T60 Wireless drops out randomly

Hi,
We have several Lenovo T60 Thinkpads in our company. Every now and then the wireless disconnects and users are limited to work locally. As we have all our documents on a server that is very annoying to our users.
As far as I could investigate the problem there is no specific reason linking to when the connection get lost.
The only indicator is that the little green wireless symbol next to the bluetooth symbol is not activate any more.
If I check in the hardware device manager the wireless is on. Switiching it to off and again to on does not work. I also deactiviate that Windows might turn the power of to save energy.
The only solution thats works to bring back the wireless device to run so far is to restart the computer.
We have a Draytek vigor Router but as other users with different laptops dont face the same problem i would limit it to the T60 series.
Anyone facing the same problem?Any suggestions?

have you tried moving the hub as far from the pc as possible in case there is interference from the pc/power supply.
have you tried a new filter and if possible a different router - even borrowed just to try it.  it is not impossible that there is a problem with the hub but need to try other things first

  • Wireless drop outs: draytek vigor 2600: macbook pro: channel 6

    Hi all
Thought I'd drop this is, as it may help others??
I've been having real problems with unstable wireless drop outs, it's been driving me barmy!
I've been using a draytek vigor 2600 plus, when connected via ethernet, it's brilliant, use wireless and it *****, with drop outs every minute or so, and when it does connect the strength is shocking even though my router is above me, about 6 foot!
I used www.istumbler.net/ and found that my next door neighbour has his router on channel 6... same as mine, since this I've changed to channel 12 and now signal strength is full (on the airport logo) and haven't had a drop out for hours...
I'll post again if the status changes, but give it a try if you are having problems similar...
    hope this helps.
    Az

I have been having the same issue for the last two weeks. No real indication as to why it ever began other than I had turned off my router and Airport Extreme Base Station off for a weekend while I was away from my place.
iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, all have no issues at all with my Airport Extreme Base Station. Can stay connected throughout my living room, bathroom, bedroom, no issues whatsoever.
My 5 month old MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Core i7 Airport is sometimes perfect, able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue. Then, for no reason, I won't be able to join my wireless network, or when I can join, I can't pick up an IP address. And then it will connect, pick up and IP, and then it won't browse. No real rhyme or reason to when this will happen, or when it works.
I thought that it was an issue with my MacBook Pro, but then my sister visited with her brand new MacBook Pro 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo, and while a month ago she was able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue, this weekend she had all of the same issues I was having.
My XBOX 360 and MacBook Pro have absolutely no issues with the wired connection. Only my WAN seems to have this issue.
Did you ever find anything more to this?

  • Why Apple isn't acknowledging the wireless drop out problem on iMacs?

    Hey everyone
I've been having constant wireless drop out on my iMac while all other computers at home work perfectly.
I've noticed I am not the only one who is having this problem and it seems to be a software/ upgrade problem that Apple needs to get fixed.
Anyone knows any progress on this topic?

Unfortunately you simply can't say that this is a general problem. Or, rather, you can, but you won't be taken seriously. Some of us (me, for example) have several Macs, including several iMacs, and simply do not see your problem with any of them. It may be a problem linked to the specific model. It may be a problem linked to a specific batch. It may be a problem linked to specific 3rd-party software. It may be linked to any of several other mutually incompatible factors. What it definitely is NOT is a general problem.
Those who have it need to provide further data _to Apple_ using the feedback system so that the actual cause of the problem can be identified and a fixe set up.
Insisting that it is a general problem when it quite clearly is not will tend to get you ignored.
Which precise model of iMac are you using? There are several different 24" Intel iMacs; which one is yours? When was it built? Where was it built? (You can tell this by looking at the serial number.) Are you running any 3rd-party haxies? What stuff are you running? Does any of it launch at startup? What make and model wireless router are you connecting to? How are you connecting to it, using 'G' or 'N'? Is your connection encrypted, and if so, using WEP (bad) or WPA (better)? Are you broadcasting SSID? How close are you to the wireless device? Is there something in the way, such as a wall or a floor? What are the walls/floor made of? Are you using other devices which access the same general radio band (you do know that wireless systems are radios, don't you?) such as wireless landline phones, or microwaves, or some cell phones, or baby monitors? Are there other wireless systems in your immediate neighborhood, and what channels are they broadcasting on? What channel is your wireless router broadcasting on?
Are you beginning to see the number of possible reasons for your problem?

