T520 SSD PCIe upgrade questions

I just ordered a T520 i7-2720 from the Lenovo shop.
However for some reason it was not possible to select an internal SSD upgrade during configuration ("No Micro Solid State Drive").
Does this mean i can't add an internal PCIe SSD to this model?
If it is possible where can i order one either from lenovo directly or from any shop (Preferably in Germany)?
Is the SSD upgrade hard to install (I relaced harddisk/ram on Thinkpads before)?
Thanks in advance

They did not offer any micro SSD.
I already own a normal 120GB SDD which i plan to install anyway.
An additional micro SSD would be nice since SSDs are still quite small these days.
Anyways I found a guide about installing a micro SSD on a T520 so i'll just give it a try.

You can't install iOS 6.1.6 on that device and must update it to 7.0.6.

Firewire and USB PCI Upgrade for PowerMac G5
I am looking to add more Firewire 400 and USB 2.0 ports to my Dual 2.7 PowerMac G5. I don't need a combo card (two separate cards is fine). I was wondering which brand card works well with my Mac and OS X. I had a FireWire card that I moved from my Dell to my PowerMac but had a number of problems with a couple connected HDD's and Final Cut Pro. The card which I think was from Belkin was listed as OS X compatible on its packaging.
    Thanks for any guidance.

Check out OWC/Macsales. Usually can't go wrong with Sonnet or an OWC "house branded".

Check out user reports for PCI G5 Compatibility
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com
I've used OWC FW800, Aaxeon PCIe, and a number of Sonnet USB2 (and combo).
Depends on how many USB2 ports, but for FW400 and USB2 combo should do fine. With FW800 I'd go for independent cards.

I have an upgrade question. I received a notification when I connected my computer to the internet that Lightroom 5.7.1 was available it included HDR & Panoramic photo merge. I cant find these. Where do I find them.

well that was a big waste of my time & data allowance then ...

  • Another RAM upgrade question

    Hi everyone,
I know there seems to be lots of RAM upgrade questions here but hey thats what forums are for.
    I'm looking to upgrade my macbook's RAM it's currently got 2GB (2x1GB)
Is it possible to purchase 1x4GB and put that with one of my current 1GB sticks to create a total of 5GB?
I would be interested to know if this is possible or if anyone has tried it.
    Thanks in advance
    Scott

This will work if your MacBook is late '07 or newer.

  • Mini SSD (PCIe mSATA) - 240GB Crucial

Hi, Can I install Mini SSD (PCIe mSATA) - 240GB Crucial with my following unit to avail faster windows system. This is my current unit configuration: HP Envy 15 TS J173CA12GB Ram1TB SSHDi7 4700MQ 2.4GHz=====================mSATA slot available on-board.

Hi Reo, Appreciate the help: But the one mentioned in the manual as: (not available on computer modelsequipped with 16834 MB or 12288MB system memory or with a 256GB or 512 GB SSD) ... is actually not included in these system for the 24GB mini-SSD (with part #720564-001 ... Yet, you can actually and manually add your own mini-SSD using the available slot (mini-SSD slot) like for J173CA mainboard as for my unit. My point here is that; using the available slot (mini-SSD), will it work if I will install a Mini-SSD (PCIe mSATA) - 240GB Crucial  using the said slot and use it as a boot drive or an additional storage drive instead. This is a confirmation I needed prior to buying one of these mini-SSD available on the market. Thank you very much.

  • T400 SSD Upgrade Question Do I need a new drive caddy? My machine shipped with a 1.8" drive.

I'm planning on upgrading to a larger SSD in my T400. It originally shipped with a 1.8" 64GB Samsung SSD and I'm probably going to upgrade it to a 2.5" 7mm Samsung 840 (non-pro) SSD.
I'm not sure if the current caddy in the T400 is going to fit the new SSD, or if I'll need to purchase the 2.5" caddy. If so, does anyone know the FRU # of the caddy I'll need?

