T61 Buzz coming from upper left hand side when on battery power.

I have had 2 or 3 T61's exhibt the same problem. When the laptop is on battery power, I hear a very annoying buzzing noise coming from the upper left hand corner of the laptop. It seems to originate right next to the exhaust vent next to the speaker. Does anyone know what can be causing this? I have the most recent BIOS update as well. The second the unit is plugged back into A/C power, the sound disappeares.
Its driving me crazy!!

This is a hardware problem or glitch with the older Core 2 Duo processor, it was industry wide problem, there is no real fixes for it, other than to turn power saving features off and put the processor at max performance on battery.

  • IPod "FastForward" icon upper left-hand side

I have a "double play" like icon (or fast-forward icon) on the upper left-hand side of my iPod display, where the play icon used to be, this "new" icon is always on, even when I connect my iPod to my iBook, it remains on top of the revolving circle icon that comes up when the "Do not disconnect" display is on. This icon doesn't interfere with any other iPod function, I can still play, view, transfer files on and of my iPod, but I'm sure this icon wasn't there before. Does anybody know what this icon means? what is best, How can I get rid of it?
I'm using a 20 GB iPod Photo (or color display).

I'm having the same problem. Any idea how to fix it?

  • "  E  "  indicator upper left hand side?

Can someone help me on what does it mean with an " E " indicator on the upper left hand side of the screen?

That's interesting. I thought that a blank square with no 'E' was a bug but turns out that it means 'GPRS' network. Maybe they could have put a 'G' in the square. That raises another issue in that I thought that GPRS was 3G but when I looked it up, it's also 2.5G (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPRS). Shows how little I know :^(

  • My late 2010 MBP is having a noise on the upper left hand side while starting up. is that from the internal fans or the HDD? is it cause for worry? am i going to lose the comp or the data?

there is a noise from the upper left side of the machine at the time of starting up? is that from the HDD or the motherboard fan or the processor fan? recently my 3.5 year old HP laptop crashed and it was only later that i came to know that the heating issues had led to the motherboard being affected. i want to avoid such problems with my MBP.
i would be grateful if some one could reassure me as to the probabilities of the problem which i am facing from the machine. the noise mentioned above is mostly at start up but at times also at the time of running of the machine though more intermittently so.

Are you still under warranty? If so, call Apple and report the problem and get a case number. If you do have a hardware problem, a case number will document that it originally occurred under warranty, and Apple will honor your warranty until the problem is fixed.
You can also run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test. It will be on one of the grey system discs that originally came with your computer. On your model, it may also be possible to boot to it by holding down "D" as you boot up. If the AHT detects a hardware problem with your fan or hard drive, you will get an error code.
Alternatively, if you have access to an Apple Store, you can make an appointment at the genius bar and have a hardware test run.
There is also a utility you can run which will give a good check on the physical health of your hard drive:
    http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php
SMART Utility seems to be a bit more critical than Disk Utility, and may be able to detect impending drive failure sooner. You can download the demo and run it several times for free.
Also, here's a link where you can listen to failing hard drive sounds:
    http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php
If you do have a hardware problem, a hardware test should detect it. If it's a fan, you want to replace it ASAP. If it's one of two, wouldn't hurt to replace both of them.
If the hardware tests don't show anything, you may have some other problem like maybe a bit of trash or debris caught up in your fan which is making noise. It wouldn't hurt to keep tabs on your fans with something like iStatPro.
    Good luck!

  • How do you get the red light to flash in the upper left hand side of the  Iphone4S so I know when I have a email or txt?

How do your get the red flashing light to occur in the left corner of the iPhone 4S so I know when I have a email, txt or message left?

If you want to be reminded on unread mails or messages, you can set the alert to repeat. There's no flashing red light. http://iphone-and-i.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-customize-notification-center-in .html

  • A small symbol has come up on my i phone 4 left hand side of the battery. looks like a small padlock with an arrow going round it. i cannot seem to get rid of it? it was not there originally. i understand its the lock that stops the screen rotating.

A small symbol has come up to the left of the battery symbol. i have found out that this is the screen rotation lock. not sure hoe this has been turned on and i cant seem to turn it off. I read that there is a button above the volume control on the i pad which turns it off, but this does not work on the i phone4?

    Try this:
-double click the Home button: this will make the System Tray appear at the bottom of the screen.
-if you do not see the screen orientation lock button then flick to the right: once you see the screen orientation lock button, just tap it. That will change it back.
    I hope this helps!

  • White glow appearing from left hand side

I've a MBP 4.1 which I bought in December 2009. Back then I noticed a small white glow which emitted from the left hand side, this was not very noticeable whilst the MBP was on full brightness with a non black background, so it didn't really bother me.
However it has now grown dramatically (see pic). The wallpaper used here is the standard earth one in OSX.

    What is it?
    Kind regards,
    Emmett

    Hi Emmett,
It's a light leak (a defect in the LCD panel).

If that's the case, you must have time travel technology, so I would think you also have the technology to fix this problem on your own.
However, assuming you meant December 2008, you'll need something more mundane. You are covered by warranty so I'd recommend calling AppleCare or visiting an Apple Store.

Sounds like the disk in your MBP is accessing data on wake up
If you are still concerned you can take it into the Apple Store where they can hear it to be sure

  • I have a iphone 4s, i am struggling to put music on my phone the phone icon isnt coming up on the left hand side, does anyone know how i do it? thankyou

i have a iphone 4s, i am struggling to put musicon my phone through itunes, the phone icon isnt coming up on the left hand side, does any one know how to help? thankyou

The icon Photos is the Photo library, and also where the photos from your camera roll are stored. That is a native iOS app and cannot be deleted.
The syncing of photos to your phone happens in iTunes. You can remove the photos that were synced by reversing the process. Connect the phone to iTunes, select the device in iTunes and go to the photo tab in iTunes. Remove the checkmark by the photo folders that have been synced and re-sync. That will remove the photos.

Formatting on several websites is incorrect. Everything loads on the left hand side one after the other. Clearing 'Everything' from the search history fixes the problem temporarily, for a very short time. I've been using Firefox for years and I've only recently been getting this problem. It's been happening on both Windows 7 and 8. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but this problem has only arose since I upgraded to fiber power broadband, 100Mb. The link below is just one of many.

Thanks for the advise. I already tried Safe Mode and the problem persists though...

  • How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon.

With respect, you actually cannot store folders on the left side of the Dock - only on the right side. I wonder if you're talking about Launchpad, which looks like a silver rocket and shows you your installed applications? It's not actually a shortcut to the Applications folder, though. You can certainly drag Launchpad into the left side of the Dock from the Applications folder.
