T60; Touchpad disabled; No "Touchpad" option on BIOS

dear community members,
since I restaged XP, my touchpad isn't working and is permanently disabled. Symptoms are:
a) On ThinkPad Configuration utility, the TouchPad item is grayed and can't be checked
b) when Fn+F8, three options appears: (1) Enable trackpoing and touchpad (2) Enable trackpoint only (3) Enable touchpad only. Even when I choose option (1), the touchpad isn't enabled
c) when launching UltraNav wizard, message is: "Touchpad is disabled from BIOS. Please enable it from BIOS or the ThinkPad configuration utility"
d) on the BIOS utility, there is no option for Touchpad under Config/Keyboard Mouse
BIOS was updated today
Trackpoint works OK
UltraNav shows Touchpad disabled (grayed)
Device manager doesn't shows any error.
Can someone understand what is happening ?

  • Option to disable UltraNav (touchpad + trackpoint) when external mouse is connected

I grabbed the 5/2011 drivers for UltraNav from the Lenovo site and it appears that an option 'to disable the integrated pointing devices when an external pointing device is present' does not exist, or at the very least I can't easily find it.  Please please please please tell me I'm simply being dense and this behavior is very easy to enable.
Seriously, the 5-year old Dell drivers I had with my old machine did that, and this is driving me BONKERS.
Alternatively, if what I'm doing here is feature-requesting, I'd be like 50% there if I could Fn+F8 and have an option to kill both the touchpad and the trackpoint - alas, I can disable 1 or the other BUT NOT BOTH WITH THAT OPTION.  Can I really not disable both?
    Lenovo W520, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Even though it passed some time from first post I'm writing a solution for auto disabling UltraNav touchpad and trackpoint when external mouse is connected.
I have Lenovo L530 that doesn't have shortcut on keyboard to disable Elantech touchpad so after a driver update (from about 20 March 2013) I tried to find a solution again -now with success.
To auto disable touchpad when external mouse is connected you have to set value in registry editor here is procedure (for Windows 7 procedure for other Windows editions is similar or same):
Click Windows type in regedit and run it.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\OtherSetting. (If you can't find Elantech\OtherSetting in HKEY_CURRENT_USER navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Elantech\OtherSetting.)
Find DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse double click it and change value (from 0) to 1, hit OK.
(If you don't have DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse in Elantech\OtherSetting create new DWORD with name DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse and set value to 1.)
    Restart computer.
I hope someone still find this helpful.

  • Disabling the touchpad in OSX version 10.5.6?

    Hi All,
Is it possible to completely disable the touchpad in 10.5.6? I want to know if this is possible to do even if I do not have an external mouse connected. With the new trackpad menu they seem to have removed many options. Thanks.

I just had to figure this problem out myself; my trackpad button is stuck in the "clicked" position, and my iPhone's AirMouse app doesn't seem to trigger the "ignore trackpad when mouse is present" setting.
I found this great hack. Go to the Universal Access preference pane. On the "Mouse & Trackpad" tab, enable these two checkboxes:
    1. "Press the Option key five times to turn Mouse Keys on or off"
    2. "Ignore trackpad when Mouse Keys is on"
Now, if you want to disable the trackpad, just press Option five times. (You can still move the mouse around with the numeric keypad - Fn-2 moves down, Fn-8 moves up, Fn-5 clicks, etc.)
I'm using this successfully right now on a 17" mid-2007 (Santa Rosa) MacBook Pro.

  • Synaptics Touchpad -unable to disabled via touchpad upper left corner

I upgraded my HP dv6 from Win7 to Win8.1 Pro, 64 bit and now can't disable the touchpad by double tapping the upper lefthand corner of the pad. I tried editing the device properties in the Control Panel/Mouse?device Settings area, and the Tapping option.  The setting is already set to disable the device with a double-tap, but no matter how hard or light I do the double-tap, it is not disabling the touchpad.
Any direction on fixing this is appreciated!

  • Disabling Thinkpad Touchpad on Resume

    Hello all,
I have a ThinkPad Laptop, and I use the little red nubbin exclusively. I don't like to have the touchpad enabled because I constantly brush it with my wrist, but I don't like disabling it in the BIOS because I semi-regularly have other people using my computer.
    I keep it disabled with
xinput --set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Device Enabled" 0
I have it in my .xinitrc, and when I first boot up its properly disabled. However, when I suspend and resume, the touchpad is enabled again. I tried to use a pm hook in /etc/pm/sleep.d but the script doesn't seem to be able to connect to my X server.
Is there some setting I can tweek or hook I can run that'll keep my touchpad disabled on resume?

set the display variable in your script, i.e.
    export DISPLAY=":0.0"
maybe it's also necessary to run xinput with your username, i.e.
    su -c - $YOUR_USERNAME "xinput ...."

