T510: Gaming power only at 40 Watts

I formatted my laptop and updated the bios, now my computer can't handle games I used to play with ease.
I have my power settings at max, before it would run at 90 watts. Now only at 40watts.
I have a T510 with NVS3100 video card. Could it be discrete video is not being used?
Moderator Note: Edited subject to match content.

T510 does have Optimus Nvidia technology in later model T510.

  • Why the CPU Frequency will just stated at 1189MHz when the X230 had AC Power ONLY (Battery Removed)?

    Dear All,
I bought a X230 (i7) notebook.  I found that if removed the battery from the notebook and only use AC power with the X230 Notenook.  The CPU frequency will stated at 1189MHz.  It will not change no matter how many program the notebook is running.  The CPU frequency will rise to 2.9GHz or upto Turbo when the Notebook with battery or battery and AC power.  Why the CPU Frequency will just stated at 1189MHz when the X230 had AC Power ONLY (Battery Removed)?  This is not right.  Any setting in the X230 Notebook need to change?  Please help.

The situation is probably the same as it was for the X220. A 65W power adapter by itself doesn't provide enough power to run the computer at full speed, but it can when combined with a battery. However the 90W adapter may be able to run the computer at full speed without a battery.
As it was with earler X-series. This is by design. It allows people to travel with the smaller, lighter 65W adapter. However for maximum speed and flexibility it's best to always use the 90W adapter.

  • MuVo2 (1,5G): Can I Use output power only (not install the battery) when I listen the mus

    Hi Sir:
When I am in home and listen the music on MuVo2 ,can I use output power only (AC power) and remove the battery ( the battery is not in the MuVo2)?
This is good to the MuVo2 or not ? (have any damange?)
Because I always use the MuVo2 in my home, I think to charge AC into the battery, and use it until in low battery , then charge again.. It seem to a little stupid....
Can I use AC(output power) only when I listen the music ? and remove the AC(output power) when I close/shut down the MuVo2 ? ( I know , the usermanual say it is not good to MuVo2 if AC(output power) "always on" the MuVo2 even it's shutdown.)
I saw in the usermanual there will be a little image indicate the MuVo2 is "output power only".... So can I use output power only or not ? Is it good to MuVo2?
    Thanks a lot !!
    ( Your product is great~!)

    Richard,
Yes, you can use the player on the AC outlet only if you want, that's fine.

i upgraded from an early 2008 penryn 15 inch macbook pro to the fully loaded 2.13 ghz 13 inch macbook air, and i will tell you that the mba runs starcraft 2 BETTER than my old mbp. it doesn't make sense since the mba is inferior (atleast on paper) hardware-wise compared to my old mbp, but yeah - i am able to run starcraft 2 on medium/medium settings and it runs like butter in os x. i couldn't even do that in bootcamped windows 7 on the mbp with updated gaming drivers for the 8600m.

  • Gaming apps only have audio through ear buds

Gaming apps only have audio through ear buds.  All other apps, music, and video have audio through the external speakers.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Power supply, how many Watts?

    Hello!
I had som trouble when doing music on Steinberg Cubase SX2. When the CPU load reached 30% it started to jump, up to 30% extra and then back. Once it occured it continued pumping up and down.
I increased the performance mode in Bios from Slow to Turbo on my 875N NEO main board, and it worked. But not for long since the computer turned back to Slow mode without me doing anything. After turning back to Turbo once again the system didn't boot. The D-Bracket's diagnostic LED's gave this message:
"Boot Attempt - This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h"
I don't know what this means.
I let my system cool off and restarted it and it worked - in Slow mode!
I got the feeling that the power supply couldn't deliver enough Watts and Performance mode automaticly turned back to a safe mode.
My power supply delivers 300W. This is what I have installed:
    1 DVD-ROM
    1 CD burner
    2 Harddisks
    Graphics card - MSI Gforce4 MX440SE-T
    Sound card - EMU 1212m
In performance Slow mode - I have used the diagnostic tool SiSoft Sandra and getting very different results when running CPU, memory and cache benchmarks. Sometimes the results are half of what the supplied reference curves indicates. But other times everthing is correct. All the bus speeds are OK.
Can this be explained by not enough Watts. If so how much power should a system like mine have?

