T60 Battery failure

Hi guys. I have a problem. I have laptop T60 with original battery. The last night everythins was OK - the condition in Power manager was GOOD, charging cycle - 145. But today I cannot ude my battery - the battery indicator just blinking and when I tried to use  laptop on the battery - it doesn't work. Power manager says - Condition - Poor, Remaining capacity - 80% - is it possible?!? Is it possible the battery goes down for one night?!? I tried other battery and the laptop works fine. I wrote several topics but didn't find any solution for my problem. Do I have to buy a new battery or it's possible the problem to be sofware?! And the last - sorry for my english. Thank you in advance

Yes. I've had it happen to me. It wasn't overnight but a few days after I'd last used it. As I understand it the problem arises because one or more cells inside the battery short out. This can't be repaired. There are places that claim they can "refurbish" notebook batteries but I've never heard of any with consistently good results.
But look at it another way. You have a "T60 with original battery." These batteries are under a 1-year warranty even when the notebook itself came with a 3-yr warranty for a good reason. That's because they deteriorate slowly and thus they're considered expendable, like the battery and tires on your car.
Your T60 must now be at least 3 years old. You got good use from your battery. As frustrating as it may be to see the battery die suddenly and for no apparent reason, it really did give you a good run for its money.

My IPad 1 has lost complete power. I have attempted a restart and a reset without results. I have attempted to charge with the keyboard dock, the wall charger and connecting to my MacBook Pro. Again no results just a black screen. Is this a battery failure? I am in Mexico for another 6 weeks and hoping to find a solution.

    Cathi-
How long did you have the iPad connected to the wall charger?  A completely dead iPad battery may not work until it has been charged for some time - maybe a half hour or more.  I suggest leaving it on charge overnight, and then trying the reset.
The MacBook may be able to charge the iPad if it doesn't go to sleep, but it will be extremely slow.  the Wall charger is definitely the best way.

  • IPhone won't turn on... possibly a sudden battery failure?

    Hi,
So my iPhone was working fine, i received a call, put it down... but next time I go to check something I push the home button and nothing happens.
I've tried turning it on - nothing, charging it - nothing, taking the sim card out etc - nothing.
I tried calling too, and just goes to voicemail.
I bought it off a work colleague as a replacement for a lost one, so I have no idea of the serial number, and its definately out of warranty.
Any idea what the problem is? Feels like a sudden and total battery failure, but I don't even know how I'd get that sorted/replaced!
    Please help me someone!!
    Thanks, Matt

Does it charge if you connect to the adapter? If yes, let it charge for about 20min. then connect in recovery mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If it does not charge, contact Apple to get it serviced, see these details about the battery replacement program: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/battery/

  • PXI 8156B Battery Failure and restore harddrive.

    Hi,
I am working on restoring a very old system built using PXI8156B, attached are the snaps.
The system has damaged OS. I want to restore by ghost image which was captured just before final system was ready for operation.
The CPU module has battery failure which cause "Loading defaults" thereby booting from C. I tried making boot sequence "A,C" but was no success.
I would like to know how do I restore the battery..? There doesn't seem removable battery.
How can I restore the ghost image if battery solution fails..?
    Kindly advice.

I would like to erase a partition that I have on my 30gb internal harddrive.
Do you have more than one partition on the HDD? I suspect you have only one since the HDD is only 30 GB.
Your computer is now 8 years old, as is the original HDD. The average life of these drives is 3 to 5 years, so your HDD is well past old age. You may be getting the error messages because your drive is failing.

  • Premature CMOS 2032 Battery Failures

There have been many reports in this forum lately concerning premature CMOS 2032 battery failures.
If there truly is a common CMOS battery problem with MSI systemboards
we need to start to find the solution by identifing what vendors battery is failing and on what boards.
My mobo is MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (G52-M7125X1)
My original CMOS battery was a KTS Lithium CR2032
It lasted about 1 month then the systemboard failed to POST.
I replaced it with a Energizer Lithium 2032
It has worked for a week so far.
The 2032 is a Lithium-Manganize Dioxide 3.0 Volt Button Battery.
It is designed not for recharging.
Life expectancy is least 2 to 4 years
A new 2032 battery unused and right out of the package measures 3.26Volts DC.
The new 2032 battery in the motherboard with AC power on, measures 2.97 Volts DC.
A defective KTS CR2032 battery out of the motherboard for days measures 2.97 Volts DC.
A defective KTS CR2032 battery in the motherboard with AC power on measures 1.41 Volts DC.
I used a Fluke Series 77 Digital Multimeter for the measurements.
My Phoenix-Award BIOS Version 1.4 - PC Health Status of the good Battery = 1.66 Volts
I have no idea what that means other than the BIOS is not reporting accurate battery voltages.
If you just have to know all there is to know about batteries try these sites:

