T60/T61: Which BIOS diagnostic card?

Hi,
which BIOS diagnostic card works in a T60 or T61? I've got a broken T60, which still beeps when RAM is removed, so
I guess the BIOS isn't corrupt. I've tried a miniPCIe card, but it doesn't display any POST code. Will a parallel port card
work, either on the Ultrabay Slim adapter or the port of a docking station or do I have to connec to the LPC bus directly to sniff port 80h accesses?
Thanks,
jal66

As far as I know, none work in the T60.
I use one of these on T61 and newer:

  • Creative Xfi soundcard and NForce4 chipset, which BIOS solves the problem?

    Hello,
I have the MSI K8N-Neo4 Platinum mobo. Is it possible to get the Xfi-card working without problems and which BIOS version do I need then?
A clear statement from MSI on this matter would be nice.

I just got my X-Fi today.  I was running BIOS 1.3 on my non-SLI board.  I knew what to expect and sure enough I wasn't disappointed - multiple unknown devices detected on the PCI bus.  I've always been happy with BIOS 1.3 and had no reason to flash until today.  I went ahead and flashed to 1.9, and my multiple devices magically turned into one
However (there just has to be a however), my pc now hangs on shutdown.  I'm not too bothered by this - I'm confident I'll find the cause and solution, if not on this forum then somewhere out there in the techno-geek community

  • Thinkpad T60/T61 Serial/parallel adapter kgdb support

    Hi,
Does anyone know if the thinkpad T60/T61 serial/parallel bay adapter
40Y8121 supports kgdb ? It must be able to run even if the system crashes with
just the default minimal kernel serial driver.
    Regards,
    Sanjeev.

I know several people who use this adapter for programming industrial robots or specialised measuring instruments which require a native serial port, all reports are 100% AOK

  • Bios diagnostic failed

My friend has a Compaq Presario CQ61 that is using Vista that is blue screen with no OS boot-up. I can get to the system recovery option, but do not want to unnecessarily risk her pictures, letters from travel which have no copies (very precious to her). Will data remain if I perform system recovery? Also in Bios "diagnostic" the memory passed, but hard disk test continually failed to complete (started then froze). Also was unable to get data out with usb connection to another computer (wasn't sure if would work without powerup anyway). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
If the Hard Drive test fails to complete, this is usually a sign that the drive itself is failing.  A system recovery peforms a quick format of the C partition and would make retrieving files far more difficult - also, if it is the case that the HDD is failing, a system recovery would probably not complete successfully anyway.
Before anything else, try the following to see if you can back-up the files on the HDD.
One possible way to try and retrieve your files from a non-booting drive is to follow the process detailed in the link below.  The Ubuntu operating system CD you create can run from the CD alone ( ie it doesn't have to install on the Hard Drive ) and I've often found it to be successful in retrieving data even from a failing Hard Drive.  When you've created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can back up your friends existing files.

You have to use a card that is registered to a physical address in India, so if none of your debit or credit cards is registered to an address in India, it will not work.
if the card is registered there, and payment is decline, you should check with your bank or with iTunes Store support.

  • Which BIOS for Corsair 3200XLPT??

Hi guys, is there anyone using the Corsair PC3200XLPT here, I really like to know which BIOS is the most stable with these ram?? Right now I'm using Bios 1.52 but somehow I'd always got BSOD with these ram installed, all running at SPD, but even at lower timing 2-3-7-3, these ram still gave me troubles. And now my WinXP became corrupt . . .  .
Any clue please ??? or perhaps I've to rma these ram??

There is a real difference between Corsair XL and C2 memory:
    http://www.corsairmicro.com/corsair/xms.html
The XL should run at 2-2-2-5 1T at stock memory frequencies and even a bit beyond. I'd set the memory to those specs and run memtest86 for an extended period to make sure the hardware was working as it should be before doing anything else. If this generates errors then you definitely have a hardware problem but it may not be your memory. See Tiresmoke's excellent sticky above.
And whatever you do, don't even thing about changing the BIOS until you have a stable hardware platform and are running XP with absolutely no major problems.

  • Which PCI SATA card for B&W G3?

I just picked up a 400GB Seagate SATA drive and I would like to install it into my B&W G3. Does anyone have any recommendations on which SATA PCI card to buy? I have found prices from $22 to over $100. Most of those on the low end when you look at the specs always reference the minimum requirements for a PC, but nothing for a Mac.
If the card is PCI compliant, shouldn't it just be plug and play?

SIIG's SC-MP4A12 UltraATA 133/100 Pro is what I went with - should retail about 65-100$. Be careful with lower priced models as the bus speed may be lower (in my head, this being the speed at which data is transfered through the harddrive into the system and back. Slower might be OK but there's little point in getting a drive that you are at pains to get info to and from. And the card MUST be mac compatible - no it isn't just plug and play (I learned that the hard way assuming a Belkin would be since they make so much mac stuff). Others to look for include ACard. Also keep in mind there are serial ATA and ultra ATA cards - get a drive that matches the card and vice versa.
So far the SIIG card works but I'm having some hiccups and kernal panics (probably an addressing issue - it takes a bit longer to start up the computer as it looks for the OS across all the drives and something might be mismatched by me right now). Also, leave your OS-based drive attached/connected to the motherboard connection (though you can have back up startup disks attached to the IDE controller - that's another name for the card, right) since it looks there first on start-up it appears. Hope that helps.