Here's a post I wrote in May in another forum, when I discovered the importance of a good PSU
Your system crashes? Did you really...
    ...check all components??
In 90% of cases, you will forget the most important component, the Power Supply Unit (PSU). Before spending money in changing RAM, MB, graphic card, read this:
I Wanted to share my experience in my last crash issues.
    I have a fast P4 2.8G 512Mb, GT4600, 2HD, 2 optic drives...
Never had issues, till I begun adding hardware:
LAN, Surround Sound, wireless keyboard/mouse, USB hubs, IEEE devices...
Random varried hang-ups, reboots, crashes, never the same circumstances
I noticed a CPU temperature increase. Suspecting an overheating, I tried running my PC with the case open. My problems became very rare.
Then, I upgraded to a Radeon 9600 Pro: crashes, reboots, overheating of CPU. I invested in a ThermalTake Subzero 4G cooler with independent power supply. My problems disappeared or rather became sparse. I again thought it's the overheating.
Last week, my Subzero 4G advanced cooler died, and the CPU burned up to 75¡ã before crashing. I returned my subzero and went with a Zalman 7000Al-Cu cooler.
System experienced seldom reboots, crashes and was no longer possible to work on it. Sometimes, it will reboot during the boot process, before even windows begins to load.
This time, I finally thought at my Power Supply Unit, a generic 300 Watt.
Browsed a bit on google, and found that my 300 watt would never be able to supply my too heavy equipped system.
The Power Supply Unit (PSU), is maybe one of the most important components in a PC. But it's also one of the less known. we often buy or assemble a PC. The case includes often cheap generic 300-350 Watt PSU. All works, till the day you add a HD, buy a new power hungry graphic adapter, increase RAM... then crashes, reboots, overheating appear.
They are related to the PSU delivering high load voltages to the units and low voltage to other parts, since it is over loaded. Often it ends with CPU overheating, PCI/AGP cards burned. In my case, I now think it was overvoltage to burn my PCI card controlled Subzero Cooler.
After long hours of browsing the forums for PSU reviews, I changed to an Antec Truepower 550 watt PSU, and no more reboots, crashes or over heating.
Also, this solved my LAN router (supporting 1024 sessions) being reset under emule. Probabily too much power requested by the many open connections that my PSU couldn't deliver.
An advice, if you experience crashes during games, burning CDs, reading CDroms, overcloaking or especially sudden reboots, check your configuration. If you have something like a P4, a new power graphic card, plenty of HD, then look at your PSU. If it is some generic 300-350 Watt, before changing RAM, motherboard, graphic card to solve problems, spend soome 150$ in an Antec or Enermax 480-550 watt PSU, and most of your headaches will be solved.
Take a review of PSUs here
    http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1841&p=1
they don't include the TruePower 550, but the TrueControl 550. They are just same, but the TrueControl have a front panel to manually adjust voltages, only for hardcore overclockers.
If you wonder, why at the begining my problems were solved just by running the system with case opened, then you must know that all PSU have their output power decrease as temperature increases. All sold PSU in the public market have their max output tested at 25C. At 70C, they are all rated for 0 Watt output. You understand the importance of a well supplied, but also well cooled system. The best in the market is Antec/Enermax. Take care with Q-Tec low price PSU, many bad reports on MSI motherboards forums

  • G5 No power, only 1st LED on at test

    hi,
I have read many of the posts here relating to Imac g5 not starting up. I have the same problem. I have a g5 ALS. I did the LED test. The first LED comes on but the second LED would not flicker or come on. So, I concluded (from the apple support info on the net), that my logic board was gone. I replaced the logic board an hour ago and: NOTHING! The same thing! LED 1 on, that is it. Did I miss something? Should I have had replaced the power supply in stead? Please help! Lost in Paris....
    thank you

