T520i 424067G dpclat spikes
Seems like the problem is in wireless AND lan driver because I need to disable them both for latency to be under 1000 us (occasional spikes up to 1100 us). Can someone point to correctly working networking drivers for LAN and WIFI.
I have Intel 82579LM gigabit LAN and Intel WIFI Link 1000 BGN adapters.
I just hope this can be solved because I use laptop for audio poduction and I just can't see dpc latency problems, not for this kind of money I invested. Lenovo, please help.
After lot of surfing I can conclude searching for the solution is pointless. It seems that Microsoft ndis.sys driver is broken, and this is the case on many modern laptops. There are some indications that Windows 7 32bit doesn't suffer from this, as well as Linux. I even want to try OS X... Will post update on this if I come to some conclusion.

I bought it as a ex-display model, so you can imagine it already has some milage from it.
Through the (almost) 2 years i've had it, apart from the odd overheat shutdown, and a 1 charger replacement, it's been no hassle, even with me constantly shutting it and moving it. It seems that all the issues are coming in bulk.
I generally use the laptop for gaming, mostly World of Warcraft, sometimes Minecraft, and lately Starcraft, and Spellforce on BOOTCAMP or virtual machines.
About 2 weeks ago, the laptop started refusing to charge, i couldn't understand if it was the charger (as i only replaced it a few months earlier and the cable was still in perfect condition) or the port itself in the laptop. I took my laptop to an Apple store, found it was the Magsafe on the cable, replaced it on the spot, but the reason why i'm saying this is i'm wondering why it broke so quickly, and if lack of power has anything to do with it.
I've grown a liking to Spellforce so instead of having to restart into the Windows side of my Mac, i just use the Virtualbox Virtual OS i already have set up from when i used to work from home and have to use certain software on windows because Wine just couldn't cut it (and lets face it, Mission Control is awesome, then you go on Windows and everything just seems to cluttered). So i read the default specs for the game on Steam (2GB) so i give Virtualbox 2GB, but this was a MAHOOSIVE mistake, because as soon as i clicked start, it's been a down hill spiral.
The computer immediately started lagging, to the point where the laptop was actually unusable, so i force restarted it by pressing down the power button for 5 seconds and i let it restart. After it booted, everything seemed fine (i expected nothing else) so i decided to only give it 1GB of RAM, and just turn down the settings to the lowest possible (which is something i've had to do with World of Warcraft recently. It used to be able to run on Ultra when i first got the laptop, now it struggles on low and if i have a browser up at the same time). Again, big mistake, it lagged to unusability. So i restart again, but this time it takes 5 minutes to boot, and once booted everything is so slow, so i decide to re-install the OS, so i get my flash drive and spend the next hour moving things over from my user folder because when i would try to move a folder that had 5+ files or something that was 100MB or larger, it would error out saying a certain file couldn't be read or written, and would cancel and remove everything else that was transfering at the time.
So i restart but boot into the recovery option, and do a refresh the OS, and i let it download and install. I was surprised to see when it had all completed that it still had all my files, but it still ran slow, not as slow as before but definitely not as good as before, i would estimate at quatre the performance. So i assume that Virtualbox must have editted some system setting and my Mac thinks i only have 2GBs of RAM and not 4GB, so i search on how to reset the bootloader, and i was tried the alt + cmd + r + p, but after that when it booted, it came to the wallpaper but i was getting these popups that Finder had unexpectedly quit, so i click Okay a few times, they keep coming back up, so i look at the details and it says that the app had failed 500+ times before.
So i put my Snow Leopard disk in, use Disk Utility and use erase on my Mac OS partition, then i re-install Snow Leopard, then i download and install Mountain Lion again, but the snails pace remains. I do alittle more research and someone suggested modifying the partition size by a few gigs or so to re-write it and reset certain variables attached, didn't work, even after a reboot.
