[T500] Problem with SANYO 7800mAh battery

I've just bought new battery for my notebook.
On the battery's label I can find out that it's 7800mAh and voltage is 10.8V. It should be 9-cell.
http://i.imgur.com/td2a2aG.jpg
But the problem is that my notebook with this battery can work only for about 1h40m on maxium performance powerplan or just about 3h on maximum battery's life.
Attachment below shows Power Manager window. It says the battery is 71.28Wh ( 71.28Wh*1000/10.8V = 6600mAh!).

Computer's configuration is:
C2D P8700 @ 2.53GHz
1x SSD + 1xHDD UltraBay
ATI M3650HD
6GB RAM
WSXGA+ 1680x1050
Windows 7 SP1 with no "powerhungry" CPU processes (idle CPU's overload on both cores about 0-2%).
My older battery which I used to use for 3 years with ~40Wh full charge capacity can power notebook exactly for the same time.
I tried to upgrade BIOS but it didn't gave me any solution. Resetting battery's gauge neither.
Does anyone know what is wrong with it? How long does your computer can work on the 6600mAh batteries?
Thanks for replies.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

After more than a year I'm back, finally I've found a solution!
Some history: I've bought new replacement battery, but problem was still on. I've upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 and then to Windows 8.1 After some mouths I've replaced battery on guarantee, I thought it was the problem, but I was wrong. Yesterday I decided to do something with strange noise coming from inside of my computer (pitchy noise, something like electronic circuit, I heard that since I bought my computer- 5 years). I changed in BIOS almost all Power settings to "Disabled":
Intel(R) SpeedStep Technologyisabled
Adaptive Thermal Management:
Scheme for AC: Balanced
Scheme for Battery: Balanced
CPU Power Management: Disable
PCI Bus Power Management: Disable
PCI Express Power Managment: Disable
(screenshot below)
Also I've changed "minimal CPU load on battery" in system's power settings from (5% to 100%).
Woah, everything works awesome now! And no strange, loud noise from my computer anymore!
On 7800mAh battery I get around 220 minutes on battery with brightness set to 100%.

  • Communication Problem with the second battery

    Hello,
In Lenovo Solution Center it says that there is communiction problem with the second battery. I already had this problem some months ago, back then it didn't charge the second battery. I got a new one and it worked again. Now it says the same thing "communication problem", but i can charge the battery and I also can't find any other sign of something not working. But still- it seems weird that the program tells me something is wrong. Can somebody help me?
    Thanks Lina

    Hi, Lina
What is the machine type and model of your computer? Also, what operating system are you running?

Do Not post stuff about how Airplay doesnt work, because i dont have Apple TV and dont need to hear about it.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.

  • Help request - T500 started with no BIOs battery or HDD. Now installed, but laptop won't boot fully.

The laptop now won't boot to windows...
Sequence of events - investigating issue inside laptop, (CMOS battery creating strong bad smell).  The CMOS battery, HDD, and palm rest were all not installed.
The laptop was turned on in this state.
Some error or message screens came up.
As I tried to fix, I first realized and replaced the CMOS battery, then later the HDD, and later the palm rest.
At some point, with the CMOS battery in or out, and HDD either in or out, the laptop said it needed a correct system date.  I went into BIOS and just selected 3/27/2015, and left the time with whatever it was showing.
This resulted in allowing the boot to progress to the screen stating that it could not start up, and asking to run in safe mode, safe mode with networking, last good configuration, or normally.
I tried safe mode, last known good, and normally.  All of them resulted in the windows logo and loading bar (XP), and then it showed an error screen for a fraction of a second... and looped back to the boot sequence leading back to asking whether to try safe mode, safe with network, last known good, normal.
Then, later I installed the palmrest, in case that was related.
Still, the boot efforts all resulted in the same thing... an extremely briefly-displayed error page (too brief to read anything), and then instantly booting back to the safemode/last known, normal, etc option screen.
I canged the graphics to the integrated graphics, just to try... no change in result.
What is needed to allowing it to boot fully and normally?
Thank you very much for any help

...means that Windows can't grok the boot device.  Things to try:
    1.  When the PC is booting, press F8 to get a boot menu for Windows.  Do you have a "last known good config" option?  Try it.
    2.  Do you have a Windows retail disk, or a friend who has one?  Boot on it and do a repair.
    3.  Open the BIOS.  Can you find a setting for hard drive controller mode, IDE or AHCI?  What does it say?  Try switching to the other mode.
<<Any benefit of trying to reformat the HDD and reinstal an OS from scratch?>>
Yes, of course.  It will fix the problem, as long as you're sure that the hardware is sound.  But that's not guaranteed.  Hot plugging a drive to a booting computer is not good practice--you have the potential for ground faults, corruption of the MBR, or whatever.

