T500 Trackpoint stick on middle click

Hello, Im having problems with the trackpoint on my T500 Thinkpad, thats possiby only 3 weeks old. Everything was fine for a while, but then one day, everytime I tried to use the trackpoint the cursor switches to the middle click icon and refuses to move, unless I use the USB mouse plugged in or use the track pad. I can move the cursor with the trackpoint if I hold the middle button down, but other than that the trackpoint is useless
Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers
Ive done the above and included the ultranav utility for good measure
Nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

morning ...
Yeah I have updated my driver to 16.1.1.0 however the middle button still works as per. Please try reinstalling the drivers and see if it helps.

Hello. Using a W530 with Windows 8 and ThinkPad UltraNav driver version 16.2.5.0. Tried uninstalling --> reboot -> reinstall -> reboot. Middle button only does scrolling. In UltraNav (TrackPoint) settings, only option is to adjust stick sensitivity and to enable Press-To-Click. Please advise on how to enable middle button click.

  • Synaptics unreliable trackpoint middle click bug

I found a software bug for synaptics driver.  I am using the latest: 18.0.7.40, 5/26/2014, windows 8.1.
The bug is related to unreliable middle clicking (not to be confused with TpScroll ), when the user middle clicks on the trackpoint, the OS doesn't register it.  It is possible this is a settings issue, maybe it's a "feature".  If so, can someone provide instructions on how to change it.
It seems the synaptics firmware will only pass a middle click to OS if the pointer moves at the same time.  I have not tried this on Linux.
To reproduce errant behavior I (this will NOT register a middle click)
    1. make sure middle clicks are enabled in the mouse properties and TpScroll is off
    2. make sure you have an application that works with middle click or displays L/M/R click state received by the OS (I am using X-Mouse button control)
    3. with finger clear of trackpoint, middle click with thumb
    4. OS will NOT register a middle click.
correct behavior should be register a middle click
To reproduce errant behavior II (this will register a middle click)
    1. make sure middle clicks are enabled in the mouse properties and TpScroll is off
    2. make sure you have an application that works with middle click or displays L/M/R click state received by the OS
    3. with index finger on trackpoint, move trackpoint so pointer moves slowly (speed not important), and the middle click with thumb
    4. OS WILL register middle click.
correct behavior should be register a middle click
To reproduce errant behavior III (this will cause a continuous middle click, until cursor is moved again)
    1. make sure middle clicks are enabled in the mouse properties and TpScroll is off
    2. make sure you have an application that works with middle click or displays L/M/R click state received by the OS
    3. with index finger on trackpoint, move trackpoint so pointer moves slowly (speed not important), and the middle click with thumb and hold down, lift index finger off trackpoint to stop moving cursor, and let go of button.  (Pressing and releasing the middle button has no further effect.)
    4. OS WILL register a continuous middle click, never receiving that middle click input changes.
correct behavior should be middle click is released as soon as the physical button has been let go.
Also mouse chords (for example left click and right click at the same time) do not work.

    Hello,
I just fixed a similar problem. Like you, I found that my middle button no longer functioned like I was used to when I updated my system.
If you go into the synaptics settings, under UltraNav>Track Point, make sure you select "Neither" in the box labeled "Choose Scrolling or Magnifying Glass Function."
I hope that works for you.

  • [xf86-input-evdev-trackpoint] Still no middle mouse scroll on T440p

    Hi all,
This post is related to the launchpad bug "Middle button does not work for scrolling" and to the AUR package "xf86-input-evdev-trackpoint".
Abstract: The synaptics driver is currently not able to emulate scrollling using the middle mouse button on newer ThinkPads (**40 series). This AUR package aims at resolving this issue, but I'm having trouble to make it work.
So I installed the package and rebooted. The new file "90-evdev-trackpoint.conf" appeared in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d folder and the installation went fine. However:
My left and middle mouse buttons are not recognized afterwars, only my right mouse button works
I still have no middle mouse button scrolling feature
    Maybe worth mentioning:
I do not use the testing repo
    KDE desktop
    System is up-to-date
The 90-.... Xorg conf file is the highest conf file number (so the settings should not be overridden)
Anyway, thanks for the effort to get that touchpad going, and thank you for your help!
    Regards,
    Laurent