  • T60 battery issue

Hello, I have an issue about my T60 battery. The battery only charged/uncharged about 30 times, but its actual capacity is 27.52Wh and it is less then half of the design capacity. I use the laptop as usual and charge/uncharge normally.
    What is the cause?
    Thx.
Ps, bought the laptop 1 year ago.

  • Battery failure although my battery doesn't fit the exchange program?

    hello there!
i know there have been a lot of threads about the battery life and failures in the macbook pro but i don't know which one fits my case...
my mbp is a week 13 and has no problems at all. i don't use the battery that often - by now i have 14 cycles.
my battery's serial number doesn't fit the exchange program but today happened this odd thing:
i used my mbp on battery for less than two hours and the battery symbol said that i still have about 50 minutes of battery power. all of a sudden it turned off (as described in many other threads) without any warning and i couldn't turn it on without plugging in the power cable. when i turned it on it started from deep sleep mode (dimmed desktop).
...of course i did reset the pram and stuff - but what is going on? as i said i don't meet the exchange program for faulty batteries but still it doesn't seem to work proper.
    what can i do?
    thanks in advance, guys!
    j.

hi and thank you all for your replies so far!
over the weekend i took some screenshots showing the various total of mAh. i have no idea if that is normal like this? and the battery is behaving normal again, no random shutdown... you can find the images under the following link...
    http://www.propaganda-pixel.de/mbp/mbp.htm
in addition i added a photo of my magsafe... now that it comes to the battery issue i got slightly concerned if this crimpy cord should be like this (not that this thing starts to melt on me!).
when i transport my mbp i wind the cord around those two hooks and i never pull the magsyfe by the cord out. but still it looks like this.
the power cord is from a week 10 macbook pro which i got exchanged for a week 13 but i had to keep the cord...
i know, this has nothing to do with the battery issue and no, i'm not paranoid - just now that i started this thread i thought i could add it...
    so my questions are:
    - shall i request a new battery considering the various mAh indications?
    - shall i request a new power cord? or does mine look normal?
why i ask is because i don't want to request something when there is no need for a replacement.
    thank you all!

  • T60 Battery malfunction

    I bought a Thinkpad T60 notebook (type: 2007 D62, SN# L34G72L) in January 2007 in Hong Kong (Now, I am in Germany).
Yesterday, Oct. 24, 2008, the battery malfunctioned (FRU P/N 92P1137, ASM P/N 92P1138). The indicator light under the screen twinkled continuously. And the battery does not function at all.  The Power Manager shows: “A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.”
The battery was used rarely. Power Manager shows only 19 cycles.
Does someone know how to solve this problem?

  • T500 Battery Failure and Replacement Options

The battery on my T500 recently "failed due to normal wear" and will no longer hold any charge. It had over 1000 cycles in a little under two years of use, so I guess that's not to be unexpected. The failure happened suddenly though (went from 2 hrs of normal life to no charge overnight). I tried reseting the battery through power manager to no avail, so I'm looking for a replacement now.
I'm currently looking at a couple of options and wondering if anyone has experience with any of these:
Stock Lenovo (I assume it would be the most reliable, but also most expensive at $179)  http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...
C&K on Amazon (Claims to be genuine; $136) http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-40Y6797-Thinkpad-Standard/dp/B001TQ6VQ6/ref=sr_1_35?ie=UTF8&m=...
eComElectronics (Claims to be genuine, although some older reviews say it's non-OEM; $97) http://www.amazon.com/ThinkPad-SL-Cell-Li-Ion-Battery/dp/B000CBG0XI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Assortment of non-OEM batteries on Amazon ($25-$60) http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_26?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=lenovo+t50...
Do #2 and #3 seem fine?  Even though they aren't sold through Lenovo, would they still be eligible for the 1 year warranty?
What about the non-OEM's? Are the price savings not worth the hassle of getting a lemon and the compatibility warnings from the power manager?
    Thanks

if they are an official resellers then you can claim warranty from Lenovo, otherwise you would have to get the warranty through the retailers themselves.
Non-OEM quality can vary, since there are so many of them, it is hard to give you any sort of advice as to what you would expect.
But you could try the 6 cells Boston Power Battery, they have 3 years warranty, and priced competitively. They are the only non-OEM battery i would buy.

