T500 - Update Has Disabled 3.5mm Sound Functionality

I have just this moment finished installing the updates available to me through the Lenovo Message Centre (I think that is what it is called) and it seems to have caused some problems with my audio - specifically transmitting audio through my headphones via the 3.5mm jack at the front of the notebook.
The bizarre thing is that it IS working in some respects -  if I go to RC Sound > Playback Devices > Headphones (states working) > Advanced Tab > Test button, I get a sound playing clear as day.  However, any functionality through either windows error sounds, browser audio, windows media player etc. will play through speakers only.
My current OS is the pre-shipped Vista 32 Basic.  I have an Official Fully Licenced Version of x64 Premium available but was hesitant to install in case this voids my warranty. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to rectify this issue?

it seems that this bug related to i915 chip ( or intel graphic card ) is fixed in kernel 3.18rc3 mainline ( we can find this kernel package in AUR )
there is also another and complete different bug when we use a kernel 3.17 and even 3.18 ( it's a random bug ) but with a similar effect : boot can hang ( the boot process suddenly stops ) :
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=189622

downgrading to kernel 3.16.x is the workaround
I assume my computer is affected by one of these bugs. While I can get to the point where my window manager is loaded, everything almost immediately hangs (but doesn't freeze). Terminal windows become non-responsive and Chromium will refuse input. It's very weird. This happens with both of the 3.17 kernel updates but not in any of the 3.16 releases (including 3.16.7).
This is on an AMD system (cpu/gpu w/ open source driver). Overall 3.17 seems rather buggy.

  • Mavericks 10.9.3 Update Has Disabled Two of My Quad Monitors

I have a Mac Pro 2014 with four 24 inch monitors attached.  Two of them are DVI monitors, two of them are HDMI.  3 of them are attached to thunderbolt connections with Active Display Port conversion kits, one is plugged directly into the HDMI port.  They were all working swimmingly until today's Mavericks 10.9.3 update, which will now not allow me to have more than 2 of them connected simultaneously.  This is incredibly frustrating... I'm guessing it has something to do with the 4k monitor fix contained in the update.  Any ideas for a fix?  Unfortunately, I didn't do a Time Machine backup prior to the update.

    Same issue here!
Btw there was already a discussion in February about these isssues and it got even worse.

    I cannot believe that !
It's already a farce that you have to buy 4 active Apple adapters for connecting multiple monitors of which two are now wortthless?!
On WIN8.1 under bootcamp you just need (1/3 priced) standard ACTIVE adapters to get six outs (ok, I am talking here Single-DVI for  for 4x HD).
And btw. the speed of the GPUs under WIN8.1 can be added via Crossfire settings... (which I can't even compare under 10.9.3 because i am only able now to connect two displays...)
What are you doing here Apple?
This is currently really breaking my business ! ! !

  • 3.1.3 update has crippled my legally unlocked iPhone.

I bought 3 Apple unlocked iPhones in Australia.
We have been using them on T-Mobile.
The Apple 3.1.3 iPhone update has disabled all internet connectivity.
    Can anyone please help?

First of all double check that you have got the right internet settings by going to settings-general-network-cellular data network, if you have ring your carrier to determine the fault is not from their end. if that doesnt work then my advice is to book a genius appontment at your nearest apple store. if your iphone was unlocked officially the new iphone the offer you will be officially unlocked as well (they take your details and authorise your phone to be unlocked) so when next you connect your iphone to your pc you will get that message your iphone has successfully been unlocked.

  • HT4623 My iPad 3 has lost the speaker sound after updating to iOS 6.1, headphones are working fine

My iPad 3 has lost the speaker sound after updating to iOS 6.1, headphones are working fine. Please help me out, done all the troubleshooting like restarting, side switcing, cleeaning the headphone jack etc.,

Hi I also have this problem. Sound was only working on the headphones and also on the volume slider in the settings app. Everywhere else I get no sound and no volume slider. Now the headphones don't work either.
    (I'm using an ipad 2 iOS 6.1.2)
And NO it's not muted. I've reset all settings and restarted the iPad. Been searching forums for a couple days. Some say its a dirty docking port problem, others suggest a Skype or other app update that could be the problem.
No volume control icon appears when I press the volume control buttons. Only says sound effects, if it says anything at all. Most often there is NO volume icon. YouTube, video, music, and other game apps, no sound.

  • Download of update in Mountain Lion has disabled my Wifi.  Why

For at least the third time, I have downloaded an update to Mountain Lion and it has disabled my wifi!  Why?  Can anyone help?

The pop up saying there were updates to my OS (Mountain Lion) available and I chose the Update button which restarted my MacBook.  When it restarted, it would no longer connect to the Wifi.  When I went to Network Preferences, the Wifi is turned off and will not allow me to turn back on.  Additionally, the device does not recognize any networks and just continues to "search" for them.
This is the 3rd time this has happened to me when downloading updates to the OS!  Every other time has required support to get involved.  I am wondering how many other people this has happened to?

  • ITouch G5 has lost its sound function

My iTouch G 5 has again lost sound.  This happened about 5 weeks ago (the device is 4 months old) and I brought it to
a very reputable Apple reseller.  I was told it was not the device, but probably a software problem---they did fix it.
It has now happened again (I use it to listen to podcasts and newscasts---and to access email; I don't even use it for
music listening, and the number of apps loaded onto it is very minimal).
Is there a way that the sound function could be restored without my having to bring the iTouch in for repairs when this
happens?  (The repair fee wasn't huge, but if this keeps happening, it will add up).   Thanks for any insights.
    (I'm REALLY technically challenged!)

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • After downloading the "new version" of Java 6 times, my plugin-check page states that it has disabled my "outdated version" and asks for me to upgrade. What do?

    Background:
I have had this problem for several months, now. This problem began when an update came for Java on the Firefox Plugin-check. I promptly installed the new Java update. But the Firefox update wouldn't register that I downloaded it, even after I refreshed the page. So, I got rid of the old Java, and downloaded the new Java again. When the page continued to display the same message it had before, I downloaded it a few more times. Finally, Firefox stopped saying that I was out of date. Then a few weeks later maybe, I check Firefox Plugin, and on the page it says that I am outdated in Java. So I downloaded Java again. But Java was still in the list, with red and said that it needed to be updated. I restarted the computer. Then, I restarted Mozilla Firefox with no add-ons. When Java still appeared that it needed to be updated, I gave up and didn't do a thing more about it.
    Problem:
Today I decided to check my plugins. Java was not in update the list, and at the top a banner stated, "Missing JAVA? For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version." I clicked "upgrade to the latest version" and was led to the Java page. I clicked the download button. My cache stated that this was the (6) download of that same Java plugin (see background). I chose to re-download it anyways. But Firefox still insists that I have not downloaded it.
    Question:
Do I need to go to the control panel of Java and change something? Do I need to fix some setting on Firefox? Should I disable Java altogether, delete all Java-related files on my computer, and start all over with Java? What should I do?

Try using http://ninite.com/java/ninite.exe to install Java. Please note that even though you download it you have to double click it to get it to run and install.
