T60 wireless - OK on XP, drops out on Windows 7

Hello,
I have a T60 (2007-FVG) and I have a HDD for it with XP on and one with Windows 7 Ultimate on.  On XP the wireless is fine in my living room whereas on Win7 the wireless drops out every time I go into my living room.  I also have an R61 laptop with Windows 7 on and this is also fine, in fact when I have the T60 and the R61 side by side the R61's connection is fine but the T60 drops out.
I have downloaded the latest driver from your site (13.04.0000) and installed it.  On the properties of the device tab it shows as Atheros Communications - 9/6/2009 - 2.0.0.75.  All of the wireless settings seem the same between XP and Win7.
Any ideas on how I can fix this, it cannot be a hardware issue.
Many Thanks

Hello,
Perhaps the operating system is putting the wireless adapter to sleep in order to save power?  In the device properties for the Wireless Adapter, try disabling the option to turn off the device to save power, and see if that makes any difference.

  • AirPort Express drop-out / skips -- Windows XPSP2 w/ Linksys WRT54GS router

    Hello,
I'm having some skipping / drop-out issues when streaming music from a Windows XPSP2 fileserver, which runs iTunes 7.3.2.6, to my AirPort Express. I've long suspected my LinkSys WRT54GS router. Here are some things I've tried:
    * tried enabling logging on my AirPort Express unit, (I actually installed a Windows SysLog client and ensured it was working) but it reveals no useful information after a skip -- just debug logging. No change.
    * changed the wireless channel from 6 to 11. No change.
    * Do not have wireless security enabled (just don't broadcast ESS ID). No change.
    * Latest firmware on router, AirPort Express, and iTunes. No change.
    * All other wireless devices in the house turned off. No change.
I'm seriously considering buying a new wireless DSL router to see if it makes the problem go away (any suggestions to makes or models appreciated). Unfortunately my WRT54GS is not one of the routers that supports reflashing with a third-party firmware, or I would have done this eons ago.
Another thing I am not sure how to test is the signal strength that the Airport Express gets from my LinkSys WRT54GS router. I've not been able to figure out how to get this information, and I also do not know what are considered good / not-good strengths. Any help here would be great.
    Here are some details.
AirPort Express with Firmware 6.3, communicating wirelessly over Channel 11 to my LinkSys WRT54GS router with firmware 1.52.0, into which my Windows XPSP2 fileserver is physically connected with CAT5 cable. The music files are served up on a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 7200 rpm 300GB Serial ATA-150 Hard Drive.
I've really tried everything I can think of, and I still get skipping.
Specifically, music will play fine for 45 minutes, or 5 minutes, or an hour; then, the music will suddenly stop. The AirPort Express will continue to have its green LED on, though. The music will resume 1-10 seconds later. This skipping will happen periodically for a 1-2 minute period, usually 2-3 times per minute, go away for an indeterminate amount of time; or, it might persist until I get tired and turn off my stereo. There is no pattern as to time of day so I don't suspect neighborly interference.
Other things in the house are an older 802.11b laptop, 5.8GHz phone, brand new microwave, and a few dozen Palm and Windows PDAs that all have their WiFis disabled, where appropriate.
Any suggestions or ideas would be fantastic. This has been a problem for a couple of years now which I have systematically (though unsuccessfully) tried to solve.
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

I haven't yet budgeted to buy a different router, but I'll respond when I do as to whether this was the fix or not.
Just an observation ... in your case, the music streams wirelessly from your laptop to your router, and then wirelessly again from the router to your Airport. That's 2 wireless paths it must go. In my case, music streams directly to my router with a LAN cable; then, wirelessly from my router to the airport. So that's only 1 wireless path, and even still I am experiencing problems.

  • S20 Lan Network drops out after Windows 10 upgrade

Upgrade went ok and everything seems to work ok, but the network drops out after some downloads. Adapter gets disabled and cannot be enabled unless i perform a reboot. The network adapter is a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet. Installed the latest Lenovo System Update but that did not find any new drivers.

The network speed went down from approx 50 Mbps to 1.8 Mbps after the upgrade! So it is surely a network driver problem.

