T510 screen brightness dims after startup

I've noticed this on our company's new T510's we're getting.  When you start them up, the screens look to be full brightness.  But after a few seconds, the screen dims half way or so and you must manually Fn+[Home] to make it brighter.
How do you change the default way this is set up so that it doesn't go dim after a few minutes?  Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
You can use lenovo Power Manger to create a new power scheme or modify the existing one to change such settings. Switch to Advanced mode to do so.
Hope this helps.

  • Screen is dim after software update

For the last day and a half, my MacBook screen won't go to full brightness. I have the power connected and I've rebooted and I'm using the screen, but it's still in "power save" or dim mode. It used to be that the screen would dim on battery power after a few minutes of not typing. Now it's just always dim.
The last thing I did before this happened was install some software updates that I was prompted to install. It says the System Version is Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G66) but I'm not sure what all it upgraded Saturday night (there were like 12 downloads).
Maybe I can use Time Capsule to back out the upgrade and see if that helps, though the one time I tried to do that was a nightmare.....

You can't use the brightness key on the keyboard to increase brightness?
Also, try a SMC and PRAM reset. Shut down, unplug the magsafe, take out the battery, and hold down the power button for at least five seconds. Next, put everything back and start up holding command-option-p-r until it chimes twice. Then let it start up normally.

  • Screen remains dim after waking up on virtual terminals

I am having a strange issue when the display gets dim and won't get bright again, but only when I am no a vt.
I have an older (~4 yrs) Dell Studio 1737 with a Mobility Radeon inside with the xf86-video-ati driver:
    $ lspci | grep -i vga
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV635/M86 [Mobility Radeon HD 3650]

When I leave my computer on one of the virtual consoles (vt2 - vt6) and it is idle for (I think) 10 minutes, it gets dim (via DPMS, I guess?) . However, I can't make it go bright again - after I move the mouse (which I am not sure makes any sense since I have no mouse in the vts) / press any key, nothing happens.
Now, the strange thing is, when the light is right, I can just see the text, but it is very, very dark and unreadable. Under normal circumstances I can see nothing and the screen can't be told apart form a blank black display. Actually, I had thought it was blank for a while until only recently, when I had the Sun shining against the display.
I wrote a simple script whose name is 'b':
    echo 10 | tee /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
and I left the console as root (!) for 10 minutes (!) and when the screen went dim I called 'b' and nothing happened. I have no other ideas about how deal with this one - I tried reading and looking around, and have pretty much nothing. Does this problem ring any bells? Does anybody know how this can be fixed (apart from "just don't leave it on the vt for longer than 10 mins" or similar ;d - these have occurred to me already). Of course, if you need any more information about my hardware, I will provide it.
I am running a constantly updated arch.

    From the news page here...
    http://xlr8yourmac.com/
See if it's related to this...
It also seems to be related to later OSX versions, like 10.8.x & 10.9.x
The 2012 macs (and later apparently) (also later OSX versions on earlier Macs can do it also), not waking normally from sleep after hours being in sleep. (noted here ...

The sleepimage file still reappears even if never slept. Delete it (hibernate off, etc) - within minutes its back.

  • Screen auto-dims (after idle time)

Is there any way to turn off this 'feature'? It's very frustrating whenever I'm trying to watch a movie (say from nova online) or anything like that, I'd rather it be entirely in my control. (this is more than just environmental light detection, it's just randomly going dim after about 30 seconds of not being used.....very frustrating.

System Preferences>Energy saver>Sleep>Move the sliders to the right.
System Preferences>Energy Saver>Options>Uncheck the "Automatically Reduce Brightness" box.
System Preferences>Desktop & ScreenSaver>ScreenSaver>Move the slider to the right.

  • Imac screen will dim after leopard install

Since installing leopard on my imac the screen will dim a small amount after awhile and then when I star to use the mouse it will brighten up again. Is this normal with leopard?
My Mac pro dors not do this.
    Thank you
    Dcik

Ever since I installed Leopard on my iMac G5, periodically the screen will dim. This seems to be random, and not related to any specific program I might be running. The screen dims to the pre-sleep level, and doesn't brighten in response to anything I do other than sleep the computer and wake it again--no keystrokes or mouse clicks have any effect. I've tried everything in the Energy Saver prefs, and nothing seems to make any difference. Fortunately it doesn't happen all the time, or it'd be a real nuisance, but for that reason it would also be difficult to reproduce the effect for a repair person, in the event that it's a hardware problem. Has anyone else encountered this?

