T61 connected to TV

I have a T61 laptop with a VGA port. I would like to connect it to a 42" plasma high-definition TV with HDMI / Composite Video/ Component Video inputs.  I realize I'd need some kind of converter. There are numerous choices (e.g. at newegg.com). Does anyone have a good recommendation? I would naturally prefer to get the best resolution from the T-61 that has the standard 1280x800 max resolution. Welcome any education... Thanks.

The only way to connect laptop to TV would be through VGA converter , as you mentioned. Since Lenovo removed S-video output (somehoe I remember having that s-video out in my T41) . But once you get the converter - you will be able to set any resolution, supported by the Video Card - I have 2046/1536 availble , but it will depend on wether your TV supports it - you'll have to read the specs for the TV.
Of course , since you don't need such resolution on the laptop screen ( and it would'nt support it anyway ) - using video-driver options , you will have to set "output to external monitor" option on.
hope this helps.

  • T61 connectivity problems

Having replaced my network router from Netgear DG834NB to Netgear FVS336G the T61 lacks internet connectivity. Local networking via the integrated Intel 82566 Gigabit network device is possible. ipconfig, ping and any higher local access works fine. But the T61 cannot connect outside the LAN.
Since the problems do not occure from other local computers the router configuration seems to be fine. ISP login is properly defined and WAN connections run perfectly from other computers. So the T61 seems to be the problem.
The T61 runs with WinXP. System has recently been reset to the original configuration using the recovery media and then updated with ThinkVantage. So the drivers should be up to date.
Being rather a network user than an expert I desperately need assistance in checking the network driver options to be set in the right way.
Anybody any idea where to look next?
    Thanks in advance,
    Stefan.

I had a similar problem using wireless connections and switching router. My problem was solved when I updated the network adapter driver to newest level. Have you tried that ?

  • How connect T61 with docking to HDTV

    Hi,
I have a T61 Thinkpad laptop and trying to connect to my Panasonic Plasma HDTV.
I have my T61 connected to my dock which has a dvi output. I used a DVI to HDMI connector cable to connect to a female to female HDMI connector, which is connect to the HDMI cable from my HDTV. When I connect everything and turn it on, I get no video signal. I tried everything like hitting Fn + F7, and other F keys.. no video signal.
I upgraded the OS on my laptop to Windows 7.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Do you have any way to run dual headed? If you can get a monitor and the trouble TV running at the same time with the monitor as the primary display, you should be able to control Display Preferences for the TV from the monitor. If you select a working resolution for the TV while in such a configuration, the Mac should thereafter remember that setting so that when you restart with only the problem TV hooked up, you should get a useable resolution.

  • Enable auto connection with Access Connections?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to make my T61 connect to my mobile broadband internet connection automatically when coming out of sleep and/or hibernate? Can it be done through Access Connections? I'm running the latest AC on Vista 64.

You can set Access Connections to connect to your WAN if none of the other wireless profiles are available.
Open Access Connections and in the upper right, switch from Basic to Advanced.
Go to the Tools tab and click on  Location Switching.
The bottom check box can be set "When no other connections are available, connect through WAN or WiMax"
    Set that and click Ok.

  • [T410] discrete gfx - Problem with Video Card and Windows Aero -anyone using 4Gb memory modules?

    [3/3/2010 Update]
There's a issue of using 4Gb sticks on T410 currently that results in video output artifacts and aero interface problems when using Lenovo supplied drivers v8.16.11.8825. I think I can call it confirmed (Three people including me face this issue).
Possible workaround is to install modified EliteBook 8440p video driver (read along this thread) comes with a BIG drawback of not being able to change brightness level within Windows 7. To sweeten it a little bit - you can set luminance level at POST screen, when computer boots up.

Encountered strange behavoir of my T410.
I have a T410 with 256Mb of Video Memory and 1440x900 display, a T61 with 128Mb of Video Memory and 1400x1050 dsplay and external monitor HP w2338h with 1920x1080 resolution.
If I connect external monitor to my T410 and launch Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 - image blinks and comes back with Aero disabled. Looking through event logs reveals the lack of memory. Entry information can be found further.
Now If I do the same with my old Thinkpad T61, connect the same monitor using the same cable - I can open as many Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 instances I like (tried 5) and nothing blinks and Aero stays enabled.
Actually I find ridiculous, a notebook with more VRAM cannot archive the same performance as notebooks with less.
Does anyone know what path should I pursue to solve this issue?
UPDATE: Simply running multiple instances of Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 without external monitor causes Aero disabled as well.

This must be buggy drivers, on Lenovo download site is just the one and the only initial driver for T410 graphics card.
What software were you actively using when this error occured?

  • Two T61's - connected, yet not resolving - other computers do

    Hello All,
We have two identical T61's that suddenly stopped (even though connected to the wireless router both wirelessly and hard wired) resolving to anything on the Internet, including email client activity, etc.   Anoher older R52, which I am sending this on is connected the same way and works fine - any ideas?

Hi hamina, welcome to the Lenovo user forums!
To help you with this one the community will need a bit more information.
For example, tell us what you see when they are "stopped", the OS you are using, machine type, whether you are using Access Connections or a firewall, and any other information you think might be relevant.