So yesterday i just put the Snow Leopard disk in, and i remove both partitons (Mac and Windows) and i make one partition. I install Snow Leopard and then Moutain Lion, and so far it appears that everything it back up to speed... however, i've been keeping a keen eye on Activity Moniter and "top" in Terminal, and my CPU usage and RAM usage are always relatively low. I always seem to have 1GB-2GB RAM free, and my Idle CPU always seems to be above 80%-90% but i'm getting these weird lag spikes. I notice it most when i try installing World of Warcraft again, the download speed averages around 3MB/s (my ISP is Virigin Media and i get 60Mbs/s fibre optic so i know it's not my connection failing) and then the app seems to freeze (stops refreshing the average speed, and then about 5-10 seconds later, it starts refreshing again but it's at 12-50KB/s. This also seems to happen a lot when i use web browsers.
I have noticed something new, literally only about 30 minutes before i started writing this. There is a noise that happens every 2-4 seconds, it's pretty regular, it sounds like a grasshopper, or other chirping bug/insect inside my laptop. It sounds like metal scraping against metal, which is worrying. It's coming from the right hand side of the Magic Track Pad, which is where i believe the Hard Drive is. I've looked online and this seems to be a sign that the harddrive is dying.Yeah, the problem has been solved.
Unfortunately, the solution is buying a new storage device.
So if you're having these issues, i tried almost everything consumer possible, that's free anyway, and the hard drive was just too faulty to work properly. So backup all your stuff whilst you still can.
I bought an SSD for around £80, only 120 gigs of storage, but i have iTunes Match so i don't need to have my films and music downloaded.
If you're very mobile with your laptop, then i suggest getting an SSD. Lugging about a laptop with a storage device with moving parts is very very risky.
As soon as i got a new storage device, everything was back to normal. It was like it was new again.
Anyway, sorry i can't give you a free solution, but it's the only solution i got. -
In 2 separate 2 hour periods, my phone went through 500MB of data each period - pushing me close to my monthly limit on Verizon. I turned off Cellular Data completely, and have been trying to figure out what app is doing it. It seems to be something that happens quite suddenly, as I've noticed that the phone gets really hot. And no, I'm not streaming video, I don't have iTunes match, or any of those obvious issues.
So, I've downloaded Dataman, My Data Manager, and Onavo, but unfortunately, none of them allow you to see which apps are doing the data hogging. My Data Manager does allow me to see data usage on WiFi (the other 2 don't, assuming that all you care about is cellular data)....and it at least confirmed for me what I thought.....After a day of minimal data use, I suddenly had a spike of almost 20GB of data use in 1 hour. Yes, you heard it 20GB!!!! It's as if my entire iTunes music library was being downloaded (and no I don't have iTunes wifi sync enabled, and besides, I had just previously synced via USB, so there was nothing new to sync).
My guess is this is related to this:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/oct/17/iphone-5-iphone
Apple needs to figure this out -- Verizone needs to compensate all of us --
But in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas on how to figure out what apps/services are using the data?GV2,
I'm glad Mrhelper was able to shed some light on this for you! In iPhones, the amount of data you're seeing under each app is for the "Current Period." Just above that list you'll see info about the Current Period and Current Period Roaming. This is just an overall snapshot of total data usage for that period of time. The Current Period does not reset on its own, so it will be counting everything from the last time you reset it through now. You can reset it by scrolling to the bottom and tapping on "Reset Statistics."
So, for example, if you reset your statistics 3 days ago and then there's 1GB used under App Store you'll know that over the last 3 days 1 GB of data has been used for the App Store.