  • Aspire R11 (R3-131T): Locating the SSD and other general upgrading questions

So, I managed to find the RAM with no problem, but I can't find the SSD. I'm starting to think it is just integrated into the motherboard, but at the same time, I'm told I can upgrade it.

    Questions:
    1) how do I upgrade the size of the SSD?
    2) there is this small area next to the motherboard. The void is filled with a metal brace. Can a SSD be placed there? And if so, how would I connect it to the motherboard?
    3) can the CPU or GPU be overclocked? I understand that there is no fans, so it would have to be minor overclocking.
    4) is there a way to increase cooling, whether that be via fan or heat sink?
    5) aside from the SSD and RAM, is there anything else that can be upgraded?

  • MSI GT70 0ND-492 - 128GB SSD upgrade question

    Hey everyone,
I'm a proud new owner of a GT70! Now one thing I've noticed on this laptop is that the stock 128GB drive is far too small. After everything is said and done, you have about 43 GB's of space that you ca actually use.
My question is  this, can this MSATA be upgraded and replaced? Also, is there two MSATA slots on this laptop or just one?
    Thanks everyone!!

    Quote from: Torelli88 on 11-February-13, 13:27:31
Perfect compliment? Is that implying that we can have 2 mSATA's hooked into this laptop?
If you have the 'superraid' option, then yes. It really depends though. My laptop came with a single 128 gb mSATA. Others might come with 2 x 64GB mSATA SSD's. So it really depends entirely on the configuration. I think they switched to using mostly 128GB mSATA SSD's, but I could be wrong.

  • Fusion drive upgrade question (7200rpm?+SSD swap)

If I choose the fusion drive upgrade while purchasing a mac mini, will the non SSD drive be upgraded to a 7200rpm drive as well?
Also, I would love to replace the SSD of the fusion drive with a 3rd party 256 SSD that I already own, if that's even possible.
Or should I just stick w/the stock TB drive and install my 256SSD with a data doubler kit from OWC or something like that to save me some $$$?

"If I choose the fusion drive upgrade while purchasing a mac mini, will the non SSD drive be upgraded to a 7200rpm drive as well?"
No. The hard drive component of the Fusion Drive spins at 5400rpm.
"Also, I would love to replace the SSD of the fusion drive with a 3rd party 256 SSD that I already own, if that's even possible."
It's possible. No point in upgrading to the Fusion Drive if you're going to do that, though. Read here:

  • U410 SSD Upgrade Question

Hello, I want to upgrade my mSATA 30gb for a mSATA 120gb. Can I place the KingstonSSDNow mS200 SMS200S3/120G, 120 GB SSD, Solid State Drive in my Lenovo U410 or do I have restrictions on my laptop for the SSD?

    Hi DavidszM,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The only limitation in this upgrade is the physical size which is 9.55mm.
You current SSD is used as Cache drive which will speed up the Read/write
    But
Switching to a higher 120GB will give you the advantage as you can make it as your Primary drive rather than a cache drive.
    You can check this Thread,

  • Upgrade to SSD and BIOS question

I have an x200 model 7454CTO with attached Ultrabay (with optical drive, CD read/wrire, DVD read only).  Original HD is 256gb, running XP pro SP 3.  It has original BIOS version date 6DET33WW(1.10) 10/27/2008 and SMBIOS version 2.4.  I am not having any issues with this laptop.  I want to change to an SSD because other users of SSDs report much better speed.
    My questions are;
    1. Are there any issues with replacing my HD with the Crucial CT1993743 256GB  m4 2.5" SSD?
    2. There appears to be later versions of the BIOS.    Have read somewhere that if the there are no problems best to leave BIOS alone.  I don't know if the new SSD requires a BIOS update. Should I update the BIOS?
    3. Is there anything to do about the SMBIOS?
    Thank you

