T530 Display Crash w/Corrupted Screen

Got my T530 2359CTO delivered on 6/28 on an order placed 6/12.
This one may be going back as defective. It has an intermittent, but spectacular, hardware failure. I think it's a problem with the mobo.
I'm attaching screen shots of how it goes down. At completely random times while using it, it will lock up and the screen will distort into geometric block shapes which flicker rapidly.

Here's a link to a video of the crash:Lenovo T530 Video Fault - YouTube The high flicker rate says hardware failure to me.
T530 has the Nvidia 5400M and Intel HD 4000 running in Optimus mode.  It happens while plugged in and well as on battery.
You can't recover from it without powering down the T530.
I tried reinstalling the Lenovo drivers from the Lenovo support page, also reformatted the HD and reinstalled Win7 fresh, tried installing the latest intel and nvidia drivers straight from intel and nvidia, etc.
I also stress tested the T530 using AIDA64 for over an hour without incident. No what I try, at completely random times...bang! I've had it happen twice in 10 minutes. I've also seen it happen only once in 5 hours.
I hope this will help someone else. Has anyone else seen anything like this before?

>Lenovo should be able to fix the unit. I'm thinking mobo or processor. Does it happen if you force the BIOS to iGPU only with autodetect (Optimus capable OS) off? What if the BIOS is forced to nVidia only (will prompt you to install new drivers and reboot the first time)?
It's either the processor (w/iGPU), mobo, or nvidia board.  If Lenovo wants to replace all three of them, then they would likely fix it.
I've arranged to DOA this one and I've ordered up a W530 as a replacement.  I'm just a bit paranoid and hope that a different GPU + mobo (same model CPU) will get me past this.
I had beenrunning in optimus mode during all of the crashes so far.  I recently swiched to nvidia only in bios (and installed the drivers).  It hasn't crashed yet, but that doesn't mean much.  I've pounded on the machine for 5 hours straight, only to have it crash on light surfing in the 6th hour.  Just for my own curiosity, I wish I could find a way to trigger the crash.
Laptops are pretty hard to disassemble and reassemble.  I'm not interested in having someone completely disassemble my new laptop to replace the mobo and then put it back together so that I can continue testing it to see if it really was the mobo or something else!
Perfect tender rule apples!

  • 10.4.9 and corrupted screen display

I updated my 1.83Ghz MacBook Pro to 10.4.9 today, but when I wake it from sleep, the screen display is severely corrupted. I need to hit the power button, and get it to sleep/wake up again before the screen clears and the machine is usable. Anyone else notice this?

I am experiencing the same issue on a new MacBook Pro after going to sleep.
However, you can actually enter your log-in details (if you've set up log-in after sleep under security), and access the Finder, but the screen is still corrupted.
However, if I close the lid, and reopen, the problem resolves itself, i.e. the screen is no longer corrupted, and I can log-in as normal, i.e. so, you don't need to power cycle.
Previously, I tried resetting P-RAM, and that also seemed to temporarily resolve the issue, but it occurred again about a week later.
I have a feeling it may be something to do with the "Safesleep" file being corrupted, and I have tried to disable that via Terminal using the following command (usual disclaimer about making changes via Terminal): sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
(NB. default setting is 3 if you want to turn this feature back on).
I tried that yesterday, and the issue hasn't re-occurred yet, but will keep you posted. I suspect that isn't really the issue, because I'm not always trying to recover from the safesleep file, i.e. just normal sleep after a few minutes without any power loss.

  • A536 corrupted screen display

    Hi,
    Good day!
Anyone can help me with my A536 phone?
It has corrupted screen display (with horizontal lines)
Please see attached pictures for your reference.
    Thanks,
    PJ

Factory restore would restore everything back to default, note that factory restore would delete all data and apps.
This would narrow down if there are any apps which could be causing lines issue. Also I would suggest to do a System Update first. If that does not help then factory restore. If factory restore does not help then service center.

  • My i pod touch crashed and is displaying a blank yellow screen and won't turn off what can i do?