  • Which BIOS shall I use for " K8T Neo -FSR"??

I bought  a MSI K8T Neo- FSR board yesterday. But when I looked at the MSI web site I haven't seen ...FSR board, I only see ...FS2R board instead. So which BIOS shall I download and flash? There is also no any explanation about FSR. My board carries the BIOS V1.1. On the other hand it writes this informatin on the board; " K8t Neo 6702 rev. 1.0"

...here's the product page...I found it the other day but I can't remember how   ...got lucky, I guess...
...BIOS version?..I've always used Live Update in Windows...just follow the directions to the letter...there are beta versions available in the forums...the current one is getting good reviews...

  • Which bios to DL? Is my board a Diamond or not?

My box says I have a Neo4 Plat. SLI.   The board says Diamond on it, and has dual LANS....but does not have the extra fan.
Anyway I can tell which board this is?  I'm wondering which bios to DL......seeing as how there are two different ones, one for the Diamond and one for the Plat.
This is what it looks like......except for the "DIAMOND" printed in the blank space below and to the right of the MSI.

Well, I seem to have found the answer (I hope).  It seems my K8N Diamond board came from the factory with the W7100NMS V3.0  12/31/04 11:29:55 BIOS.  So it has the K8N Neo4 Platinum /SLI BIOS from the factory.

  • T61, T60 - BSOD for Intel WiFi cards, Middleton BIOS, & Win 8.1 & 10

This is an "all-in-one" post. Recently, my trusty T61p started getting Blue Screens of Death (BSOD) with the following message:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL in sysnetwlv64.sys This has been frequently reported as a complication of Windows 8.1 (only) when installing the Intel drivers for the 3945 and 4965 WiFi cards.  Both Intel and Microsoft state that these cards, plus the 5200 are no longer supported, but the 6200, 6300, etc. are. Suggested remedies are:
    1. For the T61's, reflash with the Middleton BIOS (2.29 plus mods - no white list, SATA 2 works).  Then install a more recent WiFi card that has supported drivers for Win 8.1.
    2. Change cards in both the T60 and T61s to the IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter 42T0825 (this is an Atheros AR5008 5418 AR5BXB72). In recent posts I have seen about Win 10, the old Intel drivers that used to work for Win 8.0 (but didn't in 8.1) appear to work in Win 10.  (However, since it is still before July 29, I can only assume this is in preview versions, not RTM).  If anyone has actually in installed the Win 10 RTM and had no problems, this whole thing may be a "non-issue".  Is there any experience with this? If I follow the remedies suggested above:
    1. Using the replace the card approach with the Middleton BIOS, what is a good card to get?  The other benefit of the Middleton BIOS is to allow the harddrives in the T-61's as SATA 2 instead of the dumbed-down SATA 1 as in the stock 2.29, 2.30 BIOS
    2. If I follow the replace with the Atheros cards, I assume the best approach is to see if there are 3 antennas in the T60 (the T61's already have them).  If not, I understand that I can add the 3rd antenna with FRU 42R9909. For specific machine configurations, see the specs at the bottom (they're all "FrankenPads"). Many thanks for looking and your comments... --------------------------------------T-61p -- 15.4" WXSGA+, Win 8.1 64-bit, BIOS 2.30, CPU-T9500 2.6 GHz (Penryn), RAM 8GB DDR2-667 (2x4GB), HD 500GB (7200RPM, SATA 2, WD5000BPKT-00PK4T0), NVIDIA Quadro F570FM (1680x1050 - 9.18.13.2702), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 4965 (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel 82566MM (9.13.41.3), Ricoh Media Cardbus (6.3.9600.16384), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047) T-61 -- 14.1" WXGA+, Win 8.1 64-bit, BIOS 2.30, CPU-T7800 2.6 GHz (Merom), RAM 8GB DDR2-667 (2x4GB), HD 320GB (7200RPM, SATA 3, WD3200BEKX-22B7W4T0), NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (1440x900 - 9.18.13.2702), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 4965 (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel 82566MM (9.13.41.3), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047) T-60 -- 14.1" XGA, Win 8.1 32-bit, BIOS 2.27, TPM 1.2, CPU-T7600 2.3 GHz (Merom), RAM 3GB usable DDR2-667 (2x2GB), HD 320GB (7200RPM, SATA 2, WD3200BEKT-00PVM4T0), Intel Graphics 945 Express (1024x768 - 8.15.10.2697), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 3945ABG (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel PRO/1000PL (9.15.11.0), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047)

    Welcome to the forum!
At the bottom of the very same page that houses the current BIOS are older versions available and you can downgrade to the one of your choice.
    Hope this helps.
