T500 Fingerprint Reader Looses fingerprints

Hi,
I've erased all the fingerprint data in the BIOS, and reset the security chip (disable/enable). That cleaned up a lot of issues. Every so often, I lose all of my fingerprints. The first clue is the BIOS doesn't ask for a fingerprint on power on, then Windows won't show the fingerprint reader.
I can then re-import the data (backed up after a clean Win7 enrollment, got tired of registering all the time), and reboot. It will work for a while, but then something (unknown) will cause it to not work again. I will get several good reboots before this happens. I'm not sure if a Windows Update causes this, or something else.
Anyone else having this issue?

Resurrected!!
I have been having this problem since I rebuilt my t500 with Windows 7 x64 about a year ago.  Every so often, the fingerprint logon will stay at "Verifying" forever so I have to login manually using the password.  Next time I lock the machine, the finger printer scanner is no longer an option.  I can re-import my fingerprint and everything is fine for a while but I can not find a reason for this or a fix.  Uninstall/re-install yields the same results.

  • T500 fingerprint reader

The fingerprint reader only works on my T500 about 50% of the time. Thinkvantage system update broke it the first (and last) time I ran system update. Based on some posts by other people I uninstalled the software and the authentec device and then did a fresh install with v3.2.0.116.
Is anyone else having this problem?

    I confirm it works !
I had the same problem, my FPR worked about 50% of times.
I open control pannel and unistalled Lenovo Fingerprint software  and AuthenTec Biometric driver.
    Restarted windows.
I downloaded the newest fingerprint software driver v.3.2.0.275 , installed and restarted system.
Now it works very fine   on winXP, SP3

  • T500: Fingerprint reader works only unreliable in Windows 7 64-bit

A few month ago I was running Windows 7 64-bit on my T500 and was using the fingerprint software version 3.3.0.50 which was working fine. When I ran system update it installed the newest version 3.3.2.27 and shortly after this the fingerprint reader began to make problems.
The problem is that when I boot the system the message "Please wait" stays there forever and I can not login using the fingerprint reader. I usually have to reboot several times before the fingerprint reader starts working again. When I login with the Windows password the fingerprint reader is not avaible in Windows.
At first this problem occured only seldomly however it becomes more frequent over time and after a few weeks the fingerprint reader becomes unuseable. Also there never was any error message and the Thinkvantage Toolbox claimes that everything is working as it should.
Because of this error I returned to Vista 32-bit where everything was working perfect. Last Thursday I installed Windows 7 64-bit again and the problem is showing up again.
Does anybody else have this problem?
Does anybody know a solution for this problem?
And does anybody know where I can get an older version the Windows 7 driver for the fingerprint reader which didn't have this problem on my system.

I bought my T500 last october and had it working fine for months with windows 7 upgrade untill there was an automatic software update.  Since then, I had 70 percent or more failures when trying to log in.  I have noticed this is worse under very dark conditions.  On top of that, it seems the installation did not completely remove the previous version and I assume this was causing a conflict.  To fix the problem, I went in program manager and unistalled the lenovo fingerprint softwares both of them and rebooted.   I was very surprised to see that there was still a fingerprint software installed (seemed to me a generic software not from lenovo).  I gave it a trial and It worked amazingly great since then...   so I am not planning to change anything to it!
    good luck

  • T500 fingerprint reader - Windows 8.1 fingerprint option missing "enable biometic framework"

    Hy,
It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.
The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver).
The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486
But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.
    I've also seen
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...
and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should..
Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.
I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away.
But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.
I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )
Could you please give me a hint?
I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday..
Have a nice day & Regards,
    Steve

Yes, but only after you enroll your fingerprints in the Fingerprint Manager, then Windows will tell you that Biometric logon is not enabled, and then you're given the option of enabling it.
However, for domain machines, this can be enabled thusly:
Goto: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Biometric Devices
    Click: Change Biometric Settings
    Click both:
Allow users to log on to Windows using their fingerprints
    and
Allow users to log on to a domain using their fingerprints
    Restart the computer.
Click: 'Switch user' at the log on screen and choose the fingerprint icon (this of course requires you to first have added a set of fingerprints to your account)
See if this doesn't do the trick.

  • T500 fingerprint reader files?