My I pod crashed and now displays a blank yellow screen i can't switch it off what can I do.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Strange corrupted screen and hanging 10.8.5 Early 2008 Mac Pro

For the past couple of days (and also a couple of times in the past I remember) I've been getting a strange corrupted screen and the computer freezes. I can still move the mouse around but nothing clicks and the computer is completely non-responsive. I can't force quit and programs or the finder and the only way out is to restart the computer.
Yesterday, when this first started happening the computer wouldn't actually restart properly and hanged at the grey screen/apple logo .
I did all the usual like booting in safe mode, which booted up and seemed to work OK but I didn't try for long enough to see if the crash happened again.
But when I tried to reboot in normal mode the same grey screen/apple logo and no further, just the mouse pointer which I was able to move around the grey screen.
I did disk utility in safe boot mode, repaired disk permissions, reset the PRAM/NVRAM ( think I've got that right).
I even did a new install of 10.8.5 - but not a complete clean install wiping the disk etc, but re-install on top.
That solved the problem or so I thought - the computer started up normally and I was able to carry on working.
But since then I've had about 4 crashes throughout the course of the day - I've been able to get work done but every so often the screen (apple cinema display) will get a funny hatched effect on part of the screen or a corrupted screen - I've attached pictures so you can see.
I've set up a Genius Bar appointment for tomorrow but wondered if anybody has any suggestions before then?

The strange thing is that a Apple Hardware Test (run from the original 10.5.8 install CD) shows no problems with the hardware.
Yes, the screen corrupted when starting up from a completely different drive and from the recovery disk this morning - suggesting to me that the fault is definitely not with a corrupted hard drive/software but on the video side of things.
How can I definitively find out if it the graphics card that just needs replacing as opposed to a new HD which my repair centre have suggested is at least one of the problems?
Confused now as to the next step forward.

  • When receiving email, Thunderbird freezes and displays "Not Responding" in screen header. Adds popstate folder to account.

I'm running Thunderbird 31.6.0 on Windows 8.1 with BitDefender 2013.
    PROBLEM:
When getting email, Thunderbird freezes and displays "Not Responding" in screen header.
When TB is closed then reopened, a popstate folder (popstate-1.dat) is added to account. A new popstate folder appears with each crash/freeze, and as long as they are not deleted, they pile up with unique numbers (popstate-1.dat, popstate-2.dat, etc.).
    (see attached screenshot)
NOTE: I've included troubleshooting details below for all the fixes I tried, thinking it might be helpful to anyone who has a similar problem and is thinking about going down those paths. Ultimately, it seems that FIX ATTEMPT 5 is the winner.
    ==================================
    FIX ATTEMPT 1:
Following the suggestion in this archived mozilla support post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1026288, I restarted Thunderbird in Safe Mode (Help > Restart with Add-Ons disabled...), checking the "Disable all add-ons" and "Reset toolbars and controls" and clicking "Make Changes and Restart" button.
In Add-Ons Manager, BitDefender Toolbar now appears to be disabled.
    (see attached screenshot)
    But the problem persists.
    FIX ATTEMPT 2:
Following the suggestion in this archived mozilla support post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1016811, I clicked Help > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder button. This opens a File Explorer window for 3I58b9dq.default (this is the "profile" folder) which contains panacea.dat and folderTree.json files.
I changed file names to panacea-changed.dat and folderTree-changed.json (rather than deleting them, in case I need to restore them), and I reopened Thunderbird.
This did not solve the problem -- and, furthermore, the profile folder seems to have automatically generated new panacea.dat and folderTree.json files to replace those for which I changed the filenames.
    FIX ATTEMPT 3:
Following the suggestion in this mozilla support post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1044774, I restarted Windows 8.1 in safe mode with networking enabled (using these instructions: http://www.howtogeek.com/107511/how-to-boot-into-safe-mode-on-windows-8-the-easy-way/.)
TB does not crash when Windows runs in safe mode, but the aspect ratio of my display is distorted; everything's really big and stretched horizontally, and my two displays are mirrored rather than extended. Running Windows perpetually in safe mode is not the ideal fix.
QUESTION 1: I understand that troubleshooting is supposedly done best in safe mode — What might I do in safe mode to diagnose the Thunderbird problem?
    FIX ATTEMPT 4:
This article https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues#Symptoms, suggests that problems with Thunderbird associated with BitDefender can be solved by uninstalling and re-installing BitDefender.
Not really comfortable uninstalling and re-installing, I disabled Bitdefender (Settings button > Antivirus button > Shield tab > On-Access Scanning toggle Off) to see if that would work. It did not fix the problem.
QUESTION 2: Would uninstalling BitDefender be any different than disabling it?
    FIX ATTEMPT 5:
Create a Bitdefender Exclusion for the Thunderbird folder:
Settings button > Antivirus button > Exclusions tab > Excluded files and folders link > Add button > navigate to Thunderbird folder (c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\thunderbird) > Both radio button > Add button > OK button
THIS FIX DID THE TRICK! YAY!

