[T510] Keyboard Not Receiving Power

A Month ago, my motherboard randomly shorted out and the computer would not turn on. I called Lenovo, and took it to a repair shop. They said it would need a new motherboard, and gave the system back to me. I managed to fix it by resetting the CMOS Battery, and now it turns on just fine but the keyboard is unresponsive and the touchpad is a bit unresponsive. Does anyone know what the problem is? Could it be the battery, or is it the keyboard, or is it another component of the computer that is causing this. I think the Keyboard is not receiving power b/c none of the LEDs are lighting up, and the keyboard isn't working (been using On-Screen Keyboard for now).

Hey there xtremecello,
When you reset the CMOS Battery, did you have to remove the Keyboard/Touchpad at all to get to it? If so, did you check to make sure that you reconnected it properly? If you haven't seen it already, the Hardware Maintenance Manual has directions for this around page 93.

  • Mini 210 not receiving power

I'm stumped on how to fix my mini 210 and I'm hoping someone can help me.
I started having problems with the computer not recognizing that it was plugged in. After a while the tip of the power cord actually broke off so I thought that was the whole problem.
I replaced the power cord and the computer worked fine for about 10 minutes. Then it stopped recognizing that it was plugged in again. After a while the battery died and would not charge so my computer has been DOA for a while now.
I did a little research and thought it might be the power jack that was the problem. I ordered a replacement, put it in and reassembled the computer. It is still not recognizing the power cord.
I checked the connection from the power jack to the system board and there didn't seem to be any loose, broken, or missing pins. When I put the battery back in and tried to power on while plugged in, I got 2 blinks of the light that's by the power cord but nothing else happened. I tried it again without the battery and got no lights. I put the battery back in and tried again but still no light.
The only other thing I can think of is a loose connection on the system board but I'm not advanced enough to be able to fix that. Can anyone else think of anything I may be able to do before giving up and buying a new computer?

Try to check if it's just the OS not recognizing the power. With the battery out, and power cord plugged in, does it continues to provide power? This means if the power LED lights up.
If still no, I would recommend buying a new one. This is a perfect excuse.

  • HP G72 Not receiving power and not starting

Hi, so my G72 is not starting at all. Here's the backstory...i have been getting the internal battery message for a while at startup, approximately three weeks, and just ignoring it. We also had bad thunderstorms a couple of days ago and because of that our router was actually fried. My laptop was plugged in but not on. But, the weird thing is, my laptop worked for the next two days perfectly fine afterwards until i took it to my friend's house. There, when i plugged in, the charging light didn't appear. I moved to anothe outlet, still no dice, and actually i began to hear a high pitched beeping from my AC charger, the kind of beeping where you know somehting is wrong. Did a little research and came to the conclusion that it was toast, or at least not working like it should. SO we grabbed some other chargers that were rated for the same voltage and maH as mine, and tried them...after a couple minutes of trying them, we got my buddy's Dell charger to work, or at least make the charging light turn on. Thinking we fixed the problem, we took it out and put the other dell charger that was similar in, and again, the light wasn't coming on. After that, no matter what we did we could not get my laptop to get a charge light. I tried the hold power button down for a minute thing, and that didnt work either. I've ordered a new battery and charger, but now i don't think that will work either, and here's why...My mom has a g62, which uses a similar battery and charger. I plugged her battery into my laptop, no start up, even while using her charger, there was no charging light. This makes me think it is either the motherboard is dead, which would really upset me and may even deter me from buying another HP, or something is messed up with the AC jack on my laptop, which doesn't make too much sense saying as it worked PERFECTLY fine for 3 years until one day, which uasually those things get intermittent until they stop working. Any ideas or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated, as i am willing to try anything if it means not spending anothe 800 bucks before i have to pay for school and car insurace and for the proposal I'm planning for my girlfriend. Thanks muchly.