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum so please be gentle...
My iMac G5 2nd edition (with Ambient Light Sensor) froze today and the fan went berserk. Only option we had was to shut the thing up by pressing the power button. Now the mac won't boot anymore. When I try to boot it sometimes the light on the front lights up and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the chime sounds and sometimes it doesn't. The screen stays black. I cannot boot from cd player either. I tried the procedure as written in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2173?viewlocale=en_US
The first and second of four LEDS on the back are on permanently (which is good according to the article), but the third is not, which should indicate that the computer and the LCD display aren't communicating and no video signal is being generated.
I want to be absolutely sure that the logic board needs to be replaced and that I tried everything there is before I run to the store to buy me a new iMac.
    Any suggestions? Thanx!

  • 2011 Macbook Pro suddenly says no space available on start-up disk (plenty available) and USB drawing too much power (only charging phone). What's going on with my computer? No longer able to charge my iPhone 5.

    Hi, all.
Two days ago I was using my computer, a 2011 Macbook Pro, and suddenly got the error message reading "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using. Closing windows and removing files from your startup disk will also help."
I was only using Google Chrome, nothing was running in the background, and I have 443 of 449.25 GB available (this is after clean-up I conducted after receiving the error message, but probably cleaned up less than 25 GB), so there should be no shortage of space. However, the message kept popping up and I deleted a few files and eventually it went away and hasn't reappeared.
However, last night and then again this morning I have been getting the error message that my USB drive is pulling too much power and has been disable. All that was plugged in was my iPhone 5 on the charger and my computer is also on its charger, so I don't know why this would be an issue, either. I have always charged my phone this way and never had a problem until today.
I haven't been able to charge my phone since. What's going on with my computer?

  • TS5148 Apple TV turns on with no picture...pulling power only solution

Every time I switch to my Apple TV I get a blank screen on the TV an no amount of button pushing or TV "changes" fixes it. Only fix is to pull the power plug on the ATV.
    Ideas?

Sorry, I updated another thread I was a part of but didn't update my own thread.....ughhh!
I updated all of my ATV 2's and 3's to the latest firmware when it was released and have been problem free since. I do believe the major issue of not being able to connect after a period of inactivity has been corrected with the latest ATV firmware.
I can look at my network connection table using "netstat -an" in a CMD window and I do not see the massive number of connections I saw before the update.
Here is a link to the other thread I was referring to above:

Have you applied the latest firmware updates to your ATV 3's?

  • Power only CHARGES battery in one direction but provides power either direction

So I have a MacBook Pro... I think it's 2010ish. I've noticed that suddenly, the way I've always plugged my power in doesn't actually charge the battery. The battery recognized that it's connected to power but says it's connected but not charging. When I turn the plug around, it sees the power then starts charging. It's really annoying since the direction that will charge makes the cord more in my way and more likely to rip the entire laptop off the desk if it somehow gets pulled (not likely, but still). I would understand if it didn't work at all in one direction, due to the explanation I got here http://superuser.com/questions/111705/why-does-my-magsafe-power-connector-only-w ork-one-way-round (first response by redtuna), but since it kinda works both directions, I'm not sure that applies. My computer is completely updated. In fact.... now that I think about it, it might have started when I updated. Any ideas?
Also... In about an hour of ONLY playing music, my battery went from 96% (at which point it stopped charging so I haven't gotten back to 100% in awhile) to 19%. Any ideas on this either? The power was plugged in the whole time!

If it's out of warranty you bet. No fix is cheap on a Mac out of warranty.
More then likely the logic board will need to be replaced as everything is either soldered to or built into the logic board.
    Good Luck & Best Wishes.

  • Java uses up WAY too much cpu power only in firefox.

I seem to have found out that firefox is using up to 60% of my cpu power(average of each core). It seems to be a problem with Java and maybe windows 7 64 bit. When I turn java off it's fine and uses maybe 10% tops. But since 2 main sites I use use only java I can't just turn it off.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I moved up from Win XP 32 bit up to 7 64 bit.