  • How do I permanently disable the touchpad on Probook 4525s?

How do I permanently disable the touchpad on Probook 4525s?  I can uninstall the driver in Control Panel, but on the next boot, it's back on again.  I use a usb mouse and the touchpad is simply in the way when I'm typing.

    Hi PoohBear!
There are a couple of options depending on your OS and your TouchPad version.
The very best option, should it be available to you is the following:
Newer Drivers (at least the V16.x) have the ability to turn off the TouchPad / Click pad with a setting on the main "Settings" page when a USB mouse is being used.  This is a very nice feature.
Control Panel > icon view > Mouse > TouchPad [ClickPad] Settings >
CHECK "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached"
If you would like to be notified and see a visual cue of the disablement >
CHECK "Animated tray icon in Taskbar" >
and make sure you have your Taskbar notifications set so you can actually see the Mouse notice.
    =====================================================
Here is a 16.2.X TouchPad driver for the ProBook series - It may work on your notebook:
    sp58647 Synpatics V.16.2.10.12
    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
An Alternate method that may work with an older driver should the better option not be available:
Control Panel > icon view > Mouse > TouchPad [ClickPad] Settings >
(repeat) TouchPad Settings (button) > Click-on Tapping >
    Click on Spikey Blue Wheel
    At "TouchPad Disable Zone Settings"
CHECK "Double Tap to Enable / Disable TouchPad"
    At "Top Left Action"
    CHECK "Switch the TouchPad OFF"
    Close
     OK
NOTE If this alternate option is available, it is fine, unless something goes awry.  You could get stuck without your USB mouse AND without a means to get back into the setting to switch on the TouchPad.  I do not know whether I would use this setting.
    ===================================================================================
    I hope this helps!
    Kind Regards,

  • Disabling Ultranav TouchPad keeping TrackPoint

I have a Ultranav keyboard and I want to disable the Touchpad but keep the Trackpoint.  I'm using the latest driver (noted below), but it doesn't have an Ultranav tab in the Control Panel.  I've searched the net and can't find any real solution.  Has anyone tried physically disconnecting the Touchpad?  Is so, some tips on doing that without destroying the keyboard would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

  • K3011w - How disable the touchpad when using USB mouse?

Is there a way to disable the touchpad on the docking keybd when using a USB mouse? It is a real pain typing along and be in the middle of sentence some where else on the page.

    hi whippetguy,
    Thanks for Posting,
The touchpad on the dock uses a Windows driver and does not have any special Software to Disable it via shortcut,
How I found to go around on what you need is
With the tablet on the dock with no USB mouse yet
Press (Windows key+x) and choose device manager on the list
On Device Manager window open mice and pointing device and rightclick disable
This should disable the dock touchpad and Now you can plu in your USB mouse,
Before you unplu your USB mouse after use, Go to device manager again and Enable the device you disabled.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • How can I stop the Thinkpad Yoga 14 from disabling the touchpad and keyboard?

My dad got a Thinkpad Yoga 14 about a month ago and he usually uses his laptop at a 90 degree angle in bed. So when he is on his side, the laptop is on it's side as well. When he does that with the Thinkpad Yoga, the touchpad and the keyboard are disabled and he cannot use the laptop like he wants to. I think because it's a setting to not accidentally touch the keyboard or mouse when using it in tablet mode.
I cannot find any setting on how to stop Windows from disabling the touchpad and keyboard on rotate. I've turned off auto-rotate but can't see anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • V570 - Is there a shortcut key to disable the Touchpad?

V570 - Is there a shortcut key to disable the Touchpad?  Not a solid typist and i continually hit the pad which messes up my typing.  Would like to shut it off but be able to turn back on quickly.  Thanks!!

I had this same problem and the F6 function key did not work. I also could not manually disable the touchpad via Device Manager. I reinstalled the touchpad driver and am now able to use F6 to disable, though I still cannot via Device Manager. I installed the Synaptics PS/2 driver for Lenovo V570c onto my V570 and it works.
