T500 bluescreen and re-boot

My T500 (Win7 64bit) is about 1 month old.  Last night it started re-booting - sometimes every few minutes. There was not even enough time to write an email and the next shutdown would occur.  I think it started after the last Windows automatic critical update, so I did a system restore to that but it did not help. Otherwise no changes to hardware or software were made. I am in a hotel and very desperate, is there a way to contact Lenovo in Toronto for support?

Hi merlin666, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

  • T500 BIOS disables USB booting (BUG)

I am reporting this here as a coutesey to the rest of the T500 users.
I boot from a lot of different USB media.  I have about 6 different OS/s that I regularly boot from.  I use them day-to-day for my development work.
I have been using my T500 for about 2-weeks now and I cant stand the TrackPad.  Dont get me wrong, its not the Lenovo trackpad I hate.  I hate ALL trackpads.  Its just me and the way my palm rests on the laptop.  I generally like to disable the trackpad in the BIOS of any laptop I use.
The BIOS control for disabling the Trackpad on the T500 also disables the ability to boot from a USB hard drive.  I can recreate this at will.  The BIOS version in question is 3.00 (6FET70WW), 2009-04-17.

    Hi lemmingman,
    Welcome to the Lenovo forum
Thank you for reporting this apparent BIOS bug. If anyone else can confirm they have the same trouble, could you please post:
    1) Your 7-digit machine type XXXX-YYY from label on bottom, or in BIOS Setup screen when you press F1 at boot. (Please don't post your serial number, which appears in the same locations.)
    2) Your BIOS version, from the same BIOS Setup screen.
    Thanks!

It appears as if my startup disk has been reversed and not using the fusion ssd portion as it should.  At least its now reversed as to what it used to be originally before.  the 128gb ssd used to be on top.  Is my mac booting fusion correctly?  Thank you for responding as I was about to reformat.

  • Satellite A660 - Will not boot up and HDD boot fail

    Hi,
    firstly thanks for your time.
    Model: Satellite A660 (PSAW3A-07U00R)
The problem started yesterday, the computer was going slow as an application closed, so I held the off button untill the pc turned off. When I restarded the laptop it went to a screen saying: Start windows normally or repair Windows (recomended)
When started normally it just hangs at a blank screen, the repair Windows recommends a system restore to earlier point which didnt work. As it just hangs again. I tried pressing F8 and starting in safe mode but again it just hangs. Then after a few times trying safe mode and another system restore the computer then hangs when I press F8. After this the computer goes past the Toshiba logo screen with F2 and F12 options (which both still work), and then it comes up boot failed then goes blank and comes with boot failed bootfailed with some numbers and letters, then it goes to a small box titled boot menu with 4 options. These are
    HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX
    CD/DVD MAT****ABD-CMB UJ141ES
    FDD
    LAN
If I press ESC it goes through the bootfailed loop and ends up at same screen, if I press enter on "HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX" then it quickly comes back to screen and at the bottom it says [HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX] is failed.
I dont understand why it got worse over time. Can anyone think of why this has happend and more importantly how can I get my pc working again? Note: holding 0 then starting does nothing for me atm
    regards, Matthew

All you people looking here on this dead thread.....
Toshiba A660 laptops are renowned for having hard drive fails and boot up problems after grinding to a halt.
My solution (after losing 3 hard drives [and a terabyte of family treasured times]) is the following.
Use MALWAREBYTES (free download and use for 28 days)
Scan and fix. Mine found over 300 trojans that 2013 Norton 360 could not find.
    Re-boot into safe mode.
    SCAN again.
Re-boot and empty the malwarebytes repair files it retains...
Run Norton/McAfee (whichever you have) and you should still have no issues.
    Make a back-up repair disc. Ooooops......no you cant...........at least my laptop can`t.
    I don`t know why.....
Tell me tosh..... why does windows x64 refuse to allow me to make a system boot disc (even though the laptop is all driver updated and Windows updated)?
Uninstall MalwareBytes when Norton/McAfee tells you there will be a conflict between the two programs.
It tells you to re-boot after uninstalling it.
Then when it re-boots you get a black screen. You cannot even get to bios. You think ytour laptop is turned into a brick frisbee. You pull out the battery in frustration after five minutes.
You replace and re-boot....but again you get no bios or boot up.... you think its destroyed the Bios or graphics somehow....youo can hear the hard-drive but you have no clue whats going on..
Around this time you shake the laptop in frustration.....
    Calm down.
Switch on and leave FIFTEEN MINUTES....Ten of which will be a Black nothing screen with maybe a single white underscore line in the top left corner.LEAVE IT ALONE.
Make a sunday dinner for ten people....When you go back to the computer it will be up and running.
When you re-boot again, it will be dead black for five minutes...then boots up... you still think it has a problem... LEAVE IT.
When you reboot again it should work perfect (assuming you have not been overheating it by using it on a cushion on your lap and overheating the insides [use a laptop fan tray]) if you have not shaken your hard drive or caused scrambled damage by pulling the power fifty times like some people do.
I have lost three hard drives and thousands of Gigabytes of treasured family memories discovering the secret the hard way.
    Enjoy.
Buy a different brand next time.
ALL Windows system files should be on a SWITCHED (to update) version of Windows.
Spinning drives should be for Data only.