    Hello Soccermike,
I understand that your computer will not boot.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
Also try to boot without the battery connected.
If you have tried other adapters it may be a problem with the board.
Make sure that the wire for the adapter is not loose.
Try to just wiggle the wire for the adapter inside the computer.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • How to make sure speakers are receiving power Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5938

Hello, I have been troubleshooting my sound issues with my laptop and have deduced three possibilities; Speakers not receiving power, IRQ problem, or a Sound card issue.
All sound is still being registered by the OS, I have uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, and made sure the correct output device is selected. Sound does not work on my other OS on a different partition.
My Device Manager shows everything running correctly, and all services are running.
    Help would be appreciated.

I hope you're not offended if I suggest you check the volume-control dial on the front of the computer in the center.

  • Pavilion dv6 - laptop receiving power but will not power on

    Pavilion dv6-6c53cl
    Windows 7
As of earlier tonight, I can no longer power on my laptop. (I powered it successfully earlier today.) When the power adapter is plugged in, the indicator light on the laptop next to the power connector socket turns on, so at least the laptop is receiving power. I've tried removing the battery and disconnecting the adapter, draining the power, and reconnecting the adapter with and without the battery in, and in various orders. I've also tried removing and reseating both RAM sticks and the hard drive, all to no avail. Any suggestions?
This is the fourth major failure of this system---the first three were a fan problem just weeks after purchase, a hard drive failure, and another fan problem---since I purchased it 22 months ago, and I feel I've bought a lemon.
I'd like to avoid taking this in for repair if possible, because the local repair contractor (I live in Australia) badly bungled the previous repair: They took several weeks even to start on the repair, failed to fix one problem, and introduced a second, more severe problem (a keyboard failure, which somehow they didn't test despite apparently removing and reseating it when fixing a fan problem). I asked HP support about this, and the rep said there were no other shops near where I live that do in-warranty repairs. Please help!

Can you post the different things you have tried and Current version of OS on this notebook?

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.

  • OS X 10.4.11 will send but not receive faxes on Power Mac G4 MDD

OS X 10.4.11 will send but not receive faxes on my Power Mac G4 MDD. Perhaps I should remove the relevant .plist preference file(s). But which one(s) is it /are they? Or is there something else I should do?

Thank you for your reply, BDAqua. I have set the fax feature to answer after 3 rings, but the phone rings only once when someone is trying to send a fax. The phone icon in the menu bar changes to "ringing ..." but nothing more happens. The phone line on which I receive faxes is dedicated to that use. I phoned in to its number earlier today from another phone. I heard it ring once and then it went to the busy signal. I then disconnected the fax phone line from its wall jack, connected a phone to the jack, and phoned in to it. The phone now rang and rang as it should. So this confirms the assumption that the fault is in the computer, presumably in the Print & Fax software. I should also mention that I don't find com.apple.print.FaxPrefs.plist in /Library/Preferences.

  • Not enough power (New Keyboard)

I'm not sure if this was also a 10.4 issue, but has anyone had any issues connecting say... an iPod or flash drive to the usb 2.0 port on the new Apple keyboards? When I do so, it says not enough power to power the device.

Unfortunately, I really want to use my flash drive there... But the ones i have apparently are high-power devices.
Does anyone know which usb flash drives work with the new alu keyboard? Indirectly the error message says that some flash drives will work in these usb-slots.
It's pretty useless to plug it in at the back of my Mini every time I use it.

Should I check the memory cards themselves? Reseat them?
    Yes.
Memtest X or Rember to test the RAM.
    Reseat is also good.
The iPhone 4 doesn't like USB 1.1 much.
after the update the computer was working well, except for this freeze when ever I connect iPhone.
I'd try USB 2.0 PCI. That's how I connect my iPhone 4s, and have connected all iPhones and iPods, to my G4.
    Never an issue.
Can't say the same for USB 1.1.......
The above (previous post) linked PCI card is cheap enough.
    Want cheaper, try this:

  • Why will my iPad 2 not recognize any iPod cables? I have tried two different cables in both the wall and in my laptop, but it will not register that it is receiving power, nor will the laptop recognize that they are connected.