Lag spikes(Assumingly disk spikes) with MSI GT70 2PC
Hello,
I bought a msi gaming laptop a couple of months ago and noticed some weird spikes where my laptop because inactive for 2 seconds. My screen freezes and I am unable to move my mouse.
I am trying to find the solution myself but I think my lack of experience holds me down.
If you guys could help me out I would be very happy!
This is the research I did myself:
Installed Windows Performance Recorder and tried to find out where the problem was but without succes. But I did notice that sometimes my hard disk usage becomes 100% for a couple of seconds.
I don't know if this causes the problems but maybe it helps with solving the problemYou can try these solutions:
1. HDD is occupied by contents index or removing language packs process. We suggest user to check FAQ 740 and FAQ 646 for this two problems.
FAQ:740
When WINDOWS 8 OS is in idle mode, HDD usage often reaches 100%.

FAQ:646

2. When playing some games, game lags might happened due to the hard disk's power saving function. Also the hard disk's sounds might appeared due to the fast read/write tasks from the system. You can follow the instructions and try to turn off the power saving and acoustic management function of your hard drive to avoid game lags and try to decrease hard disk's sound.

Ok so I've been searching this all around, it is a common issue. I have tried many fix's but if anyone has an idea please suggest. If anyone has had this issue and now it's fixed please tell me. It is clearly the wifi hardware or software from MSI. I first thought it was the router or my wifi but tested several different wifi spots and had it on 5 bars. Also it doesn't freeze or spike at all when I use the cable.
So please if ANYONE has had this issue please post here, thank you
Lets get a fix for this once and for allEditors' Choice Award

External monitor damage due to Macbook Pro voltage spike?
I had my Macbook Pro connected to a Panasonic 62" Panasonic LCD TV and the Panasonic suddenly went black and has not come back. I've driven the Panasonic many times with the same Macbook Pro before and there were no problems. My friend says my Macbook Pro must have had a voltage spike that blew out the Panasonic. Is this possible? And if so how do I get it checked out?
Also, there is a smaller external LCD monitor that I've driven with my Macbook Pro that projected fine. But when connected the trackpad on my Macbook Pro became erratic/unresponsive. The same friend who's TV I may have nuked says this problem is also due to my Macbook Pro having voltage spikes...
Anybody know what may be going on here?I think your friend is trying to get you to buy him a new TV. The TV going out and the computer being connected to it were likely coincidental. If Macbook Pros were destroying external monitors as your friend suggests then there would be more reports and outraged customers. Yours is the first post I've seen suggesting that a TV was destroyed because of a Macbook Pro.

Sudden spike in strain measurement
Hi!
I have a PXI 1062Q Chassis, 8108 controller (Windows OS), one PXI 4472 module(Slot 2) & two PXI 4331 modules(Slot 3 & Slot 5). The test scenario involves measurement from strain gauges mounted on a plate which is subject to some impact. But when I try to acquire strain data in the quarter bridge configuration from all the 16 channels at 100 K sampling rate, I find that there is a sudden spike in the data apart from the one observed due to the impact (Please refer attached pics). This spike is seen at exactly the same instant across all the channels. The following are the settings used for strain channel acquisition.
Acquisition Mode :Continuous Samples
Sampling Rate :100K
Samples to Read :10 K
Maximum Limit :1.5m
Minimum Limit : -1.5m
Strain Configuration :Quarter Bridge I
Voltage Excitation Source :Internal
Excitation Voltage :2.5V
Gage Resistance :120
Gage Factor :2
Note: Offset nulling & Shunt calibration are enabled (100K shunt resistor in R3 location)
The application was built using LabVIEW 2011 and DAQmx driver version 9.3.5
Can somebody please tell me what could be the possible reason behind this phenomenon?
Thanks in advance!

Hey Lynn!
It's just a 1 sample spike in the positive & negative direction. Could an electrical transient result in such a small duration spike??

EMC spikes could be of any length....
A good software spike filter is the median filter, here a filter rank of +-3 should do the job...
Looking at your picktures it seems that they appear in a close relation to your trigger ...
Crystal_ball_mode: You wrote impact test.... is there some sort of solenoid/relay/inductive release involved ? Without snubber they can be a source for such spikes....

Hello All,
Many of us T520 owners have had problems with skipping/cracking/distorted audio as a result of DPC Latency Spikes. I have been reading every available thread on the topic and I found a simple solution in a T420 thread that I wanted to share with any T520 users that may have overlooked it.
The Latency Spikes experienced by many users (including myself) were caused by the Ethernet Driver (Intel 82579LM Gigabit Adapter). The current T520 is loaded with Intel driver version 11.12.38.2001. However, if you revert to version 11.12.36.0 the issue disappears. You can download the driver directly from the HP website. (It is no longer available on the Lenovo Support Page)
Thanks again to the original T420 poster and GOOD LUCK!
Moderator Note: Links fixed.Just bought a NEW T520 with nVidia 4200 , i5 , 4GB, 500GB (7K2 rpm)....
Had before Y560p, & resplved problems with that by reversing the bios to an older one, I didn't found it on Lenovo web, but hte guy from Thailand sended it to me on e-mail (he had problems too).
So it was OK but I wanted the best U can buy... & bought T520.... Had a BIG problem on a gig 1st time a used it ...
Music just stopped for a second or two.... big spike in latency monitor (I started it before work)... then I put to OFF WiFi (on the switch - left side). OK for about 45 min, then AGAIN.... I have gone crazy .... bought a double priced laptop & have problems again ??!?! Is that possible ?!?!?
BTW the drivers on my LAN card are : 11.15.16.0
Anyone know the answer for this ? Thanks in advance, while I'm reconsidering (not glad about that cose I love the Lenovo brand) buying the Apple Mac Book Pro... -
Simple Java 3D programs CPU Usage spikes to up to 90 percent!
Hi, everyone. Im completely new to Java 3D and Im toying around with basic program structure right now. My code is based off of that in the first chapter on 3D in Killer Game Programming in Java. I removed most of the scene elements, replacing them with a simple grid, Maya style. (Yes, Im starting off small, but my ambitions are grand I intend on creating a polygonal modeling and animation toolset. After all, the Maya PLE is dead damn you, Autodesk! and I just plain dislike Blender.) I implement a simple OrbitBehavior as a means for the user to navigate the scene. That part was basically copy and paste from Andrew Davisons code. The mystery, then, is why the programs framerate drops below 1 FPS and its CPU Usage spikes to up to 90 percent, according to the Task Manager, when I tumble the scene. Id appreciate anyone taking the time to look at the code and trying to identify the problem area. (Ive undoubtedly missed something totally newbish. -.-) Thank you!
(Also, I had the worst possible time wrestling with the posting process. Is anyone else having trouble editing their posts before submitting them?)

