T500 Unattended Wake from Standby - Windows Image Acquisition Service entered running state

I haven't been able to figure out what is waking up my computer while I am away..  After I standby or hibernate then come back the next day, it is always running again.
I'm running XPsp3 on my T500 in a home network environment.
Tonight I stayed up with it, and it woke up at around 1:59.  I see in the System Event Viewer this event was logged, "The Windows Image Acquisition Service entered the running state".
What is causing this service to start and wake up the computer?
Since this is imaging related, I mention one other thing that I have noticed, that occasionally on startup the built in webcam light will stay on, only going off when I start it and stop it again.

If you are running XP MCE (Media Center Edition), it's likely that there is a scheduled MCE task that is waking your system every night.   When I was running MCE on my former desktop, the system came out of hibernation (as well as standby) in the wee hours every morning.   As I recall disabling the ehrecvr process prevented the behavior (though this has other affects on MCE); there may be a way in XP's task scheduler to find the MCE task and change it to not run if the system is in standby (I'm a little fuzzy on that since I later switched to Vista MCE, and the task is visible there).
Searching on 'MCE wakes up computer from standby' in Google will show lots of similar complaints.

  • Wake from standby causes iPod time and date to go whacko

1.1.3 and iTunes 7.6.0.29, XP Pro.
When my ipod touch is connected and my computer wakes from standby, at that time the clock in the ipod is reset to all sorts of funny dates and times.
I cannot find any reference to syncing of the clock or how to turn it off to see how that helps.
Really annoying. Anyone found the same thing or a solution?

First I would try restoring it from backup via iTunes
Next would be to restore it to factor defaults/new iPod via itunes.
Last I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • X301 and Wake from Standby Issues

I received my X301 on last Thursday, and really like this computer. Over the weekend, however, I noticed a recurring problem.
It seems to be unable to wake from standby when connected directly (not using the port replicator) to an external monitor. I tried different combinations of entering standby:
    1. Shut off external monitor, then go to standby;
    2. Leave monitor on, then go to standby;
I am using extended desktop for the display properties.
When not connected to a monitor, it seems to be OK. I had selected the option to do nothing when closing the lid on the laptop, but changed that when I noticed this issue. It did not seem to make a difference. I have to hold the power button down and shut off the computer to re-boot.
When I open the lid, the message on the screen is something like going into standby, but it should say, coming out of standby. Regardless, nothing happens. I do not think I have password protected the machine. I may have, but also think I deleted this because I thought that could have been causing the problem. At start up, I do not have to swipe my finger, nor enter a password.
    My OS is XP.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I have the same issue.  x301.  Win7 64bit.  I called tech sup.  They want me to back up everything and go back to factory defaults.  This never worked.  It was a problem out of the box so I am reluctant.  I uninstalled the access program that shows wireless options and network connectivity.  Now I can wake, but when I do I have no network connectivity.  I have to reboot to get wireless or wired connectivity.  I'm still looking for a cure.

  • Windows Image Acquisition directory disapperaed after Windows 8.1 update

Hello to everybody, I recently found out that my pc, ASUS N750JV doesn't detect the integrated webcam after updating to Windows 8.1. I looked in the Device Manager to solve the problem but the dicrectory Windows Image Acquisition simply disappeared. So I
called ASUS Tech Assistance but after installing all the relative drivers they suggested me (windows 8) without result, they told me to format C:/ and go back to Windows 8. Can you help me with some solution before formatting the all the softwares I have installed?
Can you help me? I'm rather upset about this fact. My pc is new and Windows 8.1 even newer...

    Hi,
Have you checked out that whether the webcam is fully supported in Windows 8.1\compatible with Windows 8.1? In other words, can you find the specific device driver for Windows 8.1 on the manufacture website?
Latest drivers and related webcam software are usually the cause of this kind of issue.
If you have a restore point, return the system state to a previous state at in case some recent changes mifght cause this issue, check if issue persists (you will lose some recent settings) (this solution is based on a situation that the webcam
was working for some time after you upgraded to Windows 8.1)

Okay. You are not entering the correct passcode. If you forgot or it is not taking your passcode then you will have to restore.

  • Screen doesn't turn on after resuming from standby- Windows XP

    Hi all,
I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 with Windows XP SP3 (recently installed xp), and my laptop goes to sleep fine, but when I try to wake it up from standby, the computer turns on fine, but the screen does not turn on at all. The hdd LED shows that the hdd is doing something, but the screen does not turn on at all. I've tried pressing keys on the keyboard, moving the mouse but still no luck. So since I cannot get my laptop out of sleep, I have to hold the power button and power the laptop off and then back on again. I do not wish to keep doing this since you can corrupt your hdd by doing this too much.
Any help would be highly appreciated..
    Thankyou,
    From Dean.S

  • Wake from standby

    Hello
I have a small problem with suspend. When my laptop wakes from stanby, my screen is just completely black? It has just started happening recently, since i have never before experienced the problem, or any sort of standby problems in Arch.
I have tried to narrow down the problem, to be something with my kernel or kernel hooks, since when i boot my kernel fallback img, suspend and hibernate works perfectly.
Anyone who has an idea what it could be causing it?
    im using kernel: 2.6.28-ARCH

    MarcoRosso wrote:
I got this to work by turning off the autodetect in HOOKS as well. This a quick workaround. The wiki describes how to redo the kernel hooks and does a good job in doing it too. As well, there is a few benefits to disabling it; such as hard drives that are USB are mounted on boot . The only disadvantage that I found is that it takes a little bit longer to boot the system.
    Updated Wiki accordingly.
What you did, basically, is turn your regular image into the fallback image.  The only difference between fallback and regular boot images is that fallback is generated with autodetect hook disabled.