Thank you very much for your reply.  I will leave the BIOS alone.  My SSD is on it's way.  I found it a bit interesting that the Crucial m4 SSD had good user reviews whereas the v4 had bad ones.  Crucial originally recommended the v4 but I selected the m4 based on the reviews rather than any in-depth search.  Both show up as compatible on the Crucial site.  Hope the reviews are accurate.
Re SMBIOS.  This was an item in the System Information just below the BIOS.  I asked about this just in case it had any relevance.
Re Win 7.  I have a relatively new smart phone running, I guess, the mobile version of Win 7.  I think that this will give a bit of the touch-and-feel of Win 8 so that I may have a better understanding of how Win 8 will work for me.  I am so used to XP that I am somewhat (actually very) reluctant to change.  My senior age doesn't help.
    Thanks again.

  • Envy 6t-1000 SSD upgrade question

I have upgraded my Envy 6t-1000 with a Sansdisk SSD drive.  Everything seems to be going well.
The 32GB HD acceleration cache is still being recognized; does this slow things down?

Also the fan is still coming on intermittently, should I disconnect the fan?

  • P-700 SSD upgrade question

I have a p-700 running windows 7-64 off of the m.2 ssd in the flex card adapter as he boot drive. There is only a single card in the 2 slot adapter. Since I am new to SSDs, can you add another 256 to make a 512 total? Wil the computer recognize this as a larger drive, or do I have to do something else to make my 256 boot drive larger? Thanks

The SSD in your M.2 FLEX adapter is not a normal SATA SSD...it's a PCIe SSD (as opposed to the traditional SATA SSD).  Because PCIe SSDs are designed to hook directly to the PCIe lanes running off the CPU(s), there is no controller/HBA present to manage the drives.
So the simple answer is yes, you can certainly add another PCIe M.2 SSD drive to your current FLEX adapter.  You cannot, however, "combine" (i.e. RAID) those drives together in any way to make a single bigger partition.  But you could certainly see the 2nd PCIe M.2 SSD as a second drive without issues.
Just as a FYI, the only current way to RAID PCIe drives together is using a pure software based RAID solution.  Windows has this capability built in to win7/win8.  However, I believe the OS is not going to allow you to create a SW based RAID with the boot drive being a member drive in the array.

