T60P LCD issue

Hi all,
I've just gotten hold of a 2007 model T60P which I believe has the silly high resolution on the LCD via the Intel chipset however the screen has a small fault in that it will not display anything.
I can adjust the brightness, using the FN keys and the screen visably gets brighter/dimmer depending on the button pushed, and an external monitor works correctly when plugged in so I assume that its either just the LCD cable that has gone or the actual panel is dead and I need to get a replacement 15" monitor (no problem there .. ebay) but just wanted to check my logic on thinking its actually the panel rather than the the inverter/chipset/cable.
Also on the replacement screen is 1400 x 1050 (SXGA+) really the highest resolution for the 15" panels or can I go higher resolution if I can find a supplier for them?
Many thanks in advance
Dino

Your logic seems solid.
Since the external monitor displays, graphics chipset should be good.
Bad inverter should display a very dim screen, but visible.
If you are comfortable taking things apart, you could reseat the cable.
The best way to get an exact panel replacement is get the model number
off the panel itself. More dis-assembly.
Try to stick with a matched panel.
No absolute, positive, 100% answer here, it could still be any of the things you mentioned,
but faulty lcd panel seems most likely. And of course the most expensive!

  • T60p LCD problems

I just recently experienced a problem with my LCD for a T60p thinkpad.  This laptop has worked great for almost 2 years.  But now when I boot the laptop I can only see the top third of the screen the lower 2/3 are miscolored rectangles.  This occurs even from the first boot.  Occasionally the image will flicker and correct itself. I tested booting with an external monitor attached and was able to reach the bios and see the settings on the external monitor.
I am not sure of the build number will check when I get home but here are the specs I know:
    ATI FireGL V5200
    Vista Ultimate x64
    4GB Ram
Was wondering what other steps I should take to troubleshoot and resolve this problem?  Should I reflash the BIOS?  If it turns out to be an LCD issue where would be a good place to order a replacement?
    Thanks

    Hello,
It could be the inverter failing, which can be replaced by contacting Lenovo, or by going to eBay and purchasing one from there.  The LCD inverter is located at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
Moreso, if it's not the inverter, then it just might be the screen itself and that would need to be replaced, which can be found on eBay as well.
If you have warranty on the system, then I recommend contacting technical support first for more help on it.

  • MacBook Pro LCD Issue

I have an aluminum MacBook Pro 15" with Intel core 2 duo and GeForce 8600M GT.
Starting from this evening, the LCD screen shown for the whole size, many vertical green lines 1 pixel widht. The external monitor connected to the DVI work well, so it seems an LCD issue. Any one experienced same issue and/or can suggest me a solution?
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Since the external works well, it does sound like a display issue, and could be a hardware fault in the display itself. If so, the solution would probably be to replace the display.
If you have access to an Apple Store, it would be worth making an appointment at the genius bar to have a trained professional look at it in person and give you an opinion.
For future reference, you do have the graphics chip which is covered by this program:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Since the external has good video, you probably don't have that problem now, but keep it in mind if you start having problems on the external as well.
    Good luck!

  • T60p LCD panel died - which kind do I have?

T60p LCD panel died -  red screen for 30 seconds at startup then blank.

    Hi,
What is the 7-digit type/model number and 7-digit product ID on the back of your laptop (so we can confirm that it is a 14.1" model)?
Reddish glow sounds like your backlight is out. If you shine a flashlight into the screen, can you read what's on the screen? If possible, hook your T60p up to an external monitor. If it displays perfectly, then more than likely your system board is fine and it's just the LCD that needs to be replaced.
Any 14.1" 4:3 standard panel from another T60, R60, T61 and a few other models will work. Some are XGA (1024x768 resolution) while others are SXGA+ (1400x1050 high resolution). If you have a T60p it likely came with SXGA+ resolution to match the more advanced ATI graphics processor.
It's best to find a used, genuine Lenovo panel, or, even better, an entire LCD assembly, which makes for an easier swap. Look for a genuine panel with a Lenovo FRU part number printed on the back. "Compatible" or generic (non-O.E.M.) panels are often of inferior quality and may not function properly once installed since the EDID chip has not been properly programmed.

I got ya...I use to call it the iphone 4G too because it was the 4 Generation iphone. But with all this 4G getting thrown around by the carriers I can see where it could be an issue calling the iphone4 an iphone 4G. Technically there isn't really any phone out there that has 4G technology in it, including the EVO from sprint. 4G is basically a marketing term. None of the current networks meet the official standards for 4G, only the HSPA+ which isn't technically built on 4G technology. You probably won't see TRUE 4G technology for a long time. I currently build cell towers and the technology isn't at the towers yet.

