T500 W7 - Fingerprint not working - UMTS not switchable

Hi everybody,
I just upgrade to win7 on my T500. Almost everything works, except of 2 things.
Somehow I can not bring the finger print sensor to live. I have installed the latest bios, lenovo software and drivers and the fingerprint software keeps on telling me that it can not identify the sensor. I have removed the driver over and over again and reinstalled the lenovo sw multiple times. No help. The sesor shows up in device manager OK.
Any ideas?
The second thing which does not work is the buttons feature (FN F5) to switch off/on Networking. The list shows WLAN, Blue Tooth, but no UMTS. UMTS is always on and does work. I just cant swith it of with the help of the onscreen menu anymore.
Any ideas on that?
Thank you for any help,
Merlin

  • BAdi: Meaning of "active not switchable through custom" ?

Looking at a BAdI implementation on the tab named "Enh. Implementtation Elements" of se18, there is a checkbox labelled "active not switchable through custom" . What exactly does this mean? And if I uncheck it, where in the IMG might I be able to customize BAdI activity?
I have observed that a BAdI implementation was active in one client (the one in which it was developed) and inactive in another one (the test client) when this box was unchecked. So it doesn't seem to have anything to do with having an active version of the code.
I'd also appreciate a pointer to documentation. SAP help wasn't much use to me.

  • T500 on screen display not working

I searched, but have not found any other posts with this problem.
I re-loaded Windows Vista 64 on a new hard drive, and have re-installed all drivers.  I installed the hotkey driver for on screen display, and the tab appears correctly in the advanced display properties.
The on-screen display was working properly with the default Vista driver, but once I installed the dual graphics drivers, the on-screen display has become about 2 pixels high, just above the windows task bar. I tried changing the font and size and color in the setup tab, but this doesn't fix it.  I have uninstalled and re-installed the hotkey driver, and also the display drivers.
Any ideas for this strange one?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you! That did it!  For others benefit, here are the instructions from the earlier thread:
There is a bug, so the size isn't really set, and you don't see anything. That's why you have to edit the size in windows registry editor. Click Start -> RUN-> type "regedit" BE CAREFULL with this tool! Press CTRL+F .... and find "OnScreenDisplay" Whole path will be: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IBM\TPHOTKEY\OnScreenDisplay Change "Size" value from "00 00 00 00" to "00 01 10 10" (right click on "Size" -> select Modify Binary data). Close Registry Editor. That's it.
My on screen display driver is the latest.  I am using Vista Business 64 bit, so maybe the driver for 64 bit has not been fixed yet.
    Thanks again!

  • T500 - Conexant HD Audio not showing up in Device Manager

I was recently given a new T500 that had been set up with XP for work. Upon trying to set up some audio software, it displayed an error stating no device was found. I then went and got the latest drivers, but these failed and state "no MEDIA available". How can I check that the Conexant HD Audio is present and working?

    Hi,
    Try this...
In Fabric Manager  File > Open > Fabrics
Verify "Use FC Alias" is not selected.

  • T500 Ethernet Port do not recognize cable

I am testing a T500 with Windows XP (from recovery DVD). I did the following:
    1) Connect it by ethernet cable to my DSL router.  The connection establishes.
    2) Connect it with the same cable directly to another computer. The connection establishes. This means, that the ethernet chip correctly changed the pins automatically, because normally one would need a cross-link cable for this.
    3) Connect it again to the DSL router (the ethernet chip now has to change the pins back). No connection establishes. The LEDs at the T500 remain dark. I have to restart the T500 to establish the connection again.
I have the newest ethernet driver (9.52.10.1003). The problem was confirmed with different cables. The behaviour is always the same. After step 3, another computer has no problem to connect to the DSL router with the same cable end. Therefore I would exclude an influence of the router or the cable.
Sometimes even directly after start, the cable plugged in is not recognized.
Could this be a hardware problem?

