T520 won't detect Network card in WDS/WinPE/Ghost image disk

Hello all,
I figured I would just post this so I could save 2 days of someone elses life.
I'm not sure how many other modes have the EFI and UEFI bios's in them but this has caused a lot of problems when trying to capture an image / image the Lenovo T520.  So for anyone else that is having these problems here is how I got around the problem.
The Problem:
While trying to boot up off a Capture image with a CD or PXE boot for our WDS server the laptop would not detect the network card giving no IP address and listing the adapter as a hybrid.  When trying to do a ipconfig /renew it would give an error around the lines of the loopback something or other ....... the adapter could not be contacted or initated.
I instantly thought this was due to the vanila WinPE / Capture image not having the drivers for the Lenovoo T520, so I went to the website downloaded the new drivers and injected them into the WinPE disk(You will want ot use the NDIS Drivers which are included in the package for this).  Following this process it would still not detect or install the NIC.  After many hours of searching it would apear this was due to the EFI/UEFI bios options not going through the proper boot cycle when in a PE enviroment.  The solution was to mess around with the EFI/UEFI switches in the WinPE boot image during the creation proccess as listed below:
ocdimg -m -o -u2 -udfver102 -bootdata:2#p0,e,bc:\winpe_x64\etfsboot.com#pEF,e,bc:\winpe_x64\efisys.bin c:\winpe_x64\ISO c:\winpe_x64\winpeuefi.iso
The link with more details is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947024
Eseentially once the new boot image was complied with the proper EFI / UEFI options enabled it went through the proper boot process detected the NIC and installed the drivers which I previously provided on the disk and we where off to the races imaging the new laptop.
Hopefull this will help some others who are struggling with this or any other model that has this type of bios.
Cheers, and thanks
Please feel free to post any additional comments to help others if you found better ways to get around this
One side note the EFI/UEFI to legacy mode only does nothing for the NIC problem, I have seen some posts where they can help with the hard drive issues when imaging, however as for the nic not loading in PE enviroments this setting in the BIOS did not reslove the problem.

Hi Rusty1234
If I did not remember wrongly, you may present or add drivers (network, hardware) under WDS / Ghost software or copy necessary drivers (e.g. your T520 network card drivers) under it's PXE / boot section.
Happy 2012!

  • 3429 - Won't detect Networking Devices (And can't manually force drivers)

Got an "old" 3429 from a friend who's been using it at their office for a few years - Did a complete re-format and installed Windows 8 on it.
But now it won't detect any of the network hardware (Ethernet OR Wireless) and I can't get it installed manually (not for lack of trying) by using the drivers listed on the driver download page for the computer.
Additionally - Can anyone tell me what kind of RAM limits this machine has? The specifications seem to be for a never revision of the Thinkcentre that claims the machine uses standard size DDR3 sticks, which doesn't correlate at all with mine - It has a single laptop sized RAM slot (SO-DIMM?)

I've double and triple checked everything now - Both adaptors are enabled in the BIOS, the Ethernet port shows yellow light when connected to the network and nothing appears in Device Manager for either adaptor (No matter how many times I tell it to scan for hardware changes - nor are they pre-installed and present in the list. Only the bluetooth connection is running)

  • IMac won't detect SD card

My iMac won't detect any SD card's. It doesn't seem to matter the size (2GB-16GB) or brand, it is just like I haven't inserted one. I have never used one with it before so it isn't from failing to "safetly remove hardware" and I have tried cleaning the slot (with air can)

Have you checked to see if the SD card reader is listed in system profiler? (apple menu, about this mac, more info button) it should be  listed under Hardware, under USB, it would be labeled some thing like "Internal Memory Card Reader".
If the card reader isn't listed:
Have you tried a NVRAM Reset?
Have you tried a SMC Reset?
If the card reader is listed, but your not seeing the inserted cards:
Have you checked to see if the cards are reconised in Disk Utility? (go to the dock, click on finder, go to the menu bar, click on the go menu, chose Utilties, double click on disk utility) Do you see the sd card listed?

