T61 constantly freezing when plugged in, works on battery power

Hi,
Recently I  had my hard drive replaced at an authorized ThinkPad computer center.  Things have been working fine for over a month.  Recently, I have had the same problem with my laptop.  When it is running on battery power, everything works smoothly.  Once I plug it in to charge, everything locks up and freezes within 10 seconds without fail.  This occurs every time.  Even if I put my T61 to sleep or hibernate it, and then start charging, it will not work.  I am forced to unplug it and take out the battery and try again.  If I start with the computer off but plugged in and boot up Vista, it will either not start up or freeze once I log-in.
Thank you for help in advance.

  • T410s - new - freezes when plugged in to A/C power.

New T410s out of the box will freeze within 10 minutes of booting into the Windows 7. It does not appear to freeze when running on Battery.  All Lenovo update and Microsoft updates have been applied.

So it seems I am not the only one with this problem then! My T410s freezes on average every two to three hours. If it is running on battery or not doesn't seem to make a difference. I have installed all new windows and lenovo updates (including a bios update, which by the way solved an annoying problem of letters being scrambled when typing at very high speed). Interestingly, a friend of mine got a T410s at about the same time as I did, and it suffers from the same problems.
So what seems to be going on? It seems unlikely to be a heat issue, as the system has actually frozen a couple of times within seconds of coming back from hibernation. I am afraid if I send my T410s for repair it will come back in the same state. It seems difficult to pinpoint the cause of these errors.
Another problem I have with this computer (which is probably better to discuss in another thread) is a rather loud high pitch noise when running on battery. From what I can tell it stems from the cpu power management (disabling cpu power management removes the noise, but at the cost of half the battery life). As I have had the chance to compare two T410s's side by side I know that this high pitch noise is more audible in some computers than others. Another interesting observation when comparing the two T410s's is the difference in display calibration, where my friends T410s had a very strong green tint compared to mine. From what I can tell from the viewing angles the panel seems to be of the same type.
I can't help myself but to mention yet another problem with the two T410s's I have seen. It does unfortunately not sit 100% flat on the table. Within days of use the lower left corner will be hoovering I'd say about 1mm-1.5mm above the table. It might have something to do with the slightly unusual placement of the battery and thermal expansion/contraction.
If the two first problems I mentioned could somehow be fixed I'd be happy. Everything else about this computer seems to be excellent.

My adobe acrobat XI Pro has been constantly freezing when I open documents. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, changed some settings based on community threads, nothing is working. I have to close the document, open it back up and wait at least 60 seconds before I can do anything. I use Adobe pdfs for everything this is very bad. I am using MS Office 365, and Adobe CC on Windows 8.1.

  • MacBook Pro Mid 2012 freezes when plugged in

Hi. My Mid 2012 MBP which runs on Yosemite 10.10.2 keeps freezing even when just browsing on Chrome so I uninstalled Chrome and used Safari. I was still having problems after switching browsers so I restored my device to its factory settings but the restore did not solve my problem. All this time my device was plugged in so I unplugged it and tried to browse. It did not freeze or crash. I read the forums and found out about the SMC reset and a NVRAM reset but my device is still freezing when plugged in. I am typing this while my MBP is unplugged. Please help.

    Reset the SMC again:

    Then try s safe boot:

    Any change?

  • Contacts constantly freezes when opening an intelligent group

    Hi,
my Contacts-App constantly freezes when I try to open an intelligent group (which seems to be emtpty). I've deletet the prefs with no effect…
    can anybody help?

    Back up all data.
Quit Contacts or Address Book if it’s running. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloudpreference pane.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it, then copy it (command-C) to the Clipboard:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, paste (command-V) into the box that opens, and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
Relaunch the application and test. If there’s no improvement, quit and put back the item you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item.

The origianl mother to be replace is due to can't power on after a power failure recovery. I believe was due to power surge killed the motherboard's power controller circuitry.
Appreciate any one can provide clue for resolving the problem.
I have tried to install speedfan to try my luck, but it can't any fan in the application to configure. (Bios Version F50)

  • Why do firefox CONSTANTly, again, CONSTANTLY freeze when I am doing things???? It is irritating and needs to be fixed right now. I am always forced to restart and lose whatever I was doing.

Whenever I am in my online school, the site CONSTANTLY freezes up on me. Fix this now.

Please believe that the problem is with your set-up not Firefox.
I think you are going to have to work your way through this(Safe Mode, Problematic Extensions etc) - there is no magic button -

Make sure your plug-ins(such as Flash, which isn't) are up-to-date.