  • Weird Laptop LCD Issues

I've having weird issues with my T500 LCD. Whenever I run certain apps, all the icons on the desktop (that I can see) flicker until either A) I close the app B) it resolves itself and loads. This issue seems to always happen when the app I'm using has a splash screen (basically a small square image in the center saying I'm loading app X)  I'm updating the drivers and hoping that this resolves the issue.
I don't know what is causing the issue and I don't know know when its started.

  • N97 mini LCD issue

By mistake I kept my N97 mini in back pocket of my jeans and kept sitting for around an hour !! I believe that LCD was facing my body while it was in pocket. I assume it got pressed by body weight and now touch is not working properly, specially lower part of lcd. Do I need to take it to Nokia care or do I have any other option ?

If you are sure that the issue started after that then most probably its related to Hardware and its best to visit Nokia care... but before you do that back-up your data as in all probability this will be wiped-off during the repairs...

  • G570 LCD Issue

    Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a Lenovo G570 4334DDU laptop and I've been a little annoyed with the LCD.  It's almost as if there is a very thin mesh of lines through out the screen.  It's more noticable on white backgrounds and at times it makes images look sort of pixelated.  My old laptops never had such noticeable vertical lines.   Is this a defect in the lcd or are the screens for this laptop just really low end?

    hi poinsda,
    Welcome to the Community.
    Can you try the following:
    1. Insert your Recovery Discs and try pressing F12 on startup - this displays a boot manager where you can select a boot device (i.e. HDD, CD/DVD, etc.) - select CD/DVD to boot from the Recovery Disc.
    2. Turn off the machine and press the One Key Recovery button to trigger the built-in recovery feature on the HDD.
    Note:
Loading the Recovery Discs or doing the One Key Recovery will wipe the machine and restore its factory settings

  • LCD issue

wasp pple i gt an hp DV41 Core i5 , i dropped it and t cracked the lcd and damaged the hard disk, i hv gt a new hard disk but cant afford the LCD ($300 this syd ) so how do i install the OS using external LCD

    Hi @paolomaldini
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I am sorry to hear about all the damage your notebook has suffered and certainly it makes things awkward. Let's see if we can find a way to do it for you.
Normally with an OS installed, if the panel is closed and an external monitor is connected, the video automatically gets redirected to the external display. Of course that does not help with the keyboard, unless you have an external keyboard installed as well.
Unfortunately as you are also dealing with a blank hard drive, there is no OS, and you cannot see the BIOS to change to an external boot device. Also because of the extent of the damage you have described to your computer, there is no guarantee that other damage does not exist to the boards or other components.
That being said , something you could try is to install the operating system using your installation disk, to the hard drive as an external drive attached to a different computer.
How to Install an Operating System on an External Hard Drive    - eHow.com
If you can do that you can then install the drive to your notebook and see if you can boot from it with the external display attached.

I can get some of the screens pretty cheap and shipping to NL wouldn't be a problem, but would add to the cost. Some of the screens are as little as $20-30, about 1/10th their cost when new. Shipping cost may, or maynot be a deal-breaker depending on what is available in your area.

  • [T60p] Trackpoint issue

    Hello,
I have a new issue since i updated my t60p. I opened it to add a SSD and a new processor (T7200), and since i reassembled it, my trackpoint doesn't work unless i unplug the palm rest (so the touchpad id unplugged).
If I plug the palm rest, the trackpoint stops to work. It does it even on a linux live cd, so it is not a driver problem.
In the bios both trackpoint and touchpad are set on "automatic".
Do you know this issue guys ?
    Thanks

This is odd, but if what you report is 100% accurate, then it must be caused by the disassembly, so I would suspect the keyboard connector. Try unplugging and replugging it on the system board. While it's off take a good look at both connectors with a jewers loop, see if you see any damage. If you do, don't go any further without extreme caution. The keyboard can be replaced very inexpensively, but if you damage the connector on the board, you're looking at a lot of work and money.
I'll also state that I've done this hundreds of times and never had a problem like this, so it really sounds more like a software problem, but I won't doubt that you have ruled out that posibility, but you might want to double check. Also make sure all the other keys work on your keyboard...  in fact you may want to do that first. If your connector is damaged or not seated properly, it's probable that other keys won't be working too. There are many software programs to test keyboards, There are also online tests you can use. I found this one on a google search, but I make no claims to it's function, or the safety of the webpage....

