T60p - unable to rotate display after installing win xp sp3

Hi,
I am using WinXP on my T60p. Just installed WinXP sp3 and am now unable to rotate the display using the ATI Catalyst control center.
I have the latest driver from Lenovo installed (dated 31 jan 2008). There are no drivers to be found at ATI for the Fire GL V5250 display adapter.
Display driver version is 8.442.3.0.
Does anyone know of a driver that will fix this problem?
T60p - 20078JG - 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD- WinXP Pro SP3 - 256MB ATI FireGL V5250 - Advanced Mini Dock - 24" DELL monitor.

do you mean that the option to rotate is no longer there, or that it is there, but doesn't work?
Have you tried the key combinations; Ctrl+Alt+ ← / ↑ / ↓ / → ?

Satellite U300 - 11y - No sound after installing win XP, SP3 rc1

Finally got my U300 working with XP, but I can't get the sound working. Appropriate drivers are installed, but nothing. The hardware was working under Vista, so this seems to be a driver problem. I think the realtek installer for somereason doesn't completely finish the configuration.
I followed advice as given on

Getting pretty nervous now, as I need sound for Skype in my business.

I had the same problem when trying to install XP on my U300. I now regetfully deleted the files I used, which is a shame - I did not know others had similar problems.
However, if my m serves me right, the second patch suggested by Pedro (KB835221) is the correct one.
The first one is the theoretical fix for HD audio, but SP3 RC1 will not allow its installation, since it thinks the patch is older than the service pack itself.
The second patch appears to be the same thing, but modified for SP3 to accept it.
The second patch should work, and after installing it, you should be able to install the sound drivers normally.

Satellite P100-429 - cannot install display drivers for Win XP SP3

Hi,
i have Toshiba p100 429 laptop, installed with win xp professional sp3. I'am unable to change screen resolution from 640 by 480.
Actually i tried to download display driver from toshiba site but after installing driver it give blue screen with error message NV4_mini.sys error.
After this i can not even start my laptop.
I am presently using external monitor ( sync master B2230). I have also tried to download drivers from Nvidia website but that does not work either.
Resolution on my screen is still low. thanks for your help

I am unable to load webpages after installing snow leopard

I am currently typing this on my iPhone. After installing snow leopard this morning I am unable to connect to either safari or Firefox. Both come up with server errors and will not load the webpages. The Internet is still connected over wifi and I am able to both send and receive emails. I am Oma MacBook running the Internet on an at home wifi connection. Please help!

Can't get wifi working on X201 after installing Win 7 64 bit

I've just purchased an X201 type 3294 with a 320gb HDD running Windows 7 64bit. Wifi works fine when running from the original HDD. I've pulled the HDD and replaced it with an SSD and installed windows 7 64 bit so I can use the 4gb RAM which came with the computer. I did a fresh install then started trying to install drivers. I started with Wifi first so I could download the rest of the drivers directly to the computer. I can't get wifi working after installing Windows 7 64bitfor some reason. I have the original HDD in an external enclosure so I can still access it.
I can't figure out what drivers I need, or even what adapter I have on the computer.Lenovo's part look up tells me the adapter is part number 60Y3231, but that information seems to be useless. I've tried most of the drivers on Lenovo's driver page. I've tried just copying the C:/Drivers folder from the original HDD, and just about anything else I can thinkof.
Anyone know how I can get the right driver, or if this is even a driver problem? For what it's worth I'm not afraid of having to learn some terminal if I have to but I'm totally unfamiliar with Win 7. I have much more experience with XP, Vista and OSX/some Ubuntu.

