T60 2400 XT

For the Advanced Dock that lets me add a new video card, it says the X1300 is the only compatible one, but I have heard the ATI 2400 XT works too, if it does, how would this installation process go? And yes I know this has been asked before but I want my own answers.

you can use quite a few different graphics card if you do this mod to the dock.

  • Unable to see T60 on my network

I see others have reported a similar problem but none of the remedies work for me.
I have a T60 and a Z61t.  Initially, neither one could be seen on my network but they could see the other PCs.
On the Z61t, turning off the Network Security settings in Access Connections resulted in it working.
That did not help the T60.
I have tried every combination of Network Security settings including unchecking Network Security.
The problem exists even without McAfee Security installed and with Windows firewall turned off.
All PCs can ping the T60 just fine and vice versa.
The T60 can see all the other PCs and access their shared drives.
It can access the internet and my email servers just fine.
The results are the same for the wireless and ethernet connections so it must not be a hardware problem.
In other words, the T60 appears to work just fine from its point of view.
When I say "cannot see" I mean the other PCs do not see the T60 in My Network Places -> Workgroup
and Explorer -> Find-network-computer cannot find the T60 by name.
All the PCs are in Workgroup = WORKGROUP according to their System Properties dialogs.
I figure something in the ThinkDisAdvantage must be intervening some place... but what?
It acts like a total firewall block on inbound traffic.
I have literally hundreds of hours invested in the configuration of the T60.
I am beginning to think my only hope is to pitch the factory load and install XP from scratch (or sell it).
This is by far not the first problem I have had with the Lenovo add-on software hosing things.
I keep thinking I'll finally get over the last hurdle.
Does anyone have any other ideas I might try or things to check?
I should add that the T60 and Z61t both have the client security chips disabled and both have
fingerprint readers that are not configured.  I am using standard logon accounts.
I do not know enough about how IP works to have any idea how to diagnose what might be blocking it.
    Thanks.

    Finder > Applications > Launchpad.
    Drag it to the Dock.

  • Slow/Jerky Video with kt6v\sempron 2400\geforce mx400

    Hello!
I'm hoping someone out there has seen this problem before and can point me in the right direction for how to solve it.  I am putting this system together for my sister.  Here are the system's credentials:
    msi kt6v mainboard
    amd sempron 2400 processor
    256 meg ddr ram, 400mhz
nvidia gforce mx400 agp display adaptor  64meg
western digital caviar 20 gig hard drive
generic (comp usa) 52x ide cdrom drive
    lucent pci lt win modem
windows xp pro  with service pack 2
Mainboard bios has recently been upgraded to  recognize the sempron cpu.
Cpu freqency in cmos is set to 166mhz.  (is this the correct setting?)
    The problem:
When playing various video games, such as Carnival Cruise Lines Tycoon, Trailer Park Tycoon, or The Sims (all of which are great games, btw), the video is extremely choppy/jerky.  It doesn't play smoothly at all.  But it SHOULD!   As a test, if I replace that video card with an  FX5200 personal cinema, it works great!  (but there's no way I'm going to give my sister that fx5200 card!  I need the mx400 to work in this machine.)   I can put that gforce mx400 in another machine (kt4v with amd 2200xp) and it works great.  So this tells me the problem should not be with the display adaptor nor the kt6v mainboard.  But is there a compatability problem between the two?  Is there a setting I've overlooked?  I'm thinking this is probably an issue with the display drivers or the mainboard drivers, I just don't know.  I've spent the last 3 nights trying to figure this one out.  This has me stumped.
Anyone else seen this same problem and know the fix?  Also, anybody know what the recommended cmos settings are on the kt6v  when using the mx 400 display adaptor and the sempron 2400 cpu?  What are the recommended drivers/versions for this mainboard and display adaptor?
    Thanks!!!!!

