T60 (2007FUG) Radeon X1400 PC-BSD tuning

Question

Hi everybody!
I have installed PC-BSD 9.1-RC1 on my laptop.
Unfortunately my videocard was not recognized and works only in vesa mode.
Do somebody have any idea how to resolve this issue?

There is a huge subculture that debates the usage of ATI cards in :Linux.
It isn't popular, it works in varying forms and always seems to include sacrifices such as non openGL support, or no 3d acceleration.
All of those issues vary based on the flavor and this raises the other issue about disparate drivers, kernels and leads to the larger (and sensitive topic) of why Microsoft's singularly controlled driver model seems to thrive against the sheer elegance of a LINUX operating system that comes in countless flavors.
Just because its free, doesn't make it worthy, try telling a 50 year old accountant at a remote location to compile a driver in RedHat and you won't need a phone to hear him yell.
Spare me the evangelical arguments of righteous kernel stability and superiority, Microsoft is clearly winning the market share battle despite its ridiculous bugs, instability that comes gift wrapped on an ever larger install disc.

You are trying to install one of least tolerant versions of *NIX onto to what seems to be the most recalcitrant video card.
You'd have better luck trying to make the French and Germans get along.
