T61 crashed and won't power back on

He guys,
I have a 14" T61 (7662-CTO) that's been with me for 2 years. A few days ago, I was browsing and the laptop got very sluggish for a few minutes and then became unresponsive and crashed. I tried powering it back up, but it doesn't work. The battery, electric supply and power notification lights are all on, but the system doesn't power up. The instant I press the power button, I hear the soundof the CD drive and fan for a brief moment before it's all silent.
I have tried using another battery, another power brick, re-installing my RAM, and switching to another HD, but nothing seems to work. I'm worried that it might be the systemboard that's fried. If that's the case, is it normal for the laptop to slow down before crashing? I'd imagine burning your systemboard would cause a crash instantly.
I've done a lot of research and can't diagnose it exaclty. Also, there are no beeping sounds when I hold down the power buton as is the case with the NVS-140M issue.
Can anyone possibly shed some light on what might be the problem? I'm out of the warranty period and I'd hate to have to part with my ThinkPad, it's still so awesome.

the system may slowdown before a crash, do you have the Nvidia GPU or something? does the laptop beep when you start the laptop without the ram installed?
My T61 was extremely slow and frequently BSOD (which usually proceeded by extreme sluggishness), i tried to reinstall the OS to no avail, and had to send the laptop into the depot.

  • My phone recently crashed and won't turn back on.

My phone ( iPhone 5c, IOS 7.3 ) recently crashed and won't turn back on. I randomly looked at my phone and there were green and red horizontal lines flickering. My immediate thought was to try to turn it off, so i could try to turn it back on. I held the home and power button down and the screen went black. When i tried turning it back on ( holding power button ) there was no response. For the past day, my phone hasn't been responding to anything.
(A day before the crash my phone cracked from a serious fall onto a concrete floor without a case I do not know if this has any relation to the crash )

It most likely has a lot to do with your crash.
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
If this doesn't help, then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • HELP! My phone shutoff by itself and won't power back on!

My iPhone was fully charged and had been working fine all day. I just went to check emails on it and it is completely black. I tried to power it back on and nothing, not even when plugged into the charger. Why would this happen and how can I get it back on? Thanks.

try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

  • IPhone crashed and won't switch back on.

    Hi all,
My iPhone switched itself off (full battery) and now it wont switch back on. Tried holding the lock and home button together for about 15 seconds - that did nothing. Also tried plugging it into my laptop - nothing as well.
Anyone got any suggestions of what to do?
    Cheers

Plug iPhone in with Wall Charger and Reset, hold both the home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until the iPhone begins to respond.

  • Phone Turns Off and Won't Turn Back On

Twice this week my phone has completely powered off while I wasn't using it and won't power back on until i remove the battery.  Very frustrating- I'm wondering if it is overheating although neither time was it hot.  Anyone else have this problem?

How are you charging it by the the charger that came with or by your computer if it is use the charger that come with the phone, there's an app called system panel in the market down load it. It will tell you what the apps are doing an it can tell what &  how much your cpu is doing an it will also tell the temperature of the phone an the battery temp. as well.
But if you can't get it to come on an your under your 14 days don't mess around with it.  return it an get another one or another phone.

There is a thread or two about the home button and how to fix it at least temporally.  It sounds like some people have found it to be a rather permanent fix.  Do search on something like "Home button won't work".  It has something to do with putting the charging cable into the phone and applying a little extra pressure upward on the key.  Don't take my word for it though look for the thread/s.  You said originally that your "Power" button was broken and the thread I have seen is about the Home Button.

  • What's the proper protocol for a reset on my ipod touch 4g?  iOS 6 has totally jacked it up and it will no longer do anything but crash, and won't sync with itunes wirelessly or by cable.

What's the proper protocol for a reset on my ipod touch 4g?  iOS 6 has totally jacked it up and it will no longer do anything but crash, and won't sync with itunes wirelessly or by cable.
It's a 64G ipod touch and was fine till Apple told me to upgrade to ios 6.  Now most of my apps crash, my music won't play and I just get a white screen when I hit Music.
When I try to sync to itunes it acts like it's going to sync and appears to recognize the ipod, but it's grayed out and has an update circle by it that spins for a while until itunes eventually freezes alltogether.  Is there a  way to go back to ios 5 after a erase and reset?

