T60p - XP Product Key Label

I need to reinstall Windows XP Pro on my TP and am required to enter my product key, which is on the label on the bottom of the TP.  Unfortunately, the label has been worn away such that the Product Key is now illegible.  I called Lenovo on the assumption they kept the ProdKey associated with the serial number of my machine ... apparently they don't.
Anyone have ideas on who to call to find out what Prod Key is linked to my machine?
Surely, a label prone to wear and tear is not the only place this info is stored?
I now know to write down all such info, but it never occurred to me at the time, that the label would wear away.

OEM XP product key is useless for activating the retail XP OS. The Lenovo thinkpad XP recovery media is activated by VLK (volume license key).
OS authenticity labels have alway been placed under the computer, this was the standard practice in those days. Only recently has the computer manufacturer started placing them within the battery compartment.

  • After restore product key is invalid

I have an A505-S6992 laptop.  Normally I would just wipe the drive and install a clean copy of 7 but the product key label is faded.  So I purchased restore discs, but now when I go to activate my Win 7 it says it's invalid and to enter in a good key or purchase a new copy.  What can I do here?

The Windows laid down when you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media is preactivated.

  • Qosmio X300-15U - Product key for Windows 7 upgrade disk

    Hello All,
    firts post here :)
I have a Qosmio X300 15U, and just bought DVD upgrade for the OS: from Vista64 to Win 7 (home premium).
I got it by Toshiba Winodws 7 upgrade site.
I installed the upgrade and it's working fine, so far.
Only possible problem for the future, is that I cannot seem to find the Windows 7 product key label attached on the DVD paper case (probably lost it)
I have the DVD (for other serials, or so...)
Does anybody know if it's possible to make Toshiba support, send my old Windows 7 product Key or a new one (just in case of reinstall...)
It also appears that Microsoft has validated my install through their Tool (WGA, I think)
Do I need to revert to MS (paid) assistance, for such a (simple, to me) case?
    Hope Not.
    Thanks a lot.
    Bye,
    Diego

I don't know if Toshiba can send you a new productkey-label, you should call the helpdesk. But to find your productkey you need a key finder tool.
Try [this link|http://pcsupport.about.com/od/productkeysactivation/tp/topkeyfinder.htm] for a list of those programs.

  • T510 - No label with product key numbers for Windows 7

I just noticed that my T510 does not have the Product key numbers for the installed OS (Windows 7 64-bit), which I find quite strange. My previous three T machines, both from IBM and Lenovo, all have those labels n the back.
What is going on and what are the possible implications?
Thanks for any enlightenment on this issue.

  • Worn out label ; need product key

I am using HP Pavilion dv6-3216us Entertainment Notebook PC
I formatted my  C drive to install fresh Win7 as the recovery manager failed to update  , but the product key on the rear got worn out , some of the product key characters are not clear.HP team would be able to provide me the product key???

    No they won't.
Best solution is using a tool like Windows Loader that will simply add the OEM cert files to your install making it validate to your genuine SLIC2.1 BIOS.
More manual way is in link below:
    http://techdoors.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/activating-windows-7-oem-way/
    HP won't help you & MS won't too .
People with stickers want take pic when new & email it to yourself or duplicate the serial on a sticker & put it in battery bay.
The standard new OEM stickers are very poor quality ...

Once the label is worn, you cannot get another key for free. You are better to order a recovery disc set from HP, then you dont need a key
You can order HP recovery media below, or call HP on the phone to order 1-800-474-6836

  • Need my Windows XP product key - moved hard drive to another machine

My Media Center motherboard died and I took the hard drive out of the system that had an AMD processor and put it into a system that has an Intel processor.  Now Windows at start-up wants me to activate this copy of Windows XP as if it was the first time it was being used.  My system serial number is {Personal Information Removed} and the product number is EK425AA-ABA and I originally purchased it on 3-3-2006.  This computer did not come with original Microsoft Windows XP discs.  The recovery program was located on the "D" drive.  So I have no way of supplying the Product Key when prompted.  HELP!!!!

    Hi:
Unfortunately, we cannot provide any assistance, as what you have done is a violation of the Microsoft OEM operating system license agreement you accepted when you first used your original PC.
You can find more info at the link below about this.
    http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/pages/licensing_faq.aspx#fbid=vATwpDCXrDL
The section that is applicable to your situation is as follows:
    Transfer of license
    Q. Can my customers transfer or sell their OEM software licenses?
    A. After an OEM software license has been installed on a PC, the license may not be installed on or transferred to another PC. However, the entire PC may be transferred to another end user along with the software license rights. When transferring the PC to the new end user, the software media, manuals (if applicable), and Certificate of Authenticity label must be included. It is also advisable to include the original purchase invoice or receipt. The original end user cannot keep any copies of the software.

  • Dear board- microsoft product key

Hi guys, I recently restored my wifes laptop, cq61 laptop 117TU,
it has vista home basic, the product key has worn out specfically the last set of numbers.(stupid me should have got it before restoring). how can I go about getting this from HP? I called microsoft they told me to contact my manufacturer. Im happy to send an email with a photo of the label for proof aswell.
    TJ

Which type of restore did you perform?
If it was a factory image recovery, then there shouldn't have been a need tfor you to have to enter the liicense key manually.
Why not try the recovery again?
If you are still stuck with the same isssue then contact HP directly. You will need to give the service engineer the serial number of the notebook. There is no guarantee that HP will still be able to help you as Microsoft Vista and your notebook no longer have warranty after all of these years. Your best bet may be to find a version of Vista that someone has for sale including  the license COA sticker.