  • 10.4.7 won't detect EDVO Card

I purchased a Sprint Merlin S720 Mobile Broadband card. According to Sprint I had to initialize the card in a PC with Win XP then insert the card in my Powerbook.
The card worked fine in the PC, but when I inserted the card in my Powerbook it didn't detect the card. The card lit up and a card icon showed on the top bar next to my Airport icon, but when I click on it it indicates "Unknown Vendor". The only workable option there is to turn off the card.
When I go to "Internet Connect" application, or in Preferences "Network" there is no indication that the card is there. When I to "About this Mac" "More Info" the Hardware PC Card section shows vendor Unknown and the USB section of Hardware shows USB Bus, Novatel Wireless CDMA.
    ????????

The Sprint 5740 card will work without a hack... on my powerbook g4 15", running 10.4.7, I had the same problem you had. Somewhere I read to use "#777" for the phone number in Network setup, use the actual card phone number for Phone Number, and the 6 digit NPA/NXX number from Sprint for the password. Select Sprint PCS Vision for the modem, and it's done. I couldn't believe it, after 4 hours of trying.

  • Z87-g45 won't detect video card

I just got a 87-g45 and the on board graphics work fine with my dvi cable.  I put in my gtx 660 but it won't detect it at all.  I tried putting it in another computer and the card works fine.  I saw another thread with a similar problem: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174991.0
I just flashed the bios to the one linked in the thread, but it didn't help.  Should I plan to get a new motherboard or is there another way to solve this?

    1.  The computer runs fine through the onboard video, I'm using it right now to type this.  Is it possible that the computer runs fine even with a bent pin?  Is it easy to tell if I have a bent pin?
yes it may run fine if a pin that connects to the PCI-E connector is bent! you need to remove the cooler and CPU and look in the underlying socket with a Bright light and a magnifier to see if they are all strait and in line! with each other from a few angles like from above and then at a 45 degree angle to make sure they all look exactly the same!

    3. Does that mean having the motherboard just hanging outside the case?
put the board on a piece of plain cardboard or wood (to prevent shorting) on a table and plug up the power and so on and see if it posts there (most builders do that before they put it in a case or place it on the motherboard box itself)!

  • Airport Extreme - won't detect network!

Hi, I'm new to these parts so please be gentle with me! I've got an airport extreme card fitted to my ibook G4, and I've been using the card happily for about a month now. It's worked fine but last night it suddenly lost the network and however hard I try, it refuses to connect me to my Netgear router. It must be, I think, a problem with my card because everyone else in my house (who is also on a wireless network) has reception. Therefore they won't be too happy with me if I start messing around with the router. I was just wondering if anyone could shed any light onto why its dissappeared and how to get it back. I'm on channel 11 if that helps. I've tried everything I can think of so far and nothing is working!

Okay there might be a wall with some substance like a mirror or metal etc. in/on it that will interfere with your signal.
Try moving to different places in the house and see if it changes.
I have found that either in the air or some portable phone's/devices signal interfere with the signal in some spots.
As likely you know the signal appearance arround the antenna is not round but looks closer to a circle crossed with a star shape and so some areas do have better signal quality with or without walls stuff blocking the signal.
What works is odd ball channels like 3 5-9 is usually good as most devices do select the first/last channel first.
Channels are not locked to 1 specific channel as well as with radio stations if one channel is occupied there has to be a spacing to prevent channels from crossing so channel 1 can use upto the space of channel 3 etc.
Also try to place the wifi transmitter device as high as possible as this does help somehow ?? why I don't know as a blockage is a blockage. Microwave oven etc.
I have found with a linksys 2 antenna that by placing the antenna at an angle say that would look like a "W" with the antenna making up the sides of the W does cover and compensate for weak spots in the transmission.
This latest Airport update of 8 nov 2005 has made more trouble than anything as being 3 inches from the router now only gives 75% signal where previously I could go 900ft and have then only 75% signal.
    Hope this helps.

