This is from my invoice, is there a way to get system info off my notebook that I can copy/paste? (unlike Win system info)
My harddrive has been full for a while and I'm looking to get a 1 tb drive and possibly SSD  I'm also continually running out of memory as I have a gazillion browsers, tabs and apps open.
Just looked on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/HGST-Travelstar-2-5-Inch-7200RPM-Mobile/dp/B0097LG9U8/
I read about adding SSD and should mention that my DVD player doesn't work anymore, so maybe I can put something else in it.   I also don't use wireless G3 etc, just regular wireless DSL.
Greatly appreciate suggestions, thanks!

If you don't need a WWAN card I would put a mSata SSD and install the OS and programs there. Then replace your 500GB with a 1TB drive.
Another option would be to replace the HDD with a standard 2.5" SSD, remove the optical drive, replace it with a HDD caddy and put a 1TB HDD there
OR... You put the mSata SDD in the WWAN slot, replace your 500GB with a 1TB drive AND add another 1TB with the caddy instead of the optical drive
Plenty of options with a T520, it's a great ThinkPad

    Any ideas?

OWC is a reputable supplier of hard drives and RAM upgrades to the Mac community.
Go to their site, lookup your model MacBook Pro and see what upgrades are available.
The 1tb WD Scorpio Blue is a 5400rpm drive and slower than the crop of 7200rpm drives.

  • 13" MacBook Pro (mid 2009) hard drive and memory upgrade

So I'm looking to upgrade my hard drive and memory for my 13" MacBook Pro. I'm still wondering just how easy it will be to recover my data, and put it back onto my new drive. I currently have everything backed up to an External drive using Time Machine. If I back it up, and then do the replacement, is it really as simple as it sounds to start it up, put in the Mac OS disk and then restore from a Time Machine backup? I have 150 Gb worth of data and would be ticked off if I can't get it back to my MacBook Pro. Any expertise out there? The actual installation looks easy, but it's the loading the new drive that has me concerned. When I install the new drive, is there anything else I need to do to prep it? And how do I do it if there is? Looking at a 500 gb or even 1 Tb Western Digital drive.

I would say get yourself an external enclosure. Put the hard drive that comes out of your MacBook pro into the enclosure. Put in the new hard drive. Boot up from the external hard drive, use disk utility to format the new drive. Use Carbon Copy Cloner to move everything as it is from old hard drive to new internal one. Re-boot to internal drive, you are done.
Carbon Copy Cloner is a freeware get it from download.com

    gj,
Unless it has worked since the upgrading, I believe you should uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Pavillion DV8-1250ea: Upgrading Hard Drive and RAM

    Hi,
I want to upgrade the hard drive and RAM on my Pavillion DV8-1250ea.
I want to know what spec/type of Hard drive and RAM i need to buy.
For the hard drives i'm looking at either:
    Seagate 750GB Momentus 7200RPM SATA-300 16MB 2.5"
    Western Digital 750GB Scorpio Black 2.5" SATA-300 7200RPM 16MB
    Are these compatible?
I would prefer if i could get 1tb but can't find one with 7200RMB. Any recommendations?
For RAM i'm a little more lost. What spec do i need to look for? I believe 8GB is the max my laptop can handle, is this right?
    Thanks

    Hi:
I can't help you with the hard drive questions but here is the link to the specs for your notebook:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02433096&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en...=
I can take up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory.  You MUST be running a 64 bit operating system to benefit from 8 GB of memory.
You will need memory with this specification if you want 8 GB:
    Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
    Package: 204-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR3 PC3-10600
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64 •
I recommend getting Crucial brand memory.
The cheapest place I know of to buy this if you live in the USA or Canada is here:
The link shows they are currently out of stock at the moment however.

  • Upgrading hard drive and OS - time machine suitable?

I've been keeping regular copies of my system using time machine, but am not sure of it's overall capabilities. I am about to replace my internal hard drive (2008 macbook) and upgrade to Snow Leopard. Once this is done can I simply restore my old settings, applications, and files using time machine? Would this also include things such as my .profile file?
Also if anyone has any advice on a good replacement hard drive then that would be super. I have the late 2008 aluminium macbook, and need something bigger than the current 230GB. I'm off to do some research now, but it can't hurt to ask here too.
    Thanks for the help,
    Nick

Yes, the Momentus is a good drive.....You shouldn't have any issues with that one...
I myself purchased a Seagate Momentus 5400RPM hard drive and used it for a few months until I got a nice deal on a 128GB Kingston V200 SSD.....
Now I'm enjoying a quick Macbook Uni with 8GB of RAM and SSD upgrade.  Planning on giving it to my niece since I have a couple of late 2011 Macbook Pros.
    Good luck

  • Upgrading hard drive and Windows

I have a X61s Thinkpad with a 100 GB hard drive that is getting full (about 85GB).  I plan to buy a larger faster hard drive (probably a 7200 RPM 250 GB Western Digital one from New Egg:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136279
First question; Are there any likely problems with upgrading to this hard drive?
Second, I still run XP and have recently purchased Windows 7 to install.  Should I clone existing drive contents to new drive and then change to Windows 7 or install Windows 7 on the existing hard drive and then move everything to the new drive?  Or some other scenario?
Finally, do I need to worry about the fall protection on this drive conflicting with the similar system in the laptop?
I'm fairly computer competent, but like it much better when I don't have to muck around inside the settings too much.
    Thanks,
    nwjhawk

someone else will probablly have to answer as to the compatibility of the new drive. but, as far as installing 7, are you planning an upgrade or do you actually have the os on disc.  if you have it on disc, i would probably install the new drive and load the new os right on it.  that way you would have your old drive with your old os as a backup just in case anything would go wrong.  if you are planning an upgrade then i would clone the old drive to the new drive and do the upgrade on the new drive. active protection and power management should still work the same but there have been a few posts on here concerning buggy drivers.  if your display starts freezing or lagging uninstall active protection first and if it still acts up then do the power management. but it should still work okay.