  • My iMac20 powers off by itself and won't switch back on

I'm sorry this is a bit of a saga but I'm at the end of my tether with so will be really grateful if anyone has any experience of this issue and can give me some help?
The problem started in May when, after an hour or so of use, my iMac 20 suddenly started to turn itself off and wouldn't turn back on again until the following day. This happened around half a dozen times so I took the machine to the local Apple store and was told that it was probably the thermal trip and if I removed the power cord and left it disconnected for a while, it would power up again more quickly. That evening when it cut out, I followed the advice I was given and removed the power cord from the back of the machine but it made no difference and the machine would not restart until the following morning. Back to the Apple store I went and this time they took the machine in to the workshop; a day or two later I was told that they had cleaned out the fans and tweaked some software and had run it successfully on the bench for several hours with no problem. After paying £49, I collected the machine, took it home, ran it for an hour or so and off it went again and as before, refused to turn on. Back again to the Apple store; "Had I reloaded the operating system?" Well no, because I hadn't been told that I needed to. And anyway why would I... surely the thermal cut-out was a hardware issue? The response was that the problem was definitely software-based and nothing to do with overheating or a faulty power supply unit (which was/is my favourite candidate for villain of the piece). So off home I went, backed up my stuff and ran Disc One successfully and started running Disc Two. After about 20 minutes into Disc Two the machine did its usual trick and powered off, and I went looking for a bottle of wine.
Back to the Apple store. The guy controlling the 'guest list' for the Genius Bar said that if I wanted to return the machine to the workshop that day it would be considered a new incident and there would be a further charge for any repair work. However, if I made a fresh appointment (for a couple of days later) then the work would be done as part of the previous 'repair'. Somebody at Apple really needs to look at the way the stores deal with dissatisfied customers.
So, Saturday the 11th of July arrives and I head back to the Genius Bar for my free appointment. I explained to a very helpful guy that this is my fifth visit and I would like to get to the bottom of the problem. He referred to the tech person who dealt with the original workshop repair and she came out to explain that the issue is caused by 'something' lurking in my Library folder and that if I wipe my hard drive and re-install the OS from scratch but without the Library folder, the problem should be solved.
I spent Sunday wiping the hard drive, running the OS discs and then reinstating my iTunes, photos etc and waiting for the machine to turn itself off - but it didn't! I left my external hard drive returning all my files and documents overnight and when I woke up on Monday, everything was still up and running... bliss!
Then, this afternoon, after downing loading a music file in flac format, I found that it wouldn't go into iTunes without the help of Fluke software. I downloaded the Fluke stuff and then as I dragged the flac file into iTunes - boof! The machine went off and won't switch back on again.
So finally... has anyone seen any similar behaviour with their iMac and was it caused by software or hardware? And if it is software that's causing the problem, why can't I switch the machine on again immediately?
    ,

Amsys plc, the company Apple uses for off-site repairs returned my iMac20 today and the accompanying advice note states that the fault was resolved by replacing the power supply unit. I am really grateful to Apple for finally getting to the bottom of the problem, particularly as the repair was done free of charge, although I had already paid £49 for a useless workshop investigation at the Kingston store. The service given by Amsys was exemplary... the collection and return of the machine was carried out at the times promised and whenever I contacted the company by phone, each person I spoke to seemed to have knowledge of the repair without having to refer to the case notes (and none of the 'press 1 for service, 2 for sales...' rubbish).
So once again BDAqua, many thanks for suggesting I call Apple... it's just a shame that the staff of the Kingston store refused to accept what was obvious to me.

    Hello untech,
I see that it has been awhile since you have posted with us on the HP Forums.  Please let me take a moment to say "Welcome Back".
I see that you are having an issue with the printer shutting it self off and not powering back on.
By chance do you have the printer power cable connected to a power bar/strip?  If so, please try connecting the printers power cable directly to a wall outlet.  Here is a document that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
The printer in the document is a LaserJet printer but this document is meant for HP products in general and only uses the LaserJet as an example.
I am also going to include a document for when The HP Printer Won't Turn On or Respond When the Power Button is Pressed.
If by chance the issue is not resolved after doing the steps outlined,  I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