  • Upgrade question for laptop to run PPro CS6/CC

    All,
I've spent the last several days reading, researching and generally getting up to speed on what my options are re hardware moving forward, and though I've been a lurker/user of these forums (and others) for years, this is my first time engaging directly now that I feel I know a bit more. I must also say how incredible a resource the regular users like Harm Millard have been to self-taught but enthusiastic newbies like me - thank you!
I've been a longtime self-taught, relatively light but still barely pro Premiere Pro user for the past ten years. For the past couple of years, I've been barely getting by using CS4 on my once-top-of-the-line Dell Precision M6500 laptop running Win7 Pro 32-bit. The M6500 is by far my favorite PC I've ever owned and is still rocking, even with older specs (listed below), but it is time to grow up, bite the bullet and (hopefully) upgrade this machine so that I can take advantage of CS6/CC and do a bit more heavy lifting (basic color correction, light After Effects, etc).
I currently shoot on a Sony AX2000 in AVCHD, but am starting to do more work on my Canon t3i and am close to moving up to a Canon 5D mk3, so will be using more HD MOV files in the near future, possibly alongside the old AVCHD footage. Most of my exports are for HD web uploads, but also occasionally export to DVD. I do not anticipate stepping up to Red footage or the like in the near or mid future.
My current laptop specs are as follows:
    Win7 32-bit
    4GB RAM
    Intel i7 quad core M620 (2.67GHz)
    500GB 7200rpm HDD
    Nvidia Quadro FX 2800M
I've already ordered a RAM upgrade to get me to 16GB, have Win7 64-bit ready to install, and just bought 2 x 750GB 7200rpm HDD (Western Digital). Instead of investing in an all new machine (laptop or desktop), and considering the amazing stability and longevity (so far) of the M6500, I'd like to try and see if I can get this machine to a place where I can take advantage of CS6/CC and have it run stably and somewhat fast. I realize it's not the best option, and that getting an all-new tricked out desktop is the preferred option, but for budget reasons, that's not possible right now.
    Here's my plan:
Upgrade so that system will be:
    Win7 64bit
    16 GB RAM
    2 x 750GB 7200rpm HDDs (internal)
rest of the system listed above would remain the same as above - namely CPU and graphics card
The machine can also support a mSATA mini SSD (up to 256GB), but I haven't splurged for that yet. I'm  trying to figure out whether to use the two new HDDs in RAID 0 and have the OS, project files, cache, source footage and export files all on those two RAIDed drives, or whether it would make a truly huge difference to add another internal SSD as the boot/OS/Program Files drive and leave the RAID 0 configuration to handle all video and project files. I've read enough to assume that adding the SSD is the preferred option, but it's pricey, and what I'm trying to determine is whether or not it's really worth the cost vs a straight 2-HDD RAID 0 configuration.
I've read a lot about the dangers of RAID 0, but am not too concerned about failures since I use an online backup system (Sugarsync) for all my document files (this machine doubles as my main work PC) and I regularly back up all source and exported video files.
On a separate note, I realize that my graphics card is not listed among the supported cards for CS6/CC - is that going to cause stability and/or significant performance issues, or will it work since I won't be doing 4k/Red files? Is the CUDA hack an option for me? I have the option of upgrading the card to a supported card (Nividia M5000), but it's hugely pricey (close to $2k) and unless it will make the machine an absolute stud for years to come, it's not worth it.
So in short (yeah right ), here are my questions:
Does my proposed new system have the juice to handle what I want to do?
Which HDD setup is preferred, and by what degree (do I absolutely have to get the SSD to make this work?):
    2 x 750GB 7200rpm HDDs in RAID 0 for the entire machine
1 x SSD (what size is minimum recommended?) as boot/OS plus 2x750GB HDDs in RAID 0
Will my existing Quadro 2800M graphics card make the other RAM/HDD upgrades a waste of money?
Is my existing CPU powerful enough to warrant these other upgrades?
Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any help you guys can provide!
    Van

    Van,
Tough love - I'm going to give you my honest opinion here, but it does make me feel bad since you seem to have already ordered parts before you posted.
    1. In a word no. Your processor is dual core. You really want at least quad core + hyperthreading for the media that you will be pushing around. The Quadro 2800M only has 96 CUDA cores and DDR3 (slow) memory. BTW, task manager shows 4 "cores" when you have a dual-core + hyperthreading.
    2. I'd choose 2. - much nicer - worth the cost
    3. yes
    4. no
So what to do if you cut bait on your current plan and get a new laptop. Check out recent (< 6 mths old) threads here for lots of discussion at various price points. Gamers laptops and Sager/Clevo models definitely offer the best bang for the buck for laptops to run Premiere, mostly due to the GTX video line trouncing the Quadro line for performance for the price. I loved the Dell M6500 in its time. If you want to replace it with something current day the M6700 is good, but I like what HP is doing for the 17" workstation class even better in 2013. If you can buy a few months, I suspect the new smaller die size 22nm Intel cpus will be really help for laptop performance (desktops have just about all the cpu cooling capacity required, but in laptops cooling through tiny tiny coolers and tiny, tiny, quiet fans is way limited - so, the new lower wattage, cooler 22nm cpus should be much larger boost for laptop users than workstations).
I suspect that I would really enjoy editing on a well thought out $1500 Asus, even better on a $2200 Sager, and would have similar performance with the support of HP or Dell at closer to a $3000 price point for the media you mention above. ADK sells Sager/Clevo laptops and has much better support for video (and audio) editors than HP or Dell ever dreamed to provide; prices would be a bit more than www Sager dealers but ADK is a no-brainer if you want "real" support and a machine that is tweaked for Adobe.
    Regards,
    Jim