  • Wireless CNX just keeps dropping out

I used to have problems a while back but IMJOLLY fixed things for me, changed the main plate etc disconnected a few wires from the extensions
I have BT Bband, Home Hub 4 get a decent cnx for this area, just over 5
However every 5 minutes or so the wireless signal just drops< i have reset router, reset network adaptor, changed channels etc etc
What else could I do to try and resolve this please as I am now at a loss.
I don't have a phone connected just bband and have no other extensions in use
    Thanks

go to huib manager then advanced settings then wirelessl the 5ghz then change to do noit sync with 2.4ghz network  you can then giv 5ghz different ssis say add a 5 toi end and you can keep same password for both
you then need to conenct any devices that can to 5ghz to both the 2.4 and 5ghz networks so then can change between them depending on signal strength

  • LaserJet p1102w drops out of Windows 8.0 print

I have a P1102W that is used by 2 Windows PCs, one is 8.1 the other is 8.0         For the second time in a year the 8.0 PC stopped printing with the print indicators in print manager getting confused, ie status is printing-error-cancelling or similar impossible combination.  It will still print from the HP print manager running in a browser using the IP address, it's only anything using Windows print manager that won't.  (and it still works from the 8.1 PC - both PCs using Wifi connection)
Last time I fluked a solution after several hour of uninstalling and re-installing but this time I haven't hit the magic combination despite many retries - problems include the HP Smart Install looping for ever attempting to 'adding a network port', the last retry stuck on updating component registration.
I've tried uninstalling from Windows Print Manager and re-installing from Print Manager and HP Smart Install with the printer turned off and turned on - does anyone have any ideas how to fix please?

    Hi @mikerb ,
I see by your post that you are having issues printing with the Windows 8 computer and now you are trying to reinstall the printer. You are able to print over the wireless network on the Windows 8.1 computer though. Please clarify if this isn't correct. I would like to help you out today.
Follow these steps to disable the Smart Install for the printer, on the computer that is connected with the P1102w. Select printer not PC.
Press the Windows key and the X key together. and select File Explorer, right click the CD for the
printer and left click open in new window, go to util/siutility.exe/HP smart install utility.
Shows printer or PC - select printer.
    Then click disable.
    Run the install again.
If you are still having issues installing the printer, install the printer as a USB connection first, then create a new port for the IP address for the printer.
Go into Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
Type in the proper IP address for the printer. You will need to print the Configuration page to get the printer's IPv4 address. Printing a Configuration Page.
Make sure the printer is online.
    Test the printer.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • E4200 - wireless drops out

I am disappointed with the Linksys E4200 and E2500. Both had wireless issues with it dropping out. The Cisco connect was a nice feature, but the problems started when it wanted to update. I have gone back to the tried and true WRT54GL. I recommend that people should wait a year till Cisco fixes the problems.

The performance of your new router depends on various factors apart from the router itself. The wireless devices in your network, are they wireless G or wireless N devices? If they're wireless G devices, you won't really see any difference, and in fact any N devices in your network would also suffer because of that. Apart from that, placement of the router also matters.
Avoid keeping the router in a corner or under the table or something like that. Ideally you'd want to keep it at a higher location. The signal always travels better from a higher location to a lower location. Apart from this, you can also change channels on the router. Typically, wireless interference can cause poor signal strength and speed. Changing channels helps alleviate this problem to some extent. I'd suggest trying channels 1, 3, 6 or 9. You'll have to try each and observe which channel gives you the best performance. Every network environment is different, so what works for one network may not necessarily work for another. Please let me know if you need any further help with this.

  • Wireless drop outs: draytek vigor 2600: macbook pro: channel 6

    Hi all
Thought I'd drop this is, as it may help others??
I've been having real problems with unstable wireless drop outs, it's been driving me barmy!
I've been using a draytek vigor 2600 plus, when connected via ethernet, it's brilliant, use wireless and it *****, with drop outs every minute or so, and when it does connect the strength is shocking even though my router is above me, about 6 foot!
I used www.istumbler.net/ and found that my next door neighbour has his router on channel 6... same as mine, since this I've changed to channel 12 and now signal strength is full (on the airport logo) and haven't had a drop out for hours...
I'll post again if the status changes, but give it a try if you are having problems similar...
    hope this helps.
    Az

