T500 LAN failed

Hi,
I just got my new T500, but I have difficulties to connect to the internet via LAN (stated limited or no connectivity). I called Comcast to make sure nothing wrong with the IP address, and they said seems fine. I even tried to renew the IP via cmd, but failed too. But weird thing happened, sometime I restart the laptop again after IP renew failed, it will come back normal with connection.
So, any suggestion what should I do? Should I use ThinkVantage to roll back the OS, Im using XP SP3.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I just finally found the solution.
In its obviousness I barely dare to admit it, but the wrongdoer was the ethernet hub I had to use due to the fact that our LAN is still BNC based and I have no adapter card for my notebook. In my favour there is to say that at the beginning I suspected it, too, but then ruled it out, because
a) my office pc worked fine with it, when tested (although a rather short test at the beginning), and
b) I connected my notebook to my collegue's hub, who uses it for over a year (but with her pc), and still had the drop-reconnecting-problem.
Therefore I assumed a problem with my notebook. But apparently
a) our office pc's seem to be more tolerant towards connection quality than my notebook. Because when I connected both my pc and my notebook to my hub and this time worked with them the whole day, letting them downloading large amounts of data (>1GB), the pc indeed got "network cable disconnected" messages, but only twice or thrice, while the notebook repeatedly has its dropouts. And
b) my collegue's hub seems to have the same problem as mine, because today I got the opportunity to connect my notebook to two other, different hubs here at work, and voila, stable connection.
So the good news is, that probably nothing's wrong with my network card, the bad news, that I either have to get a new hub (not the easiest thing for BNC and probably not worth considering the short remaining time here) or I have to live with the annoying dropouts.
Sorry for setting you on the wrong path with the network card, but nonetheless thanks for your support.

Wifi lan failed after itunes 5 install

after 10 atempts at getting 5 installed, our entire wifi lan locked the incoming adsl line causing and engineer to be called out who said YOU MUST HAVE INSTALLED ITUNES 5 can this be it..how can apple let this go on

No looks to me as if there are still problems. If Apple can send me an email about music why the heck can't they just send me an email saying please upgrade as we have problems. Instead I sit there for hours and hours and phone calls and phone calls thinking it was my fault. How can they issue this software without really good testing, issue a Beta first. It is appalling and is a big blot on their name.

Wake-On-LAN fails to wake up iMac

I have a 2009 iMac running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and an Actiontec MI424WR Revision E router running firmware version 20.20.8. I am trying to get Wake-On-LAN to work so I can then use LogMeIn whenever I'm away. It used to work several months ago, but now it is not. I have reset the router and tried to redo things since it stopped but I haven't been able to get it to work. I'm not entirely sure of the steps that I need to complete to fix this. Are there any [i]concise[/i] instructions for getting this to work again? Also, I [i]am[/i] aboe to login to my router remotely using Telnet, so is there maybe a way I can generate a "magic packet" with the router so I can skip the deal with port forwarding if the standard method continues not to work?

Note that the doc refers to the default WOL port 9. If you are using a WOL program that uses something other than default you would need to change the settings accordingly

T500 Battery Failure and Replacement Options

The battery on my T500 recently "failed due to normal wear" and will no longer hold any charge. It had over 1000 cycles in a little under two years of use, so I guess that's not to be unexpected. The failure happened suddenly though (went from 2 hrs of normal life to no charge overnight). I tried reseting the battery through power manager to no avail, so I'm looking for a replacement now.
I'm currently looking at a couple of options and wondering if anyone has experience with any of these:

if they are an official resellers then you can claim warranty from Lenovo, otherwise you would have to get the warranty through the retailers themselves.
Non-OEM quality can vary, since there are so many of them, it is hard to give you any sort of advice as to what you would expect.
But you could try the 6 cells Boston Power Battery, they have 3 years warranty, and priced competitively. They are the only non-OEM battery i would buy.

T500 USB Ports - Hardware Breaking??