    Hi,
I played around with the config files, and have some results by now. Note that I use the touchpad too, which causes some more problems.
So the source of the problem was apparently my 50-synaptics.conf, in which the Touchpad sections used the "synaptics" driver. There were 2 occurrences, if I change both, it works!
    However:
synaptics provides MUCH better usability than evdev, if you do not configure everything by now. Especially important was the hysteresis, which made normal touchpad clicks usable again.
tap-clicks are triggered too sensibly (with too little pressure on the touchpad). I think this is evdev related and only a setting, but I couln't fine one. Have you got an idea?
As I use the SoftButtonAreas and AreaTopEdge settings, the top border of my touchpad should emulate the three "classic" ThinkPad buttons, and the mouse pointer should not move. This worked fine with synaptic. Now that the driver is evdev, only the middle and right area react to those classic clicks, but the left mouse button area is dead. I have absolutely no idea how to get it back without having mouse pointer movements in those areas. Any suggestions?
Middle click events are not always delivered reliably
Btw: tap-to-click and normal click generally work fine in the areas below AreaTopEdge.
So, have you got an idea how to get the "dead" area working again?
And, why did you use evdev, and not synaptics? I assume you have to make evdev work before synaptics can work, no?
Furthermore: why did you disable your touchpad?
    At last, my config files:
    50-synaptics.conf
    # Example xorg.conf.d snippet that assigns the touchpad driver
    # to all touchpads. See xorg.conf.d(5) for more information on
    # InputClass.
    # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE, your distribution will likely overwrite

  • Twist How to enable Scrolling and Middle Click (open in new tab)

I'm trying to find out if there is a way I can enable the ability to both scroll and middle click on the Twist. On my T420 I have "scrolling smooth" enabled under trackpoint properties (this setting doesn't exist on the Twist). When this is enabled a quick click of the middle button will open a link in a new tab, but pressing the middle button and moving the trackpoint allows me to scroll as expected. On the Twist, pressing the middle button only seems to bring up the scrolling prompt, and there seems to be no way to click.

    Hi,
I was recently having issues with my middle click button on my T500 but I was able to get that working.  However, now whenever I middle click (Scroll, open new tabs, etc.) I cannot use my touch pad for about a second.  It freezes.  Now I know this sounds like a ridiculous complaint but it is very annoying.

  • FIXED! Middle Click Functionality Disabled on Windows 10 upgrade . . . FIXED!!!!!!!

On upgrading my ThinkPad Edge E545 to windows 10, I lost the ability to middle click. ....The new UltraNav had got rid of trackpoint options box that allowed me to select "neither" and only allowed me to change the senstivity of the scrolling.....Diabling trackpoint meant that I lost the ability to use the buttons at all!! Cray Cray!  I was losing it trying to fix it....reinstalling, rebooting, trying old drivers....nothing worked.....then finally I found this post about the same problem in windows 8... In my case, with windows 10 I just searched for 'trackpointmode" in regedit......that ended up being here HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1557542073-2641846280-496700362-1003\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\UltraNavPS2Then...
Change "TrackPointMode" to dword:00002214 from the previous value of 00001214

  • T540p and Middle-Click not working

So, I just got my T540p 2 days ago, and while getting everything set up, I realize that a few things are off with the clickpad.  For a while, most clicks were not being registered: left, right, or middle.  It could take some furious clicking just to get one click registered.  Next, no matter what settings I set, I could not get middle click to register as a middle-click - they were always taken as left clicks.  And finally, I could not get right-click to register unless I set button size to either Large or Full.  At standard, right-clicks were seen as left-clicks.
Here's the rub - I think I've narrowed it down to the driver.  After submitting a warranty request yesterday, I started playing with it some more, and here is what I've found:
After a few full shutdowns and reboots, responses got better:  Clicks were more reliably registered, and right-clicks worked, even on Standard button size in the settings.  However, middle-clicks were still impossible.  Any attempt at a middle-click was registered as a left-click.  This was with the Lenovo driver installed.
After uninstalling the Lenovo driver, middle clicks started working.  Unfortunately, mouse speed is painfully slow without the Lenovo driver installed, so this is not much of an option.  I tried downloading a driver directly from Synaptics, and that did not seem to help the mouse speed - this driver doesn't seem to add the UltraNav tab to the mouse settings which allows me to increase the speed of the TrackPoint.  However the Synaptics driver (which claims to be older than the Lenovo driver) did allow middle-clicks.
Next, I re-installed the Lenovo driver and after the first reboot clicks were back to being unreliable and middle-clicks vanished again.  After a 2nd reboot, left and right- clicks became better, but still no middle clicks.
So, I've determined that it's not a hardware issue anymore, but a driver issue.  I now have a box on the way to ship my laptop back - but since it's not a hardware problem, I don't see the need to send the laptop back.
Does anyone have any insight on what I should do?  Send it back and let Lenovo attempt to change settings/etc. to get my middle-click working?  Or patiently wait for a driver update that may or may not fix the middle-click?
I will say that I am very impressed at the speed of getting the 'warranty fix' box, so THANK YOU to Lenovo for an amazing response there.  I'm just getting frustrated with the clickpad issues.