  • IBM T60p Keyboard issue

I am using IBM Thinkpad T60p.
The labtop was working fine till yesterday as suddenly the keyboard started giving problems. When I type for e.g a,b,c the machine types s kjfh; etc. Few of the keys are working, but most of the keys have problems.
I tried pressing the combination of keys (Fn+ Num Lock, SHift + Num Lock) which was suggested on some of the forums. That did not solve the problem.
I tried to restore the machine to the factory default, even then the problem was not solved.
Althought If I connect an external USB key board, the ext keyboard works fine.
Has anybody faced this kind of issue in T60?
    Thanks,
    VK

Sounds like the keyboard has given up on life and needs to be changed with a new one.

  • T60p Overheating issue

I've a T60p and the CPU is running at 53 degrees and GPU is at 67 degrees. I've sent the laptop in for repairs for overheating a few times but IBM can't seem to resolve the issue. This causes system to freeze randomly.
Any tips or tricks to bring the temperature down?

    >  T60p and the CPU is running at 53 degrees and GPU is at 67 degrees.
My T60p CPU is currently at 57C and GPU at 70C. That's at the low end of normal.
    > This causes system to freeze randomly.
How did you determine that? My T60p has frozen randomly maybe 2 or 3 times in as many years. I've attributed that to software, although I can't be absolutely certain.
It would seem that the cause of the random freezing is something other than temperature. After the system freezes and you reboot, check the Windows Event Log to see if there are any entries just before the freeze.

  • X201s LCD issue not taken under warranty

I had posted earlier on this issue here
I purchased my x201s last year and after maybe a week or two (or maybe since new) I noticed a white spot on the left side corner of the screen (see photo). Because I use my laptop for work everyday I could not send it back (I wish I had choosen the onsite warranty).
Having some free time these days I sent it back to lenovo. There response was that it is going to cost me $700 and did not give any explanation as to why it was not cover under the warranty.
The person reluctantly escalated my issue to another service without giving me any explanation at all and the answer came back $700 dollars to fix the screen.
I am outraged at the way I have been treated on this issue. I have not been given any information, I have been without laptop for two weeks now and I don't seem to be able to talk to anyone else than my initial contact who is to say the least uncooperative.
There is no reason to be treated like this for a $500 dollars piece of equipment. But when you paid $2000 dollars this is as if Lenovo was saying we don't provide customer service anymore go to our competitors
My last ressource is this forum. If there is a way for me to get in contact with a manager who could look at my case I would greatly appreciate it.

the light spot means there is a pressure spot behind the LCD. This should be replaceable under warranty.
And particularily this one with option d exactly describing what happened to me:
    lead_org wrote:

    1) can you post an image of the problem?
    2) Cracked LCD can be due to:
    a) dropping the laptop on a hard surface.
    b) the LCD have uneven pressure spot behind the LCD, which when loaded by an external force (i.e. putting a large load on the top case), causes a concentrated stress resulting in LCD cracking.
    c) closing the LCD too hard, i.e. slamming it shut
    d) a manufacturing defect or there is construction defect, if the latter usually light spots on the LCD would appear first.
cases a,b and c are the most common causes of LCD cracking.
Unless you have some sort of proof that the case d was the cause of the LCD cracking, then there is very little likelihood that Lenovo would repair the LCD damage under warranty.
All of this to say that this is what I experienced. An lcd white spot appearing a few weeks after having received the laptop (may there since the beggining..) and I then later noticed tiny cracks.
I feel this is my right as any consummer to express my concerns and receive the service associated with my product. My mistake is not to have returned the laptop right away

  • New iMac 24" LCD issue

Hi all, hope somebody here can give me an accurate answer or how serious my problem is.. Basically the whole iMac runs beautifully however just a problem with the LCD screen - on the left side about a 1/4 my browser window with a white background is bright white - but when i drag the window towards the centre to the right side it is all dirty white (dull light brown) - is this a serious problem with the LCD screen? I've only had it under two days now..
I'm not sure if this is a normal behaviour for an LCD

CJ, you have a sharp eye. It took me two days before I noticed it, but there is a slight variation from the extreme, white left side and the rest of the screen. There was some mention about these screens being bad for calibration (that conclusion is incorrect, I use a Monaco X-Rite DTP94 and ColorEyes to get good color fidelity) ... but I am disturbed by this brightness variation.
I considered returning my iMac, so I dropped by the Apple store today and checked out all of the 24" iMacs. I believe this occurs on all of them. I spent some time with an incredulous Apple Store employee, and after a while of staring and comparing he admitted that there was a slight variation. It might not actually be differing brightness, but a slightly different tone between the extreme left and right sides of the screen.
Anyhow I think I'll just get an Eizo 24" monitor to run as an expanded desktop with the new iMac, but from my inspection this appears to be a phenomenon that affects all 24" monitors, and returning your iMac for a new one will probably end in the same result.
You have hawk eyes to even notice it, it's a very subtle gradation, but nevertheless real.
