T530 Intel SSD 520 Freeze Issue Win 7/8

I've tried asking Lenovo support, however I'm yet to receive a reply. The other concern is that now that I know more, which may speed the reply, I'm unable to update the support request, which is annoying that such a feature is missing from the support system!
Anyway, I thought I'd try this forum to see if anyone else is having/had this issue, and may be able to help.
The issue: Widows 7/8 Freeze often for around ~30 seconds.
In Win 7 - Event viewer says "\Device\Ide\iaStor0 did not respond within the timeout period"
In Win 8 - Event manager says "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued."
After doing much research on the Internet, it would seem that this is a common issue with some SSDs and Intel's controller. The issue, in my case, is that Win 7 and 8 freezes when configured to use HIPM and DIPM, though I'm not sure if it's both or only one. In Win 7 I was able to use a registry hack (I say hack because I should have to resort to this to get it to work) to make Intel's SATA AHCI drive work. However, I wasn't able to use this same method in Win 8 as the new driver is slightly different and I can't find the necessary information to know how to implement it properly. You think that considering the SSD, chipset, and driver are made by Intel it would work, right? WRONG
Reference: The win 7 registry hack: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f108/solved-device-ide-iastor0-did-not-respond-within-the-tim...
I have found a work around in Win 8, but I consider this not good enough, because I feel that all that should be required is for me to install the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver" from the Lenovo support page and that should be it, the device should work. There should be no need to a registry hack or lose many hours trying to make it work - simply, not good enough!
Reference: The work around I have for Win 8 is:
Remove Intel's "Rapid Storage Technology Driver" in favour of MS's generic version
Applying another registry hack to enable MS's power manger to show the HIPM and DIPM options
Disable HIPM and DIPM

I would not think so.
My understanding is that it's more of a powersaving feature than anything else. I beleive HIPM and DIPM simply stands for Hardward Initiated Power Manager (Internals request power off for the sata bus), and the other Device Initaited Power Management (HD requests power off for the sata bus).

  • K9N2 Diamond - bios does not recognise Intel SSD 520 series

    Hi,
I have a K9N2 Diamond motherboard and BIOS v2.7. I recently bought an Intel SSD 520 Series and when I connect it, the BIOS does not recognise the HDD at all. When I try to install Windows 7, the HDD is shown at the list, but it says that I can not install Windows at the HDD.
I have tried to connect the HDD at SATA port 5 and 6 and set the RAID mode to ACHI and also at ports 1 and 2 and set the RAID mode to IDE. Nothing works.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    George

.and does the problem appears using the HDD which was equipped in this notebook?
If the BSOD would not appear using the HDD, then a problem is realalted to the inserted SSD drive.
In many cases firmware updates are released for SSD drives and in some cases this might be a solution.

  • Intel SSD 520 6gb/s with mac pro?

    Hey Everyone,
I checked out the new Intel 520 6gb/s SSD's, and lookes like something I SHOULD really look into aspecially as I'm working with Huge audio files and running Pro Tools.
Ultimately I want one for my mane Drive(OSX) and one for the audio recording drive.. My question is this: will my Mac Pro support and work fine with this intel 520 drive as my main drive? I see there are also 3gb/s drives available?
    Blessings to all
    Werner Beukes

sustained I/O is only part of the story, and you won't be doing sequential read/writes, at least don't think so and definitely not as boot drive or for audio libraries.
This shows some of the results - using 6G controller.
I recommended OWC Mercury Accelsior PCIe SSD cards the CalDigit PCIe 6G card, can also come with 2 x USB3. Or why not get the PCIe card mentioned in url I posted to MPG that does have results and links to OWC which is where you can see various contrllers and other upgrades.

  • W510 type 4876-A11 With Intel SSD 520 Series BSOD

    Hi lenovo community,
    please help regarding this issue.
I took out the SSD from another computer which has never failed me.
I swap into thinkpad W510, and format and re-install windows 7 HomePremium . Keep getting Blue screen of death.
    Tried win7 Professional, BSOD also.
Swap a hard disk into the w510, no issues.
Put the SSD into another computer, no issues.
    W510 bios updated to latest.
SSD firmware update to latest 400i.
    please help.
should i call thinkpad service hotline? It's still under on-site warranty.
    seems like a compactibility issue.