    No

  • Windows 7 randomly locks up on T60

I have had this T60 for over a year. It came with a clean install with Windows 7 Professional.  Over the last 3 weeks it has started locking up randomly.
Powering off/on seems the only way to bring it back.
I've been getting the family to tell we when it happens and what they were doing at the time. No patterns. It happens when they're browsing or using MS Outlook or playing games. At its worst one might only get a few minutes before it happens.
     Mr. Google offered some solutions:
    update BIOS
scan for adware, malware, and viruses
make sure all devices in device manager
    run a registry cleaner utility
    run ThinkPad system update
check if graphics drivers up to date
    Run Microsoft memory diagnostics test.
Updating the BIOS seemed to solve things for 2-3 days and then the lock ups came back.
So did running ThinkPad System update, but eventually they came back after a day or two.
There were no ATI graphics drivers for the T60 and Windows 7
Currently the machine is locking up about twice a day and it is being used intermittently for about 2 hours each day.
I'd do a clean install but I don't have the Win 7 discs and there is no recovery partition as this is not the original HDD.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the heads up Fredie5, great little program!
My older Toshiba laptop started to lock and freeze for no apparent reason.  Windows logs and events showed no indication of the problem and the lock/freeze occurred at random times with no pattern.  I ran across your posting and decided to give Registry Recycler a try.  Bingo, problem solved!  My best guess is that a few weeks earlier I had been trying out different drivers as well as a couple of software applications.  Remnants left behind by their uninstall was most likely the culprit.  Thanks again !

  • Hey, I have $2350-2400 and I want some proper guidance for the macbook pro

    HEY!!!
Guys I will try to make this as easy as possible!
First let me tell you I am 15, I love graphics, music and literature and I have no credit card, my iTunes account has no money, I'm using an account that doesn't require credit cards! So (ugh) I buy all the free apps
    Anyway
Dad gave me $2400 to buy a macbook pro and keep the change but since I live in Italy, I have to convert them to Euros.
    $2400-1821 EUR
So I came up with 2 conclusions and I just want some opinions on which is the smarter decision.
Well apparently there are 4 types of laptops I can get right now from the macs.....
to make this as simple and as easy as possible (and to show off my ICT skills ) I made a table which includes
    1) the laptop mentioned
    2) the price in dollars (which I got directly from the apple store in the US)
    3) the price in euros (which I got directly from the apple store in Europe)
    Macbook Pro Kind
    Price in dollars
    Price in EUR
    13-inch: 2.5GHz
    $1119.00
    1249.00 EUR
    13-inch: 2.9GHz
    $1499.00
    1549.00 EUR
    13-inch: 2.5GHz with Retina Display
    $1499.00
    1549.00 EUR
    13-inch: 2.6GHz with Retina Display
    $1699.00
    1749.00 EUR
But you can install somethings on to your laptop right there in the shop and I wanted two things,
    1) pages: I thought would help with my writing because I write poems, novels, stories, etc
    2) numbers: this program just deals with spreadsheets and charts and just the mathematical area and thought that this would help when doing A levels and GCSE math
3)keynote: This is basically like power point and it just makes presentations.
each of these programs are 18 EUR
One more thing, since I am planning on using this laptop for several years, I change  changing countries often and so the laptop can come with an adapter that works in both European and American countries
    But thats 80 EUR
The laptop (the edition i want) is 1749 EUR
that means with all these additional stuff
I calculated it on the apple store
    1749.00 EUR + 18 EUR + 18 EUR+ 18 EUR 80 EUR = 1883.01 EUR
If we were in america then according to the website's store
    $1699 + $19.99 + $19.99 + $19.99 + $79.00=  $1847.96
I'd be buying the SAME amount of things in the States for $1847.96 and I'd have 552 dollars change but in Italy everything would cost 1883.01 EUR which is the equivalent of $2481.61 which is more expensive than the US!
    BUT
You have to consider the fact that this is with all the additional costs
The additional things I thought I'd need
If I said "no just buy the laptop"
then the correct price in dollars is $1699
the correct price in euros would be 1749 EUR
the laptop only. No extra features.
1749 EUR in Dollars would be $2305!
    Exactly $2305!
That means I would only have had 95 dollars difference.
Anyway the bottom line is all these additional things that I was talking about, the softwares and everything, they're going to help me in the near future, not RIGHT now.
So what I can do is just buy the laptop and then as I progress in to year eleven, slowly by slowly, I can start buying the softwares.
I'm sorry I'm unburdening ALL these different information on you, but I just wanted to approach this from as many angles and be as aware of all the variables as possible.
    SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    (THIS IS THE CONCLUSION)
    OPTION ONE
Buy the 13-inch: 2.6GHz with Retina Display Macbook Pro for 1749.00 EUR including all the additional features (the three softwares and the adapter which together have the total value of 134 EUR)
Therefore the total amount of money we'd be spending is
    1883.01 EUR
That means the total cost of everything would be $2481.62 and I'd get no difference
    OPTION TWO
Buy the 13-inch: 2.6GHz with Retina Display Macbook Pro for 1749.00 EUR and then when I am 16 or 18 I buy these softwares with a credit card and apply them for my A levels later.
That means the total amount we'll be spending is
    1749.00 EUR
    Which is $2305
I will have $95 (72 EUR) pocket money.
(BY THE WAY, MY PARENTS WORK FOR THE UNITED NATIONS AND DON'T PAY VAT OR SOMETHING AND SO WE KIND OF SOMEHOW GET A 20% DISCOUNT SO THE PRICES WILL BE A BIT OFF AND CHEAPER.... I JUST CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO DO ALL OF THE CALCULATIONS BUT YEAH.....................)
    Thanks for reading
Please reply ASAP I'm buying the mac extremley soon.....

