[T60p] Trackpoint issue

Hello,
I have a new issue since i updated my t60p. I opened it to add a SSD and a new processor (T7200), and since i reassembled it, my trackpoint doesn't work unless i unplug the palm rest (so the touchpad id unplugged).
If I plug the palm rest, the trackpoint stops to work. It does it even on a linux live cd, so it is not a driver problem.
In the bios both trackpoint and touchpad are set on "automatic".
Do you know this issue guys ?
Thanks

This is odd, but if what you report is 100% accurate, then it must be caused by the disassembly, so I would suspect the keyboard connector. Try unplugging and replugging it on the system board. While it's off take a good look at both connectors with a jewers loop, see if you see any damage. If you do, don't go any further without extreme caution. The keyboard can be replaced very inexpensively, but if you damage the connector on the board, you're looking at a lot of work and money.
I'll also state that I've done this hundreds of times and never had a problem like this, so it really sounds more like a software problem, but I won't doubt that you have ruled out that posibility, but you might want to double check. Also make sure all the other keys work on your keyboard...  in fact you may want to do that first. If your connector is damaged or not seated properly, it's probable that other keys won't be working too. There are many software programs to test keyboards, There are also online tests you can use. I found this one on a google search, but I make no claims to it's function, or the safety of the webpage....

  • Trackpoint issues on T60 - keeps pushing the wrong way after use

    Hi,
I have had this issue with another Lenovo laptop, too, but my current laptop is a T60.
Sometimes (unpredictably), I may move the Trackpoint into one direction to move the mouse cursor, and as soon as I let go, the mouse cursor moves in the opposite direction for about 2 seconds or so.
This is highly annoying and disruptive.
Any idea what could cause this?
This has happened ever since I bought the laptop (new), so it should not be a matter of "worn out".
Is there anything I can do about this?
    Thanks!

Yes, don't rest your finger on it unless you're actually moving the pointer.  It senses pressure and tries to recalibrate.

  • Ubuntu 13.10 on a T440 - Wifi, Sound, Fingerprint reader and TrackPoint issues

I recently got my t440 and put Ubuntu 13.10 on it and have had a few problems pop up. Hopefully someone here can help, or I will find solutions and post here as things get working again.
Wifi - I have a Thinkpad  11b/g/n 2x2 wireless card. I do not believe there are currently Linux drivers provided for this card. According to thinkwiki, the 1x2 version of the card works with real tek's rtl8192se driver; I have tried to load it with modprobe, but it does not work for this card. There might be a solution to this with ndiswrapper, but I haven't been successful. I have ordered an intel wireless card to replace this one.

TrackPoint - The trackpoint pointer works fine, but lenovo did away with the physical left/middle/right click buttons. • ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint issues with scroll (55Y9003)

    Hi Guys,
I am having issues with this  keyboard...
I ordered it to use it  on my work where I have Dell Vostro desktops.
However scroll simply doesn't work in all programs and even stops working ... I also using VM and it doesn't work at all in VMWARE even if you point inside it it still operates at host system !? Weird...
I have installed latest drivers 1.01 but nothing... So when I removed all drivers and just keep default scroll work as default but still not in all programs and not in VM Ware, etc... Just to be clear my regular mouse scroll works in all and works properly...
Is it possible that this keyboard will work only on Thinkpads used as external keyboard ?
There are two things to be installed when I start a disk one is driver and second one is some interface driver which can be only installed on Thinkpads ?! Couldn't be that that thing is missing when running on non Thinkpad systems?
Any help how to make scroll work in all programs?
    Thanks.
Moderator edit: Removed UltraNav from the title. This keyboard just has a TrackPoint.

I have the ThinkPad USB keyboard on a non-Lenovo desktop, and it works.
Yes the keyboard driver installs, but not the Lenovo System Interface Driver, for obvious reasons. All the buttons and TrackPoint work.
Yes the TrackPoint does not scroll in all programs. Search the community for "trackpoint scroll fix" and you will come up with instructions on how to fix this.