  • TIme Capsule reboots (crashes?) when MBP wakes from standby

If I put my MBP to standby with a VPN connection active, and wake it from standby several hours later, the Time Capsule instantly reboots, dropping all connections. This doesn't occur when the VPN connection wasn't active when putting the MBP to standby.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

I don't have the exact same problem BUT my TM reboots regularly when I am using a VPN link.
Any suggestions how to stop this happening?

  • Airport Extreme "N" does not reconnect after MBP wakes from standby/sleep

I have a closed network and do not have any problems with the new AirPort "N" base station except this one. When I open the lid on MBP the computer does not pick up the signal. I have my closed AirPort network in my list of Preferred Networks and yet I have to choose "Other..." from the drop down menu and type in the network name and password before to get it to connect. I do not have this problem on my PowerBook so I have only to assume that I have an incorrect setting on my MBP. Any suggestions? Thank You in advance.
    MacBook Pro 15" 2.4Ghz 160GB HD   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I had this problem on one of my Airport N units. I deleted the base station from the preferred networks and also from the (I think) two locations from the keychain.
I then connected again and had the Airport added to the keychain again and since then I haven't had the problem.

  • Mac Pro Failed to wake from sleep

    Hello All,
I've had my Mac Pro since Aug. 2007. Never had any problems of any kind until this morning.
To wake from sleep (as I always do): depressed arrow key (10:43 AM). There was a delay - then the spinning beach ball for about 2 min. I did a hard shutdown, waited a bit, then restarted at 10:52 AM. Boot up was (as always) quick.
I logged into my (usual) non-admin account and observed:
When all start up items were loaded: Finder windows appeared approximately as follows:
    1. A window showing the (not sure of proper term) "internal folders" of main boot up volume.
    2. A window showing the internal folders stored on my mirrored RAID back up disk(s)
    3. A window showing the internal folders of my bootable back up.
    4. A window showing all 3 disk icons[ Main boot, Bootable backup and the RAID].
I closed all of these windows. [Didn't think too much about it but it's not normal to have these widows appear] SO -
    Next:
Then I logged out and logged into my admin account to check the system log with console.
It showed an event from last night which I could not interpret but it did not appear to reveal serious problems (something about not being able to make network connection).
But - the second item on the System Log showed the "wake from sleep" sequence (at 10:43 AM).
I'm going to post the entire wake from sleep log below but first I'll state what was obvious to me:
Startup of CPU #1, #2 and #3 appear first - there is NO #4 CPU!
The log for the manual startup at 10:52 showed some apparent problems as I note below.
Next: Once logged in as admin - I launched Activity Monitor just to assure myself that all four CPUs were at least registering - and they were / are.
Hoping someone here can more thoroughly analyze this log report and give me an idea of the cause of the failure to waken.
Naturally, I won't want to put the Mac Pro to sleep again until I'm sure this isn't a "permanent" problem requiring further action (including service, of course).
Also noticed a statement about some app not having correct permissions (apparently at the System level) and something about removing several orphaned files. There's a warning about CarbonCopyCloner scheduled tasks as well. But there my understanding ends.
    Thanks in advance:

    Hello Alexandre,
First - thank you very much for taking time to offer thorough and informed advice.
However - as indicated in my last post, I have performed the first (and very basic) "test" - I checked to see if Xgrid was included in my network prefs and found that it was. I unchecked it because I don't have the setup to make use of processor resources on the other Mac I have in my home network. (And that other Mac is an old G4 eMac - not much help anyway!)
More specifically: it's apparent that I was using Xgrid "inappropriately" so I think the System Log really indicates that no connection can be found -because there isn't one!
I too still wonder about the "missing CPU 4" but, overall, I see no other indications that there's a problem. Activity Monitor shows all four CPU cores and they're all showing activity. I have not seen (or noticed) this in prior System Log reports so, if I see this again - I'll renew efforts to find it's significance and take appropriate action.
I then put my Mac Pro to sleep, waited a bit, then depressed an arrow key: the machine woke from sleep normally. This "solves" the immediate problem of abnormal wakening - at least I'm satisfied that it does and will continue monitoring for any similar "misbehaviors."
Power Management: I have purposely avoided doing anything with Power Management once I had it set to my liking. That is, I set the screen to sleep in 1 hour, I set the hard drive to "never" (sleep) and only use the Sleep menu command to put the Mac Pro to sleep. My dictum is to "not fix what isn't proved to be broken." Again - if I continue to have problems or new problems crop up, I will then go ahead and start making changes such as those you mention. (Like deleting com.apple.PowerManagemetn.plist)
Next: I did already run permissions repair and may do so again anytime I see problems which could be connected to permissions. Since I have "taken Xgrid" out of the picture, I don't think this particular permissions issue is going to be a problem under my current set up.
CarbonCopyCloner: Here we have a bit of a conundrum. I need! to keep CCC "available" to run scheduled back up tasks. I was given (a very expensive) 1TB wireless backup drive for Xmas and - through long trial and error - found that CCC is the most appropriate back up application for that drive.
For now: I consider that the problem is a bug in CCC and will contact Mr. Bombich about this.
Again: I do appreciate your pointing out this and the other things. You have helped me think through what could have been a very complex process in trouble shooting.
I think that my issue turned out to be simple: I may have accidentally touched the wrong key or key combination when I moved to wake the Mac Pro from sleep. I think that Xgrid was a problem but that now seems to be eliminated. The Mac Pro is now waking normally - which was my original objective.
Oh, and just to be clear: I forgot to mention above that I did re-examine the System Log and there are now no signs of the items in the log I posted originally here.

