did a power down / re-boot, still not working.

Take a look in the device manager to see what the error code is? (look at the Universal Serial Bus Contrioller section at the bottom of the device manager snapin)
Did you try reinstalling the chipset driver?
If that did not help, then the least expensive option other than replacing the motherboard would be to install a PCIE-x1 usb adapter card. Some examples are in the following NewEgg URL.

  • USB ports have no power

It first started happening on my Late 2012 model iMac 21.5" a couple weeks ago.
What I found was that nothing seemed to work when connected directly to the iMac's USB ports. However, if you attach an externally powered USB hub, then all devices attached to the hub will work. So, it seems as if the USB ports are still working, but without power.
After I was able to get my USB keyboard to work using the powered hub, I was able to zap the PRAM by holding command-option-P-R while powering on, and then magically everything was back to working again. Unfortunately, this was short lived as the problem has resufaced again for me.
Has anyone else seen a problem like this? Do I need to send it back to Apple for warranty repair?

Call AppleCare & tell them exactly what you stated in your post.

  • Mac Pro USB ports constantly losing power!

    Hi,
Ive been looking through  this forums but I havent been able to find a solution to my problem.
Ive got a 2008 Mac Pro and recently Ive been experiencing some issues with its USB ports.
The front usb ports have a USB antenna connected and some time later, it just loses power and I have to disconnect it and connect it  in order to make it work again. Besides that, Ive got a  USB hub connected in one of the back ports. In it, is my camera and my keyboard. After some time, it just loses power. Not at the same time than the usb antenna, but in less that an hour I have to repeat the process 2-3 times.
Worth to note, that in the two back usb ports left, Ive got an external hard drive in each and I dont have problems, there are always seen in the finder.
    Some help would be great
    Thanks in advance

    Im running latest snow leopard.
I gave up and just used a cable for internet and a bluetooth keyboard.
I couldnt figure out why the usb antenna loses power. Though it still has a blue light linking.
What has been happening to you???

  • USB ports -- not enough power error

Hello, I tried to connect my blackberry phone to my Mac Powerbook, running leopard, and on the phone's screen, it warned me that there was not sufficient current or power in the USB to use it. It told me to make sure that the drivers were installed. What's wrong?

  • HP Pavilion dv6 2670qm - Windows 7 - USB ports do not power iPAD mini

All of my USB ports work fine with media drives and to connect to my Android phone.
My problem is that they don't provide power to my iPAD mini. i spent 45 minutes at the Apple store uninstalling the Apple mobile drivers and iTunes and re-installing them.  The Apple tech recommended that course of action. Unfortunately it made no difference, still no power to the iPAD mini. My iPAD mini and cable work with other laptops but not my dv6 2670qm.
My iPAD mini has never worked on my laptop.
    Any Suggestions?

    Hi Super Mario,
Thank you for your quick reply.  In the second paragraph of my post, I noted that the iPad mini and cable work with other laptops, both x86 and Apple (tested at home and the Apple store).  It works for charging and iTunes on all of the other computers we have tried.  Neither of those functions work on the HP dv6, in fact be iPad doesn’t even indicate that there is not enough power or that it is an incompatible port (the error messages referenced in the article).  It does nothing at all when plugged into the dv6’s USB ports.
The Apple article you referenced indicates that the USB port must be at a certain power level.  Can you confirm the power level for the USB ports on the dv6 Intel 2670qm?  It seems like a lot of people have trouble with the USB ports on the dv6 based on the posts.  Can you think of any other explanation for in the non-recognition of the iPad mini?
    Thanks again.

  • X1 Carbon USB Port Failed

Month old Carbon X1 left USB port stopped working.
Is this a failed port or do we need to press keyboard sequence or re-install driver ?
If it's the driver.... Which one is it ? Chipset or specific driver ?

    @jobock...
Looking at the dates of the posts in that thread (early 2013), it is likely the 1st generation X1 Carbon being described. Machine type 20A7 is the 2nd generation. Just want to clarify the significant difference to avoid confusion.

  • Which USB port for extra power for external Superdrive?