CPU spikes - what's the latest?
I posted a question about this in another thread but haven't heard anything back yet - and am desperate for answers so figured I'd try again!
I've just started having a big problem with CPU spikes, seemingly out of the blue.
After having had no problems (that have affected my workflow at least) since updating to Logic 8 when it first came out, the last 2 songs I've worked on have both started having repeated CPU spikes. In both cases the songs (which have for the previous couple of weeks been running fine as I've worked on them) suddenly seem to reach some kind of critical mass and stop at least 4 or 5 times in the song (with a processor overload) making it impossible to mix. The spikes themselves appear to occur every 10 seconds or so.
Though the songs have previously been fine during sections with many tracks, plugins and instruments running, once this starts happening even the most sparse sections can suddenly no longer play without overloading.
In the past, bouncing any instruments to audio or freezing processor-intensive tracks would clearly lessen the load and allow the song to play without a hiccup, but it seems once this starts happening that any attempts I make to pare the song back barely help at all. Even if, in between spikes, the song is running with about 25% max on the CPU meter, when a spike comes both processors momentarily max out and stop the track.
Strangely, with the latest song, even reverting to previous versions (ie from a few days ago when I was having absolutely no problems of this kind) the computer can suddenly no longer cope with the spikes (which I assume have been happening all along but haven't affected playback before now). Weird but true.
I've tried disabling all audio unit plug ins in AU manager, setting all channel strip inputs to no input, running the song using Core Audio rather than the MOTU 828 and repairing permissions with DiskUtility.
Today I tried a clean install of 10.5.3 and 8.0.2 on a new drive (no 3rd party plugins or ANYTHING apart from Logic and OSX installed) - still with exactly the same result.
I've even tried copying all the audio from the arrange into a brand new song, adding the plugins and routing to busses track by track, all the while keeping an eye on the CPU meter. As soon as I've sent just a couple of tracks to aux channels and added only 3 or 4 instances of Channel EQ and Compressor I notice the spiking begin. It's clear that by the time I've finished the setting up of the song the spikes will be maxing out again.
I realise I'm running an old machine (ie Dual 1G G4) but it has, up until now, been working spot on under the current system (I've been using 10.4.11 and hadn't updated to Leopard until today cos I haven't wanted to upset the delicate equilibrium!)
Thankfully I've found a clunky workaround by copying the song on to my Macbook and running that in my studio - a lifesaver but not satisfactory. (I can see the spikes on the Macbook too but playback isn't affected).
I've been using Logic forever and know this behaviour (and unresponsiveness to all my troubleshooting attempts) isn't normal!
I've seen the threads from a few months back but am wondering is anybody else out there still having similar issues? Or has anyone had them and solved them?
Please help!
Cheers
DuaneThe latest? It's still spikes constantly here. IMHO, I think there is an issue with-in LP 8 itself with symetric multi-tasking to more than one core... evenly distributing the load between cores. It's hit or miss with me & completely un-predictable and random (the CPU spikes). I've tried all the same quick fixes or work-arounds, of which none seem to make any difference at all. Even setting core audio buffer to 1024 & disabling safety buffer.
Oddly I do find it interesting that on my system anyway, Ivory 1.7 & Atmosphere 1.2, once initially instantiated on an inst track, will consistently evenly distribute between both cores (I have a dual core machine)... and never spike the CPU, no matter how much polyphony I use on either one, with the core audio buffer set to 128. There has to be something the way these two virtual synth plugs are coded differently, to utilize an even symetric threading or distribution to multi cores. -> I am no computer wiz tech head by any means, but this is the best way I can explain it.