  • Hard drive and memory upgrade for macbook

What is the maximum hard drive I can install on a 2ghz core duo macbook, I currently also have 2g memory but want to know what the maximum upgrade on that can be as well. Trying to update the internal components and I thought i'd ask you often reliable folk in the community.

Sorry about that--missed the "also" in your first post! We get a lot of folks who don't understand the difference between RAM and hard drive space, and I sometimes make assumptions. Again, my apologies!
Check in System Profiler for your computer's Model Identifier; this can be used to determine the amount of RAM your computer can handle.
You can check the information yourself using crucial.com's memory scanner tool or by using MacTracker: http://mactracker.ca/

  • Hard Drive and Memory Upgrade

I recently got an 8.0GB Memory Kit and a 1.0TB Hard Drive for my Macbook Pro. Is there a way to install both of these without losing my data? Can I transfer my data to the bigger hard drive?

It is indeed extremely simple — so simple that even Apple thinks you can do it without any problem, and provides instructions for doing so right in the little owner's guide that came with your computer. It's a great deal more complicated in the pre-unibody MBPs, and Apple doesn't regard it as a DIY proposition in them.
EDIT: Ah, I see you're running OS X 10.5.3. If that's the case, you can't be using a unibody MacBook Pro (they all require at least 10.5.5), and you may very well not want to change the drive yourself.
    And unless it's a 17" model, a 1TB drive won't fit into it.

It will support up to a 320 GB drive which is the biggest available at the moment. I have the Western Digital 320. The Core Duo MacBook will only support 2 B of RAM..

  • I had to replace my hard drive and memory on my laptop. Couldn't de-authorize because the computer was corrupted but now I have two authorized computers but it's the same laptop. How do I get my old iTunes library back?

Basically I want the library from my old memory drive, which was authorized on my "first" computer. If I de-authorize both computers (even if it's really the same laptop, different hard drive) can I get library from both? How does this work? Help!

The apps that you had will be listed in your purchase history if you login to your account in iTunes on your computer - the list isn't very user friendly though as it's listed by date order and will include all app updates that you've downloaded (so an app will appear multiple times if you've downloaded it's updates). You can re-download apps, though it's a manual process as you need to find them yourself in the app store : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 .
If the apps are in your iTunes library then the restore might work - a backup contains app data/settings, but not the app itself, so without the app available to it the restore can't install the app and therefore it's content.

  • Upgrade hard drive and RAM

What is the maximum size & speed of hard drive that I can put into my new MacBook Pro?
Any problems anticipated with a WD 1TB SATAIII 7200RPM 64MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive?
I also want to upgrade to 16MB RAM. Any problems anticipated with that?
    Thanks!

Ooops. Yes. Sorry for that silly typo. It is 2 TBs. Here's the info on memory:
    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

  • Want to upgrade hard drive and install SL

    Hi
I own a 4 year old Macbook Pro with Leopard (15", A1211, 2.33 Intel Core 2 Duo). I want to upgrade the hard drive. I am planning on just removing the old one, and placing the new hard drive into it. Then buy a Snow Leopard ($29) and install it.
Is that possible? or I need to install Leopard (I own the DVD, the $129, my MBP came with Tiger) and then upgrade to SL?
I also am not sure if my DVD drive of MBP is working. It rejects any CD or DVD inserted into it. So, can I used an external DVD drive (USB connected) for installing the SL?
Do I need to take any other precautions? I have a Time Machine backup of almost everything on my HDD.

You can install Snow Leopard from the $29.95 version.
As for the optical drive not working, I'd get that fixed first. It may be due to the clock battery beginning to age, or dirt or dust in the drive, or damage to the drive. Not all external DVD drives work. The ones from http://www.macsales.com/ do. Bring it in to a service center to make sure the Clock battery isn't beginning to go. That typically happens after 4 years.
Before installing anything new, backup your data at least twice*:

And then follow these steps to upgrade*:

  • Upgraded hard drive and missing files

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my HD (1TB Seagate) to an SSD (Crucial MX 100 512GB) on my mid-2010 C2D 2.4 white unibody macbook. Total disk space used has been around 300GB. I used time machine to backup the drive before switching the drives, and after installing the new drive (Crucial MX100), I am missing many files. Mostly .pdf, and office files. All of my photos and music seem to have transferred fine. I had to re-enter the product keys for office. Is there a way I can connect to the former drive w/ an enclosure and scan for files that are on that drive and not on the new one? I've had the drive installed for about a month, so I don't want to revert back to the last backup if I would lose the files I've created since then.
    Thanks.

You are welcome. See if you can find the files using this program. If you go Finder/View/Show Path Bar, it will show you where it is located.