  • When is apple going to solve the problems with the 4S battery???

I bought a new iPhone 4S last week and I have some many problems with the battery the first day, but I thought it must be something normal because of the first time but the few next days it was the same. On Thursday morning I received the iOS 5.0.1 update and I thought it was going to solve the problem but it wasn't!! So I called Apple and they told me I should restore my phone and after that it was supossed to work properly, but it didn't so they told me I should go to an Aple Store and they would change my phone but... it's supossed that all 4S have the same problem so... I would have a new iPhone one week later but with the same problem?? If Apple solve the problem in days, weeks or even months are they going to give us the new (working-properly) phone instead our old one??
    Thank you very much!!

  • Ipad 2 with IOS 6 problems with apps and battery

Ok, I had updated my iPad the day of or day after the IOS 6 came out and at first I had no problems with it. Except now, for some reason I am starting to have problems with different apps and with the battery life.  First off within 15 minutes, it went down to almost 90% charge with it being a full charge and me hardly using any apps and closing the ones I wasn't using (which was just safari and Facebook open). But the problem I have been having is that I cannot chat with my friends on the Facebook app now because it will show its loading the chat box and then freeze up.  With pages and numbers, they seem to take longer than usual to load up which is around 10 seconds or so before I can do anything.  I had uninstalled and reinstalled the apps with no effect and tried restarting my iPad. It also seems like my iPad is taking longer to shut down and turn on than usual even though i make sure all the apps are closed before turning it off.  (the location services, bluetooth, notifications, FaceTime, messages, and limit ad tracking is all turned off to help with battery life and i don't use them.)Is there any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Having problems with brand new battery installed...Help please!

Here's my problem. I just recently replaced the battery on my 13" Macbook. The brand new battery ordered from Apple arrived on Saturday and up until last night everything was great. Now all of a sudden the computer is doing the same things it did with the old battery. I am getting the green light on the MagSafe Adapter even though the battery is not fully charged. I am also alternating between "Not Charging" on the battery icon and a "X" on the icon.
I did some reading and tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. I even uninstalled Leopard and reinstalled Tiger (updating everything afterwards), thinking maybe it was a software issue. (I just recently installed Leopard and hoped it was just a bad install.) None of that really seems to work.
There is one slight exception- the SMC reset. After I do the SMC reset I get the amber light from the adapter, the icon shows charging and all is well for about 15 to 30 minutes. Then I am back at square one.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas on what could be going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It seems like you have eliminated all the easy fixes for your problem - what is left is the computer itself. Call Apple (800-275-2273) and explain the troubleshooting you have already done. They should set up a repair for your computer. If it is out of warranty you may have to pay for the repair.
    Best of luck.

  • Problems with your iphone4 battery life? READ HERE!!!!

I will make this short and simple as I too have been experiencing battery problems with my iphone4 since I upgraded to 4.0.1
Now here is what I THINK is going on, I believe there is a BUG in the wifi software in IOS that tends to drain the battery at a rate of 5% every 10 to 15 minutes or so if you are using the phone for surfing. And if you are not doing any internet surfing at all, it still drops the battery at a similar rate.
Sadly what I have found out is that this doesn't stop even when the phone is on standby. Two hours of my phone just sitting there, I lose about 5% plus. So if I leave wifi on and go to bed, my phone will lose close to 25% of battery over night. However once wifi is OFF, the phone will only lose about 2 to 3% over night. I'll say that's a HUGE difference.
What I also have noticed is that it doesn't matter if I have notifications & push ON or OFF, the battery still gets drained at the same rate as long as wifi is ON.
Once I have realized the culprit, I went from getting a mere 4 to 5 hours of usage to 8 to 9 hours.
So, I suggest that you all only turn wifi on when you NEED it. Once you no longer need it, just shut it off. This is what we have to do until apple fix this problem because it seems like having wifi ON is constantly working the wifi antenna even when the user is not using the wifi connection at all. Apple claims a whopping "up to 10 hours" of internet surfing over wifi. How can that be when my phone will lose over 30% of battery in 10 hours just on standby with wifi ON?
By the way, all my tests were done with my phone on EDGE only.
If you have done this and it worked for you, drop a line here

