I need to buy another usb, pcmcia or mini pci-e wireless card.
Can you recommend one that works well? Because I never work with wifi cards on linux.
    sorry my poor english
EDIT 21/07/09: add more information (thinkwiki):
    http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_ … Adapter_II
    EDIT 22/10/09:
Finally came the expected driver, I think it's premature but it works perfectly.
    Here the driver (r8192se_pci):
    32bits: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33927923/ … 009.tar.gz
    64bits: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34090326/ … bit.tar.gz
untar; make; make install; reboot and enjoy it
    I test it with:
    netcfg
    standar commands:
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    iwlist wlan0 scan
    iwconfig wlan0 essid MySsid
    wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
    dhcpcd wlan0
The first time I compile the module, function correctly, but after scan for available networks I haven't any results.
    Recompile and everything worked again
[b]I edit the wiki, pleased read it and help me because my English is a bit basic.
    thanks

Please note that the T500 has different hardware configurations.
Other options in wireless card (for the T500): intel 5100 - intel 5300.
This models work fine under linux

  • CD/DVD Media in T500 and T510

    Hi friends,
I need some guidance on what recordable media will work in our family's T500 and T510 laptops.  I was trying to use a CD-RW (12X, 700MB) that I use for file backups in my T500 (2242-CTO, Nov 2008).  Reading was ok, but writing was unpredictable - sometimes it didn't recognize it as a writable CD, sometimes it did but thought that the CD was full (it wasn't).  I even tried using only CD-RW that was formatted on the T500 itself - first pass of writing was ok, but when I tried to reinsert the CD-RW later to write more - same issue.
    1. Is the CD-RW I'm using incompatible as a writable media?

    Hi lead_org,
Thanks for your response.  I was unable to connect to the internet yesterday.
I use these as back-up media.  Eventually i will transfer the files to a DVD to reduce the number of disks, but for now its easiest just to add to my existing archive.
I use Memorex brand.  In the past they worked fine in the CD drive of my old IBM NetVista (A22P P4, purchased Feb 2002).  But the CD drive of it is failed, along with the bearings on my hard drive.  As I was doing an incremental backup before scrapping it I discovered the problem when I was using my T500 (on shared drive) to try to write to the CD-RW.
I put in a partially filled CD-RW and try to write to it.  But with the Lenovo T500 when I put in a partially written CD-RW I can only read from it and it thinks the CD is full.  If I format the CD in the Lenovo it will aloow me to write to it fine until I eject it and later try to add to it.  Trying to add to it later it will eventually allow it if I keep trying (i.e., open My Computer - won't write - close My Computer ... repeat).   It may take 5 or more attempts).
So my challenge is whether I now need to consider all the CD-RW's with some files on them as unrecordable for incremental backup.
    Thanks much for any advice!!
    Peace ... Ed

  • T500 and modem WWAN DELL 5530 (f3507g)

    Hi,
I want to buy this modem, but I'm afraid that will work with my T500. It is much cheaper than the original lenovo f3507g so, where is the difference?

the difference is that one is made to work in Dell machine and another is made to work in Lenovo machine. If you put the Dell's wwan card into the Thinkpad, it would throw out the 1802 error.
But there are ways around it search for zender's bios whitelist on forum.thinkpads.com, however any problem that may arise from you flashing this modified bios is not covered by warranty.

  • Bluetooth on T500 and Win7-64bits... How hard can it be??!!

    Hello,
I've read several posts about this, but none of them solved my problem.
    I have a T500 2055-RH2, with windows 7 64bits.
I just bought a bluetooth mouse online and imagine how I feel after 3 hours of useless debugging to install a mouse. Actually, my problem is more basic, I just can't seem to have bluetooth working.
I tried to install: Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II for Windows 7, Vista - ThinkPad
When I do install this, it eventually says I have no bluetooth device, so somehow my bluetooth adapter is NOT enabled. I then tried to do Fn-F5 to enable it, but it's no use, because I can only see my WIFI in there, no trace of bluetooth...
From the forum, I tried to install: ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows 7
I think it was already installed, but I installed it anyway, still no change, nothing in Fn-F5, still nothing.
I then even installed a WIDCOMM (broadcom) driver, but then again, it says it can't find any bluetooth device.
Are there any depencies I don't know about? Should I reinstall anything? What the HELL is wrong?! How hard is it supposed to be to install such a basic function as bluetooth??!
Should I throw that laptop out the window? Because I really want to... (arg!)
    Help please...!
    Thanks...

    atreid, welcome to the forum,
not wanting to be the "boo-man", are you sure your T500 has Bluetooth? It's not showing as having it on the support site when I look up your system.
    Product: ThinkPad T500 2055-RH2
    Original description: Based on 2055-CTO: T9400(2.53GHz), 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050, 256MB ATI Radeon HD3650, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn, WWAN upgradeable, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Home Basic 32
If I select another system, e.g. 20552BG, Bluetooth is listed as a component. T500 Display Parts List - Bluetooth daughter card.
Maybe you could check if the hardware should be installed? You need to enter your type and s/n on this site and see if it mentions anything about Bluetooth, let us know what you find out.
A just in case: -  Please do not post you s/n on these boards.

  • T500 and SUSE Linux

    Hi, There,
I would like to install the SUSE Linux on T500 as I had enough issues with the Windows VISTA and Windows 7 is not officially released yet. Has anybody out there recommend using the SUSE on T500. Lenovo site itself doesnt seem to offer the drivers and the thinkvantage software for Linux. So I'm I going to miss all that Thinkvantage stuff? Also without the Lenovo Vendor drivers will the system be stable and will not miss any essential features.
    Cheers,
    Max.

