T500 Problem with BIOS - Win7

I have a T500 2081CTO. I took a stab this weekend putting Windows 7 on it, but I haven't gotten very far. Aside from the fact that I am only finding BETA versions of drivers for it, my biggest problem is that the latest BIOS which purportedly adds Windows 7 support does not seem to work properly - it causes my system to take 20+ minutes to post!
I was successfully able to flash the BIOS with the latest version (3.09 released on Oct 9th, 2009), but it makes my laptop unusable. When I restart/power on the laptop, the screen will just sit there dark for 20-30 minutes and then all of a sudden it will come alive, post and finally load windows.
Anyone else have this same experience? Those who have updated to Windows 7 could you respond with any tips and tricks? The 2 things I'm most concerned about are power management and the switchable graphics. Without proper drivers to keep those under control, the laptop will run hot and burn through battery in minutes.
Moderator note; subject edited for relevancy

I experienced the same thing lately, after BIOS update the computer just sat for 10+ minutes the booting. I have now come the conclusion tha it has to do with version of your ECP (Embedded Controller Program).
In my case, I read the old log file from the first BIOS update found in directory where the update were installed.
It said that I had "7VHT12WW" and updated to "7VHT14WW". It was then my troubles began.
I downloaded the latest BIOS version for my ECP version and then "downgraded" the BIOS. After this my troubles were gone.
Good luck!

Hello i have some weird problems with my mobo.  CnQ dont work i dont know why , in bios all options are turned not automaticly but forced to be "enable" ,and still my procesor multipler and voltages don't change , at the beginning after installing win7 64x it worked but now no :/.

3.Problems by bios. I updated my bios to the lastest version (from software downloaded from msi.com  probably it had name "live update 5") , of course updated by usb stick .Then after update i see that my ram looks like reserved bios showing me that i have 2gigs of ram -.- (but only on 3,4 slot x.x) after change slots (1,2) it working and see my full ram (4gigs). Is that HD0 beta version of bios ? it looks like that .I don't see my logo screen it looks like that option was cut off from the bios , i don't see any "corporation" logo while booting the system.

You do not need to disable the onboard.
As for the plug-in card, there is nothing in the BIOS to make it work 8x or 16x.
Make sure your card is seated correctly, else it will work but at lower number of lanes.
What program is telling you it's 8x?

  • Kt4v possible problem with bios 1.8 and hd

Any Idea anyone with this one.
system running well till the other day when hd went very slow even after defrag, install bios 1.8 and reset the bios and adjusting it for my setup. Come to check my harddrive with maxtor powerdiag 3.04 and could not find the drive or any other drives connected. In the bios setup the drive is present. I removed all drives, cdroms, etc except the maxtor main hd and tried again with the same result. After placing in an ata100 controller card in to a spare pci slot and plugged the hd on to it, that the software sees the drive. The test finished and show the HD to be fine.
The question is do I have a problem with the onboard contoller or with the new bios or both.
When I first got this MB I did the same test with the original bios and the hd connected to the MB controller and the software had no problem seeing that and other drive connected.

I'll stick with the V1.10, but I'd fell better if MSI showed me they actively update their systems by releasing updated BIOS files from time to time.
I can't sell a 15000$ storage system that doesn't recognise the CPUs installed. The customer would laugh and tell me to come back with a supported system.
Isn't this a VERY valid reason for wanting updates? Even if it only is an updated CPU list?
The only reason I tried this MSI board is that it was the only one available with my retailer at the time I bought it with 3 PCI-X 100Mhz slots. Maybe I should go with a Tyan Thunder next time. Tyan at least show some activity.

  • Printing Photo problems with HP8500 + Win7 (64) bit.

I'm having major headaches with not bring able to print correctly with the HP8500.  All my pictures are coming out darker then they should be.  I'm using the windows 7 drivers but no color control.
I tried to put in different drivers from other printers but the only one that installed correctly in Windows 7 is Photosmart C309n but the printing comes out the same.
I can't seem to get colors correct.  everything looks fine until it tries to print to the 8500.  I tried using 4 different photo software.
With the win7 drivers there is a color management tab but no ICC profile is associated with it.
I'm using all things HP in this system including paper/ink.
can anyone point me in the right direction.

FYI, I've been having  problems with Win7/64bit and HP8500dn.  Here's the official response I received from HP  "Please be informed that, For Windows 7 PC, the printer driver for this model is not available".

  • Kt3ultra (OEM??) Problems with bios!!

