T530 Display gets black for seconds

I use my T530 with two monitors with extended desktop. The external monitor is the main display.
Since I updated to Win8.1, at irregular intervals (seconds or minutes) both displays gets black for a second, all windows are moved to the laptop-display for a short time and then back to the main display.
It´s extremly annoying and it is not possible to use the monitors seperate.
Sometimes there is a message, that the GPU is ready to save energy.
All drivers are current and from the lenovo homepage.
Has anybody an idea?
Thanks in advance.
Ulli

Do you have an Apple Care extended warranty because it sounds like the begining of inverter failure. If it is a bad inverter, that is a hardware failure and can't be fixed with software.

• Samsung SyncMaster 215TW display goes black for 2-3 seconds on DVI

My SyncMaster 215TW goes black (blinks off?) for 2-3 seconds while connected to my PowerBook by DVI. After trying to get help from Samsung's support site (lot's of the widgets seem to be broken), I found a page ( http://erms.samsungusa.com/customer/sea/jsp/faqs/faqsview.jsp?PG_ID=1&AT_ID=15272&PROD_SUB_ID=28&PRODID=-1 ) that suggests such behavior is a result of a cable or video card. This behavior happens at most, only once per session. I'm not sure if this is a problem, and if so, if it's the display or the PowerBook's Nvidia chipset. Has anybody had any problems like this?
Thanks.

Hi rossmatt06,
If you are having intermittent issues with the external displays connected to your MacBook Pro, you may find the following article helpful. In particular, if at all possible I would test with different adapters to try to rule out an incompatibility.

• Display turns black for around 10 seconds

I just encounter this problem twice in a day, it happens without any warning:
First the display of my macbook turns black suddenly without any warning and can last for around 10 seconds before wakes up again. During this time, I can hear the noise of hard disc or fan but it seems that the display does not respond to the keyboard. My battery is full and the power adaptor is connected.The power saving is on, but I do not think that is the cause since my finger is keeping moving on the touchpad all the time and the display does not respond to the keyboard as it should when shutting down for power saving.
I was browsing the web before these accident and the model of my Macbook is Macbook2,1; It is 16 months old and runs Tiger 10.4.11.
Currently my macbook function normally but I do not sure if this accident indicates some big problem. I have checked the troubleshooting section but all the related article is about more serious problem. Has any one here ever encountered the same problem before? Does that serious?
Thank you very much for all possible help!

• Calling first query to get parameters for second query

Newbie trying to convert an Oracle Report to BI. The report has 1 parameter from the user, which is plugged into a query that returns grouped data (4 values, 1 row). This data is then used in multiple places (not just where clause) in a second query to get the data for the report. Can anyone please point me in the right direction to accomplish this?
I have looked at using a before trigger possibly to get the first query values but am not sure how to then pass those values back to be used by the second query.
Thank you for ANY suggestions!

Hello,
you use any fields in additional querys as parameters.
If you use XML-data-template, it would look like this:
<dataTemplate name="INVOICE_REPORT" description="Invoice Report" Version="1.0">
<parameters>
<parameter name="P_INVOICE_HEADER_ID" dataType="number"/>
</parameters>
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="QUERY_INVOICE">
<![CDATA[
select ivh.invoice_header_id
, ivh.invoice_number
, ivh.customer_id // here you select the field which is a parameter for next query
-- ... additional fields ... --
from tbl_invoices ivh
where ivh.invoice_header_id = :P_INVOICE_HEADER_ID
-- and additonal conditions --
]]>
</sqlStatement>
<sqlStatement name="QUERY_CUSTOMER">
<![CDATA[
SELECT c.account_number
, c.customer_name
, c.customer_city
-- ... additional fields ... --
FROM tbl_customers c
where c.customer_id = :CUSTOMER_ID // here is the parameter
-- and additonal conditions --
]]>
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataStructure>
<group name="GRP_HEADER" source="QUERY_INVOICE">
<element name="INVOICE_HEADER_ID" value="INVOICE_HEADER_ID"/>
<element name="INVOICE_NUMBER" value="INVOICE_NUMBER"/>
<group name="GRP_LINE" source="QUERY_INVOICE">
<element name="ACCOUNT_NUMBER" value="ACCOUNT_NUMBER"/>
<element name="CUSTOMER_NAME" value="CUSTOMER_NAME"/>
<element name="CUSTOMER_CITY" value="CUSTOMER_CITY"/>
</group>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate> The behavoir is much similar to oracle report

• IPad Display gets black and won't turn on again

Hello,
the display of my iPad sometimes abruptly turns black as I would put it in Sleep Mode. Although there isn't anything displayed I know that my iPad is still working (from e.g. game music etc.). When I try to reset it (pressing Sleep and Home Button for 10 sec) the Apple logo appeares but it is only visible when I put light directly on it (e.g. sitting with the sun in the back shining on my iPad, hard to explain). However after waiting for some hours (sometimes more than a day) I can wake it up as nothing would have happened.

That sounds like a hardware problem and I would suggest that you take it to an Apple Store and have the iPad evaluated. It sounds like the screen is going bad and I don't think that restoring the device would do any good - since that would be a software fix.

• When "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, display gets black and a weird pixelation when I move the mouse

When "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, and those X minutes pass by, my MBA logs out. After that, when I want to use it again, I found that display is totally black and if I use the touchpad, then I can start seeing "what is behind" that black screen (Login Window), like you can see on the picture:
I took it to Tech Service and they didnt find out any hardware issue. Any ideas?