I have a Lenovo T500 with Win7 Pro and use a fingerprint reader for logon. After I installed Comodo Internet Security I was not able to logon using the fingerprint reader with default security settings, and I had to disable some functions of the security applications.  I may need to add files that the fingerprint reader uses for logon to the list of trusted applications. What are the specific application files that fingerprint reader uses?

I suspect that both applications modify the GINA in Windows, and perhaps they both cannot co-exist as they make their own modifications to that security file.
Presently with an X201 and a T500/T410 combo
I've owned everything from a 701c up to present which equal a ton of ThinkPads

  • T500 Fingerprint Reader in Windows 7 Issue

I recently installed Windows 7 x64, everything went great, except that when I log out / lock / standby the computer, and I try to log back in using the fingerprint reader, I get the following error message: "This computer is locked. Only the logged on user can unlock it".
But I am the logged on (assuming there is one, after a log out...), admin and only user.
So to log on, I just enter the system password and everything works, but back in Vista, this worked without a problem.
When I boot up or restart the computer, I get no issues, the fingerprint reader works great (in the bios and the Windows login part).
Got most drivers through Thinkvantage System Update but had to get the fingerprint drivers from the Lenovo website, released on 10/22 version 3.3.0.56 (initial and official release for Win7)
    Any solution to this?
    Thanks!
    Solved!

I've had the same issue with Win 7 x86 as well. I've not had time to clear out the fingerprint profiles yet, but I did find a work around. The fingerprint scanner should start working correctly if, when you go to unlock the machine, you click the "other credentials" button and then the "switch user" button. Just an FYI for anyone looking to unlock their machine without having to reboot it.

  • T500 Fingerprint software issue

I have an odd occurrence during login when the Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software is installed, and yes I am joined to a domain.  Versions tested to date are 5.8.2.4462 & 5.8.5.6580.  This also occurs whether a user has fingerprints registered or not.
I don't receive the [Ctrl][Alt][Del] prompt when the laptop starts up - v5.8.5.6580 does warn during a manual setup that this might happen.
Without registered fingerprints and the GINA still defaulted from Vista:
    - The login banner is displayed, where I select the [OK] button.
    - Then, 'Other User' is displayed.
-- I select that and am then provided the username/password prompt so that I can login
With registered fingerprints, and the GINA modified:
    - The login banner is displayed, where I select the [OK] button.
    - 'Please scan your finger' is dispayed
-- swiping the reader takes me directly to the desktop
-- using the option [Esc] displays 2 icons - Fingerprint Logon and Other User.
--- selecting 'Other User' provides me the username/password prompt
--- Fingerprint Logon takes me back to the original prompt 'Please scan your finger'
--- should I not select either I can swipe the reader and it will login.  However, the desktop seems to be sluggish to respond
    Machine details:
T500 with Windows Vista Ent. x64
Should I uninstall the Fingerprint Software then the [Ctrl][Alt][Del] prompt is returned, I receive my login banner, and the 'Other User' prompt no longer appears.  It is as though the GINA used by the fingerprint software is not being properly applied.  If this is by design then I guess it's yet another nuance my company will need to adapt to.
Can anyone offer any assistance to resolve so that I can utilize the fingerprint reader?

    GMAC-R60
As soon as you register your fingerprints this is enabled by default.  I still see the 'Other User' listed should I need to log on as another user and select the [Esc] option.  I would expect that using [Esc] would take me directly to the username/password prompt instead of an extended Welcome Screen where I have the 2 options - fingerprint scan and 'Other User'.
Another oddity is that I am only seeing this action displayed on my x64 machines; whereas my x86 machines are not impacted by the same behaviour.

  • T500 Fingerprint Power-on Trouble

    Hi !
I have a T500. I installed the driver of the fingerprint software. The machine found the driver. However when i wanted to select a finger to enroll, it gives an error "cannot communicate with sensor. Please confirm the sensor is ready." In settings tab it also alerts that "Get Power-on policy failed". What should i do now ?
    Thanks

I don't have that model, but the error message sounds like something is wrong with the power management drivers. Are you sure you have installed those? And have you enabled the fingerprint reader hardware in the BIOS settings?
You might also ensure that the BIOS settings are all at the default values--that's done when you choose "Load Default Settings" in the BIOS and reboot.

  • T500 fingerprint won't enroll

When I go to the fingerprint enrollment it tells me to type my windows password. I type it in and am unable to press the submit button for a few minutes. When it finally lets me press it the program freezes and says it is not responding. After another couple minutes the program unfreezes but does not let me move onto the next step and the password I had previously typed in is no longer there. If I try to retype it in the box the same thing continues to happen and I am unable to enroll my fingerprint. Any ideas?

