T510 FHD display not bright enough

i prefer lenovo's matte finish screens--very little glare--great for business purposes.  However, i use the laptop outside a lot and therefore need the brightest possible display, for use in sunlight, where primarily i'm using outlook and Word.  In Feb 2010, i bought a T510 with the FHD (270nit; 95% gamut) screen, and it was perfect for outside--very bright and easy to see.
then my laptop was stolen! Insurance bought me a new one--same exact T510 (only with outlook 2010 instead of 2007) with same FHD screen.  Problem is that it's definitely not as bright.  i turned up brightness in windows and in thinkadvantage.  also maxed out brightness in the NVidia control panel (which did nothing, since that's really for video playback), and i even have played with the color-saturation brightness and other levels in the intel HD control panel (which increased the display somewhat, but still not as bright as my previous T510--also tends to wash out the colors and makes outlook a bit harder to read).
also weird: about once a day, on battery, the display dims almost to darkness, then gradually brightens back up in about 20 seconds.  i'm using max performance on all battery settings, so don't why this is happening.  not a big deal, but i thought it might be connected to the above problem.
i talked to lenovo warranty/service tech, who had no other ideas, other than to return the unit--which i don't want to do, as i've now got this one all set up.
any suggestions, folks?
much thanks,
jeff

my display is not bright enough to read on my psc 2410 multifunction photosmart printer

    Hi there,
Lets see if a reset will rectify the issue: While printer is powered ON, pull the power cord from the printer then from the wall. After 30 seconds reconnect power to wall and printer (eliminate any power strip until we have identified it is not part of the problem). This will restore the printer to a known good condition (if it is possible). Let us know if it helps.
    Best of Luck!

Have you plugged the USB cable into the computer also as the brightness is controlled over USB. If this does not work, you would need the Apple Display Driver for the version of Windows that you are using. The display driver is part of BootCamp software that you may be able to find online

my ipod touch is on but is not bright enough i try to turn it off but it wont work what should i do?

Did you make sure that the brightness is turned up to max in Settings/Brightness?
Is anything covering the brightness sensor?
    Brightness
Screen brightness affects battery life. Dim the screen to extend the time before you need to recharge iPod touch, or use Auto-Brightness.
Adjust the screen brightness: Go to Settings > Brightness and drag the slider.
Set whether iPod touch adjusts screen brightness automatically
Go to Settings > Brightness and turn Auto-Brightness on or off. If Auto-Brightness is on, iPod touch adjusts the screen brightness for current light conditions using the built-in ambient light sensor.

See if you can fix it by resetting the device.
To reset, hold the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again.

  • A720 - whites on display have a bluish hue, not bright enough

Just got my A720 and the whites on the display are more dull than my other LCD/LED displays. I have the brightness as high as possible and have uses the button that changes color temp but still cannot get bright whites.
any solution to this? hardware problem?

    hi jstrasser,
I too have a A720, but i must admit i've seen that issue with mine. Would it be possible to send a photo of your screen. I'd like to check it out and make a comparison. Another think you might want to do is to update the Graphics drivers. At thime it can cause the color brightness of the Screen.
You dowload the drivers @ http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_show_5811.html
Do let me know how it goes.

  • 27" not bright enough

Recently, I bought a 27" LED Cinemy Display (Model MC007ZM/A) for my MacBook Pro (Model 5,1/Late 2008). It is connected over the mini display port.
But even when I close the drapes, the new display is so dim, that it is really exhausting for my eyes to work with it. It is considerably dimmer than my old internal notebook display. Approximately the same brightness as if I turn down my laptop's brightness 6 steps (with the F1 key). Of course, I have already done a calibration and turned the brightness to maximum in System Preferences / Displays and turned off auto adjustment (which also does not help).
Is there any way to make it brighter? I'm getting a headake.
    Thanks

  • T510, thinkpad display not present unless in safe mode

    Odd situation.
The notebook display itself does not work in WIndows (Win7 64).  Boot to safe mode, BIOS, recovery etc it's there and works fine.  But partway through booting up in "normal" mode the notebook LCD goes blank.
    An external LCD works fine.
Going to graphics options, there is no option for the notebook display.  In device manager, and enabling display of disconnected devices the Thinkpad LCD does show up as a disconnected device.
Again, booting to safe mode, BIOS setup or Thinkpad recovery the notebook LCD works just fine.  Just not in Windows 7 normal mode.
Uninstalling the Intel video driver resolves this, reinstalling it brings the problem right back.  Also have installed the latest version directly from Intel's site to no avail.
I should note that Fn-F7 brings up the menu, but changes nothing.