    Welcome to Lenovo Community! Terryhoho
Go to Control Panel > Lenovo - Airbag Protection > Uncheck Enable Active Protection System. (Check only when you are using HDD and not SSD) SSD does not require Active Protection System as it does not contain mechanical parts.
    http://www.jdhodges.com/blog/tip-shock-protection-unnecessary-if-you-have-a-ssd/
If the step above does not resolve your issue.
    1. What source do you use to reformat? Windows 7 Original DVD (Clean Install), Lenovo Recovery Disk or others?
    2. If you install using Windows 7 Original DVD, download and install System Update. (If Recovery Disk, can skip this step as it's preinstalled in the image)
    3. Download and install the latest Intel Chipset driver.
    4. Go to Control Panel > Lenovo - Update and drivers > Install Critical and Recommended Updates, up to you for optional updates.

  • Intel SSD 520 in My MBP 2007?

I have have endless problems with Hard Disks in my Late 2007 MacBook Pro and am trying to decide whether or not to switch to a SSD for it....
    Has anybody tried it before???

There is no advantage to using a SATA III drive in a computer that supports only SATA 1. The drive will still operate at only 1.5 Gb/s.

  • Regarding Intel SSD 520 and MacBook Pro 2010 13.3"

    Guys,
Can I ask that is this SSD compatible with my MacBook Pro? I tried installing it and now I am facing every problems there is that unables me to go to my desktop. I tried following the guide on ifixit.
My approach is I tried restoring from time machine using OSX Uttilities on startup. But once it reaches 15% it prompts the message saying things like restore fail, restart to try again. I tried a few times and the result is the same. After that I tried giving up and try reinstall a clean version of Mountain Lion. But my laptop fail the eligibility to install OSX.
After that I tried insert my Snow Leopard DVD and tried booting while holding down C. But there is this system error that asked me to hold the power button to restart in multiple language.
Anyone has this problem? Please? How should I fix this or at least what should I do to use my newly purchased SSD?

    Did you prep the SSD?
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Intel SSD 510 120gb in Macbook Pro 2010

Hi all. I have bought an Intel SSD 510 series 120gb and installed it instead of Superdrive. After that I cloned the Macintosh HD disk to a new SSD.
I moved user's home directory to the HDD drive, enabled noatime for SSD, turned disk sleep off and hibernate to 0. Everything works fine. Today my friend told me that Mac OS X 10.6.7 does not support trim command and my SSD resource will not be long. I checked System Information and saw that he was right. In the sistem information there is a line: TRIM Support:          No. I know that new 2011 macbook pro comes with TRIM support: yes function. How can I enable TRIM support in Snow Leopard for my SSD?
    Thank you very much.

Recently installed same type of SSD (Intel 520 120GB) in our 2010 Macbook (white) and runs just as well as its big bro. No problems at all. Storage isn't an issue since most stuff's in the cloud these days and we carry large files around on a USB stick. Way to go!

  • Windows 8 freezing issues

    Peace be upon you;
I've been using windows 8 for quite a long time, recently the freeze issue began described as follows:
*All system functions are stopped except the mouse, I can move it around but un-clickable ..
    *even ctrl+alt+del combination doesn't work ..
*background programs stop, all what i see is the current screen nothing more ..
*when the monitor is turned off due to idle state, it takes a while to wake up again and turn on the monitor.
I ran the task scheduler, tried to disable some tasks that I thought they made the problem, but it still exists.
I have no experience with any log files or crashing reports, so if any needed to diagnose the problem, I could extract them ..
My last hope was refreshing my PC which restores windows to the default state and only keeps personalization, it kept freezing randomly which made me really upset.
My graphics driver is up to date.
    System info
    Thanks in advance.