  • T500 keyboard replacement

I recently bought a T500 after reading positive reviews and also reading that the issues with the keyboard where resloved.
When my laptop arrived, the keyboard felt awful, the left hand side around the [W] key made a lot of noise when typing and the keyboard had a lot of flex to it, I work in IT and this was one of the worst laptop keyboards I had typed on.
I got in touch with Lenovo and they sent a replacement out at no change, the new keyboard is much better.
    Picture of default keyboard
    Picture of replacement keyboard
    Comparison Picture
Sorry about the pic quality, I took them on the phone.
I am happy with the replacement keyboard and the support. It was free of charge and arrived the next morning after speaking with support staff.
The problem seems to lie with the flexibility of the keyboard and the fact there is a gap between the keyboard and the heat sink for the graphics chip, the keyboard rattled off the heatsink. The replacement sent out is much more sturdy and does not do this.
I compared the flex between the two keyboards and the one with loads of holes which came with the T500 was very flexible while the replacement sent out was much less flexible. Unlike what was described here http://lenovoblogs.com/designmatters/?p=228

All the current T500's have the bracket.  I bought mine about 5 months ago and it has the bracket.
The first pic is the earlier T500 without the bracket.
The second pic is my T500 with the bracket.
I added felt pads under the keyboard to eliminate the flex.
The felt pads totally fixed the flex problem.

  • Alternative to Client Security Solution

    Hi,

    Hi,
if you have changed the Windows password, and by startup the CSS is asking you for password, then just simply enter the new created Windows password. That should do it.
If you realy want to clear everything from CSS I would do it in following steps:
    - dissable CSS <Enhanced Security->Deactivate>
    * reboo the machine
    - start into BIOS and clear the Security chip <this will clean everything from CSS>
    - save changes and start into OS
    - go to Password manager and delet all your entries, as after clearing the Security chip it make no sence to have them, as all pwds are gone
    -  activate CSS <Enhanced Security-> Activate>
    * reboot the machine
    - start from the scratch with all the passwords etc.
Let me know, if this help

  • Rundll32.exe has stopped responding

When I install Ghost v14 on the T500, after reboot the DVD drive has a yellow exclamation mark on it with "the device is not responding properly" and an error pops up with "rundll32.exe has stopped responding", and also the power Manager icon on the task bar stops showing.
I can correct the problem with the DVD drive by removing an entry in the registry but the rundll32.exe error will never go away.
When I uninstall Ghost, all works fine, and then the error goes away, odd!
Has a anyone experienced this with Ghost and know why it causes these problems, with the DVD drive, Power Manager and the rundll.exe error?

  • Coming Soon - New Forum Ranks

When we first launched the Lenovo Community just over two years ago, our focus was to have a clean and attractive design, and an easy to understand board structure that aligned with our product line.    We understood the need for ranks as a way to distinguish relative roles within the community and to recognize the developing reputations and contributions of our members and started with a fairly simple set of ranks that most considered time spent in the forum, volume of postings, and how much reading a member did.
Over time, new features like Accepted Solutions and Kudos have been added which help the community keep up with those members who are solving the issues and concerns for fellow members, and who are being recognized via Kudos for making quality contributions to the discussion.   While the leaderboards reflect some of the top contributors in these areas, these considerations have not been reflected in the ranking system.
As there are many different ways to contribute  in the community - whether by being an active discussion participant, a proven problem solver, or  just taking the time to read, learn, and recognize others via kudos it is important that a members rank, and reputation in the community reflect this.  We need to ensure that members can grow and develop in their own unique styles and that the community is appropriately recognizing these contributions.
So, we are planning some changes - an overhaul of the existing rank structure to take more of these factors into consideration.  Why is this important?   The rank structure is an important part of the reputation engine - the ability for the community to recognize and reward members who constructively contribute in a number of ways over time, by extending new permissions, more access, and greater ability to help shape the community.
We are tentatively planning this change for February and will update the community here before the change is made.   Members will see their rank name change and in some cases may have some new permissions, but won't lose anything.  All solutions, kudos, etc will remain.   We are presently considering a computing motif for the rank names to interject a bit of fun.
We'd love to hear your thoughts...
