T520 DisplayPort -- HDMI cable recommendation needed
I just purchased a T520 with discrete graphics (nVidia NVS-4200M) and would like to use my HDTV as an external monitor at its native resolution (1920 x 1080). The DisplayPort --> HDMI cable I plan to use should carry both graphics and audio.
Since I've read about other issues with similar cables/adaptors not carrying both graphics and audio when used with the previous nVidia NVS-3100M card, I am writing to request a specific recommendation for an Display Port ---> HDMI cable (not adaptor) with my particular configuration.

I connected a mini displayport/HDMI cable and a audio Y cable (Dynex 3.5mm RCA) from my MacBook Pro to my Vizio TV and I can't get any sound through the TV; however, I do get a picture. Called Vizio and, of course, they say there are no audio settings that need to be changed on the TV. TV is not one of the options when I follow those directions. My only option is "Internal Speakers" and my Airport Express. I think those directions work for you because you have a later model Mac... but thank you for your help. :-) -
No audio with HDMI cable connect - need optical cable?
I have just connected my AppleTV 2 with my Pioneer ELITE 910 HD Plasma TV system. I have a hard wire ether net connected. I have a great picture coming out of the HDMI connection from AppleTV plugged into my ELITE 910 HDMI Media Receiver. But I am not hearing audio. I have gone through the 'settings' menu on the AppleTV screen and have every setting correct (I believe) It might appear that I may have to purchase an Optical Digital Audio Cable that would input into my Pioneer ELITE VSX-54TX receiver (that does have an Optical Digital Input that has not been used.)
Am I on the right track? I was hoping the video AND audio would travel through the HDMI connection. I don't want to spend money on the cable if I don't need it.Re: No audio with HDMI cable connect - need optical cable?
Yes, audio and video should go via HDMI.
Do other peripherals work ok with the pioneer over HDMI.
My LG BlueRay player works fine. My TIVO works fine -- good audio and video
AppleTV is a bit odd with audio at times.
Does the pioneer media box handle doilby digital and linear PCM?
I don't know what "linear PCM" is. All the specs on this 2004 system are here:

If you have Dolby Digital set to Auto I'd expect you to get some audio - if set to On and media box can't decode DD then you may get no sound.
Try cycling those settings as well as the one for audoo bit depth.

In the beamer-manual stands: "Required is a cable, wich is compatible for the HDMI 1.080p signal (RP-CDHG100: optional)".

Firstly apologies if this question has been previously answered. However I have been trawlling the internet for ages trying to find out the correct cables to set up a macbook to an HD tv. All I want to do is connect two devices but everything I read seems to be about macbook pro 2009 onwards - what about those of us you have older macs?
Sometime ago I was given as a present an iwires mini display to hdmi cable set. On the box it said suitable for Macbook pre 2010. My Macbook is a 13" duo core 2006 . Anyway the cable didn't fit and because the package had been opened couldn't get a refund.
Please can anyone in simple terms tell me which HDMI cables I need to connect to the tv so that I get both audio and video.

The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

You'll also need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.
If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual though to see if it might have audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports. -
Which sort of HDMI cableis recommended for connecting Apple TV to aTelevision? Does it need to be a normal HDMI cable? or one which supports Ethernet capabilities?
no need to go for an expensive HDMI cable as Varjak Paw rightly suggests.
Pretty much all of them come with 1.4 standard these days.
The difference in price is made by additional shielding and material used for the wire - hardly ever needed at home installations - unless you get interference from other devices.
on the other note.
one HDMI in your TV is obviously not ideal as well as using HDMI splitter or hub - but it should work.
Also I know cases that some LG TV models do not work with Apple TV - which was confirmed by LG technical support.
Those are rare cases and i do not want to worry you at this stage. -
I have just tried to connect my Mac book pro to an LG Plasma TV via an iWires Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable. All I get on my TV is the Mac wallpaper and nothing else. I am missing something really silly, could anyone help please.
Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire. -
2009 24-inch iMac 3.06GHz (EMC no. 2267). I don't get any audio when connecting my Sony HD TV to my iMac via mini DisplayPort. Is there a fix or hardware upgrade? I'm using a Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable w/ audio support.
You can connect the audio from your iMac to your TV using a mini jack (like headphones plug) to rca (regular red and white audio connectors used on every TV,DVD, etc) cable.
On your TV, you need to be able to set the audio for the HDMI input you will use to "analog" and connect the rca end of the cable to the analog inputs on your TV. -

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.

Using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable
Using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable from a 2010 MacBook Air is playing up, making it practically unusable. Essentially what happens is that when connecting a television set using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable the picture is perfect but no longer than 30 seconds at a time before the picture 'goes to sleep'. Is there a setting I need to change? There must be a setting that I can change which I haven't worked out yet. Thanks in advance for your help

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

What HDMI cable do I need for my MacBook (2009) to my SONY HDTV? I thought the HDMI cable from my Apple TV would work, but it doesn't.

My Macbook doesn't have an HDMI port, so I bought a converter. So I now I have my HDMI connected to my Mac and my TV. The problem is, I can't figure out how to make my computer screen show up on my TV. Do I need to download different software or update something? Or is it as easy as changing a setting?
When I go to my display settings, my computer screen shows up as an option, but my TV does not. I don't think my computer is reading it is connected. Please help me.

I was wondering this, because I want to hook up my 2011 MacBook Pro to a external monitor (TV) using an hdmi cable. This would be heplful before I buy a mini displayport to hdmi adapter, and then maybe find out that the mini displayport might not transfer audio, only video.

I've been a Mac since 2008, so I know my way around the system pretty well. This issue, however, has me stumped. I had an iMac until now and only now am I experiencing some difficulty with my new MacBook Pro. The model I have is the newest 13" Macbook Pro model and I'm trying to connect a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 42" HDTV as a second monitor via the Thunderbolt port.
It worked the first two times and hasn't worked since, after 10-15 attempts with different configurations, turning things on n off, restarting the mac, unplugging the cables, adapters, TV, resetting the P RAM, etc... I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. No matter what I do, the Macbook does not sense the TV as a second monitor anymore.
I took the MacBook Pro to the Apple Store, and their "genius" there had it working fine with a DVI connection to a regular monitor. The Panasonic TV I have has HDMI connections and one VGA connection which does not support HD, but no DVI option. I want an HD connection to mirror or extend my MacBook Pro screen. At the Apple Store, they didn't have a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so he could not try that out for me.
Anyone else have this configuration or another similar one with a Panasonic HDTV?
Ideas? Suggestions? Anything?! Help!!
P.S. I'm running Mountain Lion, if that wasn't already obvious. Everything is up to date in my App Store as well.

I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.

Problem upgrading APPS after installing Yosemite
Since I upgraded my Mac from Mountain Lion to Yosemite I have big problems: System slowing down and comunication with the App Store is corrupted. No upgrading of Apps. I cannot use IPhoto and IMovie. The Systems information: „No upgrading fort this A
