T510: Which Lenovo app puts caps lock symbol on screen?

The caps lock symbol that appears on the sceen when you turn on/off the caps lock key is cute, but it has a tendancy to hang around all the time, even when the caps lock is turned off. Is there a way of turning this feature off?

There's an option for that.
Right click the desktop > Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings > On-Screen Display tab.
I think the default may have been changed somewhere along the way, so a hotkey package update might also do the trick.

The Caps Lock Symbol shows up automatically in the password login box

All of a sudden this keeps happening, and I can't log on as the Administrator anymore, as I usually do.
When I restart the computer, the Caps Lock button lights up automatically, before I touch anything.
When I click on the ID that I want to use to log in, and type in the password, it doesn't work (presumably, because the letters are all cap, and my password is all lower case.
If I press the caps lock button to take it off, the caps lock symbol shows up in the Password box, so my password still doesn't work.
Any ideas on how to get rid of the automatic caps lock, when I can't even log in as Admin to make any changes?
I've already tried re-starting; taking the battery out and restarting...

I've figured out a way to log in as Admin, so I've solved that problem, and I've figured out that the problem is that the caps lock button is reversed somehow; when it is lit, then everything is lower case. If I hit it to take off the light, then everything is upper case. I'm sure there must be a way to solve that. I'm going to check on that now.

SOLVED: Annoying icon of num/scroll/caps lock still on screen

Hello everybody!
I can't get rid of the Lenovo icon of num/scroll/caps lock whic appears when you press one of these keys. The problem shows up when I join to my other bigger monitor so the screen resolution gets bigger and the icon gets stucked in the bottom-right corner where was originally the end of previous smaller resolution (as you can see here on the screenshot):
I'm desperate because I've already tried most of the tips which I could find on google. Like modifying the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General\KeyIndication, disabling BTTray.exe etc.
I have Lenovo Ideapad B560. I would rly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!
Edit: Problem solved. It wasn't any Lenovo utility but Genius Keyboard. So I have just unistalled the ioCenter software and icon finally disappeared.

Cap lock blinking and wirless on/off orange light solid. things that i already did -Hard Reset unplug a/c and remove battery hold the power button for 30 sec-Hard Reset with removing cmos battery-replaced rams with places and tried new ram-cleaned fan out-applied thermo cream to cpu-and ofourse checked that my warraty status: EXPIRED i am a technician with 5 years experience in hardware and software repair. Hp Probook 4510s caps lock blinking no screen display

I rebooted my laptop and all the lights come on but network light ends to turn orange and caps lock blinking.

Well, my RAM will arrive tomorrow, we'll see if it works or not. Surprisingly, the laptop charges like it should, everything is fine except the 3 blinks.
I hope the new RAM will solve the problem.

Remap Caps Lock as gnu screen escape key

anyone know how to do this?
currently ive got Caps Lock remapped to some keycode in /usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB
i want to use it as the escape key for screen.
adding it to .screenrc doesnt work.
i was thinking that a macro or something that can just send C-a to screen when i push caps lock might work...?
anyone have any thoughts?

Look into loadkeys from the kbd package. I use it to exchange Escape/Caps_Lock outside of X.

Caps lock with shift key annoying symbol on desktop

just started getting on my upper right corner of desktop a cap lock symbol , an upward pointing fat arrow. it is annoying.
also got some non-response from my caps lock key. i accidently hit shift key on the right, and it all cleared up.
what's going on?

For the record, here's my solution:
This creates a custom key symbol to swap Caps and Shift:
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/custom
partial modifier_keys
xkb_symbols "swapcaps" {
replace key <CAPS> { [ Shift_L ] };
replace key <LFSH> { [ Caps_Lock ] };
This script prints a description of the keymap, adds the symbol to swap the two keys from that other file to the right line, and writes the new description to a temporary file... then compiles it!

I just installed RAM into my 2007 Mid iMac. I went to turn it on and the fan goes on and such. The screen isn't lighting up and (Caps lock) the keyboard isn't working. It's plugged in too.

Installed two 2GB RAM cards to my Mac. Plugged it in, turned it on. You can hear it running. My keyboard isn't lighting up (Caps Lock) and the screen is black.

Assuming the RAM is to the exact spec required, try re-seating the RAM. When you think it is fully seated give it an extra shove with both thumbs - it only needs to be a fraction out for it not to work. If that fails to solve the problem, put the old RAM back in and test. If it works that narrows it down to the new RAM being the problem.

