T500 freezes at opening Thinkpad spash screen

I have a T500 [2081-CT0] running Windows 7. Today on boot up the unit froze at the Thinkpad splash screen at the beginning of the bootup routine. I can hear the fan and feel the HDD spinning.
I have, to begin with rebooted several times, removed the battery, reseated the HDD...
A previous issue that has been intermittant is the USP not recognising an external HDD. It would always recognise on reboot but not initially as on other home and office computers. This issue began in the past two weeks.
My thought is HDD controller but I am not familiar with the T500 architecture to know its place in the world.
I have done initial searches here [and will do more] but right now i have a dead T500

**bleep**, good call.
I peeked at the three USB ports and noted that one [closest to the RJ45] not only did not have the block on it but the pins were bent. I used a small screwdriver to pull all the pins up, off ground [#4 was on the ground] and the machine booted.
I assume at some point a USB device "borrowed" the little block in the connection, but we kept plugging in the extrenal drive, sometimes seating well, other times not.
We are now up and flying.

Booting up freezes on very first ThinkPad BIOS screen - SL510

Hello
I have an SL510, which when I power on freezes on the very first screen it shows.
This is the big ThinkPad screen which reads "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" and has an Intel logo in the top right corner.
I can push the ThinkVantage button or anything else and nothing happens.
Ctrl-Alt-Del does not reboot the computer.
The only way to get away from the screen is to remove power and battery or hold the power button for 8 seconds.
I have tried removing power and removing and reinserting the memory.
As it does not even get to the loading screens there is no way to boot on a CD, USB or any other media.
I have tried every key on the keyboard.
Seems like a BIOS failure to me.
Anyone know a solution or a few steps in the right direction?

In addition to Ahbi's excellent suggestion, can you aid us with some info...?
Did you download, install, or change anything before your system started to malfunction ?
Have you tried to press and hold the ThinkVantage button before you power the machine on?
If you do it like that you should be able to catch BIOS and change some settings.
When was the last time you updated BIOS?
The next time you're able to boot, try to load Windows in safe mode with internet access and see if you can run a diagnostic with Lenovo Diagnostic tools.
(if safe mode w/Internet won't work you'll have to load the software to a USB or CD)
Try those options to see if we can get you booted, that way we can try to pinpoint a better solution.

Lenovo T500 freezes at startup when updating to newest ATI driver (Windows 7 RC x64)

Hi I have a big problem with my lenovo T500. I installed Windows 7 RC x64 to my lenovo T500 (2082-53G) and when I install the ATI catalyst beta driver x64 v9.6 from ATI's homepage, my computer freezes at startup (some activity on HD but I can't move my mouse and many processes faile to start at boot). Problem occurs only when win7 beta driver for system interface or ricoh multicard reader is installed because it worked ok until I installed those drivers. My T400 did this. I installed Win 7 with integrated, installed the ATI 9.6 suite, and never really tried the discrete for the first few days. Then when I tried it, it would instantly freeze at the Welcome screen and the loading circle would just freeze up.
I uninstalled the device and chose remove driver in device manager, and reinstalled the one from 7's original install and it still did this. Mine would just sit there and freeze up after the welcome screen when using discrete, however integrated always worked. I could only boot up in discrete with Safe Mode with Networking.
I ended up doing a system restore to right after I installed Windows, before I installed the ATI 9.6, (4 days ago, so not too bad for me) and booted straight into discrete. Windows update installed the driver for me, now it works perfectly. I am currently using the discrete card with no freeze up issues in the last day.
If you can't do that, you may have to reformat, just let windows handle the ATI driver itself (boot into discrete while installing) and it should work.
I wish I could get the higher performance drivers, but I assume they will figure this issue out and fix it soon with the next driver release.

Firefox is freezing (going to a black screen) whenever I rotate a web page from portrait to landscape view on a stock Motorola Atrix on a stable wifi connection. How do I fix this?

I'm running a stock Atrix with Android 2.3 (gingerbread). Yesterday afternoon I noticed that Firefox was taking a good 30 seconds to open whenever I tapped the Firefox icon on my phone. It's also freezing/going to a black screen anytime I rotated from portrait to landscape by rotating my phone. When this happens, the phone itself doesn't freeze (other programs still work if I hit the home key), but it takes a couple manual on-off cycles of the screen to wake Firefox up. Is there something I can do to fix this annoying problem without installing and reinstalling Firefox?

I have also found that unchecking the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option solves this issue. This option is in the Advanced section, under the General tab.

T430 Won't Boot - ThinkPad startup screen just cycles

Have been using my T430 as usual this morning, all running fine...then...battery died while using it, so went to get the charger, now have plugged in and powered back on, and it will only get to the "ThinkPad" loading screen. It won't get to Windows.

Track freezes upon opening

I have a new macbook pro and the track pad keeps freezing upon opening. after 1-2 min it comes back to life and some times after it does the whole screen goes blank for a sec and thne it is back to normal... any thoughts?

PS CS6 64bit New Install Freezes on Opening on New Win7 64bit Workstaton

Hello All,
Just installed CS6 on my new workstation and Photoshop; it freezes upon opening.
Every other program I have installed has worked flawlessly, including the rest of the CS6 Suite and Lightroom 5.
Both Windows and the Adobe Suite have all available updates already installed.
Computer is a new HP Z420 Xeon Workstation, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, 16GB Ram

I was able to get ahold of someone at Adobe who had just faced this problem with another customer a few days ago and discovered the cure mainly by accident.
On some computers, with a brand new install, the "Help Adobe Products" dialog box opens up and then the application opens on top. The application is frozen waiting for the user to click to answer the dialog box but it is hidden in the background where the user can not see it. To solve the problem, the user needs to click on the PS icon at the bottom left of the screen. This causes a drop down to appear and the user can click on the "Help Adobe Products" dialog box, bringing it to the top where it can then be answered. Once it is answered, it does not appear again so, from then on, Photoshop opens normally.
This was one of those problems I could have spent a heck of alot of hours trying to resolve. Luckily I got ahold of the right person at Adobe.