By the way: In the last time, sometimes the green LED near the camera switched on without any camera program visible running. Is this indicating, that a (hidden) program is using the camera?
Whenever the light status of the camera is on, that means that your or some program have turned on the camera and it is now active, so yes something or someone is using your camera. Although.... on my model the light of the camera IS red when you turn it on. Are you talking about the status light bars like the moon crescent (sleep), bluetooth and what not?
ping 127.0.0.1 brings a response within less than a ms. Does that mean, that the ethernet hardware was found?
That implies that the hardware does work (if it can reconize the cable)
ipconfig /all brings up a MAC adress but no IP-Adress of the ethernet. (I set a fixed home adress for this before.)
If you have an IP address then the lights are on, so we are confirming the situation.
Have you tried The Network Connections Applet in the Control Panel? (Hit Windows + R Key, type ncpa.cpl) Check if you have a Local Area Connection (I beleive its Intel Gigabit or something of that nature) under that panel. If you don't.... there might be other problems. If there is then disable and re-enable the connection and see if the lights go on. I'm guessing there's a faulty detection device.

  • T500 - Internet Wireless Adapter Not Detected

I am at a loss right now since I have never encountered a problem with a computer that I couldn't solve at all. On my T500 (2081CTO), I had an XP OS and everything was working fine (almost). I decided to install the original Vista that came with it and at the same time updated the BIOS to the latest version, I think 3.18, before I installed Visa Home Basic. After the install, there is no wireless adapter deteced. I can't get any internet without a cable. Here is everything I have tried already:
    Install all Vista OS updates
    Run Lenovo System Update
Install standalone Wireless drivers from Lenovo directly
    Resintall the drivers
Physically remove, clean, and re-insert the wireless adapter
Check settings in BIOS to make sure all wireless devices are enabled
Disable and then re-enable wireless LAN/WiMax in BIOS
    Clear CMOS
I don't know what else to do, besides some costly and time consuming options, like reinstalling XP instead, getting a new adapter, or paying someone to fix my own computer.
    Here are some additional clues:
Under device manager, only Intel 82567LM Gigabit Network Controller is listed under "Network Adapters"
There is "Other devices" under which there is "Network Controller" with an excalamation mark. I have been unable to install the dirvers for it
Finally, I do not have Lenovo recovery disks and had to install Vista from a downloaded version online. At the end of the install is asked me to install drivers, which I thought sounded weird, and chose not to. If I have to pay $30 to get a replacment disk for something I already own, I'd rather buy Windows 7.
So this is my dilemma and I am not sure exactly where my problem is. I would appreciate any help or insight.

You probably just need to download & install the drivers for the WiFi card... (You probably also need the drivers for some other devices as well, such as AMT and Card Reader, IIRC) You can get them on the Lenovo Driver download page, http://support.lenovo.com - (Drivers & Downloads) just put your MT/M number (from a label on the bottom of the laptop) in the "QuickPath" Product selector... (If you can't find the MT/M just put T500 in.) Then look for Wireless LAN drivers... If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest getting a copy of the Windows 7 Pro Recovery discs for the laptop and THEN install the afore mentioned drivers... Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have further questions about this... • Fingerprint not showing up in the sign in option on windows 8.1

hi everybody. my fingerprint scaner is well  installed ; the device manager shows that it's working properly , but in the sign in option the fingerprint is not shown ; ans I can't use it; I ran up gpedit.ms and enabled using the biometric device but the problem still the same.

  • Bug in Password Manager, when fingerprint not available. Please investigate

I've got all my password manager entries set to NOT ask for a windows password if fingerprint reader is not available or not working.
So if i go to gmail, and the fingerprint window comes up, and i check the box fingerprint reader isn't available, and click ok. nothing should happened, which is what happens normally.
However, I've noticed a bug a couple of times, which allows you to enter a windows password for entries that it shouldn't.
Just happened now, after a fresh restart of my computer, after everything loads up + 30 minutes, including password manager icon in task bar. I opened IE8, got to facebook, clicked on fingerprint reader unavailable, it asked me for my windows password and logged me in.
Then I double clicked the password manager icon in taskbar, opened my facebook entry, and checked the fingerprint unavailable box, and nothing happened. Like it should. I closed password manager, closed IE8.
Restarted IE8, went to facebook, and tried it again, but this time it worked like it should.
For some reason, I was allowed to access my password manager entries through my windows password, when that option was disabled. This is terrible, as people in my household know my windows password, but they shouldn't be allowed to enter my private password manager entries.
Could you please investigate the bug/cause in this, and fix or advise me on how to prevent it from happening.
Either that, or Password manager doesn't work as designed, and therefore isn't secure.