  • Best Way to Migrate Home Folders from Dell Windows 2003 to XServe 10.6

We are migrating Directory services and File service from a Windows Server to an Xserve running 10.6. What is the best way to copy over all of the data including everyone's home folders from the Windows server to our new Xserve while preserving the file attributes?
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jay,
good news for you - since Oracle 11g it is allowed to have a physical standby between Windows and Linux. So the absolutely easiest way would be to build up a standby on your new Linux server, do a switchover with one minute downtime at a maximum ... and that's it.
You may check ML Note:413484.1 for certification (the table shows which OS mix is allowed).
The process will be the following:
    1) Let RMAN build up your standby automatically through the network while your PROD is still running
    2) Once RMAN has done this job you'll do a simple switchover
If a standby solution is not an option for you, then you could use Data Pump on a NETWORK_LINK.
This means: You build up a new and empty database on your RHEL server - you create a database link between those two databases.
Then you run a full import without creating a dump file through the db-link:
    IMPDP usr1/password NETWORK_LINK=db_link1 FULL=Y
You may check out Note:553337.1 for more info on Data Pump.
Transportable Tablespaces or Transportable Database with RMAN would also be an option but those require some additional prep work.
    Kind regards
    Mike

  • Windows image acquistion

I can no longer scan on my canon image class D480. I get the message "windows could not start th Windows Image Acquisition (wia) service on local computor. error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
One thing to check is the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services ( check them in th order shown below ) are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    Shell Hardware Detection
    Windows Image Acquisition
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • The event logging service encountered an error while processing an incoming event published from Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing.

Last night, some of our systems installed updates released on 11/13/2014.
    KB3021674
    KB2901983
    KB3023266
    KB3014029
    KB3022777
    KB3020388
    KB890830
Today, all of the servers running Windows Server 2008 R2 started logging the following error in the Security log over and over:
    Log Name:      Security
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Eventlog
    Date:          1/15/2015 11:12:39 AM
    Event ID:      1108
    Task Category: Event processing
    Level:         Error
    Keywords:      Audit Success
    User:          N/A
    Description:
The event logging service encountered an error while processing an incoming event published from Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing.
Servers running Windows Server 2008 that also installed the updates are not experiencing the problem.  It looks like one of the updates may have introduced this problem with Server 2008 R2.

...Did you for sure confirm that:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS15-001
    is the cause?
I did.  I had a VM that was not experiencing the problem.  I took a snapshot and tested the patches one by one.  Installing only KB3023266 immediately caused the issue to occur (after reboot).  A similar process was used to confirm that
    installing KB2675611 resolved the problem.
Note that I found the installation of KB2675611 is usually quick, but it took several hours hours to install on some of our systems.  We had installed this patch a few months ago on a couple of servers and it was always quick to install.  But,
it seems like installing it on a symptomatic system can cause it to take a long time.

  • Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) is slow. Which start-up services should run?

I recently had to use system restore and make a few changes to get my system running again.  Ooops. I now have a very slow computer whereas it was working fine before.  I haven't recently installed any new software or hardware and suspect that some essential start-up services may have been disabled, stopped or set to manual while some other unused services may have been set to start, automatic or automatic (delayed).
Can someone please direct me to another thread (if available) or list which start-up services should be in which state?
    Thank you!
    System details:
     ~ HP IQ818A
     ~ Windows Vista Home Premium
      ~ Service Pack 1
     ~ 4GB RAM
     ~ 64-bit
     ~ avast! Anti-virus is active

    Sydney,
I don't have an IQ818 at the moment, all I have is an IQ506T - from last fall.  I had just done a recovery of it.
Note:  1) I did choose to NOT perform automatic updates, 2) I haven't yet configured Norton, and 3) I haven't turned off TouchSmart from running in the background.
This isn't exactly your system, but it would be somewhat close.  Your safest bet would be to recover and start over, but here goes with the services listings.  Please note its comma delimited - you can look at it better with something like Excel, Works or Open Office.
    Good luck on this.
