T510i eSATA/USB3.0 combo port: eSATA cable doesn't fit

Hello,
my T510i has a eSATA/USB3 combo port. I assume that an eSATA plug should fit in there. But the eSATA cable I bought doesn't fit. (It fits into my external hard drives eSATA port, though.)
Can you help me with this, please?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Ben

  • Compaq Presario CQ61-424SA Laptop - eSATA/USB combo port does not allow eSATA connection

    Hi,
I recently purchased an external HDD with eSATA connection for use with my Compaq Presario CQ61-424SA laptop.
The specification on the laptop states it has a eSATA/USB combo port however there doesn't appear to be one. On closer inspection there is 2 USB ports on the right hand side of the laptop (which work fine with USB devices) and one on the left which is slightly wider than the other 2 (which also works fine with USB devices). However when trying to connect an eSATA cable to the port it does not fit and on closer inspection it does not look like the conventional eSATA/USB combo ports.
Does anyone know if this laptop was spec'd incorrectly or does indeed have an eSATA/USB combo port.
The cable I'm using was supplied with the external HDD I brought with connections as shown in this link.. http://www.comesource.com/storeweb/images/cable%20esata%20to%20esata.jpg
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I am having the same problem with the "e-sata/usb shared port" , which does not look like a normal e-sata port, and the e-sata connector won't fit in it.
    Can anybody help us?

  • ESATA/USB-Combo-Port on T520 connect to external Harddrive case

    Hello.
I have a eSATA/USB-Combo-Port on a T520. I think there are cables to connect a 2,5" Harddisk direct to the Port with only one cable for eSATA and Power.
I am looking for an external case for a 2,5" Harddisk that have a USB-Port (to connect to other Computers) AND a Port for my eSATA/USB-Combo-Port.
Does anyone know where to buy a suitable Case?
I Want to connect the Disk to my T520 using the eSATA speed (with one cable) with the option to connect it to other computers who only have USB 2.0.
    Thank you very much.
    Jens

    Hi Jens,
I haven't thought to look for one of those before.  Is this the kind of thing you're after?

I think eSATAp is the key here, if I understand your question.
[edit] the 1st link is an eSATAp only cable, so it doesn't help with your "other computer" connections.

  • R700-S1330 Esata/USB combo port

Does anyone knows if Esata/USB combo port come with 5V power for both Esata and USB or just USB only?  Somehow I connected power over esata cable (Esatap) to my 2.5" SSD without 2.5" enclosure and can be detect.  But when I plug the cable to my bodie's Lenovo Y560 Esata/USB combo port, he seems able to get a detection.
Anybody has any idea or had same problem before?

Can we replace the ODD with an SSD in R700-S1331? I'd appreciate some detailed instructions on how to remove the ODD and install an SSD in its place. Thank you.

  • ESATA/USB combo port on T410?

It's listed in the specs as a eSATA/USB combo port.
I've looked at the port and I just don't see how a USB connector can fit in there.
So what does this mean exactly?

    Thanks.

  • PCIE power cable doesn't fit!

I didn't get a convertor with my MSI6800GT, as it was a demo sample, but my PSU supports 6 pin output, I did however get a cable thrown into the box at a last minute, which doesn't produce enough power.
    Cable 1:
Normal ATI X800 pcie power cable, only fills two of the 6 pins in the 6 pin output, so doesn't produce enough power.
    PSU 6pin cable:
doesn't fit!  The pin right under the attachment thing is square, on the other cable (which fits but doesn't have enough power) that's rounded and that fits fine.

    neuron,
How about listing your specs and post some pix of the hardware in question.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • Esata/usb combo port

    HP Compaq Presario CQ61
Does the combo port function as a standalone esata as well as a Usb port.
I want to use the esata with my Hard Disk Docking Station but it appears not to work.
It does work using the Usb option from the combo Usb part.

Enclosures are all over the place. That particular type of cable though is not. Though if you want it you may try emailing monoprice.com. If they can source it and feel it is worth selling they will get it in. They have done this in the past for me.
    http://sewelldirect.com/Koutech5V12VPowerOvereSATAcablewithSATAHDDAdapter_specs.asp?source=froogle&u...
That being said, many of the descriptions i Have seen indicate this type of port actually uses Power Over eSATA and if that is the case then you can use the above adapter in a similar way.

  • Cable doesn't fit into back USB ports

My front USB port isn't working...everytime I plug a cable into it I get a message that reads "Power Surge on Hub Port" and it won't connect. My ports in the back are functioning, but I cannot connect my iPOd into them because the cord doesn't fit. Is there something I can buy (like a mini extension cord) that will connect them?
Please help I am so frustrated. thanks!

thanks so much for your help...
I'm using a Dell Computer (it has Optiplex GX270 written on it) with Windows XP. If you need more info just tell me where to find it.
Even when I plug in a USB cable (one that isn't connected to a device), the message still appears. The iPod connector does fit in the front, but not the back ones. I know the back ones work because I plugged a camera into one in the back and it worked, (it didn't in the front).
I would just use the back ports for my iPod too but the cable is a little different and won't work. I think there is excessive plastic on the connector?