I just bought an external USB slimline optical drive that doesn't use AC power, instead it comes with a USB Y-connector so that it can use two USB ports for power.  I can't really spare the extra port.  I read that the Mac mini 2011 is compatible with the Apple USB Superdrive.  It does this by supplying additional power over USB, like the MacBook Air.  I've tried my drive with just a single port and it powers on and can do some stuff, but suddenly it'll crap out and the OS will tell me the disk was removed without being ejected.  I've determined it's a power issue.  Does anyone know which port in particular the extra power is delivered through?  I'd test myself, but I'm afraid I may be damaging the optical drive when it craps out.
    Thanks

I'd get a good AC high powered USB Hub...

  • USB ports failing to mount an external hard drive, recognize a printer.

    Hello,
I have a Mac Mini running 10.5.8. Suddenly the usb ports do not mount external hardrives (I have 2) and also do not recognize an Hp printer. If I plug the keyboard an the mouse, they are recognize and useful. Firewire mounts one of my firewire enable drive. The other drive can be mounted through the disk option in the Airport Extreme Base Station. I can tell that the hard drives are fine. I have performed all resets mentioned in other forums. I reinstalled last major combo update but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot.
PS I forgot to tell you that I also use a powered usb hub.

Did you try things in this link?

  • USB port failed

Why would a USB port go bad? I had a hub attached to the top USB port and the port just stopped working. Is it fixable or do I need to learn to live with it. I now have a new hub with 7 ports and eveything is up working fine. I think that the last time I physically used the port is when I set up my system a few years ago when my computer was new. The has been little if any stress on the connection.

Can you explain what happened and/or why this would have happened.
    Gremlins.
Don't have a clue why it happens.

  • 2010 i5 17" MacBook Pro USB Port issue locks up iTunes when attaching iPhon

Two things - 3 USB ports, but only the center one charges my iPhone. Is this a feature or a defect? Also itunes locks up when the iPhone is connected in the only port that charges.

I had the exact same problem as Aaron Scott. I have a Core i5 15" MBP, and the 1st USB port wouldn't charge my phone, but the 2nd one did. Weird thing is my flash drive worked in the 1st one, but it was really slow compared to the 2nd one. I took my laptop to the apple store today, and one of the guys at the genius bar reset the PRAM and then the SMC (System Management Controller). Doing that fixed both my slow boot issue and fixed my USB port. You can try doing that. He did mention to try resetting the PRAM first, then resetting the SMC after that though. Here's the documentation on how to do it:

  • T520 Will Not Always Power On When Docked Without Holding Power Button For 10 Seconds

    Hello,
I am just wondering if anyone else out there is having this issue.  We recently purchased 40+ Lenovo T520's and MiniDock Series 3 Docking Stations.  The applicable Models are:
    T50 -  4240-49U
    Mini Dock - 433810U
The laptops work great and typically boot without an issue but I have had 5 laptops that I am aware of where they do not want to turn on some mornings.  The employees that have this happen are employees who typically do not take their laptop home so they never take it off the dock.  They come in use the computer and at the end of the day shut it down and never take it off the dock.
But as I stated some mornings they come in and the green computer light next to the power button on the dock will be lit up as usual and they press the power button on the dock and the laptop will not turn on.  The lights on the laptop do not blink or anything.
At this point you can keep the laptop on the dock or take the laptop off the dock and try using the power button on the laptop and it still will not turn on.  The only solution is to either take the battery off the laptop and put it back on.  Or press and hold the power button (on either the dock or the laptop) for 10 seconds and release.  Then press the power button again and the laptop will boot.
I contacted tech support and they suggested upgrading the BIOS to 1.34 because we were running 1.29.  We have since upgraded the bios and the issue is still occuring.  So I contacted tech support and they want to take the next step of sending the laptop in for service to check the docking connector on the laptop.
At this point I don't feel sending it in will help because I don't believe we could have bad connectors since these machines have only been in use for about 3 weeks.  They have only been taken on and off the dock maybe twice and the issue does not happen every day.
The only thing special about our bios setup is the following:
We have Intel AMT turned on
    BIOS is password protected
Hard drives have a boot password enabled
We have optimus detection turned on (So AMT will function with Dual Monitors)
All the docks are setup the same way.  The user keeps their laptop screen closed.  They have dual Acer 20" LCD monitors.  One monitor is plugged in the blue VGA connector and the second monitor is plugged in to the white DVI connector #2.
Anybody else having this happen to them or have any other suggestions??

If the reset doesn't work, you have to force the iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.