  • HH3 wireless drop outs

Hi have had Infinity for some 6 months and quite happy would like the NAT loop back in the HH3 but the problem I have now is both my wireless printer and Wii will not keep connected, I have to turn the printer of and back on every time I want to print Not much point having a wireless for the whole house. and the Wii box needs me to log into the HH3 page and to delete the Wii in the network devices so that it can re-connect.
I read on here that some people have a Type B router is this just a software update or do I need a replacement router???
I have to say I have had issue since changing from BeThere with the printer as on there router it stayed on line all the time but now it is every time and the Wii box now doing this suggest that it is breaking down.
One further point when we have more than 4 items on wireless in the house at any one time the wireless drops out lots of time and then takes some time to even show up it is as if the wireless chip is restarting, a wired connection is fine.
Any advice or help would be great.
Thanks and Happy New Year to you all.

If you have tried all you can to improve the wireless connectivity then have a look at THIS THREAD as there are a couple of routes in it you could consider.

  • Airport drops out randomly

    Hello..
Am trying to get to the bottom of why my airport drops out at random times roughly once every hour. I then just need to select my router again and it reconnects.
This isn't a massive dilemma unless i'm downloading a large file - can't leave it over night to download.
Is more of a gripe than a complaint - is just annoying when it happens.
    Any ideas?

I have a 2 week old MacBook and am experiencing the exact same problem. I can make it happen more frequently by downloading a large file (220mb) from the 'net. Still have not been able to retrieve that file. If anyone knows what the **** is going on-please let me know -> [email protected]
I may try adjusting (or fixing) the transmission channel of the router as I have several other wireless networks in the immediate vicinity. But the fact that I can make it drop by trying to pull down a large file speaks to other problems.
One thing - in my widgets I have the iStat window running that displays numerous operating data. It is interesting the temperature of the Airport Card - according to the window- is running 142 - 151 degrees, much much warmer than all the other components WHEN I try to download the big file. ANd the conneciton was dropped when the temp exceeded 151 degrees.
As I type this the temperature has dropped to 130 degrees.
Is anyone else running the iStat widget and seeing the same thing.

  • Sustain pedal drops out randomly

During playback on a piano track the sustained note drops out in a few parts of the song. I have checked the sustain curve and there is no drop in it, what could be the problem? Any settings I need to be aware of?

Add me to the list of infuriated fanboys. This is exactly the same problem that AirTunes had and I've made dozens of attempts over the past five years to resolve this issue.
I was was so excited when I discovered that I could use AirPlay, and send the music directly from my iPhone. Having already had such a good experience with watching movies, I thought the days of anger and frustration over what should be a simple fix were over... But alas, we are forced to continue to suffer with this problem.
What I cannot understand, is how a 90 minute movie with 5 channel surround sound can play almost flawlessly, but I can't listen to a song with out having it drop out with random interruptions.
My MacBook Pro, iPhone, Airport Extreme, and AppleTV are all within a eight foot radius of each other, and all within direct line of sight. Absolutely should not be a problem.
Really Steve, you need to get this fixed.

  • Left speaker drops out randomly in iTunes 7

First problem I have had with iTunes.
After installing v7 my left speaker randomly drops out. Stopping/starting the song again or going to a new song clears it up... but it randomly happens over and over.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Anyone have any ideas? I know I can choose to have 5
upcoming songs listed, but that interferes with the
songs I drag over because the 5 randomly selected
songs get played before whatever I've dragged to the
    playlist.
You can always drag the songs you've chose ahead of the 5 randomly chosen ones. I use Party Shuffle a lot. Part of the time, I let iTunes select randomly, but as I feel a yen to hear a particular song or group of songs, I highlight them, control- click and select Play Next in Party Shuffle. And sometimes, I just want to rearrange the list. Just highlight and drag up or down.