The bottom bar, which shows the URL, the "lock" on secured sites, etc, is NOT THERE on firefox but is on other browsers. What can I do?

In Firefox 4 and later you no longer have the Status bar that showed the padlock in previous Firefox versions.<br />
The padlock only shows that there is a secure connection and doesn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server.<br />
So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL.
The functionality of the padlock has been replaced by the [[Site Identity Button]] on the left end of the location bar.

DV7 keeps blinks 4 times in Caps Lock, even after motherboard swap

OK guys, I really need a good advice here, because I am going nuts on this case.
I have a Pavilion DV7 in which the motherboard died (Caps Lock keeps blinking infinitely when power on). I then replaced the motherboard with a new one, but the new motherboard then blinks 4 times when powering on (after CPU cooler stops). According to HP that means "graphics failure". Then I got the new motherboard replaced (under warranty) with another new one. This second new motherboard also blinks 4 times when powering on. This can't be right, because what is the odds for receiving two motherboards with similar defects. None of the motherboards work with external monitor (VGA) neither.
Now I wonder if a defective LCD or LCD inverter could cause this 4 times blink?

Well the promise is that they will fix it for a year. HP did not make the hard drives so you cannot really blame them on that although the motherboard is their issue. I would say keep rolling with it until the warranty is out. If you have another issue ask to escalate to a supervisor, but HP hews pretty close to the terms of the warranty. A few states have non-auto lemon laws and you might do a bit of a google search to see just what your rights may be in the place you live.

T440s: No on screen display of caps lock, volume, screen brightness, etc.

Hello all-
I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.
EDIT: Just fixed my own problem. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.

As per your query we understood that you were facing issue with On Screen Display earlier on ThinkPad T440s.
And we glad to hear that the issue has been resolved after installing Hot key feature application.
I also suggest you to update Lenovo power management application, if the OS is Windows 7, please update Lenovo Power Manager application.

Unable to know about the caps lock key in ubuntu

hi, i have thinkpad edge 14 and have installed ubuntu 10.10 on it ,but can't get the display property which shows whether the Caps lock key is on or off. Is there such feature ?thanks

Caps Lock broken in X11 - need 4 presses to return to normal

In X11 on MacOS 10.4.6 (on PPC), if you press Caps Lock, the keyboard light comes on and you get all caps when you type.
However, if you press the Caps Lock again, though the light goes out, you are still typing all caps. It takes 2 more presses of Caps Lock to get back to "normal". Note that this only seems to happen in X11.app (e.g., in xterm or OpenOffice).
In summary (cribbing from another user reporting this on the OpenOffice list):
Caps Lock pushed 1st time --> Caps Lock light on, everything typed is uppercase.
Caps Lock pushed 2nd time --> light off, everything typed in X11 keeps being uppercase (but not in other apps).
Caps Lock pushed 3rd time --> light on again, everthing uppercase.
Caps lock pushed 4th time --> light off, finally everything lowercase (normal behavior).

   I can't reproduce the problem but I'm not using the Quartz window manager. Maybe it's a bug in the quartz window manager. What window managers are you guys using?

Lenovo T60 Caps Lock and Num Lock

hi my lenovo t60 1953d9u capslock and numlock wont show up on the
OSD.
it shows up on my dad's t61 7665d61
and my uncles thinkpad edge AMD on the edge it shows a graphical capslock and on the t61 it says capslockn/capslock ff

It shows up on my T61 - which has physical indicators on the screen bevel - there's a small text-block coming up over the clock in the lower right corner, saying "Caps Lock on/off" and "Num Lock on/off" and "Scroll Lock on/off"
So the physical indicators got nothing to do with it.

I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. I don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key. Due to a brain injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She also uses a text to speech app to verbalize all of her needs since her speech isn't intelligible any longer either. And her vision was significantly affected also, so the keyboard has to be mounted about 6 inches from her face. So to reach across the keyboard with her left hand to the right side delete and enter button is physically difficult and causes typing errors, which cause people to not understand what shes trying to say.
The best keyboard so far is the Zagg folio mini. I just had to make stickers to enlarge the letters on the key buttons.
Does anyone know how I can reprogram these two keys? Or where I can buy a wireless mini keyboard for Ipad made for lefthanders with these two functions on the left side. I have searched for days and days. It's sooooo important to me that she be able to contribute her voice again. Imagine if you got in a car accident and couldn't speak clearly any longer, but understood everything still. Thanks for any help and suggestions you all take the time to share with me. I really appreciate the kindness of strangers to help me help my daughter.