  • Losing network connection on T61 but still showing that I am connected

    Hello All,
I am having network connection issues with my T61. On any network I connect to, my downloads will randomly stop, or videos I am watching will stop loading, same with online radio, etc...
The connection will resume after about 30 seconds of being lost but is a major pain especially if I am on a vpn and have to log back in.
My network connection never reports any problems and the icons still show that I am connected.
I have reinstalled all my drivers, ran multiple spyware/virus detection, and tried to trace my network activity with no luck.
The interesting part is that if I am using skype voice my issues disappear. It seems as though the deluge of packets sent by skype forces my connection to stay alive.
Any thoughts? (other than talk to someone on skype all day)
Edit: This happens while using wireless and LAN connection

Make sure data roaming and cellular data is turned off.  If you don't want to receive calls or SMS then put your phone in airplane mode and reactivate WiFi

  • Connect to 32" LCD TV from Lenovo T61 with a VGA connector

    Hi,
I am trying to connect to 32" LCD TV 1080P from T61 with a VGA connector. When I do (Fn+Ctrl+F7) I can see the T61's output on my TV if I set T61's display setting as 1280x768. Then If I increase the resolution on the TV the screen becomes black. I want to change the display setting to 1920x1080 so that I can see output as full screen on my TV.
    Notebook setting as follows
    Color Quality - 32 bit
    Refresh Rate - 60 Hertz
How can I change the screen resolution?

Most likely the TV won't support higher resolutions via the VGA connector. But there is a workaround.
After spending several hours at a TV store last October, we found an obscure reference in the TV's manual stating this limitation. We also discovered that HDMI will support the max resolution. The T61p docking station has a DVI port that outputs a signal that can be converted to HDMI. We bought a DVI-to-HDMI conversion plug ($75) and took the docking station, conversion plug and an HDMI cable back to the store. Worked great so we bought the 65" LCD for trade shows. There are some settings to play with on both the T61p and the TV that will increase the image clarity significantly. The image is stunning at full res.

  • T61 USB problems when connecting to Blackberry

Up until a few weeks ago I could sync my Curve8310 to my T61 via USB.  Now the desktop manager can't find the phone.  I've gotten replacement Blackberry because we thought it was the phone, but still won't detect.  I've re-installed desktop manager, but still won't detect.  My admin can login to the laptop and can connect and sync.  We set my account to admin status and still can't connect.  Any ideas?

    Does anyone know it?

  • T61 - wireless weak/limited connectivity - ruled out all else

Argh, T61 working fine with various wireless connections until about 2 months ago - no change in settings that I can pinpoint. I have checked Linksys router and cable company. Colleague runs her computer fine 3 feet from me(Dell). I tried the repair option but no go. So I have done all standard ipconfig/[..] stuff. I have downloaded updates. I have chanted(ok just kidding). Today I did a Network diagnostic scan and the DNSServer search order failed on a ping thing. Interesting because it said it was not getting the received packets. When I look at my connection I see there is activity being sent but very little coming back. Outlook, etc are all painfully slow, and then they give up the ghost.

go into your control panel, system, hardware property, right click on your wireless card. Make sure the power output is maximum, roaming aggressiveness low, and windows power saving feature is off.

  • T61 - WWAN does not connect when resuming from sleep mode

    Hi.
I have a T61 with integrated WWAN, which works perfectly - except I use sleep mode a lot, and when i resume from sleep mode, WWAN doesn't connect, I always get the same error - IP configuration failed. If I restart my OS, WWAN works normally again.
So far i have tried on Windows XP, Vista 32, Vista 64 and Windows 7 32 bit - always the same!
I connect via Access Connections, maybe there is a known issue?
    Thank you, B

This bugs me as well.  With the new Verizon software I just installed, it says "Adapter Disabled" when I resume from sleep.
I suspect a driver bug that needs to be adressed.
I use Vista Business 32bit, but had the same problem with XP.

  • How connect T60 or T61 to HDTV?

In our house we have a T60 and a T61. Would like to connect to our HDTV to play video in high def.
Please let me know the best way to do this. We are willing to buy a reasonably priced PC card or USB device to provide the necessary high-def outputs; would be nice if you could recommend a setup that works.
    Thanks!

On a T30 with the mini-dock, I used the DVI output on the dock and a $16 10ft. DVI to HDMI cable:

with good results on my HDTV (but slow CPU).  This is one approach that wouldn't require any special 3rd party device or device drivers, just a thought.
Another approach, at the other end of the spectrum, is something like this (but I haven't tried):
    http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/hands-on-with-the-asus-xg-station-external-gpu/
My own luck with a T41 with and a VTBook
    http://www.villagetronic.com/e_products.html
didn't go well, nuisance driver issues on XP, and slow (PCMCIA limitations), but I did hear a while back that  this company may be working on an expresscard version.
I also tried PCI graphics cards with the T41 in a full dock, major hassles with Nvidia and ATI cards I tried (not to mention heat).
Tried PCI Express video cards in full dock on T61p, even worse problems with Vista given some changes made to different vendor chipsets, and couldn't undock without shutdown, gave that up.
    I hope this info helps!