If you have a wired connection you could try installing ThinkVantage System Update. Run it and it should find all the appropriate drivers and install them for you.
That FRU seems to be an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200. It's hard to tell from the drivers page which one to use. Most of the README files include 6200. My best guess: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/g1w218ww_s64.exe

Msi k9a2: unable to install win xp (sp3) on WD 150Gb velociraptor

I recently bought a MSI k9a2 V2 mobo, with 2x1Gb 1066 memory and AMD 9850. I installed win xp on a WD 150Gb raptor connected to sata1. Bios upgraded to 1.5, I got the mem to run on 1066 by changing the bios mem setting to 1:2.66.
A week later I wanted the board changed to V1 because I need the Promise Sata 5 and 6 ports.
This board is an absolute pain: WD raptor not recognised by sb600 raid port1, even though the correct driver is installed. Ports 2 thru 4 see the drive, but I still cannot install the win xp os, I can connect the drive to the promise connectors, but I also cannot install the os. Installing win xp os on a 7200rpm drive (ie Samsung 1Gb) works, but I want it on a raptor.
MSI support tells me to upgrade to bios 1.65, which is brand new since last week, and is not even put on their website yet, I had to get a password and login to get it from their ftp. I succesfully installed the new bios, but no change.
This board has a Tom's Hardware recommendation but it absolutely does not deserve it. I find it unacceptable that installing an os requires such a pain. If and when I find a solution I will post it, but I would very much appreciate help or input from anyone with similar experiences and/or new ideas.

OK, the first board would not recognize any of my HD's (4 10k Raptors) SOLUTION: BAD BOARD=EXCHANGE
OK the second board was very unstable, would throw BSOD all the time even just loading WINDOWS VISTA either on IDE, RAID on SB600 or Promise RAID... SOLUTION: EXCHANGE (thinking it was defective)
3rd board; I really wanted the 4x PCIe 16x slots and no other board has this layout, so I started HARD on the board, loaded VISTA 64 in IDE mode ch1 on a RAPTOR 10k, after loading I got a BSOD , so I boot and entered the bios, I set all at default and started one MENU at the time, i found the my RAM was not working at 1066, but at 800MHz, so i change it to 1:2.66 for a 1066MHZ, and booted.
another BSOD , I went back to the bios and checked the voltage to the ram... , my ram is rated for 2.1v not 1.8 that the system was delivering so i manually changed the voltage, and booted... well it lasted longer, I was able to load some applications and games... and then BSOD what else can be wrong
I then loaded AMD overdrive utils to monitor the system and try to OC the Phenom ( call me crazy for trying to Overclock a non stable system, but i wanted to find out why it was not stable...)
so I let the system autoOC and it crashed every single time...
I don't give up easy.. the Phenom 9950 is know for easy OC to at least 3.0Ghz, so I manually started OC the CPU on the Overdrive software and checking the temp and voltage.. and then I discover one thing , as i changed the multiplier slider on the AMD overdrive, it adjusted the voltage up slightly and i was able to OC to 3.0 Ghz and run benchmarks, but the fun soon stop by the dreaded BSOD, so i started back at the bios by setting the processor multiplier by default, but increase the voltage (so no OC'ing is done now, just up the voltage)
4hrs later no BSOD's and the system is running like a champ , so it came to me... the CPU Cores need more voltage even at the default speed, as i noticed that they run OK w/o BSOD as long as the don't exceed about 60-80% load for long before system HUNG or BSOD, now all I needed was to OC and boost the volage even higher
so far I been running error free @ 15x Multiplier, 1.448v 3.0Ghz, OCZ ram 1066MHz @ 2.1 5-5-5-18 per LABEL on RAM, ATI 4850 Saphire OC'd to 690MHz core/ 2196MHz Memory (1098)
so to summarized all this; the Phenom CPU's are under voltage! and this board you need to enter all the voltage, timings, ratios for the RAM.
I hope this helps other users, but be careful not to push the voltage to high!