Some will help you, and some may be just for your thinking.
    Bad PBR sig
    You know what it means?
    I don't know.
If you know, let me know please...
    @ Case 1
My Seagate ST39236LW 9.2GB HARD DISK fdisk info
Total disk size is 14342 cylinders
Cylinder size is 1251 (512 byte) blocks
Partition Status Type Start End Length %

    2 Active x86 boot 7166 7182 17 0
    3 Solaris 7183 14341 7159 50
(I use cylinder number to partition hard disk. Why?
When I use % and insert 1% to partition 2 then
    fdisk makes start cylinder 7155.
It overlays with partition 1's end cylinder number.
So fdisk save(menu no 4) fails...
because the partition 1's start cylinder number is 0 ?)
After rebooting, bizarre Bad PBR sig, and my system dies...
So I boots my PC with Windows(or Dos) booting diskette.
    A> fdisk

    4 NON-DOS 4363 0%
Solaris created extra X86 boot partition 3 and made it active.
But partition 3 could not boot...
I made partition 2 active from dos fdisk menu,
    and pc boots well.
After rebooting, my disk partition info is like this

if I've allocated remaining disk space all to Solaris(without x86 boot),

BAD PBR SIG message comes from your BIOS - no partition boot record.
Sorry but it's not clear what else is going on - might be worth running a ODS based fdisk to clear the disk before installing Solaris?

    HI daddio,
Ok some things first I need to know...Did you use Microsoft cleanup utility to clean up all those uninstalls you have done?
I hate Norton and anyone who reads my posts will know that. I have seen way too many infected PC's by Norton users. Did you try the EWIDO and AdAware scan? I see you said you read lots of posts. That is helping folks remove the malware in order to get iTunes and quicktime back to health.

Srartup disk Full can destroy your Hard Drive installation.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, or are running 10.7+, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there.
If it starts in Safe Mode, see if you can empty the trash or free up a few GB by trashing files.

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your Mac is only starting up to a blank gray or white screen after updating OS X, you can find some useful troubleshooting steps in this article:
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
I recommend going through these first three sections first:
Disconnect, test peripheral devices and network cables
    Perform a Safe Boot
    Reset the NVRAM / PRAM

I already suffered the iphone4S face time drop off issue for more than 2 week…  Hope it can be fixed soon….

I agree with @sabretooth. The connection status showing 100Mbps is only the local Ethernet network speed and since your router uses the Wireless-G technology, then you can get a maximum of 54Mbps for the wireless network speed. This network speed is significant when communicating within the local network of the router but it is still the 10Mbps internet subscription speed that is used when sending and receiving data or information through the internet.
It seems you’re experiencing a dropping connection and it would be better to isolate the issue before buying another router. Connect a computer wired directly to your Arris modem and observe the connection. If connection is good then it will give you a hint that it’s a possible router issue. You can then press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds, power cycle, reconfigure the internet connection and check if the problem persists.

    Jon....
Don't confuse the threads here with 'typical' experience.  Most of the stuff here is from brand new users, and those that have problems, and considering the 30 million pads in use, represent a very small sliver.
If you are having repeated crashes it is really pretty basic.  You either have a physical problem with your pad, or you are using too much memory.
The iOS system is supposed to monitor memory, and shut down previously used apps automatically to free up memory for what you are doing now.  That part of ios is not perfect, and if an app introduces an unexpected memory load, sometimes it gets over whelmed.
This happens, more often than not, when using safari with multiple windows open on graphic intense sites.  It can also happen with a memory intensive game, and residual apps in the background.
Double  tap the home key and take a peek at the recently used list, and shut them down completely, and often the problem goes away.
If the problem persists, you may have a software issue, and a trip to the genius bar may be in order.