I have the exact same question, prior to UltraNav driver installation, you can simply Tap-to-click while using the Trackpoint. After installing the driver, you MUST click down on the Clickpad to send a click while using the Trackpoint. This is such a simple software solution that has seriously made me regret my decision to by a newer Thinkpad. The new xx50 series Clickpad is interchangeable with the xx40 series but I am not spending nearly 70$ to solve a simple software problem!
I recall that back in the days of the X200/X201 there were a decent amount of tips/tricks we could do via the registry to enable "hidden" features of the Synaptics touchpad/trackpoint combo. Is there a similar "hack" we could do to enable the tap-to-click functionality while using the Trackpoint?

  • In firefox 3, when I middle clicked a link, it would open in a new tab for me to view later, but it wouldn't go directly to the tab; in firefox 4, it does. How do I get it to work like before?

E.g. if I was on google and middle clicked a search result, I would still be looking at google, but the page I opened would be loaded to the right side.

Google search and other websites have a user preference that can be set to open a search result in a new tab or a new window, for users who are logged in to their website.
Otherwise, when you don't have a 3-button mouse or a scroll pad with "middle-click" functionality, you can use '''{Ctrl + Click}''' to open a hyperlink in a new Tab.

  • Troubleshooting middle click quirks

    Hello All
New to the world of lenovo.   I am trying to troubleshoot an issue where the middle mouse button randomly works and am trying to figure out if it is hardware or software related.
    Some info
    Hardware: Lenovo x230
    OS: Ubuntu 12.04.2 (64bit)
    Kernel: 3.5.0-23-generic #35~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 25 17:13:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Desktop environment: Cinnamon 1.6.7 (also tested with Unity)
    What happens:
In terminal if I middle click I would expect it to paste, some times it could take two or more clicks
In firefox if I middle click on a link I would expect it to open in a new tab, some times it can take two or more clicks to work, frequently it will stop working after the first successful middle click
scrolling in firefox/terminal/any window with middle click and the pointer works consistently.   I also have a logitech m570 wireless mouse which behaves as expected.
Has anyone experienced similar and know how to resolve.  While I have it in the back of my mind that it's a hardware issue it does  not make sense as the pointer+click consistently works so I assume it's software

[BUG FIXED, see "EDIT 2" at the end of my post]
I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.
    I hope this helps!
EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:
    https://github.com/greasemonkey/greasemonkey/issues/1406
EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. It hasn't been reviewed by Mozilla yet, so it won't be an automatic update for another day or two. All credit to "cannonfodder" below for noticing this; please mark his post as helpful!

  • How do I middle click and close tabs in safari? please help!

I am used to google chrome and  adapted to use middle clicks to interact with tabs. My friend introduced me to safari and as i am using macbook pro I think using safari should be more compatible. The only thing that is holding me back is closing tabs with middle click on mouse. I would really appreciate if someone would point me to easy solution for that.
    Thanks,

  • How do I get my hotmail to open in a new tab instead of a new window and I've tried the middle click/ctlr option.

MSN is my home page and when I click on the hotmail link in the top left hand corner of the page it always opens in a new window even if I press middle-click/ ctrl keys. The hotmail link is the only link that I have had this problem with thus far. Can you help me correct this problem?

Hotmail opens in a new window because the code or set of instructions on the MSN website tells Firefox to open Hotmail in a new window. I would suggest you right click on the Hotmail button and left click on "Open Link in New Tab". This will open a new tab in the current window.

  • How do I change Middle Click to normal Middle Click instead of the Scroll on the Helix

    Hi,
I just bought the Lenovo Helix with Windows 8.1 and I've been trying to disable this auto-scroll or touch-scroll function that comes on by default on UltraNav.
On my old X220 with Windows 7, I can just go to Mouse-> UltraNav -> Settings -> Neither on Scroll / Magnify Features.
It seems like there's no way to turn it off for the Helix. From this discussion,
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Carbon-X1-Use-middle-scroll-button-as-middle-c...
It sounds this option isn't available yet on Windows 8.
I've tried older driver: No option to disable this feature.
I've tried Synaptic driver: I can use middle click but the touchpad is ultra sensitive and I can't adjust it.
Has anyone found a solution for this? I use the middle click a lot for openning new windows and pasting on linux screens. It makes the computer usable unless I have a mouse.

On Windows 8, using the UltraNav software/driver from Lenovo, middle click always means "Scroll".  There is no way to change this.  Maybe you can find some driver directly from Synaptics (and not from Lenovo) that lets you configure the middle mouse button as something other than "Scroll", but this definitely cannot be done with the Lenovo software.  I'm sorry I can't help you further.