Why will my iPad 2 not recognize any iPod cables? I have tried two different cables in both the wall and in my laptop, but it will not register that it is receiving power, nor will the laptop recognize that they are connected.

Crizzo is right, the best way to charge is with the included power block. That said, the USB cords are interchangable as far as an of us know. (just not power bricks, iPhone and iPod bricks put out 5W of power, the iPad wants 10W and will always say 'not charging' if plugged into less power than it requires even though it will charge, just very slowly)
    If you have tried to charge your iPad - with the iPad charger - with multiple cables and multiple computers and get no joy then it's time to head to the apple store and have them check it out. The 30 pin USB port can go bad - mine did - and it's a manufacturer's defect (unless there's any sort of obvious damage) and should be covered under the warranty;

  • T410 won't boot, blank screen and keyboard unresponsive at power up.

Hi, my Lenovo T410 laptop won't start. I hit the power button and it looks like it's about to boot up. The thinklight blinks on as normal, the cd drive is checked, the caps lock button blinks on, then nothing. No display, and keyboard is unresponsive. Power light remains on; if I leave it a while the fan comes on. I can turn the machine off using the power button, but the problem remains next time I switch it on.
I've tried removing power and battery, pressing power button 10 times then holding power for 30 secs, before replacing power and battery, but nothing happens. I've tried using a different keyboard. I've tried plugging in an external monitor. No change.
This problem appeared after I left it on overnight. I have a hunch that it went into hybernation mode, perhaps, and that it disrupted some important function which it was unable to complete. Not sure though. Any help gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    Pete
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi, Fn+F7 didn't do anything.
So I took out the HDD and both RAM modules, including the one under the keyboard. At power on it beeped as follows: 1 beep, followed by 2 series of 3 beeps, followed by 1 beep.
I replace the HDD and one ram module under the keyboard leaving the other one out - this didn't change anything; I then switched up the RAM modules - again, no change. Does this mean the motherboard and processor are OK? What could the problem possibly be in this case? Very mysterious!
Incidentally, I should perhaps have mentioned that I kept the unit in an unheated room and it did get very cold there a few days ago, which coincides with when the booting problem first appeared.

    Hi,
By the information that you have provided, it sounds like you are using STAMINA mode. If you are using STAMINA mode, you need to set WhatsApp as active in standby via Settings > Power management > STAMINA mode > Apps active in standby > Add applications > WhatsApp.
You can find more info about STAMINA mode here.

  • MSI K8N Diamond Posting but then keyboard not working or frezzing

To save me writing it all again here is what i sent to MSI tch support. Would like to add to what i have wrote below that when it freezes i get a sound like fast clicks coming from the case speaker . Oh and also have tried removing battery for a while. I get the feeling it more than just a keyboard problem and is something more seriouse.
After reading here i should also have added the powr supply voltage stuff but i am in a diferent house using my mothers PC. I know the 12v was 17amp but not sure about 5 and 3v. I think 5 was in 30s and maybe same for 3v. I will check tjhat later but i dont think it a power problem although to run SLI i will have to get a new power supply by looks of it. I have tried disconecting everything except the Graphics card and the processor to minimise power needed. My PCU was £50 and it didnt say what the amps where for 12 5 and 3v before i baught it or i wouldnt have. though with it being 480w and £50+ it would be good enough to run any PC i could build. Anyhow i dont think it that i get feeling the BOIS is corrupted or something but without keyboard going i cant flash my BOIS. Also i have since noticed that the processe i have isnt listed as one supported on MSI web site. I purchased the motherboard from DABS and in specs it said it supported all 64 and X2 AMD processors. Anyhow please help me if you can
Oh and in post where it freezes it lists my processor as a AMD Hammer model unknown?. Dont think that right for the 3000X2 but i cant be sure.

