T60 2008-HK4 upgrade to Win7 from XP

This T60 2008-HK4 has the T5600 Intel Core Duo and ATI Mobility Radeon X1300.  I have the Win7 Pro upgrade retail pack which says this upgrade has to be done as a clean install.  I've visited the Lenovo site and picked up as many drivers as were available but I don't see higher than a Vista one from 2007.  Similar story with the Ethernet driver.
Has anyone done this upgrade with this configuration?  Did you encounter any pitfalls related to these missing drivers or did the old Vista ones work OK?
I haven't made up my mind yet whether to go to 64-bit.  I do have 4 GB RAM aboard.  One counter-argument is my need to use Adobe Framemaker, which has a bad rap trying to work on 64-bit.  Other than software limitations, are there other pitfalls with 64-bit on this hardware?
TIA

    Hi
I hope you can help me.
I have a T400 MTM 6474-P3G that has got a corrupt HDD and is on XP. I was wondering how easy is it for me to upgrade this to WIN7 as opposed to keeping it to XP?
How can i do the upgrade and is it possible to do?
    Many Thanks

Win8 would be also an option, it will work good on your T400.
I would recommend adding up some RAM as well, DDR3 is not expensive and both Win7 and Win8 will do better with more RAM. If you plan to use a 64bit version (regardless if Win7 or Win8) 4GB is the minimum you need.

I would like to upgrade it to Windows 7, and being a student, I can get the$30 student version from Microsoft. How can I do this? Do i need to get the OS from micrsoft, and then download all the drivers,  Or is it possible to order a version from LEnovo, with all the necessary drivers and software installed?

Installed Windows 7 from XP. Downloaded itunes and imported the music library.
Now some songs will not play until I authorize this computer by signing  in using an old apple id. Now when I do that the message says too many devices on that id.
Is there a way to convert those songs to my current Apple id? Or is there a way to download them again under the new id?

Content is permanently tied to the Apple ID that it was acquired with.
If you desire the conent on your current Apple ID, purchase it with the current Apple ID.
For future reference, do not create a new Apple ID simply because of a change of email address.  Instead, update the Apple ID with the new email address.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Unable to Upgrade X60 Table to Win7 from Vista Business

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor states that Lenovo Utilities is a Known Issue. I have been unable to find any specifics on how to clear this problem.
When I attempt to actually perform the Upgrade to Win7 Professional, I am stopped with the statement that I must remove the ThinkPad Tablet Button Driver CoInstaller - unfortunately, I cannot find any way of accomplishing that.
Does anyone have any ideas??  Lenovo Tech Support was less than helpful and recommended I simply perform a clean install.

Before you upgrade to vista, first make sure you make recovery disks in XP incase you ever need to go back to XP. This should be in the Thinkvantage folder in the start menu.
Your recovery disks should have came with 3 for Vista. One is a bootable Rescue and Recovery disk that starts the process. The second disk is the OS itself and the third disk is the applications/drivers/lenovo preinstall stuff. If you don't have all three disks, give support a call.
If you do have the three disks, inset the R&R disk and go from there. If that still isn't working, go into your BIOS and make sure your optical drive is listed at a higher boot order than your HDD.

  • Upgrading Thinkpad R61 from Vista-32Bit to Win7-64Bit_stuck & need Help

I'm in the mids of upgrading my ThinkPad R61
I've added memory to 4Gb and a newer drive 320Gb
I've purchased the Win7 Home Premium Vista to Win7 upgrade (CDs).
Can I upgrade this R61 laptop to Win 7-64Bit OS?
Thus far, I cannot boot from the Win7 Upgrade CD
So I tried with a USB external DVD.  I got past the Boot stage, however, it's prompting me for a CD/DVD driver before it can continue to load.
I am sensing that I will be prompted multiple times for additional drivers (perhaps 64Bit) before I ever complete the upgrade process.
What is the quickest & easiest path to upgrade my laptop to Win7-64Bit.  (At least, to the point where I can boot from the upgraded drive).
    My ThinkPad R61 Model =  #8932CTO

    Thanks GMAC-R60
My intention was to actualy do a clean install to Win7 -64Bit.
Perhaps it has everything to do with using an upgrade (32-Bit & 64-Bit) version CD of Win7 from Vista?
When I tried to upgrade to 64Bit, it eventually took me to a screen prompting for a CD/DVD driver to continue the upgrade.  I suspected it was looking for a 64bit driver (likely the SATA controller), so I opted out thinking it will be lloking for more drivers through the upgrade process.
I then successfully upgraded it to Win7 - 32Bit version.
However, I would like to take advantage of the 64Bit speed & useability of the additional RA I have inside the laptiop.
I noticed that Lenovo have a listing of Win7 64Bit drivers under their Support section.  If one was to download and expand them them to a folder, would it be possible to essentialy upgrade to 64Bit?
Or, perhaps get CD copy from Lenovo with all the required files & drivers?

That problem occurs only on Finder, if I try see the folder by Terminal, is possible to see my files.
    Any Solution ?
    Any Tip ?
    Any Question ?

Not knowing how much RAM is installed in your iMac, your iMac can take a total of 8 GBs of RAM.
Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, I would strongly suggest installing the maximum 8 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
Here is OWC's link to your model iMac and the RAM modules you will need.macsales
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566DDR3S8GP/
You can purchase and download OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store in the OS X dock.
Before installing, it would be prudent to make a backup copy of all of your important data or your entire current system. Either using, optical discs, USB flash drives or external hard drives.
This is too insure protection of your data in case something goes wrong with the install of OS X Mountain Lion.
    Good Luck!

  • Is it a good idea to upgrade my imac from 10.6.8 snow leopard to osx maverics?

I am thinking of upgrading, any problems with this come up? thanks for help!

Do you have a realistic need to upgrade, for example, to run certain new software that requires it? If you do upgrade you will lose the ability to run all PPC software such as Office 2004, AppleWorks, and many others.
Older Macs like yours will usually run faster with Snow Leopard. And, upgrading will require you to add more RAM to your computer. 2 GBs is simply not sufficient. Otherwise, see the following:
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