About T420 Fn keys after install Win 8 pro

Few days ago, I installed Win 8 pro on my T420 and found that I can't use my Fn keys like bluetooth.
Does anyone have similar issue??

i requested the upgrade to win 7 professional
get no response so i think i'll buy a win 7 retail full version (vista english, but want dutch win 7 so guess i need full version)
what do i need to download (and where) to get all software / drivers like are installed originally?
i want dutch versions

what do you mean no ressponse? you're not going to get the disks until at least mid-november (or something) via the official win7 upgrade scheme anyway
anyway, just go to lenovo.com and install system update 4.0 after installing win7. it should install everything for you (unless you ask it not to, obviously)

I have the same issue however I can charge my phone if I plug it in and then turn it off. Will only charge will turned off meaning this is not a hardware issue, definitely software related.

1) instal the soun driver from the driver package given in toshibas support site
2) go to control panel->system->hardware tab->device manager
there you should see a monitor like icon with a yellow warning sign "PCI device"
3) try updating drivers for this device selecting from the list hihg definition audio.. it should get working, at least it did for me!

When you reset a virtual directory, the virtual directory is removed and a new virtual directory with default settings is created.
After you reset the VD, did you restart IIS?

Photoshop 7 Fails to Install WIN XP SP3

Hi: I can not get a new in the box version of PS 7 to install on WIN XP SP3. Using D:\Photoshop\Setup.exe sometimes nothing happens, then 10 minutes later the opening screen shows up, click NEXT, then accept the T&Cs, then the progress bar shows no progress. <CTRL><ALT><DEL> shows not responding. There are a couple of FAQs relating to permissions. This computer has a single user and in Control Panel - User Accounts - this account is the administrator. not alone, unless the problem was with a component instead of an installer confusion in the temp folder.

I usually leave mine alone too- well every now and then. just delete all the files from them you can (c:\docs & settings\user\local settings\temp, c:\temp, c:\windows\temp)
usually there's no problem but occasionally an installer will leave part of itself in temp where by odd coincidence (or not so odd, because there are relatively few install apps that systems use - wise and install shield probably 2 of the most used) has a file that's got the same name as one the new installer expects. so it starts reading from that one instead. now the whole install gets screwy.

yes, me too. saves time when troubleshooting and the app that fails to install keeps deleting the install files! :)

oh, i misunderstood. i thought you were advocating KEEPING that new admin user as the main user. that's what i mean is a pita having to move settings over from the old acct. to the new one... i guess that CAN work, sometimes, but not always. some apps (not sure if photoshop is among them) want you to install under the user account that will be running it.
just another tool to keep in the arsenal... :)

After installing Windows XP SP3, iTunes and Quicktime crash at startup

I use iTunes almost every day, and until now have had almost no problems. But as of Sunday afternoon 5/11/2008, I found iTunes crashed on startup. Soyon after, I discovered Quicktime had the same problem. For both apps, I tried rebooting, upgrading, uninstalling/reinstalling, running Norton 2008 virus scan and registry cleaner. Same problem no matter what I did.
I just noticed, though, that my Windows Update (which I have naively set to automatic) history shows that, on that same day, it automatically installed Windows XP SP3. Coincidence... hmm.
So while I patiently wait for the uninstaller to complete the removal of SP3, I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar problems.

0) Removed SP3.
1) Removed all of the following:
Apple Mobile Device Support
Apple Airport Express
Apple Software Update
Bonjour
Quicktime
iTunes
2) Deleted all remaining folders related to the above apps from c:\Program Files.
3) Ran Norton 360 (2008) registry cleanup.
4) Ran Norton 360 (2008) virus scan (nothing found).
5) Deleted the following folders (Angela is the user account):
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer
c:\Documents and Settings\Angela\Application Data\Apple
c:\Documents and Settings\Angela\Application Data\Apple Computer
c:\Documents and Settings\Angela\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple
c:\Documents and Settings\Angela\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer
6) Rebooted.
7) Downloaded and installed iTunes 7.6.2.
8) Rebooted (just coz I love rebooting).
9) Tried to execute iTunes, get error dialog: "QuickTime Player has encoutered a problem and needs to close."
10) Tried to execute QuickTime, get same dialog.
At this point I'm thinking I've got a bad DLL under c:\Windows...