Ok I guess you have stumped me, but disabling java in the past did bring down my cpu usage. Cpu usage was no where near as high using that looping radar and this open, around 10 percent or less. As for extensions I only have the java console and skype. I've tried using gmail alone without my usual tabs, also tried facebook(which I thought were the culprits) but cpu usage didn't stay up, only spiked at loading. So I guess it's back to square one...I'm wondering if it's just having a somewhat good amount of tabs open. Last night though was fine when I opened firefox just to see.

  • 1150 B85M Gaming power up on its own

Hi, I just built a pc for basic computing work and web surfing. After the build the unit would power itself up after I shut it down from window. It would power itself up anywhere in the interval of 5-45 minutes. But if i shut the unit down by holding down the power button from the front of the case, it would stay off indefinitely until i power it up using the same button. Please help as i play around with multiple setting in bios but it is still doing the same thing.
    Hardware is at following:
    1150 B85M MicroATX Gaming motherboard
    G3258 cpu
    TP-link wireless card
    2x2gb Kingston RAM
    40gb intel SSD
    APEX DM-387 case
    win7 32bit

As keep the pc on standby is there any wake event enabled in bios (e.g. wake on lan)?
I do not see any wake on lan feature in the bios after going through it several time. I might have missed it if it is within the advanced feature dealing the overclocking.
I currently have these features adjusted with no success:
    -Setup Wake Up Conf
         Wake Up Event By                         [OS]
-Restore after AC Power Loss               [Power off]
-Intel (R) Smart connect Technology     [Disabled]   (I don't really know what it is and have not research it)
-I have also adjusted Boot priority as: 1st is Intel SSD
                                                        2nd is DVD/DVD-R
I disabled the rest of the boot feature

Here are the drivers you will need to install on your computer:
    Power Manager for Windows 7:

ThinkPad Power Manager Patch module for Windows 7:

I would suggest going into your Programs and features and uninstalling the Power Manager from your computer, same goes for the drivers associated with it in device manager.
Once uninstalled I would then download the drivers from the links above.  This will give your computer a fresh install of these drivers.
Please let me know of the progress.
    Hope this helps,

  • USB Cable for power only?

    Hey everyone,
I want to be able to use the USB cable to provide power to my Ipod, but not install Itunes. Here is the situation:
I have a set of desktop speakers at work and I like to plug my Ipod into them to listen during the day. Of course over time my Ipod battery dies and I need to recharge it. So I need to stop listening to music and plug the Ipod in b/c I can't seem to figure out how to get the USB cable to provide only power to the Ipod. The screen says "Do Not Disconnect" and won't let me operate the Ipod. Now it is my company computer and do not (and can't) install Itunes. Is there a way for me to get the USB cable to only provide power and still operate my Ipod. Yes, I could shell out the cash for another power adapter or one of those docking stations, but there must be an easier way.
So desired end state is: Ipod plugged into computer (with no Itunes) being charged and listening to music over the desktop speakers. Any ideas??

    Hi Raife!
First off, when it says "Do Not Disconnect" it is charging, but no, it won't let you fuction on it.
    Try this:
    Connect your iPod the computer.
When it says "Do Not Disconnect" on the screen, try resetting it: hold the "menu" and center buttons together for about 7 seconds. The Apple logo should appear for a few seconds before returning to a normal screen.
In this state, your iPod will be charging from your computer's USB port, but not displaying "Do Not Disconnect".
Note that when your iPod is completely dead and has no battery, it may have to charge while asleep/dead for about a minute or two before you can reset it or operatte it while connected.
Or, you can eject your iPod (you don't need iTunes):
In the bottom-right corner of your screen (with the System icons), there will be an icon that is a grey rectangle with a green arrow floating over it, representing the "Safely Remove Hardware" program.
Open it, and stop the "IPOD" process.
    I hope this helps you,
    -Kylene