Open a command prompt as administrator then run "sfc /scannow". If the issue is a corrupted system file this should fix it.
    From the MS support site:
Some commands that you can run using Command Prompt might require elevated or administrative privileges. To run these commands, you can use the Run as administrator command.
To run Command Prompt as an administrator
    Click the Start button .
In the search box, type command prompt.
In the list of results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • T510 FHD screen--trying to max the brightness outside.

i love thinkpad's matte screen--very little glare.  However, i use it outside a lot in sunshine, so need it to be really bright enough to see.  The FHD is bright, but want it a bit brighter.  i've tried all the windows and lenovo settings and gotten it as bright as it can go.  i also upped the brightness in the Intel HD control panel, in the color settings.  However, i see that, in the screen resolution settings, under advanced settings/color management/advanced, lenovo lets you change the device profile from the system default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1) to Lenovo Thinkpad MaxBright Display.  is that something i should stay away from for some reason?  is it maybe analogous to the old "overclocking" concepts?

    Hi Having Trouble,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If the brightness on your MacBook Pro isn't adjusting as expected, try resetting the computer's PRAM first. This step can help with many display-related issues.
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information.
    Best,
    Jeremy

  • With the new update my screen is not wide enough for the format. How do I change this?

After the new update, the screen shows only 3/4 of what is presented. I have reduced the size of the print and that did not help. For instance, in typing this, once I got as far as "presented" the screen had to shift to the left to allow me to see what I was typing. It did this automatically. I don't know what caused this in the latest edition of the update, but it has caused me a number of problems in doing on line banking because unmovable windows do not show enough to allow me to hit the submit button.
I want to see the entire window when I log onto a site. When I now open Yahoo News for instance, I cannot see the last three inches. I can see them if I move the page over, but up until now, I have always seen the entire page when it comes up without having to take any action on my part.
Where do I go or what do I do to get it back to how it always functioned before?
I opened the learn system and it references a Mozilla tool bar which I do not have either. Don't know if this is relevant or not.

    Hello,
Firefox on Windows is now following display scaling options which may render text larger on high resolution displays. There's more than one way to resolve this problem. See the [[Webpages are large and blurry after updating Firefox - how to fix ]] article for one suggestion. Here's another possible solution:
    * Type '''about:config''' into the Firefox address bar and tap on the Enter key.
    * If the warning '''This might void your warranty''' appears, click '''I'll be careful, I promise'''.
    * Search for '''layout.css.devPixelsPerPx'''
    * Double-click on layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to modify its value. The default is -1.0 in Firefox 22 and above. Change it to '''1.0''' to make it work like in previous Firefox versions.
If necessary, further adjust the value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps. Use values between 1.0 and about 0.5 to reduce elements in size. Use values greater than 1.0 to increase size. For example, a value of 1.25 will increase font size to 125% to accommodate the default DPI setting in Windows 8. '''Double check the value that you enter.''' Setting a too small value will make everything disappear and a too large value will blow things up.
If web pages still need to be adjusted then you can look at the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ Default FullZoom Level] or [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/ NoSquint] extension.
To adjust the font size for the user interface, you can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/ Theme Font & Size Changer] extension.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • ExpressCard/34 not working in BootCamp Windows 7 64-bit. Apple's BIOS emulation does not give enough resources.

    MacBook Pro unibody, 15" 2009
ExpressCard/34 (Card is by Transcend TS-RDF1, JMicron chip for SD card) is not working in BootCamp Windows 7 64-bit. Windows reports:
"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."
Other data points: Card works fine in Mac OSX, worked under Windows XP 32-bit (initially reported same problem, but works after reboot).
Checking the forums there seems to be no actual device suggested to actually remove that would help the problem. And even if it was, the concept is ridiculous. What other device would you like to remove? Display adapter? Network adapter? No way. I use all available devices and don't want to compromise.
It seems like BIOS emulation does not allocate enough resources to ExpressCard.
Are others having the same problem?
Does anyone have a fix for this?
Is there anyone at Apple who cares to provide a solution?

It is not a driver problem, but a problem in the BIOS emulated by bootcamp on some (not all) MBP models. So unless Apple fixes it in bootcamp, there is no real solution. And obviously, Apple doesn't care. They are dropping the Expresscard slot anyway.
Unfortunately, this poster seems right: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=912259 :
The 2008/2009 Macbook Pros don't allow to use the ExpressCard slot because of EFI/Bootcamp errors (Windows Vista/7 cannot allocate an IRQ to the slot). You don't need any drivers for using an ExpressCard slot on Windows, you only need the drivers for the corresponding card you are using.
Bootcamped XP allowed to use the slot, but you could not use hot-plugging.
    And from the Sonnet site ( http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo_sata_express34.html ) :
Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 not supported under Windows 7 or Windows Vista when running on unibody MacBook Pro computers. The problem is caused by the MacBook Pro's BIOS emulation, which doesn't allocate enough resources to support certain kinds of Expresscard/34 devices, such as a SATA controller, in these operating systems.

  • 23" Cinema Display not working.  Please help!!!!