    Hi,
I found that probably I have a kt3ultra OEM, because the label on the bios says "phoenix" (award  ), but during the post the bios loaded is the ami 5.7 (the last official).
Does someone have a release of the phoenix/award bios? I'ld like to try to update the bios to this release, hoping that it is possible.
I read on a topic that a guy bought an OEM kt3ultra with bios 5.0, but I was not able to find it again.
I have also another post, where I describe what my problem is

A few days ago I did the update the BIOS of my MSI-A75MA-G55, which is 2.0 and he has presented problems. It has a processor (AMD A-8 3870K) before trouble could overclock to 4.0GHz, but now it goes from 3.6ghz: (... By increasing to over 3.6ghz pc does not start and I have to clear the CMOS for reuse ... the second problem is with the GPU hd6550D now I can not run any game at medium quality such as "far Cry 3" or "Bioshock Infinite" and before if I could .... the previous BIOS version was the V13 or 1.3 which everything worked.
The characteristics of my pc are:

    - Thermaltake CLP0575 Frio OCK
    Thank you in advance ...!
Sorry do not know much English ...!
Note: I did a BIOS flash, with the tool provided here, to downgrade the BIOS version and I could not because at the end and restart the PC had always the same version.

As the problem is only bios related from your report tell MSI about it so the issue can be fixed: >>How to contact MSI.<<

Both 1.1 and 1.2 BIOS was unable to recognise my Opteron 242 CPU steppings which indicate they are both quite old. Maybe MSI could fix these problems and include the newer CPU steppings like the ones for 250 CPUs. Bios 1.2 is dated nov. 28th 03 which is a year old. BUHU.
I am building a LARGE storage server based on this motherboard. Several others to come (planning on using the MSI K8D Master 3 -133 9161), but if MSI does not upgrade the BIOS for their high end boards I will start looking for another supplier real fast.

  • Grub2 problem with BIOS-GPT

I have just installed arch linux following this part of wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm … VM_on_LUKS (also for partitioning made with cgdisk). I havn't find any problem untill i have rebooted the machine. My pc can't find the bootloader and i need to use the live-cd to start the OS.
With live-cd grub all is ok, i can unlock cryptdevice and OS starts normally.
For the grub installation i had followed wiki and in particular these steps:
from arch-chroot I have installed grub, after that:
    grub-install --target=i386-pc --recheck --debug /dev/sda
    no error
    edited /etc/default/grub adding
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="cryptdevice=/dev/sda3:MyStorage"
    (from wiki)
    grub-mkconfig -o boot/grub/grub.cfg
    all ok
So where is the problem? What's the mistake?
P.S. according to wiki, my "fdisk -l" is:

  • Problem with BIOS upgrade

I have a UK model laptop, a Satellite C855-1HM. (The website for Tosh UK has redirected me here for support.)
This evening I was prompted by the Tosh software to upgrade BIOS from 6.60 to 6.70 using the InsydeFlash download and installer. I have used this function several times before with no problem.
This time, however, when the system restarted, the wireless adapter was not working, and looking in Device Manager I found that there was a resource conflict, though I could not see what it was conflicting with, it simply told me that the resources wanted by the wireless weren't available.  Luckily I have a 5 metre ethernet cable handy...
I managed to find the 6.60 download on Tosh website, but of course when I tried to run it it refused, saying 'The Version of ROM file is not newer than that of BIOS'.  I looked for a way round this, and tried tweaking the platform.ini, as suggested by various websites, but with no success.  I tried also reinstalling the 6.70 BIOS but it also refused to work, saying it is the same as the installed BIOS.
Eventually I thought of restarting the laptop.  I was pleased to find that the wireless adapter now works, but now there is no sound - '"No audio output device is installed", it tells me, although I can't see anything wrong in Device Manager, there must be something missing.
So basically I still need to find a way to reinstall the older BIOS.  I have managed to unzip the files and look at them.  One website I referred to suggested that there would be a date in one of the files, but I haven't located that, even with a hex editor. Is it in the F8660.FD file, and if so, in what format?
I would be very glad of any help - a.s.a.p, please. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, the Tosh comes with a program called Service Station, which I turned on when I got the laptop (9 months ago). About 4 times this year it has prompted me to upgrade the BIOS. I assumed it was important, as it seemed to be saying there were software vulnerabilities (can a BIOS get a virus?)... so I did as they said!
I thought Toshiba knew what they were doing - and the software they sent out would RELIABLE - I was wrong.
I am still trying to return to the 6.60 version, but no luck - I need some practical help, please.
I do not know of a way to revert back to an older version bios (on a laptop).  however, if it just a matter of audio, try ininstalling the audio driver and reinstalling.  You have the latest bios installed and your computer is running ok, except for this audio driver issue.  consider yourself luck as Dokie pointed out, updating a bios is serious and if interupted for whatever reason, it can render your computer permanantly inoperable.  Unless you are experiencing problems, pass on the bios update.  you can't get a virus from having an older version bios.