Freezing here too, just thought i'd leave a mark for MS. Some reports have been
sent, but most my crashes didn't leave any report of why and what hapend. One is for sure, it's not system overload... as one word doc is not loading anythng that hard to freez it up.
For me it seams that it's related to internet connection, no difference if using IE or Mozilla, it occurred once with dropboxs, but that too has to do with internet connection, had turned wifi off at
that time hoping to make it more stable. And when it happens it happens in bundles, 5 times in a row, then an
unexpected running smooth will come (holding my breath like watching a horror movie).
I got Win8 Pro- 64bit, might that be the incompatibility that keeps crashing this thing, windows update utility check compatibility with the old system (ran it with 32 bit XP Pro, lappy was built for
Vista 32 or 64bit) and would have downloaded win8 32 bit, I went against it and now I'm to deal with that unholy deeds backfire? NVidias (win8) driver from their site crashed it to looping startup, and forced to go back to restorepoint, so that has made me
cautious of downloading any drivers, as the only ones I can get from HP site are for Win7, should I give them a go? I did install it on new (intel 330) SSD,
    firmware updated,
    had some Intels tool
chek it, all seemed to be working right.
I may come out of the closet and say it out loud, I sincirely like Win8 and I want to keep using it, hoping badly this freeze thing to blow over!

  • MacBook Pro - Latest on Freeze issues ?

About to pull the trigger on a MBP 15" , the $1799.
Plan to add my Intel 120Gig SSD to it
I have read a TON of forum post on freeze issues, apparently related to graphic card switches ?
Have these issues been resolved ?
Anyone pick up a MBP recently confirm ?
    Thanks!
    Flyer

Ok, found an answer on applesliced.com:
"On a Mac without an eject key (like the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro Retina Display), you can force your computer to shut down at any point by pushing Command + Control + Option + Power button. Before you resort to this, first try a force quit on a problem application by pushing Command + Option + Esc."
I just tried this and it seems to have worked. At least, I was able to it down and when I turned back on the power it booted and I was able to log into my profile. Now I don't know what happened to the iCloud setup that started the whole problem but at least the install seems to have completed correctly. Any idea what I should check to verify the iCloud setup?

Any idea what it is? I'd appreciate any sort of diagnose?
My Mac has had some freezing issues before and recently was in repair because of those (memory was changed), but I've never got an error message after a freeze, and I've always had to force shut down it when it freezes. Ran the Apple hardware test couple of times, but nothing found.
I guess I have to reinstall Lion if this continues...

Lenovo V580c [Win 8.1 x64]

Lenovo V580c [Win 8.1 x64]
CSM off. Secure Boot ON.
    i5-3230M / 6GB DDR3 1600 / 1TB HDD Samsung SpinPoint F3 (Seagate Momentus 5400rpm) / nvidia GT 740M

    Что касается проблемы:
    - есть ли в BIOS Setup данной модели ноута выбор режима загрузки, "UEFI First"?
    - проверьте режим sata контроллера в BIOS Setup;
    - надеюсь, чипсетный драйвер установлен;
    - я бы все-таки остановился на драйвере AHCI с сайта Lenovo. Теперь уже придется удалять прежде установленные, слишком велик риск взаимного влияния.
Intel RST?

  • Lenonvo T440 with Intel SSD SC2BF240A4L - failing to install apps via SCCM 2012 task sequence

    Hi there
Wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue with a T440 with Intel SSD hard disk.
Our firm purchased two Lenovo T440 laptops. One has a magnetic hard disk, the other a SSD hard disk. Here are the models:
    SSD hard disk:           Intel SSDSC2BF240A4L
    Magnetic hard disk:   500Gb 7200rpm HTS725050A7E635
We deploy our Windows 7 build via a SCCM 2012 task sequence.
Building the T440 with the magnetic hard disk was trouble free. I built it repeatedly, and encountered no errors; our core applications installed successfully every time and the task sequence completed successfully every time.
    All well and good.
Building the T440 with the Intel SSD hard disk has been frustrating. When I run the task sequence on this machine, 8 times out of 10 the task sequence will fail, either stopping abruplty at installing Oracle Single-Sign On or Appsense agents. When the task sequence fails it is ALWAYS at one of these two apps.
Frustratingly, sometimes the task sequence will complete successfully on this T440.
Given we successfully deploy this task sequence to a variety of different hardware from different vendors, including other Lenovo laptops, I can only guess the Intel SSD hard disk is the culprit.
Has anyone encountred anything like this? I've went through the smsts.log file and other SCCM log files and can find nothing obvious. That this ONLY happens on the T440 with the SSD suggests to me the issues lies in that direction.
I'll swap disks in either T440 to see if the other T440 fails also with the SSD aboard, to see what happens.
Meantime if anyone has any information about this issue I'd be grateful if you coud share.
    Thanks
    CT

Does the install provide any logging? Does execmgr.log show any other info?
Per the readme, it should be setup.exe.