I recently found out that this only happens when DISPLAY is set to go to sleep minutes before the "Log out after X minutes of inactivity". I had "Display sleep" option set to 5 minutes and "Log out after 10 minutes of inactivity" and this causes the display to go to sleep first (screen goes black) and then, 5 minutes later, it logs out.
If "Display sleep" is off and "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, the issue does not replicate. So Im thinking it has something to do with the screen being black at the moment it logs out. Can you try and replicate that?
I will be checking the thread you suggested and hopefully oudgrad1764 can find a solution. Thanks a lot.

• Why is my home screen displayed in black for google vs white?

My google home screen when I launch firefox is now black. It shows everything but the background is black vs white? How do I change it back?

Hi pt1099,
This isn't actually a Firefox issue specifically, it's a Google thing. Did it just start today? Are you talking about the SOPA protest?
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/technology/2012/01/sopa-blackout-wikipedia-google-wired-join-protest-against-internet-censorship/
If not, it may just be a background preference for your Google homepage. You can click on change background in the lower left side of the screen.

• Using KVM causes MacPro's display output to go black for a few seconds

I have a Mac Pro plugged into a IOgear 2 port DVI KVM. The Mac Pro's other DVI output is plugged in, via VGA, to a second monitor that is not switched.
Whenever I switch to my Mac Pro, both displays go black for 2-4 seconds and then come back. This is not the most critical problem I have ever had, but since I rely on my KVM to quickly switch between computers, it is really annoying.
Anyone have a fix?

I had a similar problem with an IOGEAR kvm recently. I have the IOGEAR 2 port DVI/USB kvm (model GCS932U), which I am using to connect my MacPro and a linux box to share a monitor and keyboard.
I was running into the problem that if I had the primary monitor connect to the KVM and switched back and forth, the MacPro would actually hang and be unresponsive. After contacting IOGEAR they verified that this was an known issue with Mac's. BTW - the IOGEAR tech support was very good.
Fortunately I have a dual display setup and simply connected the secondary monitor to the MacPro via the kvm while the primary monitor was, well, the primary monitor on the Mac. Problem solved.
This is a little tangential to the current discussion, but perhaps someone may run into a similar problem at some point.
Cheers

• BootCamp: Windows 7 installation fails display only gets black

Hello i have a late 2008 macbook pro 15 with core 2 duo 2.66GHZ and 9400M. I have a big problem: i want to install windows 7 but via bootcamp it doesnt work! Partition is done the computer starts to install windows and then the display gets black and the macbook seems to turn the power off but the fans are still spinning. I dont know how to install windows on this MacBook. When i try to install simply from the cd theres the same problem: Display gets black and macbook seems to turn off. How can i install Windows 7? is there any possibility to boot from a USB device although it has a super drive?
Thank you guys for your help
greetings from germany
Marc

@LenBlazer: As far as I know, CSM support is required for Windows 7 to run in UEFI mode on any machine. CSM - compatibility services module - makes some legacy-style BIOS hooks available when in UEFI mode as I understand it.
@BAZZI: I can't find the N581 in the BIOS simulator to look at the options. Some other similar machines don't seem to list CSM as a separate option. Hopefully CSM support is enabled (silently) when UEFI is selected but I can't verify that, unfortunately.
CSM may not be the problem in your case. It has been on the machines I've tested Win7/UEFI on. When it isn't enabled you get to the Windows 7 "dancing balls" splash and then it hangs.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

• Display goes black randomly

I purchased the notebook barely 16 days ago, and after a few days I noticed that the display goes black for a second or two randomly i.e it doesn't happen while holding the notebook in any certain way or something. The dislay goes black anywhere while playing games, music, videos or simply anytime. Also now there's some flickering in the lower part of the display. It happens with no approx time gap. I asked HP's Chat Support to help me out of this, they tried to uninstall and have a clean install of display drivers, that didnt work.Then they said they'll assign the nearest Physical service centre for an onsite visit and that some one will contact me, but waiting since almost 4-5 days this didnt happen. For the past two days I regularly ask HP's Support team about the promised visit but they keep on saying that today you'll recieve a call positively. The problem has escalated to such an extent that it interferes with my studies, work and daily use. This all has cost me alot of time and money and it's all due to your faulty product and carelessness. I would like you to help me in this regard, asap, if it is at all possible for you !! Edit : Before you ask, everything's updated to it's latest version. and I don't have an external Monitor.

• When i scrolling down/up in safari the display gets brighter and blurs little bit!(macbook pro 2012, 3days old)

when i scrolling down/up in safari and firefox the display gets brighter (for instance when the screen and texts in a page is blue it gets light blue and little blurs by scrolling) and when i stop scrolling the screen gets plain.

If it is only blurring on the words and not the stationary dock then it is because the screen does not have a great response time.

• Display only works for 2 or 3 seconds after this is black on Qosmio G50

Hi
I have a problem with my G50.
On starup the display only works for 2 or 3 seconds after this is black, I connect to a external display and using de FN+F5 i can see everything on the second display, if I turn to the internal display using FN+F5 it works only the same 2 or 3 seconds.
thanks

Hello
If you can see everything on the external screen the graphic card itself is ok and works properly! So the problem must be the internal display itself or a part of it like FL inverter
Its hard to say what part exactly and I think this can only be done from professional people. So you should contact nearest authorized service provider in your country and ask the guys for help. Im sure the problem can be clarified with the guys very easy because they have professional diagnostic tools. Also they can order original Toshiba spare parts to exchange the defective hardware part.
Here is a list of them:

Good luck! :)

See Ogelthorpe's link:
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