  • Screen Brightness reduces after Mac OS Update

I had updated my Mac OS to 10.6.3 from 10.6 on my macbook pro. I noticed after rebooting of my system, the screen brightness has reduced considerably. I reset the PRAM and noticed my brightness return back to normal lever but again reduced after login page appeared. Can someone provide me with a solution to the problem..

    Hi there,
I experienced exactly the same when I updated one of my Macs recently. I was running the update & the screen reduced it's brightness as it usually does before it goes to sleep & then once it had restarted as part of the installation process, the brightness was more or less at it's minimum setting. I increased it to it's usual setting & this was then retained as usual. You shouldn't notice any further reductions in brightness as I believe this is just due to the screen's powersave process kicking in during the installation.

  • Screen is dim after reboot

I'm hoping someone can assist.  I'm not the best at the Mac OS, but I'm having an issue where I had to reboot my Macbook Pro (2011).  When it restarted, the screen is really dim and when I try to log in, I get some status bar at the bottom that only goes about 25% of the way, then the screen goes completely black.  I have no idea what to do.

has found a workaround.  Thank you, aplgc."Futher testing has given me a reasonable work-around until a new display driver can be distributed. I have changed the the keyboard sleep button action to HIBERNATE.    {control panel} {power options} {edit plan settings} {change advanced power settings}  under {power buttons and lid}- select Sleep button action & set to Hibernate. I have also set the auto sleep timer to a longer time  {1hour).  So now when I use the keyboard sleep key,  the computer hibernates instead of sleep.   This requires a power button press to resume, but the screen brightness is normal and all is well.     If  an auto sleep has occured and the screen is dim--a hibernate cycle will restore brightness without rebooting. Hope this works for others".Source

  • Screen brightness resets after every start up

Hi all, haven't been here in about a year. My imac's brightness has been resetting to the darkest point every time I shut down then subsequently start up (next day, whenever). I always had it set at it's highest point, which is what I preffered, and now I have to set it with the keyboard EVERYTIME! Not the end of the world but a little irritating. I don't know if it's related but also lately my normally smooth running imac has been hanging up on me with the spinning beach ball of death and I routinely have to initiate a "force quit" but don't have to actually force quit any app. for the imac to resume as normal. All I have to do is close the force quit window, wierd. 3rd party culprit?
    Thanks guy's.

Sounds strange.. Have you done the usual maintenance people around here suggest... repair permission.. clean caches? That's what I would do considering your other problems.
May want to try a Utility like this:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26516
Also, you may want to consider creating another account.. set that account to open upon boot... and see if the screen problem persists. If it doesn't, then it may be an issue with a preferences file...although I'm not sure screen brightness is controlled by a preferences file.. worth a shot though.

  • My imac screen is flashing after startup?

I may have a problem with my imac's screen flashing around the dock right after blue screen it shows up.
The dock will flash for a 1sec or 2sec and thats it.
Do i need to test the memory because i did install Hynix 2 X 2GB PC3-8500S DDR3 and they where from a macbook pro?
Will i need to take them out and leave in 2 original sticks then restart the imac to see if it corrects the problem?

A screen flash is not related to RAM. It's some other issue, which could be software or hardware related. You can start by doing some basic trouble shooting including restarting in Safe Mode and doing both a SMC and PRAM reset. It's OK to do each of these actions multiple times and it may be necessary to do them multiple times. If they don't help you can try some other things which we won't address yet.
    iMac
    SMC & PRAM Resets
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Screen flashing grey after startup and no status bar

Recently, whenever I try on my mac for the first few minutes after the startup, the screen starts flashing to grey and back.
After the flashing stops, I got no status bar. I can still press the buttons there (Wifi, Bluetooth, etc) but cannot see them (as seen in image).
Does anyone have any clue what it might be?
    Thanks in advance!

    Try this:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Frozen screen and alarm after startup

I have older laptop in the Satellite series running XP.  When it starts up it will load the blue Toshiba screen but then freezes and will go no further.  There is also a continuous "ding,ding,ding......" alarm sound.  The F2 and F12 keys produce no change, nor does the "c key" when I try to install the system restore disc (starts to load and then stops). Response is the same whether running on battery or ac.  Anyone know what all the above means?  Many thanks!