  • [SOLVED] Wireless drops out

    Hey there,
I have been getting weird problems with my wireless dropping in and out every say 30 secs. I recently did a global update so I am thinking something may have broken.
I also use wicd to manage my wireless connection. Also there is no problem with the wireless itself as another person using the connection is having no problem at all.
Anyone got any ideas on the matter?

Oh wow, is that a coincidence. My thread in this forum that says Samba disconnects my wifi, I use the same wifi driver, and also use Wicd, and when I try to connect to a Samba share, my wifi starts disconnecting and reconnecting every 10-20 seconds. These problems sound related IMO.

  • E4200 - wireless drops out

I am disappointed with the Linksys E4200 and E2500. Both had wireless issues with it dropping out. The Cisco connect was a nice feature, but the problems started when it wanted to update. I have gone back to the tried and true WRT54GL. I recommend that people should wait a year till Cisco fixes the problems.

The performance of your new router depends on various factors apart from the router itself. The wireless devices in your network, are they wireless G or wireless N devices? If they're wireless G devices, you won't really see any difference, and in fact any N devices in your network would also suffer because of that. Apart from that, placement of the router also matters.
Avoid keeping the router in a corner or under the table or something like that. Ideally you'd want to keep it at a higher location. The signal always travels better from a higher location to a lower location. Apart from this, you can also change channels on the router. Typically, wireless interference can cause poor signal strength and speed. Changing channels helps alleviate this problem to some extent. I'd suggest trying channels 1, 3, 6 or 9. You'll have to try each and observe which channel gives you the best performance. Every network environment is different, so what works for one network may not necessarily work for another. Please let me know if you need any further help with this.

  • Audio Drops Out Randomly

I'm having a problem where audio randomly drops out during playback of videos in the viewer.  I'll be watching a video clip, and then out of nowhere the audio will just stop.  Sometimes if I click stop and play again, the audio returns.  Sometimes the audio never comes back until I restart the program even if I change video clips.  I never have this problem when viewing sequences though.  It only happens when I'm previewing clips before adding them to my sequence so when it gets really bad I end up adding all the potential video clips to the sequence before trimming and arranging them just so I can hear the sound.
This consistently happens to me on my Macbook Pro and my Windows 8 PC both running the most up-to-date version of Premiere Pro CS6.  All of the video content I'm working with is in AVCHD format.  The Macbook is a 2008 pre-unibody model with OS 10.8, 4 GB RAM, a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz processor, and an NVidia 128 MB video card.  The PC is running Windows 8 with 16 GB RAM, a 2 GB video card, and an Intel I7 processor with 3.4 GHz.

In the Premiere Pro help file it states:
    Conforming audio
Premiere Pro processes each audio channel, including audio channels in video clips, as 32-bit floating-point data at the sequence sample rate. This processing assures maximum editing performance and audio quality. Premiere Pro conforms certain types of audio to match the 32-bit format and the sequence sample rate. If conforming is required, it is done when a file is imported into a project for the first time. Conforming takes some time and disk space. A progress bar appears at the lower right of the Premiere Pro window when conforming begins. Premiere Pro saves conformed audio in CFA audio preview files. You can determine where to save these audio preview files by specifying a Scratch Disk location for Audio Previews in the Project Settings dialog box.
You can work with audio files, even applying effects to them, before they are fully conformed. However, you can preview only the parts of the files that have been conformed. You cannot hear unconformed sections on playback.
These rules determine which types of audio get conformed:

It doesn't hurt to look at the Prmiere Pro help files once in a while to learn various processes, etc.

  • My audio drops out randomly, hers is occasionally ...