  • External ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint issues with scroll (55Y9003) and hotkeys on a x201

    Hello
Once more there is a glitch with the drivers for this external keyboard 55Y9003.
    I have the drivers:
16.2.19.13 for the ultranav system of the x201
    1.10 for the external keyboard
    My system is XP sp3.
The keyboard of the x201is fine relative to the one  55Y9003.
The scrolling is set to standard for both systems.
Please do not advise to select smooth; it is not a solution and the smooth scrolling has been systematically utterly unusable.
    The issues:
-the hotkeys on the external keyboards are not all working:
basically, fn+f4 and fn+nmlk work but the rest does not (say fn+f8)
-the scrolling of the external keyboard is not at all identical to the scrolling of the x201.
For instance, in pdfs viewed with foxit for instance, I have not a problem to scroll horizontally with the x201 starting with the hand tool.
WIth the external keyboard, whan I press the middle button to activate the scrolling, it remains the hand tool, I can scroll vertically but not horizontally.
FIrefox as also issues whith the middle button.
-the external keyboard still suffers from the sticky shift key.
I know the x201 and the 55Y9003 are no longer fashionable, but  Is there some directly  guy working at Lenovo who could help ?

  • T440s touchpad and trackpoint issue

I have a new T440s which came with Windows 8, and I upgraded to 8.1
    Nothing strange installed in it.
Sometimes touchpad and/or trackpoint don't work at all after turning on, rebooting or recovering from a suspended state.
It never fails while the system is running.
When it happens, I reboot and it works fine.
Already upgraded everything using System Update (BIOS, etc) and Windows Update.
Sounds to me as a driver issue, not a hardware issue... but I am not 100% sure.
    What should I do?
Should I reinstall any driver? How?

Uninstall the UltraNav driver from Device Manager or Programs and Features. Then run System Update; it should offer the UltraNav driver again.

  • IBM T60p Keyboard issue

I am using IBM Thinkpad T60p.
The labtop was working fine till yesterday as suddenly the keyboard started giving problems. When I type for e.g a,b,c the machine types s kjfh; etc. Few of the keys are working, but most of the keys have problems.
I tried pressing the combination of keys (Fn+ Num Lock, SHift + Num Lock) which was suggested on some of the forums. That did not solve the problem.
I tried to restore the machine to the factory default, even then the problem was not solved.
Althought If I connect an external USB key board, the ext keyboard works fine.
Has anybody faced this kind of issue in T60?
    Thanks,
    VK

Sounds like the keyboard has given up on life and needs to be changed with a new one.

  • Thinkpad W540 Trackpoint issue

    Hi.
I'm having some issues with my newly bought W540 thinkpad.
Each time Windows 8.1 starts up after a longer shutdown, the UltraNav trackpoint freezes.
The problem seems to affect the trackpoint only, i have no problem with the touchpad.
Loading the UEFI BIOS setup defaults seems to help, but i need to do it after every shutdown, which is
very frustrating. The problem doesn't occur when restarting windows.
    Pleas help!

    Hi Thinkblaze,
    Thank you for the reply!
The driver version which you have mentioned is correct, & I think the firmware is not working as expected; this might be the cause for the hardware failure.
However we can check one more option and after that you can log the case for that.
Please uninstall the Synaptics driver from Control panel – program and feature option and restart the system, let windows install the default driver for that and check if the issue still persist.
And also check removing the cap of the Track-point and check if there is any dust inside that.
Click here for complete details on Track-point settings.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Hemanth Kumar

  • T60p Overheating issue

I've a T60p and the CPU is running at 53 degrees and GPU is at 67 degrees. I've sent the laptop in for repairs for overheating a few times but IBM can't seem to resolve the issue. This causes system to freeze randomly.
Any tips or tricks to bring the temperature down?
Message Edited by Spartan029 on 03-15-2009 12:59 AM

    >  T60p and the CPU is running at 53 degrees and GPU is at 67 degrees.
My T60p CPU is currently at 57C and GPU at 70C. That's at the low end of normal.
    > This causes system to freeze randomly.
How did you determine that? My T60p has frozen randomly maybe 2 or 3 times in as many years. I've attributed that to software, although I can't be absolutely certain.
It would seem that the cause of the random freezing is something other than temperature. After the system freezes and you reboot, check the Windows Event Log to see if there are any entries just before the freeze.

  • T60P Resolution issue

I have T60P, Windows 7, using Generic PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.
The max resolution available is 1400 x1050.  I have changed to different resotion but it does not seem to look right. It stretches more on the width; the height seems less unproportionately, relatively to the height.
Does anyone have any solution to this?. I have not installed any drivers for screen or video after Windows 7 install

You need the correct graphics driver, found here:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/79d179ww.exe
After downloading and extracting it, you'll probably have to go to C>Drivers>Win>Display and run the setup from there.
    Good luck.