  • T440s Freezes when plugged in to AC

I have seen a problem like this posted online, but cannot find an answer. My T440s will boot up, and then the screen will stay black unless I unplug the computer, then it will finish booting to the windows screen. It also freezes if it is left not used for a few hours, plugged in, despite me having set hibernate to never when plugged in. If i unplug the computer it seems to be more responsive. I have restored to factory setting with the original CDs but It still happens. Any suggestions? Is this a hardware or software problem? I have two OEM Lenovo plugs and it happens with both so I do not think it is the Adaptor. I also use at work and home and the same thing happens, so I doubt it is a outlet / power problem. Thanks

They told me to upgrade the bios. I'm waiting for the intermittent problem to happen again. What hardware part do you think it is
I completely agree with Skoop's comment. Updating BIOS on a machine that is having power issues risks bricking the machine. I would call them back and explain that you can't update the BIOS because the machine doesn't even boot successfully with the adapter attached, as you've described in your first post.
For reference, from the readme file, the first item in the BIOS update instruction sequence is: "Firmly connect the AC adapter to your ThinkPad computer.".
As to what hardware may be at issue? Anything I'd say would be a wild guess.
    Regards.

  • IPhoto 9.4.2 constantly freezes when I try to look at photos or videos

iPhoto 9.4.2 freezes when trying to open photos or videos preview show up fine but actually opening them to zoom or opening the video causes a freeze and many time it also causes a crash...
Ps I already rebuilt the library... Didn't work any other ideas would be helpful.

If you have gone through all 4 iPhoto first aid steps, and the issue is not resolved, you can try one other option.  It involves downloading a 3rd party software entitled "iPhoto Library manager".  You may find it will help.   If it does not, then we would use the restore from time machine.
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
              2. Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
              3. Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
              4. In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
              5. Click on the Create button.
If we need to use time machine........
    - close all open applications
    - in the top menu bar, select "go", then select home, then pictures
    - here you should see your current "problem" iPhoto Library
    - click on it once, hit return on your keyboard, and it will allow you to rename your iPhoto Library.  I suggest you rename it to iPhoto Library old
    - once renamed, open it, then go to "file / switch to library".
    - in the new screen, select to "create a new" iPhoto Library
    - by default, it will call it "iPhoto Library" and place it in your pictures folder
    - when this new library launches, it will be totally blank and have no images in it
    - quit iPhoto
    - launch time machine
    - in the right side, go back to a previous date.  This will make the finder window from this date come to the forground.  In that window, select your pictures folder, then click on the "iPhoto LIbrary" once, then click restore in the bottom right
    - you will get a dialogue stating that "there is already something there called iPhoto Library".  Tell it to replace it

  • Quick Time screen capture freezes when i'm working with Modo 3D. Any solution?

Hi guys,   When I'm working with Luxology Modo, Quick Time screen capture freezes every time on Mac OS X Mavericks. When I'm doing some operation in Modo, like slice geometry per exemple, QuickTime crashes. I must force quit quicktime and when I relauch the application, the screen capture opens but screen capture ends at the time when I cliked on the Modo slice operation. It's frustrating because I can't do nothing with screen capture.  I tried other screen capture applications but the problem persists! When I was using Snow Leopard Quick Time works very well!!   Do you have some resolution for this problem?   Regards,   César.

I'm using OS X Mavericks as well, and it seems like the same thing happens when I try to type in MonoDevelop, part of the Unity package. Unity works fine, it only seems as though I can't screen record typing in MonoDevelop. It looks like it's still recording, it just has the rainbow wheel of death after I try to finish out the Quicktime. I left it up for several days and ignored it, but it still didn't finish. I finally had to force quit it and reopen it and when I did it opened up the temporary file of the video I was recording, but it stopped whenever I started to type into the MonoDevelop interface. The first time it let me save the video to the desktop. The second time, the time which I left it open for days, it would not let me save it, on command-S or on exit. I don't know exactly what's wrong, but I believe that you know as much as I do. Please post a reply if you need any more information or have a fix.

  • IPod nano freezing when plugged into Belkin Tunecast

Everything has been working fine with my ipod nano 3rd generation until recently. I tried to plug it into the tunecast in my car and the ipod froze. I've tried resetting it and this still happens. A different ipod has been working fine with the tunecast which makes me think there is nothing wrong with the belkin but the ipod is fine even when plugged into the computer which makes me wonder which one is not working properly. Any ideas????

I am having this exact same issue with my wife's 3g, 8GB nano and her Monster iCarPlay. the Monster unit and the nano worked fine together for a week or two but now the nano locks up when connected to it. You disconnect the nano and it goes back to working fine. I have reset the nano while both connected and not connected to the Monster and have done a restore in iTunes and I am still having the same issue. I called support and they basically told me to buy a new car adapter. I don't believe this is a good solution since the Monster worked with the nano for a couple of weeks when we first got it and the Monster still works fine with both my wife's and my old ipod mini's. Any suggestions?