  • Vista Black screen with Cursor after Startup

Recently, I had a crash in a Skype call with someone, and everything went downhill from there really. I started up my computer again, and I was able to get past the welcome screen, and to a black screen with a cursor. I tried opening up task manager, it
didn't work at the time, and eventually after my computer freezing up, I shut it off, and this time windows wanted to run check disk. So I let it, I was able to get in this time but I got a blue screen saying REGISTRY_ERROR. I was freaking out badly now, thinking
my entire system might be corrupted, but I wouldn't give up easily.
I started it up in safe mode, which surprisingly worked. I had a boost in moral at this point, because all my files also loaded. I started windows normally. I had the black screen thing again, but after a while I had a program pop up. I proceeded to open
    task manager.
It opened up, and I ended the old explorer process (which was using a very small amount of memory at the time, if that matters at all) and loaded up a new one. This one worked. I am currently posting this on the same computer that has the issue.
I seen others who had similar issues, but I could open task manager and start up explorer.exe, so I am a special snowflake among these other ones.
I don't quite know what a good way of going about the issue would be, should I system restore? Is there a problem with the shell? I don't exactly know what I should do, any sort of information should help.
    Some other possibly unrelated things:
Recently, my driver has been crashing (should I update that, is that the reason this is happening?)
My files are all intact, I saved important ones. What should I do?

Nevermind. I took matters into my own hands and it took only a single system restore to fix the issue!
    Crisis averted!

  • FW  800 screen goes dark after startup

My 1.25 GHz FW 800 15" Powerbook is having startup problems similar to some things I've found here but not identical to any of them.
It boots normally to the Finder but, after about 1 minute, the trackpad and cursor stop responding and then the display goes dark and the machine goes into what seems to be a low power sleep mode -- Caps Lock light still on but display will not illuminate if keys are pressed. Machine won't wake and must be rebooted.
This happens while connected to a 65 W power adapter and with or without a battery in place. (Tested with 2 different power adapters.) Power lights on the battery indicate full charge. Connector ring shows normal green status.
If I boot from a DVD, the machine runs indefinitely without shutting down but the keyboard and trackpad don't respond and I have to use an external keyboard and mouse (both of which work normally). The fact that it runs indefinitely seems to differ from the known temperature sensor failure; the fact that the trackpad and keyboard don't work in this mode may still point to a top case problem, though.
Based on these symptoms, I assumed that I needed to replace the PRAM battery (backup battery). Unfortunately, even after carefully replacing the battery and letting it charge while connected to the power adapter for several days, the same symptoms persist. (Tested with 2 different replacement PRAM batteries although one of them may have been worn out.)
Resetting the PMU has not changed anything. Resetting PRAM has not changed anything.
This has happened in both OS 10.4 and and a fresh install of 10.4.8. Apple Service Diagnostics found no hardware problems when run for multiple cycles.
I'd appreciate any diagnoses or suggestions for repairs.
    thanks,
    pat

    adamgritz,
I'm quoting myself from an earlier post...
"This behavior on the Wallstreet running any version of OSX is normal •IF• you have no working main battery and you also disconnect the power adapter. Once all power is lost to the power manager, OSX somehow modifies the power manager in a way that causes backlight issues. Booting back into 9.x cures the problem; in addition, this issue does not occur with 9.x and loss of power, only OSX. As long as the power manager is maintained via a charged main battery and/or power adapter, this "fix" will stick. The PRAM battery (internal rechargeable backup battery) can maintain the power manager for a few hours if fully charged (and working) without any other source of power but your 10 year old Wallstreet probably has a dead or weak battery...these powerbooks will run without a PRAM battery."
In addition, if you do not have 9.x installed, any bootable non-OSX CD will solve the problem.

  • Problem with screen brightness P500 after installing Windows 10

I Installed Win 10 yesterday. I can't change the display brightness since then. I have the latest driver for display adaptor ,dated July 2015 , that has been installed by windows 10. I tried to install the older driver for display adaptor from Lenovo site. But, Windows 10 does not accept that. I appreciate if you can help me!