Anyone one else run into this? The rear two USB ports on my T500 have failed on me. By failed, I mean the plastic tab on the inside of the port (supporting the 4 contacts) have broken off. This computer is not abused. I used the ports frequently, but never had a case where they were stressed (dropped, sat on, etc.) One tab broke off at about 14 months and the other broke off a few months later. I had a guy at a repair shop look at them. He had never seen these broken on ANY computer in his experience. Am I cursed, or has anyone else run into this?
To top it off, the last USB port has gone fickle on me. It is randomly shutting off. A restart takes care of the problem - temporarily. I am at the point of ordering a USB expansion card as ALL my usb ports seem to have failed.
Sooo tired of fixing this computer...

It happens very often to T400/500 and R500-Series. There are a lot of threads concerning this problem in this and other forums

On startup the broadcom 5788 Lan fails to start and neither does it appear in the Device manager under windows. The Bios has been updated and the Lan switched on in the bios. I need some ideas as to how toover come/ resolve this.

I only have the LSR - but have you loaded the Broadcom drivers on the cd?

Disabling Wireless Adapter

I want to run a Powershell Startup Script to disable the Wireless adapters on some systems. I thought I'd want to get some WMI stuff

As i said, i use the virtual Ip as Server Ip....
so currenly there is only one server - Server A in this pool
and the Ip of Server is L 192.0.0.58..
and I use Virtual Ip 192.0.0.58

now is there any way to chagne the Virtual Ip of the Servcer pool ??
From edit option., it does not allow to change the virtual IP.

2012 R2 Cluster - Issues creating cluster

New Dell VRTX server with 2 server blades. Installed Server 2012 R2 on both blades and all working ok.
Ran the 'Validate Configuration' wizard and all ok apart from Storage Spaces, which we won't need as we have hardware RAID.
Then ran create cluster wizard and works ok until it goes to create and then fails:-
Adding special permissions to the computer object failed.
Trying to add 'Full-Access' permissions for security principal

I've tried this also by pre-creating the computer object (in the right OU and following guides online for setting the permissions, disabling it etc. I do not have Domain Admin rights as we are a large multi-national company. But I can create computer accounts
in my OU and I have given the administrator account that's logged into the servers the same rights on the relevant OU.
Any suggestions or ideas as to what I can do to progress with this as I've run out of ideas :(

@Lerun: For us it was permissions as well in the end. A quick fix I found to get arround it until you find the offending AD permissions is to create the new Cluster Computer Object in AD. Disable the account. Then go into security for the
Computer Object and disable inheritance, make sure you choose remove when promted. For us this must have removed the offending AD permissions as we could then create the cluster.
I've not managed to work out which permission it was yet. I guess I could test by removing each of the inheritted permissions one by one until the cluster wizard is successfull.

Create virtual switch failure

Hi all,
I'm trying to create external virtual switch on newly installed HyperV 2012 R2 server.
I'm using the same NIC with host server, and Allow management OS to share this network adapter is checked. When I click Apply i get following error after 5-10 min of delay:
Adding ports to the switch 'LAN' failed.
The operation failed with error code '-4'.
After that server becomes unavailable for network communication.
Any help on this issue will be appreciated.

No Guide or VOD - STB Not getting IP address

Have 2 DVRs connected to Actiontec via Coax. Neither box is receiving an IP address after multiple reboots of the router and STBs. TV signal is coming through fine but no Guide or VOD.
Internet is connected via Ethernet and is working fine.
Upon doing a self test on the STB's I get the following:
RF Connection
OOB S/N Ratio: 13db
Cable subscription: Successful
Network Connection
LAN: Failed
WAN: Failed
Gateway: Failed
DNS: Failed
On the router the Coax LAN is not showing any lights and status shows Disconnected.
Twp days ago tech support corrected an issue where remote DVR was not working.
Tonight called Verizon Tech support and they said they are having issues in the area, however my neighbor is working fine. They asked I call back later, however I can't seem to get through right now.
Why wouldn't the STBs be pulling a LAN IP from the router?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

that 13 db is super low, which makes me think you have a cabling issue somewhere.
you may want to unfasten the coax at both ends of the router, and at the other end being the splitter or the wall,. if that oob doesn't improve, also do it at the cable box and the wall see if you can get it to go higher. you may need a technician out. that number should be 24 ish, or in that neck of the woods, and not 13
if you or tech support haven't already done so, you will want to reboot the home router, and after it gets reconnected, then reboot your set top box (unplug it and plug it back in) and see if that number increases.