  • Helix Windows 8 product key

I activated the Windows 8 automatically on a new Helix. Now, I need to find the Windows product key to make a recovery drive. Where can I find the key? There used to be a sticker under the chassis. But the Helix (being a tablet) has no stickers anywhere. When I check on
Control Panel-> System and Security-> Action Center-> Windows Activation, it only shows part of the key
    "Current product key *****-CPKV2"
That's frustrating. Why doesn't it show the whole thing? What's so secret about it? I bought the software! It's mine, why can't I have the key?

Knowing that your OEM copy of Win8 is tied to the motherboard, what happen when you replace it?
That's a good question, for which I don't have an answer. Apologies...
My post was specific to the OP's indication of wanting the key in conjunction with making a recovery 'drive', and then a possible use of it, which should not require any key entry.
    Cheers.

  • No Windows product key

I am sure this has been asked a million times...  But here goes again..
To start, I dropped my laptop (dv6, not sure on exact model) and it will not boot up.  It owers on ok, but will not load windows.  I tried to google a million solutions and found on here somewhere that if I am getting the 303 error when I try to test the the hd that it is most likely toast.
So, I guess that I need to order a new hd and I have found some on ebay.  Now, my question is.. I assume that I will need to order some windows recovery disks online (can I burn these anywhere?  we have several other computers that I could use for this).  But, once I have the recovery disks, how can I install windows if the product key on the sticker is not readable?  I actually have no idea how to use the recovery disks either, but I am hoping there is a walk through someplace for that too.
I tried to use ubuntu to recover info on my hd with no luck so I do not know if there is any way to get the product key from the computer itself?
Please keep in mind that I am SUPER green when it comes to all of this, but I am really trying to avoid having to take this somewhere and pay anymore for my mistake
BUT... I do also have another older HP (different model) that is dead that has a windows 7 key, can I just use that key?  Thanks in advance!  Kristin

    Hi:
Below is the link to the support and driver page for your PC.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=5193743&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&task=
The link to the service manual is below.
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02842252/c02842252.pdf
Looking at chapter 4, starting on page 62, you will find the hard drive removal and replacement procedures.
There does not appear to be any other cable to remove but the one mentioned on page 63.
If you removed and reseated that, and the drive is not working, then most likely the drive is bad.
There is no other way that I know of to check if something else is bad unless you install another sata notebook hard drive, and test it.
Since you have to use recovery disks to install a new hard drive (unless you buy a whole new copy of Windows 7), you need to purchase a hard drive of at least the same size storage capacity (750 GB) as the one that has presumably died on you, or the recovery disks will not work.
Below is the link to order recovery disks. Click on the link below, and then click on the link labeled Order Recovery Media.

  • I am trying to Install CS5.5 on a new computer and it is saying my product key is valid but a qualifying product cannot be found.

I have Adobe CS 5.5 with a valid product key (On the original box) but it wont install on my new work computer. This product is owned by my company and has been used in the past on my old computer.
I enter the product key and get the customary Green Check Mark:
I Click "Next" and it displays the screen below. I do not have any CS 5.5 programs installed on this computer. (It is brand new - opened and set up this morning)
I used this disk to install CS5.5 on my previous computer which has crashed and did not need to Upgrade anything. I do not have any other product keys to use for the second box and I have found nothing on this problem in the forums.
Any help is appreciated, I am at a loss.

Never share your serial number in a public forum or other non-private communication.
For the second image you show you need to follow the instructions.
You copy of CS5.5 appears to be an upgrade version.  THis means it was made available at a reduced price because you had an earlier version that you upgraded from.  The second image you show is asking you to provide the information for that older version as proof that you qualify to activate/use the new one.

  • Product Key and Phone-in Windows Validation

Hello I have installed Win10 Eval on two different computers,
the other day the first one decided to update itself to the latest version.
Upon completion, it started to ask for Windows Validation, so I did a search
to get the appropriate key and entered it with success using the "slui 3" command.
So  I decided to try the "slui 4" command and got the expected dial 800 # to automated phone support.
I called in and entered all the digits from all the boxes, and started to enter the valid codes in their A-G boxes,
except that there is supposed to be an H box, and there was none. I did this twice.
Even got the live person elevated phone support, they then transferred me to something called option 4 I think,
but the phone dialer didn't transfer the call properly, and the call was dropped.
Basically this is just to let you know that Box H was missing, but the dropped support call could be an issue as well.
I love the way the latest build installs straight from the disk, clean.
I also think that it comes off as very intuitive even as its installing, no more boring status bars, praying for it to reach the other side!!
    Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the opportunity to help.
    Ant

.................ok so on the clean install, it seems to have activated itself without asking for the key entry.
That is the way it should be. By default, it is supposed to activate automatically. Only in rare circumstance one would be asked to enter the product key.
................is there any way to prevent it from doing it.
I'm sorry. I don't understand the question. Preventing it to do What ?
Prevent it from asking to activate ? If yes, like I said, it is supposed to get activated automatically.
................I will try again just to be sure.
You find enjoyment installing, don't you ? 2 hours of installing is not my cup of tea.
    Well, enjoy.