If I do format everthing works - but only with this notebook.
So I am not able to share data with other computer - or not able to get my pics from my cam...

I hate to say it, but I agree with carbon_unit, this sounds like a Windows problem.
As a long shot you could try uninstalling all USB hubs in Device Manager, re-install the Chipset Drivers and restart the sytem to allow the USB hubs automatically installed again. I doubt this will help, but it's all I could think of.

  • Restore the hard drive to the factory WinXP OS image - T60 1951-A31

I'm trying to restore the hard drive to the factory WinXP OS image on a number of 1951-A31 ThinkPad T60.
Found these instructions in the trouble shooting guide:
    1. If possible, save all your files and shut down your operating system.
    2. Turn off your computer for at least 5 seconds.
    3. Turn on your computer. Watch the display carefully. While the message, “To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button” is displayed, press the ThinkVantage button. The Rescue and Recovery workspace opens.
    4. Click Restore your system and follow the instructions on the screen.
The problem is that Restore your system does not appear.
I found a thread on Thinkvantage  looks promising:  No Restore Option
    The thread has this:

    kamszelei, welcome to the forum,
    from a lurker
which version of Think Vantage System Upate do you have installed?
If you have version 3.13.0009 installed please try the following; boot into Windows and run TVSU.  It'll update itself, restart, then update itself again. Hopefully the option to recover to factory content will then be available to you.
Please also check the following registry key; HKLM\Software\Lenovo\TVT Common
If the "System Type" key is 1, change it to 0. If it is already set to 0 don't change anything and let us know
Unfortunately my Thinkvantage update system is saying it cannot connect because it is not running
Here are my questions about ThinkVantage:
How do I get Thinkvantage update to run?
How do I find the version number for Thinkvantage
How do I "boot into Windows and run TVSU
    My other question is this:
Can I simply buy the backup DVDs with the original XP?
    Thanks
    (mod edit: fixed broken link)

You need to have a harddrive installed that contains the original system restore partition, many people delete them because they are redundant and use up space and after a while, most of the content is outdated, meaning it will install 4-5yo system and software that you'd only want to replace or update anyway. I prefer to install from a windows setup disc, but you can buy the restore sets, it's a set of 7 or 8 CDrom, not DVD discs. Lenovo sells them I believe, or if you can find someone willing to copy a set and send them to you, it would save you some money. I can tell you that if I had a several of these to do, I'd much rather use a single windows setup disc, preferably one with the latest service pack and updates, so I'm done after a few mins and one disc, opposed to installing many discs, changing from one to the other, then in the end downloading and installing service pack three, then a few dozen hotfixes, it could turn into hours of work on each unit, but if you want them with all the preloaded software, then that is the only way. • Desktop icons not showing up for T60's and T61's