I recently purchased a dual 2gHz MacPro Tower and a 23" HD cinema display (both factory refurbished by Apple). Everything worked flawlessly. Then...
I was away from my computer for about a week, during which time both the computer and the monitor were powered down the entire time.
Now my CPU boots fine, and I can hear it responding (when I raise and lower the volume, etc.) but the ACD won't fire up at all. The light on the front isn't blinking or anything, and I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do (I've already reset pram, replugged everything in, restarted several times, etc).
I've also done the ULTRA obvious stuff like brightening my display (which does nothing). I don't know how a less-than-a-month factory refurb that's been off for a week could go kaflooey, but any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem although it may be USB related. It started with my 2 year old 23" display not waking up when it and the computer (3 month old 15" Mac Book Pro) were asleep overnight. The first two nights this happened I'd restart everything and it'd all be fine. The next couple nights I noticed that if I just unplugged the USB cable from the display into the computer, it would all wake up and function just fine. Today (the 4th day or so, and the day I finally have time to research what the problem might be) the display won't start up at all. There is no indicator light (and never has been in these situations) on the ACD. According to my Display menu bar and my system profiler, my computer definitely recognizes that the monitor is attached (although this was not true the first time the ACD acted up). My mouse also acts as thought the ACD is online... I have now adjusted brightness, and unplugged absolutely everything and replugged it all into a different power source. Still no go... Haven't had a chance to buy a new brick, not really sure that'd work for me... any ideas?
If it were the brick- based on what I've seen on the back of my ACD, it doesn't even look like you can disconnect the cord?
and just a side note... in exploring this problem i noticed that you can choose what the power buttom on the ACD actually controls in the Options menu of the Display System Preferences... is this only for older OS's? because my display preferences has absolutely no Options menu in it...
    Thanks.

  • MacBook Pro and 27" Display not playing nice together

I'm having a rather strange problem with my Early 2011 MacBook Pro and my 27" Apple Display (Mini-Display port). They don't want to play nice together. The display will randomly/intermittently disconnect and turn black, then reconnect, sometimes after a second or so, but sometimes not for a good 10 seconds or more.
    - My MBP works fine on other monitors (Thunderbolt 27", 24" LG via DVI adaptor).
    - My wife's MBP works fine on this monitor.
    - Had a tech look at the monitor, his MacBook works on it fine too.
    - The combination of my MBP and this 27" Apple Display gives you the result shown in the video.
It happens quite frequently -- often enough to make working on this combination unbearable. But I have no clue as to what's going on here.
In "System Information" under "Graphics / Displays", the display not show up as connected to either the PCIe or Built-In graphics adapter when the 27" has turned black. When the screen is on, it shows up.
Here's a YouTube video of the symptoms.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0C50k0189I
I'm stumped. Does anyone have any ideas?

Your video shows the MacBook Pro display turning blue for a few seconds, several different times. This is an acknowledgement that a display is coming (or going).
Unencumbered by anything sensible, my diagnosis would be that you have a loose connection.
Mini DisplayPort cables can be diabolical. When inserting, you must make certain that essentially ALL of the metal end disappears inside the computer jack.

  • Slideshow looks soft and not sharp enough

Slideshow with LR4 for raw and JPG files is not sharp enough (seems a bit soft or appears not enough resolution) when comparing to using ViewNX2 for NEF files or using photo explorer of Windows 7 (with plugin) for DNG files. The same result for a small notebook screen or a 42" 1080P display. Any one can provide help on this? What is your best way to conduct slideshow of raw files for the right resolution that meeting display size? I have set my standard preview size to 2048pixels and medium quality.

How are you are you playing the slideshow (i.e. inside LR using 'Play,' exported PDF or Video) and what type of template are you using? It's best to match the template aspect ratio to the target playback screen aspect ratio. For my 16:9 1920 x1080 monitor I use a custom 'Widescreen Template like this:
My previews are also set to 2048 pixels, medium quality and PDF slideshow exports are sharp. If you read the post I linked to you will see that LR on Windows 7 causes portrait images in the PDF slideshow to have jaggies, which actually appear onscreen as "over-sharpening." I rarely use the LR Slideshow module full-screen 'Play' function, but just checked it for comparison. You are correct, both landscape and portrait images in the LR full-screen slideshow 'Play' mode appear slightly softer than the Slideshow PDF export at 'Screen' resolution and 91 Quality. What is interesting is that there are no "jaggies" in portrait images when using the native LR slideshow 'Play' mode, so the images are being rendered differently than the slideshow 'Export' modes.
IMHO, the slideshow module has become an orphaned stepchild of LR with issues that Adobe has ignored since LR2. For the best possible rendering I'd use 'Export PDF Slideshow' using the target viewing screen resolution and 90+ Quality, but there is this caveat:
LR has at least three different implementation versions, concerning this LR Slideshow Module behavior:
                             Stroke Border      Portrait Images
Mac OS:           Causes softness    OK (no resample artifacts)
Windows Vista: No issues               Resample artifacts (jaggies)
Windows 7:       Causes softness    Resample artifacts (jaggies)
This was at least the case for LR3.6 and I'm pretty sure LR4.1 has the same issues.