  • MacBook Pro won't detect network printer Canon MF4150

I have a multifunction printer, Canon MF4150, hooked upto a PC Desktop and I have enabled printer sharing. The printer is detected and works fine on my PC Laptop. However, when I try installing it on my 13" MacBook Pro, the **** thing won't show up. It doesn't show up under the Windows category of Print and Fax so I tried to set it up the way Apple has suggested in their support section. It asks you to go to advance and input the IP address and location of the printer and then select the printer driver. I would post the link but I conveniently can't find it right now. The printer driver is obviously not listed on the list, so I go to the Canon website and download a mac version of the driver and install it. When I check to see if it's on the list now, it says MF4360-MF4390, but not MF4150. I thought I had installed the wrong one but I downloaded and installed it again, and I got the same problem. Anyone have this printer or have a similar problem? Another way to hookup this printer would be much more convenient, is there anyway that the Window tab could detect it? Any help is appreciated!

The warranty must be close to running out. Take it ASAP to the Apple Store or AASP and have it checked.

  • Updated TC Firmware now Xbox 360 won't detect network

Has anyone else installed the new firmware and connect a 360 to the TC Wireless? My Xbox won't even find the network when i scan for networks now! If i create a network on my Mac it finds it fine though.
Anyone experienced this problem or got it to work?

There were other threads where people had the same issue with the WiFi network that TC was hosting. In those threads, they mentioned both Windows and Macs were unable to connect to the network. So, I'm guessing the issue you have with your 360 is the same. FYI, they were able to temporarily resolve the issue by downgrading back to the previous TC firmware.

  • ATV 2 won't detect network created on iMac

    Hi,
I have an ATV 2, which detects the wi-fi network just fine. However, when I create a network on the iMac (which is connected to the internet through wi-fi, not ethernet), the network just doesn't show up in the list of networks. Even when I type it out in the search box it doesn't detect. I am creating a basic network on the iMac (Channel 11, without a password). Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
My guess is (and that's all it is at this stage) is that you might be looking at the wrong side of the process as being the problem. Have you considered this might be network related, most network problems are interference, have you checked and/or tried another wifi channel.
You might also try restarting the Apple TV be removing ALL the cables for a few moments.

  • HELP!!!  iPhone randomly reset and now it won't detect SIM card?

Ok so here's what I was doing when this all happened.
I had called the Linksys support for a new router I just bought that wasn't working right. After waiting about 8 mins I was connected to a gentlmen in India, we worked on my problem for about 10mins or so and then all of sudden my phone just reset, or at least went to the apple logo and just sat there.
then after 30 seconds it started ringing (before it fully restarted) and it was the tech gentlemen call me back. So I slide the thing to answer and the screen froze with the slider on the right but not unlocked but I could see the time and my back ground, just no buttons and I could still hear him and talk to him.
After we fix my problem with the router he hung up, but my phone was still froze and then it started ringing (a friend had tried to call me before it reset while I was on the phone so I assume it was him again). I couldn't answer and it just kept ringing and ringing so I held the wake button and slide the red slider to shut it off.
Left it off for 30 seconds or so then press and held it again to turn it on. Now it says restore need, connect to itunes!
ok, so I did and after wait about 30sec to a minute after connecting it to itunes it comes up with this error:
*"iTunes cannot activate your iPhone because the SIM card is not inserted or a SIM PIN is required. Disconnect your iPhone, make sure the SIM card is inserted correctly and, if you use a SIM PIN, tap Unlock to enter it, and then reconnect your iPhone."*
What the heck?! I've had it randomly reset once before about a month and a half ago and which point I did have to restore, and it did and it worked fine after that.
The SIM card IS in there, and I have no idea what my SIM PIN would be, nor do I see the option for it they speak of! And this happened about 9:30pm, well after any Apple or AT&T stores are closed! I even turned off the phone, took the SIM card out and put it back and it still did the same thing!
What would cause this to randomly just mess-up like this? I loved this phone when I got it but now that this is the 2nd time this has happened and much worse I'm pretty ticked about it. And it's not like I hacked it or unlocked it or whatever that is even called, the only things I've put on my iphone are music, pictures, and programs I all got thru itunes!
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hi Guys,
I'm writing this from the UK. Got an iPhone 3G bought a few weeks ago and activated (no jailbreak or other stuff)it. It worked fine but last night it gave the same error as originally reported in this thread.
Went into the O2 store (this is the provider selling iPhones in the UK) and they told me is the SIM card. Got a new one but still the same...
There is something going on here because I've seen lots of claims with the exact same description. Its almost like there is a bug in the software that gets activated on the 3rd of January.
Will go tomorrow again and ask for a new phone.