We are having an issue with nearly half (we have a few hundred at out company) of our T60’s and T61’s where they do not show the desktop icons at boot up.  If they start the task manager and run explorer then everything pops up like normal.  But they will have to repeat this process every time they boot up.  We also tried having them turn off the wireless radio via the slider switch but that did not help.
One fix we found was to go C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data  and copy the IconCache.db found there over the users IconCache.  This fixes the issue for 99% of the people who have this problem, but there are a few that continue to boot up to no desktop items.
The only other fix we have found was to put explorer.exe in the start up folder.  This brings up a pop up of their My Documents at start up that they have to close but is much easier than going through the task manager to run explorer.
We also have many T43’s and many Lenovo desktops from M-81, M-82, and M-88’s.  none of the desktops show this problem and we have not had this issue with any of the 43’s.
The software packages are essentially the same for all of our systems.  The only difference being is that the desktops do not have VPN.

  • T60 - issues when coming out of hibernation without AC adapter

    Hi,
I use XP Pro on my T60.
Standby mode has weird effects on it, so I use Hibernation.
Hibernation works pretty well (I wish it weren't so slow, but I have 3GB of RAM in there now), but if I go into Hibernation with the AC adapter plugged in and then go out of Hibernation without it (i.e. on battery), most of the time some part of Windows or the laptop is acting up.
The most obvious sign is that once this occurs I can no longer shut down Windows - it will usually not react to any Hibernation or Shutdown or Restart command.
If I open CMD and type "shutdown -f -r -t 0" (Force, Restart, Time 0 seconds - also without -r), it will at least close all programs and shut down as far as the Windows login screen. If I tell it again to shutdown here, it stops at an empty screen with my Desktop background color.
    Other symptoms:
My mouse will move for about one second and then stop for about one second and repeat this pattern.
Networking may or may not work at all, and the network properties are sometimes not accessible.
If I force Explorer to shut down, it won't come back up by itself.
The last few times this happened I tried the following things to fix this:
-Forced all unnecessary processes to shut down
-Stopped all Services - two or three could not be stopped, but I can't remember which ones they were
-Used Process Explorer to find anything that used CPU
Also nothing unusual in the Event Log.
My system was recently updates with all the newest Lenovo updates, but I have had this issue ever since I got the laptop.
    Nothing helped.
So I'm wondering if it could be a driver that crashes, or something like that.
I think it at least partially must have to do with power management since it only happens when I switch between battery and AC adapter while the laptop is in hibernation.
Any ideas of other things I could try?
    Thanks!
    Richard

    Update:
I had my laptop running on the AC adapter all day.
Then I briefly unplugged it for 2 minutes to carry it to the conference room where I plugged it in again.
Later I unplugged it to bring it back to my desk.
As described in my original post, I was then unable to simply shut down my laptop - it did not shut down all the way, and I had to force it to turn off.
I hope someone here can help me with this, it's a real pain in the neck...
    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to upgrade ATI radeon HD 2400 XT from 128MB to 512MB?

Hi, I just bought "Tom Clancy's Splinter cell: Conviction" and it doesn't work on my iMac.
Of course I should have checked in depth the details of the requierments because now it appears that my graphic card doesn't support the game.
(I didn't think it would be a problem since I play "COD Warfare" with no lagging or any bug at all)
    I have an iMac 20" - Mid 2007.
Hence my question stated in the title "Is it possible to upgrade ATI radeon HD 2400 XT from 128MB to 512MB?"...
I should add in case of a positive answer: "and how?..."
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you both!
I guess that is pretty much answering my question!...
Next time I buy a game I'll make sure I read THOUROUGHLY the requierments...
    So I don't waste $25.99 for nothing!...
When is someone going to come with an app that tells you right away if you computer support it or not???
    Apple??? The competition??? Who???

  • Looking for a Backup T60

Looking for a T60 8743CTO -- anyone know of a refurbished that is available?
    jcm

An Intel-based 14" T60 would boot from your disk (you would get an error message from the ATi driver). It would also use your same battery, memory and optical drive. It would be the cheapest backup. You might or might not need a wireless driver. It depends on which wireless card you now have. Usually, you would not need one. Buying a machine with 1GB of memory would cost an extra $10 (approximately) but would save you from needing to open the machine. I have a couple of very clean ones. If you are interested, send me a pm.