  • Hdmi cable doesn't fit, upgraded from old 21 imac...5yrs old to new 27 imac..the hdmi plug doesn't fit. any suggestions?

i used to have a hdmi input on my older 21 inch mac that displayed my imac on the lcd tv... the plug from the old imac won't fit into my new 27 inch imac.. any suggestions? also my firewire external hard drive plug doesn't fit into any of the inputs... yikes! Thanks for any help!

Not sure what adapter cable you have but if your new machine is a mid 2011 iMac you need this cable. Not a replica of the cable you need the adapter cable Apple sells:

  • External HD Firewire Cable Doesn't Fit?

Just got a new (well, refurbished) 24" iMac this week to replace my Powerbook G4. I had a Lacie 250GB external HD connected to my powerbook by 6-pin firewire cable, and planned to use this HD with my iMac as well. However, the cable won't fit in my iMac... it's the right shape, but won't go all the way into the port. If I reverse the cable (i.e. try the end usually in the HD), it will fit in the iMac, but not the hard drive. What's the difference between my Powerbook's port and that on the iMac? Has something changed? Do I need a new cable? Please help!

Ok, get this... in order to figure out what was different about the two ends of the 6-pin cable (which is supposed to be symmetrical), I looked directly into each end and saw that one looked "deeper". It appeared the gap between the pins went back farther in the end that easily connected with the HD and the iMac, while the other end had a plastic part between the pins... curious as I am at 12:30AM, I got a pushpin and was able to pry this plastic piece out (it fit perfectly around the contours of the pins, so I'm assuming it was supposed to be there or was a manufacturing element that should have been removed in assembly). Anyway, with this removed it works fine. Doubt anyone else will ever run into this same thing, but if so, hope this post helps.

  • IPhone 3G stock and first gen charging cable doesn't fit cleanly.

Has anyone else noticed that the charging cord that came from apple doesn't fit cleanly into their iPhone 3G? Mine fits crooked. It still charges and everything but it just doesn't fit right. This is true for the cord that came with the phone and the old cord from my own phone.

It should fit flush and straight. I use multiple cables (the one that came with the iPhone, a BT Travel Cable, an old Griffin cable in the car (the one with the pinch-to-release clasp) - they all fit flush and straight in the iPhone 3G.
You might want to have yours checked out at an Apple Store.

  • Dented ipod, USB cable doesn't fit :S

HELP! I dropped my ipod and the bottom has a dent in it and the USB cable won't fit in, will cost money to have it fixed at the apple store? Or will I have to get a new back??? please reply thanks.

If the store can "bend" the iPod case back, they will only exchange the iPod for refurbished one. The price will be:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing

  • HDMI Cable Doesn't Fit

I have been wrestling with my Apple TV and the HDMI cable now for about 3 hours and I can't get the HDMI Cable to insert all the way into the port on the Apple TV.
Am I doing something wrong? I feel kinda dumb right now because I can't figure this out!

I had the same problem when I purchased an Apple TV from Amazon. There is definitely a batch of defective ones manufactured. Return your unit to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. I recommend purchasing direct through Apple, which is what I did and the new Apple TV HDMI fit in fine. I'm still learning how to use it but so far it work great. No complaints.

  • IPad 3 USB cable doesn't fit flush in back...normal?

I notice when I plug the USB cord into my new iPad 3, it's flush in the front but not in the back. In the back, you can see part of the metal sticking out. Is this normal?
Hard to believe Apple would not create a better-fitting cord for the iPad's sloped design...so I figured I'd ask. Worried I might harm my iPad with a defective cord.

No, it is perfectly fine.  The iPad 2 is the same way, along with almost all the iPod Touchs, and the first 3 iPhones if I remember correctly.  The reason is so that you can have one cable for the iPad, iPhone, and iPods.  Trust me, if you use the cable from your iPad box, it will look the exact same.  Nothing to worry about.

  • W510 eSATA/USB2.0 combo port does not respond after waking up from sleep mode

Has anyone tried to connect external DVD/CD player or burner to the eSATA/USB combo port and experienced very slow system performance after waking up from sleep mode?  It might takes minutes to launch an application program that usually takes just few seconds.  My W510 can not even restart.  It will just stop at the Thinkpad logo if I tried to restart after waking up from sleep.
The funny thing is if I moved the external DVD/CD player to the USB2.0 port in the back, everything went back to normal.  I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that the combo port has something to do with eSATA.
    Thanks

It seems that this problem is unique to my system. I am hoping that one of the Mac Guru's will have at least a pointer in the right direction.
    Thanks.