  • T400 won't detect WWAN card

    Hello all,
I am a newcomer to this forum and I'm glad to see such support for such great products!
I just got my first ever ThinkPad after some research - the T400.  I bought it equipped with this:
    SBB ERICS.F3507GUSA-WIWANCARD
I noticed immediately that the SIM card was installed in already, so I powered it on, but in the Lenovo Welcome center part, it told me that I do not have any kind of mobile broadband card installed.
    What?
I see the slot for the SIM, and I have a guy on Tech Support telling me it's a PCMCIA card and that I need to pull it out and put it in again!
I've already tried reinstalling the drivers, etc.  Did I just get a defective card?  Has this happened to anyone else?
    Thanks for your help

  • Log and Transfer Refuses to Detect AVCHD Card

    Hello all,
So I'm trying to get some media off of an SDHC card written by a Panasonic AG-HMC150. I take out the card, plug the card into my new Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro vers. 6.0.5, and it mounts to my desktop. I then open Log and Transfer, and nothing gets detected. If I create a drop folder on my desktop and point the path to that, nothing gets detected. So I updated to 6.0.6 and still L&T won't detect the card.
I thought it was the card, so I recreated this on another Mac Pro in the office, with only 6.0.4, and the L&T detected the card instantaneously.
I then took the card home and tried again on my MacBook Pro running 6.0.5 and it detected the card instantly.
So I'm a little amiss. I didn't set up this Mac Pro when it was installed, so I'm wondering if a setting was toggled somewhere that would prevent this Mac from detecting the card, or refusing the format. Anyone have any ideas?
    OS: My MacPro - 10.5.7
    Other MacPro - 10.5.4
    My MacBook Pro - 10.5.7

Turn off wireless, or ethernet networking...or just wait 2-3 min...it will show up. For some reason with networking on, if there are a LOT of shared machines out there, L&T wants to scan all of them to. I think...that is my only explaination, because when I disable networking, L&T works instantly.

  • Computer won't detect audigy

    Greetings all:
I looked for a while in the forum, but did not find this question, so here goes:
I purchased an audigy 2zs platinum 0 months ago and had no problems until a month ago when I had to reformat and reinstall windows (one of my sata raid dri'ves died/fried). The windows install was on a new dri've, so there are no residual drivers from the previous install (to my knowledge - but I have tried to install it a few times now). Now windows xp home will not detect the audigy 2zs at all. It does detect the midi/game port on the card. I have also been able to use the firewire port on the card. It just won't detect the card, and I have had to revert to the onboard sound. It will only recognize the card as a "pci audi device" and not as a "audigy 2zs" like it did when I first bought it.
I like the zs, plus the front i/o bay is handy. Any thoughts on this problem? I have already tried a different pci slot with the same result. Is there a way to force the driver install? Is there a residual driver I am missing? Could the card be fried?
    Here is my setup:
p4(478) 2.8 ghz, asus p4p800 dlx, ati aiw 9800 pro, audigy 2zs platinum, old-fashioned ide ata hd for now.
    Thanks, Christopher

I think you may have misunderstood. If you do it that way and navigate to the windows CD then yes, it will install the windows driver. But i meant the Creative CD. If you install the basic CREATIVE card driver you should then be able to install all the other software. But the basic driver should sound no different than with the software except that the software allows you to EQ it and such.
Your problem as i understand is that windows DOES recognise there is a device there, but doesn't know where the driver is. So you need to manually navigate to the basic driver on the CD and once thats installed use the CD to install the software.
Also, i don't see why you can't just uninstall the unknown device in device manager, then without rebooting install from the creative CD as you normally would. In other words, the reason trying to install from the CD as normal isn't working right now is because of the unknown device in device manager. Some kind of conflict between that and windows knowing what to do with the CD install when you try that. So uninstalling the device first then doing a normal instal may also work.