  • Intel SSD in MacBook Pro

    Hi everyone,
I have a Macbook Pro 15, mid-2009. I put a SSD in it. However, it's getting slow gradually. My question is how to restore the Intel SSD performance like brand-new. Please as specific as possible, thank you.

How long have you had the drive?
How hard do you use it?
How do you know its slower – through everyday usage or through benchmark tests?
This is the issue with SSDs - they slow down over time. Its the way they store and then remove data. Basically, when you delete something, its marked as deleted but not actually removed from the disk. Hence, next time you write data to them particular memory blocks, it needs to wipe the old data and replace it with the new, which takes a little more time.
There is a feature called TRIM, which basically runs when the drive is idle, and sets about 'cleaning up' the disk so that its ready to be written on, and hence faster.
However, firstly your SSD must support TRIM, and your OS must also support TRIM. Currently the only OS that supports TRIM is Windows 7, unfortunately. It seems that with the recent 10.4.6 update, TRIM support is being added to Snow Leopard as it is listed in the system properties, but its not actually 'switched on' yet. Maybe Apple haven’t quite got the full functionality going yet......
SSDs come with an ‘Indilinx’ controller built into them. This is a slightly older controller, which needs TRIM since, as you’ve noticed, the drive tends to slow down over time.
However, newer, and more expensive SSDs, are being released with a new ‘SandForce’ controller. There is secrecy around how this controller works, but its reported to do the TRIM feature on-the-fly – so it doesn’t suffer from slow down issues. I have a Vertex 2 SSD, which has the SandForce controller, and although I haven’t had it very long, its as fast as when I first installed it, and it should stay very close to this speed, as other people who have SandForce drives have noticed with their benchmarks.
The only way to speed up you drive to how it was when new, at the moment, is to use a tool to perform a clean reformat (a normal format wont do). You’ll need to search Google for a tool that does this with SSDs as I haven’t looked into any. The downside is that you obviously need to reinstall everything from scratch afterwards – hence it comes down to whether you can be bother to go through the procedure. Your SSD should still be much faster then a HDD even in its ‘slow state’.

  • Interface freeze issue with Flash Projector

I am facing an interface freeze issue with Flash Projector running a flex state based application. A Flash Projector exe was generated from a standalone flash player ver 10.2. The target machine on which the problem occuresd has 10.3.
Basically "screen freeze" means that the user interface is running as usual on Flash Player, but it's not responding to any user input (like button presses). But if we alt-tab to another application, the state changes in the Flash player. There is display with buttons on the screen, but touching the buttons or doing anything else - it did not respond.  Rebooting the computer fixes the problem.
Can you suggest why this is happening? Is there any known bug in Flash Player.
The problem is this is being hard to reproduce on the developer workstation as it doesn't happen always. But it happens quite often on the target machine running an Intel Atom N270. What debugging steps can you suggest?
    Problem Description : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z25oV9QWRyk

First, thanks for the video.  Having this always makes it much easier to understand the problem.  A couple of recommendations.  First, if you feel like this might be a player bug, please add a new bug report over at bugbase.adobe.com and if possible please include any sample code or swf's that can help us reproduce the problem internally.  Linking the video would also be great.  In addition, would you mind reposting this question over on the Flash Professional forums?  This forum is primarily for end users, the Pro forums will get you in touch with a wider developer audience who might have additional feedback.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Is it safe to use a Intel ssd on Lion?

I have two SSD'S, Is it safe to use a Intel SSD as a usb time macine back up drive and another Intel SSD for Lion?...Thank's.

It probably will not be an issue but the 'brick' will get very warm if you are using heavyweight applications.  If so, best to put it on a non insulating surface (which a rug is not).
    Ciao.