Power Spike Threw My Network? PLEASE HELP!!!
Tuesday night we had a power spike that seems to have killed my network. I wanted to know has this happened tpo anyone else and if so how did you fix it. My problem is this,my ISP is Mediacom, I have a 10 MB connection, a Linksys WRT54GS V7 firmware 7.50.2 and I cannot get anything to connect to my wireless network. My pc that is wired into my router is fine. Getting good connection. I also have a Playstation 3 that connects wireless, Xbox 360 that connects wireless through a Linksys WGA54G, a pc that connects trough a Belkin wireless desktop card, and a Nintendo Wii that also connects wireless. Now Tuesday during the day everything was connected and fine. Wednesday I woke up to find that everything on my network had reset themselves and would no longer connect to the existing network. So I tried to reset everything on a new network. I couldn't get anything to connect. I replaced my router with the same model number and upgraded the firmware to v7.50.2. I called Mediacom and they reset my internet connection saying that my "modem was getting too many signals form my electronics and not my router"(?). Everything came up fine only to go down after about 5 mins (right after I tried to connect my PS3). Afterwards I called Mediacom back had them reset my connection and only tried my pc. It would connect but it would say little or no connectivity. Called Linksys support and a nice lady named Marie told me to change my from TKIP to AES change my channel to 11 and so forth and so on. It worked for about 5 mins and went down again. I called them back and again they changed my channel and lower my MTU. This time it would work but it was incredibly slow. Now I have no idea what to do and am quickly coming to my wit's end. Please help.
Message Edited by pugnacious_apbt on 09-13-2007 02:25 PMI dunno dude. This is killing me. Mediacom won't help me because they don't support in home networks. I have never had a problem before now. I had the original router for almost a year. Power spikes are quite common throughout this area and it was always fine. Now all of a sudden I have this. I dunno what to do. I need all the help that I can get. I have never had a problem with any of my Linksys products. Just run the CD and plug in everything and I'm online. Simple. Lately I have seen more of my admin screen than I had ever hoped to.

My laptop's HDD is causing fps spikes
Hello.. I purchased a dv7-2170us laptop online about a week ago.
Whenever I try to play a 3d game like Counter Strike Source or Left 4 Dead 2,
I get random fps spikes every 10 seconds constantly.
Today, I brought an external HDD and did backup my files to format my laptop.
then Idk why but I decided to run those games in the external HDD..
and they worked without any fps spikes!
so.. i was wondering if anyone knows how to solve this problem.
Please help me.Hi,
i am having similar problem,
did you find any solution? -
Lag spikes during League of Legends
I just got this laptop within the past two weeks. I was looking for a computer that could handle gaming and graphics but could do everything else with a reasonable price tag. I came up on this computer and got it customized and shipped to me. I play games like League of Legends that require a lot of virtual memory and RAM in order to run smoothly. With that being said, I downloaded League of Legends after getting the laptop and started playing a game. After about 10 minutes I started lagging horribly. My FPS dropped down to 4-5. So I did the normal thing everyone recommends. Close down all background apps, make the computer where it conforms to better performance, restarted internet, and restarted computer. After doing all the steps above I once again was playing a game just fine until about 10 minutes into the game my FPS dropped down yet again. This is a repeating error that happens about every other few minutes. I googled if anyone else had this problem and apparently I'm not the only HP user who has this issue. With that being said does anyone know how I could fix these random lag spikes and play a peaceful game of League?
Yes It's Lulu>> I play games like League of Legends that require a lot of virtual memory and RAM in order to run smoothly.
Hi,
Please check Memory from Task Manager to see available RAM after 10 mins. Please bear in mind, even you have a lot of RAM available but system can only allocae/assign up to the max number. Laptops for games are not cheap, you need to spend at least $2,500 for a laptop to be able to play high end games.
Regards.