T500 freezes randomly, often by hdd working applications

My T500 freezes randomly, but i could repeat this status by using e.g. a anti-vir application or by a defragment software.
I checked the ram and the hdd, no errors.
I have installed all newest drivers vor vista 32.

I have no solution for this problem, but i have reinstalled my system and now it works great. The error doesn't exist anymore.

Is there a way to disable the ThinkPad splash screen during boot up? I checked out the BIOS settings on my T400 but to no avail.

I disabled a few things under the BIOS that I wasn't using and a few things within Windows mentioned here..

So far, it went from a 28 second bootup to about 20 seconds (I'm also using an SSD). The shutdown time is about 5.8 seconds. At this point, I'm pretty content with the progress now.

Why does Quicktime freeze when opening .movs?

For the past few months, I have experienced intermittent screen "blackouts"; essentially the screen goes black as if the computer has gone into sleep mode (while still working in a given program) but there is nothing I can do but a hard shutdown to exit this state. Recently, both Quicktime and VLC have stopped working properly; I've discovered that Quicktime will open .AVI files, but freezes when opening .mov files. VLC will open neither. Both programs work fine when working with audio files. I have updated my mac's graphic drivers (to the best of my knowledge) and have worked around various preferences (open GL video output in VLC for instance) to no avail. My only remaining theory is a corrupt .mov codec file, or a compounding issue stemming from the initial screen blackouts (which I've discovered could be an actual hardware problem with mac pros sold around 2010..), but I feel it's time to outsource for some new solutions. I'm still running Snow Leopard 10.6.8; 2.66 GHz Intel core i7; 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; MacBook Pro from 2010. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated, as I've researched for hours and have yet to find a solution or even a potential cause for these issues.

Keeps freezing and opening random apps

So, I got my iphone 5 around February, and now it keeps freezing and opening random apps. Or when I am on the keyboard, it types random things.I have tried "Reset all Settings" and "Erase all Content and settings" without backing up with cloud and NOTHING is working. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, after reading all responses, I must say first of all thank you for keeping this active. It might help more people since I am not the only one with this issue.
What have I done so far? I used the soft reset quite often since it freezes often and the only way to get something out of it is the soft reset. It then takes a little while to reset ( more than once it seems) where the white light with black apple shows up and goes black again, then the home screen, flashes a few times, goes white again..... Black.... Home screen. I noticed that if I just let it do what it does, eventually it will get back to normal..... Until next time. I have emptied the ram, deleted pictures and apps to free space and keep my email accounts low. After all of that I noticed that it still reboots by its own ( suddenly white light w/ apple) and it gets warm on the back ( must be using lots of energy) at least once every day. Even when I think, ok 1 day w/out frozen screen, the light comes on suddenly at night while charging. I also noticed that it even happend once to my iPad ( 2) after updating to 8.3 so I still think it has to do with the recent update to iPhones 5 or older. Dont know if some one has had any problems like that with iPhone 6 or plus.
just wanted to follow up from my end and I think I will just hold on to the next update that hopefully solves the issue. If more ppl have that same problem it might happen soon. So, please keep posting and make the community aware of this so a fix will come soon.. !

Hangs on loading Models Spash screen

I have Win XP Home SP2. I have not been able to use PASE version 2 or 3 because I get the application hanging after the Loading Models portion of the spash screen. I did uninstall PASE 2.0 and rebooted before installing version 3.0 I have also deleted all of the files out of Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album\3.0 I have also verified that all temporary files have been deleted and that the Adobe folder in Temp is empty.
What should I try next?

T420S Stuck at Thinkpad boot screen - Cont. loop

I was trying to fresh install Win 8.1. It has Win8 previously and was working fine.
After I plugged in the Win 8.1 boot usb, it stuck at thinkpad boot screen and cont. rebooting.
Only thing changed in BIOS is moving USB boot up higher and disabled Computrace. Earlier it was enabled.
I can still get to BIOS by F1.
Looked all the USB port. None of USB ports are damaged or pins shorting each other. I also tested the HD by putting in my other working T500. HD is fine. Restored BIOS to default as well but no luck.
Any idea?
Tried all the method including CMOS reset, but no help.

No, it does stuck in the same loop. Continuously booting and showing Thinkpad boot screen again and again.
I took the HDD out and no USB connected. same behaviour with or without HDD.
In BIOS startup is set to both - Legacy and UFEI.
Only change I had made prior to installing Win 8.1 is turn off Intel Anti theft module under security in BIOS.

Cannot open customize OAF screen after upgrade to 12.1.3

Hi,
After upgrade to 12.1.3, I am not able top open customize OAF screens from Applications.
By following some documents from MOS, I have done the following.
1)-applied patch 9879989 on Linux server.
2)-I am able to install JDeveloper,open and compile my customize programs from JDeveloper installed on Linux server. I compilation, new *.jpx files created from *.jpr
From Oracle Applications, I am getting the same error that I was getting without compiling customize program.
My question is that, how Oracle applications will read the new compiled program. Do all program need to be in specific unix directory ?
I copied all the customized program under " /u01/oracle/jdev_install_dir/jdevhome/jdev/myprojects" .
I think the problem is now to place OAF files in the problem directory, which I don't know.
Do I need to set environment variable like JDEV_USER_HOME in the environment file ?
Please help.

Not sure if your issue is resolved. Did you compile the java sources in JDeveloper and moved all files from myclasses folder to unix under $JAVA_TOP or appropriate directory and deployed the PG files using xmlimporter?