Problem Description: I have just built my own PC with one of your motherboards. You can see the configuration above. The problem i am having is that when i start it up it begins ok but then says CMOS error loading safe defaults or somthing simalar. under that it says press f11 (i think it is) to continue or del to enter setup. Problem is i dont think my keyboard is initilalising. I have tried 3 diferent keyboards all PS2 conections. But non of then seem to work and i can not get into set up. I have tried resetting the BOIS with the BOIS reset botton. Also i have noticed that the keyboard LED light that usually light up when keyboard is working are not lighting up as if they not getting power. It list my memory. 1gb of it but it says my Prcessor is AMD but of unknown model. I am guessing i could sort that if i could get into the BOIS or get keyboard working and update the BOIS maybe. The USB conection bracket that comes with the motherboard that has 4 diagnosis lights on it stop when they get to 3 RED and 1 Green in top right pos.In manual it says this is (Initializing Floppy Drive Controller).
It was stopping before with 2 GREEN and 2 RED. A Green in top Left and Bottom Right and A RED at top right and bottom left. In the manual it says this is(BIOS Sign On). When it was stopping there it stopped on the MSI graphics Full Screen LOGO Display. It said press delete to enter setup ot TAB to goto POST but as now keyboard didnt seem to work. I removed the Wirless network card that comes with the mother board and now it goeas past this screen but gets stuck at the part i said above.
I have now tried removing things one by one. I have so far removed all CD and DVD devices, Hard drives, Floppy drive and network Card. Also i have removed the extra netwok bracket conectors. I now only have the Memeory, Processor and the Graphics cards installed. I would like to mention also that before i had installed the 2 graphics cards i had tested it and it was stopping at the (BIOS Sign On) I could tell this with the 4 LED light for diagnosis. I thought that was due only to no graphics cards but once i installed them it was same. I only got by that by removing wirlessnetwork card that comes with the mother board. Please respons quickly as i am building this as a chrismas pressent for my daughter and it would be a disaster if i cant get it going before christmas.
    Thank You
    Joseph Gary Winters.

    Joseph,
You are building a very nice system for your daughter.  It is however a very power hungry system. I suspect that your present PSU cannot provide enough sustained amperage annd wattage to its 12 volt rail to satisfy your motherboard and peripherals needs. My recommendation are that you acquire a new PSU that will provide a minimum of 24 amps on its single 12 volt rail. If you get a multi-12 volts rail one; insure that it will provide a minimum of 18 Amps on each 12 volt rails. Wattage should also be sufficient to leave you a minimum of 300 wats available for the 12 volt rail(s). Look at a 500 + watt PSU from a reputable OEM.
You may also have by now a very conmfused BIOS/CMOS so before you go shopping for PSU do the following:
1- Turn off, unplug and remopve old PSU:
2- Reset CMOS using Button (if CMOS Jumpers available reset CMOS with them too and leave in reset position)
    3- Remove battery form motherboard
4- Go shopping for new PSU and buy a new battery for motherboard while at it (they are relatively cheap)
5- Install new motherboard battery and reset CMOS jumper if needed
6- Re-install PSU and connect to only needed items (motherboard X 2, one VGA card only, one HD, and one CD)
7- Try re-booting straight to BIOS setup and then reset its options to suit your system, (pay particular attention to RAM voltage)
8- Save and exit to a Memtest86 disk and run for min 8 hours with no errors
9- if OK suggest you reset and load your OS from a stream installation CD with only minimum peripherals attached.
10- Once your OS is onboard then add other peripherals
    Good luck,

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
There is an ongoing major outage...formal information is available here:
    http://www.rim.com/newsroom/service-update.shtml
From my experience, this is affecting BIS, BES, and all services that depend on those (BBM, email, AppWorld, web browsing, application access to internet data, etc.). Troubleshooting specific problems during this outage may be pointless.
Once the outage clears, if things are not yet flowing for you, please try these steps:
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!