I have been having the same issue for the last two weeks. No real indication as to why it ever began other than I had turned off my router and Airport Extreme Base Station off for a weekend while I was away from my place.
iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, all have no issues at all with my Airport Extreme Base Station. Can stay connected throughout my living room, bathroom, bedroom, no issues whatsoever.
My 5 month old MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Core i7 Airport is sometimes perfect, able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue. Then, for no reason, I won't be able to join my wireless network, or when I can join, I can't pick up an IP address. And then it will connect, pick up and IP, and then it won't browse. No real rhyme or reason to when this will happen, or when it works.
I thought that it was an issue with my MacBook Pro, but then my sister visited with her brand new MacBook Pro 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo, and while a month ago she was able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue, this weekend she had all of the same issues I was having.
My XBOX 360 and MacBook Pro have absolutely no issues with the wired connection. Only my WAN seems to have this issue.
Did you ever find anything more to this?

  • Dual Band Network - WAN Keeps Dropping Out

    Here is my current setup:
    Cable Modem -> AEBS 802.11g (g/2.4ghz Only) -> AEBS 802.11n (5ghz Only)
It seems that ever since I got the new 802.11n router, I've been having serious connection drop outs from my cable modem. I don't lose my wireless signal from either router, I just can't seem to connect to any web pages for brief but frequent periods of time. This happens on the computer directly wired to the n router through a gigabit connection as well, so it doesn't seem to be related to a wireless issue.
The drop out is very brief, and can often happen as a page is loading, leaving me with all text and no images, half a page, etc. Usually it happens before a page even loads, and I have to click refresh a few times to "jump start" the connection again to get pages to load. This happens very frequently and is starting to get really annoying. \
    Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem!!!!

  • Airport Express dropping out constantly so I can't print wirelessly

I have an iMacG5 running OSX 10.3.9. I have a DLink wireless router which creates my wireless network that the iMac connects to. Also, as my printer as at the other end of the room, I have an airport express connected via USB to the printer so I can print wirelessly. Everything worked like a dream for about 12 months. Until recently I had no security on this network and although I was aware this was risky, I was reluctant to change anything because it all worked so well. But my paranoia got the better of me and I changed the DLink to WPA security. Ever since then, the airport express has acted very strangely. The connection dropped and I was required to do a hard reset. I did that and everything worked. I felt so smug that I had worked out a computer issue! Little did I know that as soon as I shut down the system the airport express dropped out again. I have since discovered that I don't actually need to shut down for the thing to drop out. It just does it of its own accord.
I have contacted AppleCare 3 times and spent a total of about 4 hours on this to date. No luck. They suggested interference. However my airport icon usually shows either 3 or 4 bars and there is no difference when the thing drops out.
The only thing I have learned is that Airport Express does not have to be reset all the time. In my situation, it is best to just unplug it, let it rest for about 30 seconds and then you should be able to see the thing in the airport admin utility. It does take a while and several rescans in the utility, but eventually it does show up. This at least means I don't have to constantly set it up to join the network.
In fact, really it is a doddle to print! I don't know why people like to just go File-Print when you can go through the delight of getting out of your chair, unplugging Airport Express, waiting 30 seconds, looking at the dust under the cupboard thinking I really must get that, plugging the airport express back in, watching the light change from green to amber, to flashing amber, wait for it...wait for it...it's not happening....waiting...finally - green!. Back to the computer, go to Finder - Applications - Utilities - Airport Admin Utility, not showing up, rescan, not there, rescan, rescan, rescan, still not there, rescan, oh good, airport express is showing up. Now, go to Printer setup utility, delete the printer that is there, then add printer, select rendezvous, add my hp, OK......now I can hit File - Print.
Has anyone got any ideas on how I can join the boring legions of people who are oblivious to the joys of printing my way?