  • T60- Battery doesn't recognise universal charger

    Hi,
I bought a refurbished lenovo T60. It was fine the first few days. Battery was charging and so on.
    Then the charger/adapter  went bad.
I have a universal charger and I'm using it. The problem with it is that battery refuses to charge from it. If the charger is on,
the thinkadvantage power manager tries for a second, then changes battery display to "battery not installed". The T60 would run on power but won't charge the battery.
Only when the charger is switched off/pulled out, the laptop runs on battery. I get to see battery is running but it would drain battery.
    Please advise
    - Is the issue with not using lenovo charger.
    - Do I have to buy lenovo charger or is there any option by which the battery would get charged from "universal charger".
    Thanks
    Siddhartha Roy
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

non-lenovo chargers usually will charge the battery fine, but I've seen these cheap "knock-offs" get so hot that they catch on fire. I strongly suggest you get a real one. They aren't expensive. If you lived in usa I could get you one for less then $25 delivered to your door for 90watt, or $20 for 65watt. I imagine they are even cheaper in Asia, so check the costs on local websites or ebay. Good luck and make sure you verify them as genuine before you buy.

  • T60 battery AND HD woes? or

A few days ago I received a used T60 in what looks like very good condition. Plugged it into the 120 and proceeded to make some changes, replace the HD with a 320G, remove what I’ll call junk and updated Windows that took a couple hours without SP3. I heard that if it works = fix it. all worked surprisingly well with the battery health indicating 100%. I unplugged it to move to another room to test the wireless for less than ½ hour, plugged it back in with a charge of around 90% indicated and proceeded to DL some more wanted apps with the indicator going back to 100%. Shortly afterwards the built in battery indicator started flashing yellow with a message saying the battery is defective?? At 100%?? Nothing I did changed the indicator so stopped using it to get away from it. This AM powered up and got an error message ”cannot boot from any device”  ?? WTF. Put the original HD back in and got the same message. I then put a 8” dowel on the drives and heard a short motor wind up< 2 seconds, and what sounded like a short chattering then no sound at all.   Any ideas of what to do besides hoping the warranty is still in effect. Please help as the wife was going to take it on a trip for a week come Sunday.    TIA   Vic.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

well the question would be where did you get your laptop from???
also what do you mean when you say put a 8" dowel on the drive???
The battery warranty is 12 months, so most likely you battery are no longer protected by the warranty option. So you will have to purchase a new one from either Lenovo.com or some stores.
Regarding your HDD, if it is still within warranty (check here) then it will be replaced by Lenovo provided that the damage wasn't caused by you. Usually Lenovo will ship out the hdd to you, and you can replace it yourself, and return the defective drive to Lenovo through the same courier, but may vary depending on the warranty services that came with your laptop.
So basically, your wife's trip shouldn't be affected provided that you buy a new battery for her, you can get your hdd changed at any time within the warranty period.

  • Possible counterfeit T60 battery

I purchased a new battery for my T60 which looks like an original from the outside.
But the Lenovo powermanager shows as serial number "1" and as barcode number "XXXXXXXXXXX". That seems odd to me. The merchant insists that the battery is original and that he is a lenovo business partner.
Can this strange serial and barcode number happen with an original battery or is this the prove that it is a counterfeit ?

The OP writes that he purchased what looks like a genuine battery from a vendor who claims it's OEM and that he's a business partner. Yet Power Manager says otherwise.
    1. Is there some other way to determine conclusively that the battery really is genuine, e.g. some special software?
    2. How does a customer verify that a seller really is an authorized Lenovo Business Partner? Do we contact Lenovo in our country? Is there an online list somewhere that's available to the public?
    3. If the battery turns out to be a fake and/or the seller isn't a real BP, what recourse does the customer have?
I'm wondering if the OP might have an outdated version of power manager that doesn't recognise the firmware of a newly manufactured battery so displays this false data. I know fake batteries are widely available, especially for this model, but there is no way to tell from the info we have here. Seeing a screenshot from the advanced battery tab in the current version of power manager might be helpful, as would a photo of the battery.