Note that the battery drain can be of many features you are using in idle or in use. Whether you notice it or not, it'll drain every 10 to 15 minutes on idle based on the several features enabled:
    * Push Notifications with 10, 15, 20 apps that run it
    * WiFi, cellular, 3G
    * Bluetooth active or idle
    * Mail set to Push or Fetch by Minutes
    * Applications left to run in the background
Nearly every iOS4 app will add the Fast App Switch, File Transfer Services, and Background Location. If you are not using any of these apps, it's recommended to close them down. Whether it's iOS3 or iOS4 apps, they will slowly drain the power through the RAM processor.
If you run a system info application, it'll state how much RAM you are currently occupying with all your multitask apps running. The more RAM used, the more battery power is drained. You can increase battery life by doing the following:
    * Settings-Push Notifications-Turn off any application's push that doesn't work anyways or is bothersome to receive. Setting Notifications to OFF in general will repeat a consistent popup to enable it again.
    * Settings-Mail-Push-OFF, Fetch-Hourly, Advanced-Schedule to Fetch
    * Close all running applications not in use that sends notifications later. They are running in the background draining resources.
    * Follow Apple's guidelines on improving battery life such as setting brightness to mid range and automatic or turning off unused features.

  • T500 Problem with BIOS - Win7

I have a T500 2081CTO. I took a stab this weekend putting Windows 7 on it, but I haven't gotten very far. Aside from the fact that I am only finding BETA versions of drivers for it, my biggest problem is that the latest BIOS which purportedly adds Windows 7 support does not seem to work properly - it causes my system to take 20+ minutes to post!
I was successfully able to flash the BIOS with the latest version (3.09 released on Oct 9th, 2009), but it makes my laptop unusable. When I restart/power on the laptop, the screen will just sit there dark for 20-30 minutes and then all of a sudden it will come alive, post and finally load windows.
Anyone else have this same experience? Those who have updated to Windows 7 could you respond with any tips and tricks? The 2 things I'm most concerned about are power management and the switchable graphics. Without proper drivers to keep those under control, the laptop will run hot and burn through battery in minutes.
Moderator note; subject edited for relevancy

I experienced the same thing lately, after BIOS update the computer just sat for 10+ minutes the booting. I have now come the conclusion tha it has to do with version of your ECP (Embedded Controller Program).
In my case, I read the old log file from the first BIOS update found in directory where the update were installed.
It said that I had "7VHT12WW" and updated to "7VHT14WW". It was then my troubles began.
I downloaded the latest BIOS version for my ECP version and then "downgraded" the BIOS. After this my troubles were gone.
    Good luck!

    Hi,
How can I Test my iPad WiFi & battery? is there a hardware test?
    A real easy test...
Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • 2.1 Upgrade problems with Contacts & Calendar & Battery Life

I upgraded a couple of days ago and wish I hadn't. After the upgrade my Contacts were no longer there, my calendar hadn't synced and the battery life is worse than before. I tried the gently approach initially by resetting my iPhone but after that didn'r improve anything I used iTunes to restore my phone. It did work to some extent and the contacts reappeared briefly but if I tried to use Contacts the phone froze and then kicked mr out to the main screen.
Don't get me wrong, I think the iPhone 3G is great and suits my requirements very well and the previous version of the firmware didn't cause me any issues appart from some of the free apps started to misbehave just before the upgrade. I'll take back that bad behavious if I could get the contacts & calendar th function as they did.
Has anybody else had the same problems and found any solutions?

The 2.1 update hasn't been very successful for me either...
The battery life has reduced significantly. Since the 2.1 update, my battery is dead before I get home from work!!! Pretty shocking really....which means it lasts about 8-9hrs. Majority of that is on stand-by.
Plus every app takes an absolute age to load and it takes an age to return the home screen when exiting apps.
If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears....
Is your 3G on all the time? You might want to check that, cuz 3G does eat a lot of battery. Do you have wi-fi on? Usually wi-fi does drain less then 3G when it's connected to one network but if you are walking around, and the wi-fi doesn't connect, it will search for another network and it can cause to eat up battery while searching. So if you aren't going to use wi-fi, just turn that off. Same with 3G. if you don't use 3G then turn it off, and turn it back on when you use it. Usually 3G is faster data, so faster internet than Edge.
How often do you fetch? Push?
If you have almost everything ON, that could be the reason why your battery dies quickly.
Maybe try testing it with everything off like 3G, wi-fi, push, and see if that helps.
If none of this work, then have you considered rebooting your phone (pushing home and sleep/wake at the same time for more than 6 seconds until the apple logo screen appears)? Have you tried restoring your iphone from itunes?
If this still doesn't work, or your not satisfied, I'd suggest going to the Apple store and have the genius take a look at.

can you help me solve this problem? is this a battery or computer problem?

I have had the very same issue. If I start my G530 up and the battery is installed, it won't start. If I remove the battery and start the laptop using AC power, it starts fine and I can then reinsert the battery and all continues well. In addition, I can shutdown the laptop (with the AC power remaining plugged in and the battery inserted) and it will start up just fine. It's the INITIAL start that requires the battery first be removed. As is obvious, the laptop can't be started up using only the battery (no AC power). The laptop didn't behave this way originally but does so now.