  • T500 DDR3 1333 - Will This Work?

    Hi,
I've got a quick and hopfully simply question.
    According to this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-55644#t
My T500 can support PC3-8500 DDR3-1066 SODIMM. However, the availablity of 1066 DDR3 where I live is virtually non existent, while I can easily purchase a 1333 DDR3. Will it simply work at the lower frequency, or can I expect problems?
    Thanks a lot!
    Solved!

Crucial's and Kingston's memory finders show both 1066 and 1333 RAM as compatible with the T500.  You should be OK if you stick with a reputable supplier.  Avoid value RAM.
Crucial Memory Advisor results for the Lenovo ThinkPad T500 Series Laptop/Notebook.
I'm running Crucial (1066) in my T400.  There are reports of compatibility problems with our vintage ThinkPads and Corsair RAM.  YMMV.

  • T500 - Windows Update no longer works after using factory recovery disks.

I'm running  Windows 7 32bit.  I needed to restore my T-500 hard drive because of a fatal windows registry error caused by a 3rd party registry cleaner/tuner software... Windows 7 was DOA .
I used the factory recovery disks I created after I first fired up the laptop in April this year, all went well, Windows 7 booted up, and I went through the "Starting Widows for the first time" setup dialog, Windows 7 sucessfully activated... also verfifed it on the Microsoft website.
Went into control panel to have windows update pull down all of the critical updates released after I got my Thinkpad and I got a pop up saying "windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."
I checked... the windows update service is running, so is BITS.  Following suggestions from Microsoft support, I have 1)deleted the softwaredistribution folder from C:\windows, 2) run their "fixit tool", 3) renamed the CatRoot2 folder in C:\windows'system32, all to no avail each time I tried to use windows update after each "fix".
I decided to check here if anyone here has gone down this path before and ask what fixed it?
I'm waiting for Microsoft support to reply to my last email informing them the last instructions to rename the CatRoot2 folder and retry windows update failed. They now have a copy of my windowsupdate.log file sent to them.
How about it... does this situation sound familiar to anyone?
    Thanks.

I run into the same problem with fresh installation of W7 Pro on T530 with 1TB samsung disk.
    This solution worked for me:
Running check for updates will trigger this error message:
“Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.”
    Solution:
    1.    Go to Administrative Tools/Services, and stop the Windows Update service.
    2.    Then go to the folder c: /Windows/SoftwareDistribution and delete all of the files and folders.
    3.    Then go back to Services and restart the Windows Update service which will recreate all of those folders again.
    4.    Then manually run the Update Service and everything should work.

  • About 2 scream!!! NOT SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS PROBLEM!!! Vid card seems 2 FAIL PERIOD!!!

I have the dv7-6135dx with the intel/radeon 6490 blah blah blah. You guys know the machine. Every time i try to find information regarding the bleeding ati card, all i can find is switchable graphics this switchable that, bios update for switcha....
When i disabled the dynamic in bios long ago, i lost ability to control screen brightness. Was very dim. Haven't tried it again.
When i plug in a monitor to HDMI port=nothing. Vga port works fine but i can not watch any video greater than 1.2 Gb without super skipping and digital breakup of the video (the million tiny boxes thing).
From ati site, auto thingy detected my card, gave me best driver, installed and when i open catalyst, it always says can not start because no ati device.
Before? I could watch 18gb hd vids with stunning performance. Now? Its dvd rips or choke and die.
Can SOMEBODY.... ANYBODY tell me what if any troubleshooting there is to see if the card is shot, or if there is a fix please? One that does NOT involve some gahrbajje about bleeding switchable bloody graphics?
Thanks in advance for any and all help in THIS matter.

    Hey,
i don't know if this works, but for my TimelineX laptop it works:

I don't know if there is an "official" version, so I can just provide you with the link above. This script stops my radeon card when I boot. I only have as kernel parameter i915.modeset=1