  • T60P LCD issue

    Hi all,
I've just gotten hold of a 2007 model T60P which I believe has the silly high resolution on the LCD via the Intel chipset however the screen has a small fault in that it will not display anything.
I can adjust the brightness, using the FN keys and the screen visably gets brighter/dimmer depending on the button pushed, and an external monitor works correctly when plugged in so I assume that its either just the LCD cable that has gone or the actual panel is dead and I need to get a replacement 15" monitor (no problem there .. ebay) but just wanted to check my logic on thinking its actually the panel rather than the the inverter/chipset/cable.
Also on the replacement screen is 1400 x 1050 (SXGA+) really the highest resolution for the 15" panels or can I go higher resolution if I can find a supplier for them?
    Many thanks in advance
    Dino

    Your logic seems solid.
Since the external monitor displays, graphics chipset should be good.
Bad inverter should display a very dim screen, but visible.
If you are comfortable taking things apart, you could reseat the cable.
The best way to get an exact panel replacement is get the model number
off the panel itself. More dis-assembly.
Try to stick with a matched panel.
No absolute, positive, 100% answer here, it could still be any of the things you mentioned,
but faulty lcd panel seems most likely. And of course the most expensive!

  • Thinkpad T60p - screen issue (ATI)

Since upgrading to the latest ATI driver back in July, oaccasionally I would get horizontal lines, about 1 cm long running at random places in my screen. Usually when some program is open it's in that zone. I don't know if that's considered tearing, but the lines are annoying, especially when watching a video. I really don't know what else to provide, except that upgrading to the latest xf86-video-ati driver caused this. Here is the conf from xorg if you have any suggestions to enable something.

  • X61 trackpoint doesn't work

    Hi,
I bought an X61 (type: 7673-BE9) last month. Now I have met a trackpoint issue. It will not work at any time: no response to left and right buttons, no response to the red stick. If I reboot the system, it maybe works or doesn't. In the later case,  I noticed that there was a yellow exclamation mark before trackpoint in the hardware management.
I have tried to reinstall the trackpoint driver(4.62), but it was helpless. Here's my system information:
        OS:    Windows XP sp2
        BIOS: 2.07
        Trackpoint Driver Version: 4.62
Would anyone please help me? Thanks a lot.
                                    Best Regards
                                      Thiross

Hi, Im experiencing exactly the same Problems on my X61. I was using Windows Vista for three month and had no problems at all. The strange mouse behaviour just started after installing Windows XP. The funny thing is that the mouse stops working some seconds after the GUI boot. So i tried to kill all of the trackpoint tasks running, but I didnt find any task being responsible for this behaviour. My next try will be to stop some drivers and see if I can find the problem here.
Did you find any other solution?
    Best regards,
    dkirsten

  • T410S and Linux Mint 17

    Hello,
for the past few months, I have been struggling with my T410S improperly loading my touchpad and onboard keyboard, attached is my thread on Linux Mint Forums:
    http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=173213&sid=978fb94f69bd40e470fb328e1cc35bdc
For a brief period of time I tried Ubuntu14.04.1 LTS, the driver issues most definitely disappeared but I really dislike the Ubuntu distro so I made a jump back to Linux Mint. The problem with my keyboard and touchpad persists.
I have been looking into understand if possible, to implement the drivers from Ubuntu onto my Mint OS.
So far I haven't been successful at all. I know how to fix the mouse problem after boot but it's a checkmate when my computer boots without the keyboard.
I have tried different kernel versions, apparently identical kernel did not solve my problems either.
I have spoken to a Masters student in Comp-sci and he recommended getting IBM/Lenovo module and modify the kernel which I am very inexperienced in.
Any help would be much appreciated at this point.
    Thank you for your time

I tested Linut Mint 17 out of my live USB drive when I got my T510 and W510 (similar generation as yours) and it worked perfectly.  The T510 was later running Debian for weeks without any keyboard/mouse/touchpad/trackpoint issue.
What happens if you try any other Linux distro out of a USB or DVD? Does it work? I'm trying to rule out a hardware defect