For the past year I have frequently used Skype on my Android phone (Nexus 5) to talk to my fiancee on her Windows 8.1 laptop. We do so from our respective homes, so we're both on WiFi to a solid Internet connection (DSL in my case, cable Internet in hers). I'm using the latest Android Skype client (5.0.0.55107) and she's using the latest Windows 8.1 Skype client (6.21.0.104). Ever since the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update, my audio keeps dropping on her end for no apparent reason.
This happens at random but frequent intervals and for short durations (ca. 30 seconds per episode). It is absolutely maddening. Even though she hasn't changed anything on her Windows 8.1 laptop, and I've reinstalled Skype on my Nexus 5, my audio drops out some of the time during every single call. This happens very often during a call. It's to the point that I can't even open my mouth without expecting that my audio will drop out in the middle of what I'm saying, so that I end up having to repeat myself. If I'm really frustrated, I'll just type what I was going to say.
On the first few calls after my Nexus 5 received the Lollipop update, her audio would also sometimes drop out. We had to hang up and reestablish the call for her audio to come back on my end. Since then, we haven't had that particular problem, but sometimes her voice is garbled - as if I'm only hearing every other syllable - even though she's speaking directly at the microphone. Both systems (phone and laptop) are up to date, latest drivers, latest Skype, etc.
Given that she hasn't changed anything at all on her end, it's rather clear that the latest Skype for Android has a problem. TL;DR: I appear to be "muted" to other caller at random, even though I'm not muting myself, and her voice is occasionally garbled. It happens over and over again during a call, without warning.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunately, although my audio is no longer dropping out, we have been unable to use Skype for the last couple of days.
Last night, I could neither receive nor make Skype calls using my phone.  If she called, it would only ring on my desktop PC.  If I called her, it never rang on her end, and would either ring once or not at all (i.e. the sound effect I normally hear when calling didn't play) and would simply "fail" for no apparent reason.
Skype on my laptop doesn't work well, because there is almost always a problem with my audio being replaced with a "white noise" type sound on her end at random intervals and durations.
So, we had to use Google Hangouts video chat last night.  It doesn't work that well either; frequently, there is an absolutely terrible audio feedback/echo problem.
I hope Skype can be made to work again on my phone.  I've given up hope of it ever working 100% on my laptop, but I'd rather use it on my phone anyway, as it's far more portable.

  • Wireless dropping out to new TV

We have just bought a Sony Bravia Smart TV. It has built in wi-fi and connects without a problem. The problem is it drops out after about 30 to 40 minutes. We have a BT home hub 2.0 which is wired to the BT line and wired to the home PC. I've tried it with the computer left on and  the computer off and it makes no difference. What is really annoying is that it totally disconnects the hub and we lose the BB connection all together. It still shows all the lights on the hub but you have to run the diagnostic or restart the hub to get an internet connection again. If we do that and get the connection back and try the wi-fi to the TV again it just drops out straight away and we have to re-start the hub all over again. The hub is in the back bedroom which is about 10 feet directly above the TV so I dont think it's interference and our phones and tablet connect fine although we obviously don't stay on them so long. We have the free trial with Netflix and have tried watching a film which took 2 days and 3 connections to see - frustrating.
Any help or thoughts would be most welcome.  Thank you.

What sort of speeds do you get with your broadband. Presumably you are on ADSL as you are still using a HH2.
    Use this speed tester.
    http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
Wireless is prone to interference and drop outs if the signal is weak. Streaming video is usually best using an Ethernet connection or if not possible, using powerline adaptors.
If you have a wireless enabled computer you could download, install and run inSSider. It will show you the wireless channels and which one your Homehub is on. You want to find the channel with the least congestion, ie. least number of users. Once you have that you need to change your homehub onto that channel. This may improve the signal to the TV.

  • Wireless Dropping out

    Hello.
It does seem like a usual post here, but my wireless connection constantly drops out.
However, it is only when there is a download.
I gather that I'll probably get a "try changing the channel as you're dropping out due to interference" response, however, I would like to understand why this is only happening during downloads.
    Issue and Situation
Upon attempting downloads (software patches, game patches, software download, etc), I lose my connection to the wireless 3-4 minutes after the download.
If I do not download, I never lose my connection.
The wireless will not let me connect back to it, unless I reset the router.
The wireless is in the room above me. It's a BT Home Hub v2.
If I put my computer right next to the router, I do not lose my connection to the wireless during download (hence it must be a frequency issue).
I have never had the issue in the past 7 months, it only suddenly happened 2 weeks ago.
As I said, I want to know why , especially why it won't let me connect back to it, as I gather I'm going to have to change the router frequency. (On a side note, given I have 7 BT wireless, 1 BTFON, 1BTOpenzone, and 3 Sky routers in range, what frequency would be best?)

you can try downloading inssider2 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.
this takes the guesswork out of channel selection

  • Wireless dropping out - a bit disgruntled with BT.