FIX ATTEMPT #5 above did the trick, and now I see that it was the chosen solution for a similar post of the same problem at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1044774

  • IPad constantly glitching/freezing/crashing/parts of screen unresponsive - time for a factory reset OR a trip to the Apple store???

iPad constantly glitching/freezing/crashing/parts of screen unresponsive - time for a factory reset OR a trip to the Apple store???
My son has nothing but problems with his iPad Mini.  It is less than a year old and it constantly freezes/crashes/glitches and parts of the screen are unresponsive.  This happens while playing games, watching movies, surfing the net etc etc
The iPad has been in a heavy duty Survivor case from day 1 and has been very well taken care of - so I don't think it's a damage issue
I have tried numerous resets (just holding the 2 buttons) and have disabled every feature on the iPad that might be causing memory/RAM issues (?)  all to no avail.
I haven't tried resetting to factory settings as I don't want to lose all the data on the iPad (mostly his game achievements and Minecraft maps that he has worked so hard on!!!)
    SO - any suggestions:
    1) Take it in to the Apple Store - I have never gone to Apple over an issue, is this possibly covered by warranty???
    2) Factory Reset - If I do this can I save all his game achievements/data???
    Cheers,
    Todd

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Display Crash

I have been using my Quicksilver for a while, and it has worked fine. Then the other day the display crashed 5 seconds after I logged on. I tried changing any setting that I could think of that would relate to a display. What happens is the log in screen is fine, I log in and the desktop is fine for about 5 seconds. After that the display went odd. If you go to You Tube, you can see what I mean by watching my video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_av2ZOw9mw From what I can tell, it's a problem with the computer itself, not the monitor. (I tested it on 3 and it does the same thing.) If you know anything about this, please reply.
    Thanks.

Look in the "Seeing" pane of "Universal Access" system preference and make sure the "Enhance contrast" slider is all the way to the left.

  • IMac crashes into white screen

iMac (Early 2008), OSX 10.8.2 randomly crashes, displaying only a white screen. Is there any indication what this could be or how to approach the problem? Also, where can we find the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) for the iMac?

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.

my iphnoe5S always crash with blue screen, sometimes can`t start up

    Hello liuqinqin,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
    Have a nice day,

  • G5 turns on but display stops at gray screen+apple logo

Can someone tell me why my G5 turns on but display stops at gray screen+apple logo. The keyboard and the superdrive not responding. After a minute the fans kick in and grow louder and faster...?? I tried a reset with the P and R but keyboard N/S. USB have power. I do get the start sound then the gray logo+screen.
    Thanks for the help anyone!!
    G5 dual 2G   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   2G RAM, 23" display

I was getting a similar issue yesterday, stuck on the
grey screen, then the G5 turned into mini turbine
engine. I'm not sure what fixed it, i took out the
plastic wind deflector and noticed three leds next to
the RAM slots were lit up.. with some quick googling
bringing me back to apple's support pages, it turned
out the lights came up because the deflector shield
wasn't in place. Anyway myabe it was slightly out of
place, but that coupled with unplugging the power
cable for some moments seemed to help, and i was able
to get past the logo screen etc..
but i was still getting intermittent issues, with
startup and programs, and getting plenty of crashes.
So i did the Apple Hardware Test, and after 3hrs it
turned out my RAM was at fault. I recieved the
machine only a week back, since then i've added new
RAM, which was the exact same Samsung RAM that apple
use, though one stick didn't share the exact same
serial, it was still the same spec.. anyway i've
removed the pair of 1GB sticks for the time being,
and since doing so, i've got my mac running to its
full strength.. i just hope i can sort out this RAM
issue and not have blown my money.
Thanks for the help but I tried the cable thing etc and nothing so I reformated the disk (clean install and I'm back to normal now...so the RAMS were not the problem in my case.
Also, I'm glad I backed up all my stuff frequently therefore, no losses...