  • Problems with BIOS recognizing IDE drives

I recently built a new system around a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum board but have run into a problem.  Initially the BIOS would recognize only optical drives but not my two hard drives?  It did not matter where the opticals were placed, IDE Channel 1 or 2, as master or slave they would be recognized but not the hard drives no matter what configuration on Channel 1 or 2.  I used different cables some I know were functioning well in my other system but still no BIOS recognition of my hdds.  After much consternation and sweat I finally was able to get the board to recognized one of my hdd's on Channel 1 and the other on Channel two with one optical drive added to Channel 2.  However, if I attempt to install any additional hdds on channel 1 the BIOS goes back to not finding any drives?!!!   I remove one of the drives and it again recognizes my one hdd.  I have finally reached my "I can't think of anything else so what am I missing" point.  I have run into IDE configuration problems in the past but this has me totally stumped.  If the IDE in the board is bad why will it recognize optical drives but hdds only under certain circumstances?  Anyone run into this and more importantly is there any hope.  Currently my system is running with my boot drive on IDE 1 and one of my extra hdds on IDE 2 with one of my optical drives so I'm up and running but terribly limited.  Thanks in advance for any assistance you might provide.

Thanks for getting back to me.  I'm at work but as much as I can explain at this point, my system configuration is as follows:
MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum mobo
    AMD Athlon 64 3200 socket 939
    X Connect 500W PS
Primary Boot IDE drive: Maxtor 120gb Now conntected to IDE Channel 1
Secondary HDD: Maxtor 160gb drive connected to IDE Channel 2
Optical Drive:  Sony 710A Dual Layer DVD drive
My plan was to install my boot hdd and a data hdd on Channel 1 and two optical drives on Channel 2 set up with the boot as master and the data drive as slave and the opticals also set up as master slave.
During my initial boot the BIOS recognized the two optical drives but neither of the hdds.
I tried various combinations including boot hdd-optical on Channel 1/data-optical on Channel 2 and in every case the MB recognized the optical drives but not the hdds.  They were appropriately set to master slave so that should not have been an issue.
I'm not certain what finally made the difference, at one point I disconnected the floppy and the bios finally recognized one of the hdds.  I reconnected the floppy and the hdd was still recognized.  Fine so far.  I installed everything and I was right back to opticals being recognized but not hdds.  Removed the data hdd and the boot drive was recognized and the two opticals.  Finally I installed everything in the order mentioned above and I have a working system.  The problem now is if I try to install another hdd on IDE channel 1 no hdd drives are recognized.  Oh, and I have tried various IDE cables some of which I know are good and the same problem comes up.  This is the most perplexing problem I have ever run into!

I tried to upgrade BIOS but it didn't gave me any solution. Resetting battery's gauge neither.

After more than a year I'm back, finally I've found a solution!
Some history: I've bought new replacement battery, but problem was still on. I've upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 and then to Windows 8.1 After some mouths I've replaced battery on guarantee, I thought it was the problem, but I was wrong. Yesterday I decided to do something with strange noise coming from inside of my computer (pitchy noise, something like electronic circuit, I heard that since I bought my computer- 5 years). I changed in BIOS almost all Power settings to "Disabled":
    Intel(R) SpeedStep Technologyisabled
    Adaptive Thermal Management:
    Scheme for AC: Balanced
    Scheme for Battery: Balanced
    CPU Power Management: Disable
    PCI Bus Power Management: Disable
    PCI Express Power Managment: Disable
    (screenshot below)
Also I've changed "minimal CPU load on battery" in system's power settings from (5% to 100%).
Woah, everything works awesome now! And no strange, loud noise from my computer anymore!
On 7800mAh battery I get around 220 minutes on battery with brightness set to 100%.

  • NB305-442BL - Problem with BIOS

    Hello Friends
What happens is that while the mother is presenting machine blue screen shot, and since this started since I did a BIOS update, the question is to update the BIOS for NB305 netbook, but it seems I'm wrong on the model already I noticed that the machine was a 442BL, may be able to place the correct BIOS for the machine to me no problem, or there will be some form of downgrading the BIOS of the machine to which I had before I give the problems, Greetings

    Hi
First of all the NB305-442BL is not known to me I googled for this model number and could not find a model containing this series number. What NB305-xxx do you have exactly?
Secondly I think the BIOS is not the problem here. Usually it should not be possible to upgrade the BIOS if you would use not compatible BIOS version.
Usually you should get an message saying the BIOS is not compatible during the update procedure and the update procedure should be cancel automatically.
In your case I recommend settings the BIOS to default settings. Access the BIOS pressing F2 to get BIOS settings. Here press F9 to get default settings and then save the changes F10 before leaving the BIOS.
Furthermore the BSOD can be caused by software problems. Maybe the system is muddled up did you try an fresh OS installation to ensure that the BSOD isnt caused by system fault? Would be worth a check.