Not all features in thinkvantage may be available for  SuSE Linux, you can wait for windows 7 if your intention is to use a good OS.

  • T500 and Sim Card

    Hi Community,
Since last week, I got a T500 as my new company Notebook.
I noticed, that it has an internal HSPA Modem.
The first I did was to update the drivers and Lenovo Software. Now the Ericson driver Version is 4.50.6.0
As I try to establish a connection, it tells me "No Sim Card found". I tested it with my "3" UMTS Card and with a "Vodafone" Card from my colleague.
Hotline said there is no Sim Lock but no more Help from Helpdesk
Is there somebody in the community that has an idea?

  • T500 and CAD experience?

    Hi,
has anyone yet tried his T500 on professional CAD applications like Catia?
Are there any problems? How's the performance?
(I know the W500 is designed for such purposes, but I don't like the WUXGA screens which come with all the W500 in Germany)
    Greets, gris

people complaining about problems installing an office over another office are (dare i say it) stupid. it makes absolutely no sense installing one over the trial version. just uninstall the trial and you'll be fine. every single time.
as for problem with uninstalling mcafee (or any other antivirus, for that matter, just download the uninstaller from the software company e.g. http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507 for mcafee.
that said i believe you get to choose if you want mcafee and/or office when you go through the inital boot, the "on-screen instructions"
you can slow down the odd via power manager
and thanks for the tips on changing the reg to have the user profiles somewhere else!

  • T500 and 4GB 1rx8 DDR3 1333 SO compatible?

I bought a 4GB 1rx8 DDR3 1333 SO Transcend RAM for my T500. Thought it would fit but on restart the laptop just beeps. Replaced with the old 2x1GB and worked fine..

    Hi Thorsten,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue memory on ThinkPad T500.
The memory bus speed is not compatible with the system, as ThinkPad T500 will support maximum bus speed is 1067 MHz SO DIMM, hence I suggest you to replace the 4GB 1rx8 DDR3 1333 SO DIMM Transcend RAM to 4GB 1rx8 DDR3 1067 Mhz.
Please Click here to get the complete details of hardware.
    Hope this helps!

  • T500 and DIY Vidock.

    Hi Guys
I have been reading a lot about DIY vidock lately.
From what I can see people recommend buying PE4L and not PE4H.
I am the owner of a Thinkpad T500, Intel C2D T9600, Intel GMA 4500, 8gb ram, Intel 330 SSD, in addition to that I have a GTX 460 lying around and my plan is to buy a PE4L.
My question is would it be better to buy 2 express card ports and the PE4H, and would I by doing that be able to run PCIe x2 ? Or is it so that my two express card ports is one unit and max is x1 ?
Another thing is, is it worth it to buy this ? I am mainly going to play some shooters and strategy games but the integrated intel is just not strong enough, does any of you guys have experience with any thing like this ?
    Thinkpad T500 - C2D P9500 - 8GB RAM - Intel X4500 - 120 GB Intel 330 SSD,
    Thinkpad T61 - C2D T9300 - 4GB RAM - NVS 140M - 120 GB Samsung 840 SSD,
    Thinkpad T60 - T2400 - 3GB RAM - GMA950 - 60 GB Samsung 840,
    And a lot more....

    Ok Bill, finally got it.
Think both I and Scott misread you first time. It doesn't matter that the router is draft 2.0 compliant, as long as it operates on the 2.4 GHz band only we will achieve 130 Mbps at best.
The reason I opted for dLink's single band DIR-655 rather than their  dual band DIR-855 was a number of poor reviews of the 5 GHz band performance in an environment with obstacles such as concrete walls. So I guess under this condition I should be happy with the 130 Mbps connection -- it's certainly better than I ever had before.

  • T500 and Samsung SSD 840 ATA Password: ERROR 0200

    Hi,
I upgraded my T500 with a Samsung SSD 840. Works great until I set a harddisk password. My password is accepted but this I get an error message from bios:
"ERROR 0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0"
Pressing ESC clears this error and boot continues. Any idea how to fix this? Bios is already upgraded to the latest version, the ssd firmware too.

I the bios order makes no difference. I went from a working password protected Intel X25-M (120gb) that worked with password to a Samsung 840 Pro that didn't. The same setup, just different drive in my x200s before starting to experiment. I think there is an interaction in the x200/t400 generation bios and the Samsung 840 pro's firmware that requires Lenovo to fix. The Samsung will work with disk bios password in a X60s but not X61, which is consistent with the problems also in the T61's.
I've tried just about every combo of options (boot order, passphrase, setting the password on an x60) without any luck. So I've concluded that something in the Core 2 Duo systems bios is not compatible (ie Lenovo has a bios/firmware bug). From what I've read the x220's & x230's work with the Samsung 840 Pro.

  • T500 and docking

    Hi
I have a T500 that  I have connected to a docking station  (Type 2504 it says if I look under it), I also have a Samsung monitor I want to use with it, and I use the DVI port on both docking and monitor. OK this is the issue that I am having. When the laptop boots, I will not see any picture on the monitor untill after I log in, after that I will see the same as on my laptop on my monitor.
    I am running Vista BTW.
Is there any settings I can us, it looks to me that it is not "aware" of the docking until after I log in.

You can set the Boot Display in BIOS, Config > Display > Boot Display Device. You will see various options, choose the one that fits your needs best