    Hi,
I had a problem with my BT Home Hub 2. The wireless connection regularly drops out to all the wire;ess devices in the house. (3 x laptops) and there is nothing that seems to be in common when it decides to fail and it doesn't come back online unless I restart the hub.
The BB connection to the exchange is okay and fast, our BT Vision Youview box has no issues and when the wireless drops I can still connect using a LAN ethernet cable. The hub is plugged into the main socket.
inSSIDer shows that the wireless signal disappears when it drops out
I have a spare non-BT wireless router and that works fine without dropping out but of course BT Vision does not work throgh that.
I have changed the filter. The hub is plugged directly into the main socket (I have no extensions) and I have tried different wireless channels. Our small bungalow is isolated and there are two other wireless signals just receivable from my house from an nearby school. One is on channel 1, the other on 11. I use channel 6. When the wireless is working we get a full strength signal throughout the property.
I contacted BT through chat regarding this issue and they first of all tried to sell me a wireless extender. I said not to bother because my contract is up soon and I'll just swap to either Sky or TalkTalk and I'll get a new hub. This was the reaction:
"Soumik Majumdar: I have gone ahead and replaced the hub  for you. You were using a hub 2. Now you will be receiving your brand new hub 3  within next 3-4 business working days. Please wait for the hub to reach you."
Yesterday I received a refurbished Hub 2 not the new Hub 3 they promised. And guess what, it doesn't work as well as the old one. I have had to restart it six times in the last day to get the wireless back, which is worse that the old hub.
I guess I'll just changed providers so I get a new hub.
    Thoughts anyone please?
    Thanks,
    Leinorackham

I believe the HH2 does have a known problem with the wireless becoming problematic through time. I know you have already done this but the best thing is to contact BT and ask them for another replacement and preferably a HH3.

  • PDA ADHOC ETHERNET WIRELESS DROPS OUT

I'm utilizing an AD-HOC computer to computer wireless Ethernet connection between my laptop and my PDA to transfer data between my laptop and PDA.
The LabVIEW application on the PDA runs great once I have a good wireless Ethernet radio connection! However, I am having continuous trouble with the wireless Ethernet radio connection. It can take minutes to finally establish connection at times, sometimes it won't connect for hours, sometimes it will connect immediately. The signal strength meter on the PDA will go from good to best to good to dropping out entirely. Some days it works great, connects quickly, and stays connected. Some days it hardly connects at all. It all appears only to happen in my work environment, which includes being in a building and also outside on a test track. I tried the system at home over a recent 4 day holiday. The system connected immediately, and stayed connected every time for the entire four days. I would shutdown and re-connect from time to time. Every time the response was excellent.
I'm thinking that I may be having some type of radio interference problem at work. I've tried 9 different broadcast frequencies to no avail. Is there a way of increasing the signal strength of the radio frequency being transmitted from the PDA? Something I'm missing?
The Dell Axim 51V PDA is running windows mobile with the latest bios upgrade. The latest bios version hasn't offered any soultion.   I also have the same issues with a  Dell Axim 3.1 PDA running pocket PC 2003.

You don't say which WIFI you are using but the following is applicable to 54g and the older standard.
This is the nature of WIFI but you can improve matters.... If someone has one of those television transmitters that uses WIFI 2.4Ghz you are probably shot although I can report that the XBOX 360 controllers seem to exist very happily....
Set the data rate as low as possible to support the application and also set the Fragment Threshold and RTS thresholds lower (750 from 2500).
You may also find it helpfull to turn of auto channel hopping and fix the channel as well as turning off features such as pre-amble length detection and if there is a roaming decision parameter adjust it for distance rather than throughput. Turn it off if you can.
I also found that fixing IP addresses routes etc. seems to help as well and it seems more tolerant of drop outs as a result.
This is generally in the configuration parameters for the hardware.
This will need to be done at both ends.... I suspect however that an access point would be better as the antenna location will or should be optimised That's one reason why people use them. In an industrial context the best I have seen to date is the CISCO stuff but it costs....