    Hi,
I am currently replying to this as it shows in the iChat Community.
I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard  (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

  • Internet drop outs on my G5 since I use a wired router instead of wireless

    Hi guys!
I used to have wireless internet at home (1 x G5 & 2 x windows laptops). Internet worked fine and fast. Although I couldn't get all computers into a internal network (for easy sharing files...), but that's not the issue now.
Anyway, I have a new roommate in the house that doesn't have wireless on his windows pc. So, I connected all computers to a 4 ports router. I ditched the whole wireless thing because I couldn't get it working together with the wired router thing. So all computers are linked to the router by cable.
Now, at first everything worked fine. All computers had internet and I even had my long awaited network so that I could share files at high speed between computers (mac - windows). Suddenly, I guess after a couple of hours, my mac started having difficulties finding the network. At times I have no internet, or it takes looooooooooooooong to load up webpages and sharing files with my windows laptop takes like 6hours for 3giga (which normally is done in a couple of minutes). My windows laptop has no problem with internet, no drop out no nothing, everything works fine (except sending files to my mac which also takes hours...).
    Anybody knows what to do?
Also anyone knows if the following is possible:
    - cable comes in my house (WAN)
    - goes to wired 4port router
    - from the router 1 wire goes directly to a pc
    - from the router another wire goes to my wireless accesspoint which then would be used to connect 1 or more wireless pc's.
    - with all that, I'd like to have internet on all computers AND have a fully working network between all computers (mac and windows)
Anyone knows if this is possible?
    Thanks for your time!

The wireless access point is a D Link Airplus G+ 2.4Ghz. It has no extra ethernet ports.
I also thought of having a wireless router with extra ethernet ports. But of course this would mean another cost... I was hoping that I could fix it with the things I allready own.
But, nevertheless, there might be a little change in things as I just tried connecting with the second ethernet port on my mac. Haven't had any problems yet (+/- 10minutes). Am gonna try to send big files to my laptop in order to test the speed between them.
Will get back with the results.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Wireless mouse intermittently drops out/stops working

I have just bought a Mac Mini. I'm not a fan of Apple keyboards or mice, so I've bought a third party keyboard and I'm using a mouse that I already had (Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000). Whilst it works fine with my Macbook Pro and PC, with the mini I get drop outs in the form of jerky movement and occassionally stopping long enough to see it just isn't moving. The mini works fine with a wired mouse.
My gut feeling from playing around with the different mice and computers is that it is actually the aluminium case shielding the signal from the mouse (as both are on the desktop and the mini sits at the back of the desk with the USB ports on the back and a great chunk of aluminium therefore in front of it.
I have a USB hub built in to the monitor, but that seems to have the same problem - the USB ports are behind the panel and associated electronics. Sadly, my keyboard (Ducky Zero DK2108) doesn't have a hub built in, so I can't connect the dongle to that either.
I'm just surprised I haven't seen (after a lot of googling) other complaints about the same. I may have to reluctantly buy a Bluetooth mouse as the BT antenna is of course outside of the Alu case. An alternative may be to use a small USB hub that can be positioned with line-of-sight to the mouse. It seems absurd I would have to do either of those things.
Can anyone else comment on their experiences?

  • As of late in iTunes wireless multiple devices drop out?

    Hello,
as of late in iTunes wireless multiple devices drop out about once a day? I have 2 airports and an Apple Tv connected which I have been using for several years with no problem.
I think this started with the latest iTunes update, but I'm not sure? Usually I have to quit iTunes and then up again, but sometimes I also restart the computer to get the devcies shown again. Are there any thoughts on that? Thanks!

what would happen if I deleted the folders?
Will the duplicates still show in iTunes?
What happens if I rename the folders something else?
Yes, the duplicates will still show in iTunes, but, as the directory has changed, iTunes will lose contact, and therefore show those files with an exclamation point.
Although, if you had "copy into library folder" checked, the duplicates will remain untouched, as they already are in the central location, where iTunes is told to store the music.
If this isn't the case, you can use this behaviour to get rid of the duplicates:
Once you renamed/deleted the folders with the duplicates, open iTunes. All the duplicates in question should now show with the said exclamation point next to them.
The next step would be to highlight the entire library manipulate an info, that is usually not needed. (I suggest using the BPM- field, enter "BPM: 96" f.e.)
Changes will not apply for lost track, therefore you can sort the library by BPM (or the info of your choice) and remove all tracks with an empty field in that collumn in one shot.
    Hope that helps

How do you downgrade? I suspect this is my issue as well. Also once I do downgrade, how do I prevent pacman from auto-maticly upgrading it again?