ThinInstaller failing on T500

I have ThinInstaller working in my enviroment (SCCM with UpdateRetriever), but it has stopped working for our T500 models. As far as I can see "all" the other models that I have are working just fine.. (I'v tested T60, T61 and S20 so far)
The tasksequence to copy the thininstaller sofware works fine. And as far as I can se the execution of the thininstaller also works fine, every update that the ThinInstaller finds get installed.
However on my T500 models something "breaks" and the SCCM client(?) stops sending updates to the SCCM server..
Something in the ThinInstaller installation must break the communication to my SCCM server... Anyone?

We start with the info:
OS is Win7 SP1 x32 Ent. on a T500 22434DG and 22434LG (both failing (4LG brought into me for testing purposes)). Both running newest BIOS update.
The copy task starts and i get the completed message in SCCM. The execution of the thininstaller begins on the target computer and everything gets installed. However SCCM never gets the message that the computer is starting on the installation task. The updatelog on the target computer has no obvious faults in it, and I can't find any unusual return codes. (It is 1.1MB, let me know where you want it and you can post the errors that you find). It failed with abnormal exit codes a few times (no logs), but SCCM did not catch that either.
All BIOS and MS updates has been disabled in the TVUR

One of theese breaks the communication with the SCCM server and neither the client or the server can pick up the communication again meaning that the "Continue on error" setting in SCCM won't work either...

Authentication on local SQL Server 2008 R2 Express server fails after Lan Manager authentication level changed to "Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM"

I'm upgrading my organisation's Active Directory environment and I've created a replica of our environment in a test lab.
One medium-priority application uses a SQL server express installation on the same server that the application itself sits on.
The application itself recently broke after I changed the following setting in group policy:
"Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
to
"Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM"
The main intent was to determine which applications will break if any - I was very surprised when troubleshooting this particular application to find that the issue was actually with SQL Server express itself.

All of the documentation that I have followed suggests that the errors are caused by incorrect SPN configuration- I figured that they were never correct and it has always failed over to NTLM in the test environment (I can't look at production - we couldn't
replicate the setup due to special hardware and also RAM considerations), but only NTLMv2 has issues.
So I spent some time troubleshooting this. We have a 2003 forest/domain functional level, so our service accounts can't automatically register the SPN. I delegated the write/read service principle name ACEs in Active Directory. SQL Server
confirms that it is able to register the SPN.
So next I researched more into what is needed for Kerberos to work, and it seems that Kerberos is not used when authenticating with a resource on the same computer:

In any scenario that the correct username is supplied, "Local connections use NTLM, remote connections use Kerberos". So the above errors are not Kerberos (since it is a local connection it will use NTLM). It makes sense I guess - since
it worked in the past when LM/NTLM were allowed, I don't see how changing the Lan Manager settings would affect Kerberos.
So I guess my question is:
What can I do to fix this? It looks like the SQL server is misconfigured for NTLMv2 (I really doubt it's a problem with the protocol itself...). I have reset the SQL service or the server a number of times. Also - all of my other SQL applications
in the environment work. This specific case where the application is authenticating to a local SQL installation is where I get the failure - works with LAN Manager authentication set to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated",
but not "Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM".
Note also - this behaviour is identical whether I set the Lan Manager authentication level at the domain or domain controller level in Active Directory - I did initially figure I had set up some kind of mismatch where neither would agree on the authentication
protocol to use but this isn't the case.

T500 Wake on Lan (wireless) does not work.

I set up T500 (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit) for wake on lan,
1) Enable Bios WOL
2) Enable WOL in power manegement tab of Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN property in device manager.
But WOL does not work. Sending magic packet from a PC in the same WiFi segment does not wake up sleeped T500.
Are there any setting for WOL in lenovo tools ?
Does anybody use WOL(WiFI) on T500?

Is the T500:
Associated with an access point at the time it is put into standby/sleep mode?
Connected to AC power for the whole time it is in standby/sleep mode (in otherwords the whole time it is in a low power state) when you are attempting to use WoWLAN?
If not, that may be at least part of your problem, as it is a known limitation on WoWLAN operation.
You also need to have the laptop "set up" to the master workstation, and the WLAN configured to handle braodcast wireless frame, but I am presuming you have already done that side of things.
