T61 / Finding Networked Printer to install on laptop.

I'm trying to install a network printer on my laptop that is ethernet wired to my router.  I'm trying to install the networked printer on my laptop, but cannot get the software to see the printer on the network.  It can't seem to find it.  I spoke with HP and they didn't want to change settings on laptop, suggested IBM support.  Lenovo offers no support as it's over 1 year.  Any thoughts - ?   They think that it could be a firewall that's blocking the laptop from seeing it.  We disabled windows firewall and norton, to no avail ? HELP ......ideas are welcome.

What operating system do yoyu have installed on your T61?
Its not clear from your message what is "wired" to your router.  Are you connecting your laptop to your router via wired Ethernet connection, or are you connecting via a WiFi connection?
Cheers,
Bill

  • HP Deskjet 3050a cannot find network printer

I need to find out what my IP address is for my printer.  I may have changed it accidently when I was trying to set up my printer to a new router.  I have reset the default settings.  I have tried to go to HP file where it says I can change my IP address and I get the error "cannot find network printer".  I have done all of the obvious deinstall, reinstall, added MAC address to router. Nothing will recognize my printer.  Please help.  Thank you

    Hello again,
OK, thanks for the updated information.  Try these steps...
    Changing wireless settings
If you decide to change the wireless network settings for your wireless home network, you will need to configure your wireless printer with the new settings.
To configure the new wireless settings on a printer that features a Wireless Setup Wizard:
From the printer’s control panel, open the Wireless Settings menu. Many products provide access to the Wireless Settings by pressing the Wireless Button or touching the Wireless icon on the printer’s control panel. Consult the printer’s help documentation if you do not know how to access the Wireless Settings menu.
From the Wireless Settings menu select Wireless Setup Wizard. The Wireless Setup Wizard will guide you through the process of configuring your printer with the new wireless settings. Input your Wireless Network Name and Wireless Password when prompted.
You can print a Wireless Network Test report from the Wireless settings menu to confirm the printer was successfully connected to your network.
To configure your wireless settings on a printer that does not feature a Wireless Setup Wizard:
First, make sure your computer is connected to your network. You will also need a USB cable, which is temporarily used during the configuration. Be sure NOT to connect the USB cable between the computer and printer until instructed to do so by the software.
If your HP printer software is already installed on your computer Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    Use Start -> Programs -> HP -> <your printer model> -> Printer Setup & Software. Windows 8:
Launch the Printer Software from the Start screen (icon for the printer model name) or from the tile named for your printer.
Select (click or touch) Utilities on the top of the Printer Software screen
    Select Printer Setup & Software
    Also,

  • Can't find network printer

I've got a HP Photosmart Plus installed on my network. I install it on every computer in the house (4 computers), and then it works.
But when I close the computer and restart, the computer can't find the printer.
It's still connected to the network, that I can see if I open my router.
The only way is to reinstall the printer, but sometimes the computer can't find the printer to install.
This happens on both W7 oand W8.
    Anyone knows whats wrong.

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here (Windows solution 4, static IP).
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off/Sleep' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going
to the printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer
Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS). Also check your Printers Properties.
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.
    4. If needed and you assigned a static IP address, try using 8.8.8.8 for the Preferred DNS server and
8.8.4.4 at the Alternate DNS server.
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
    5. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    6. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    7. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    8. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    9. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    10. SSID broadcast must be enabled.
    11. Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
    12. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?
Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center/Advanced sharing settings.
Under Home or Work (current profile) / Network Discovery.
Select "Turn on network discovery" and save changes

  • Unable to find network printer HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

    HP Officejet Pro 8600
    Windows 7 64bit
    updated router firmware
Troubleshoot all item s listed by HP and with Windows
I have been unable to print wireless from my laptop. Wireless network test results gives me a pass in all categories. Network name is the same on printer and laptop. IP address on printer and tcp  port are the same. Tried firewall on and off. AVG antivirus on and off. Unplugged printer, router, usb, restarted laptop. Nothing has solved the problem.
I can see that the printer has an ip address. My router has an ip address and my laptop has an ip address. Should they all be different? I am using the ip address from the printer to set up the wireless printing when asked to enter the address.
This has been the most frustrating process I have ever delt with. It should not be this difficult to set up. Please help.
Thank you in advance for a quick solution.

Shurlee, I want you to do is re-run the wireless setup wizard on your printer. Then uninstall it, and reinstall it again using the software I am going to link you to below. From what you describe it sounds like either an installation issue or an issue with your network. If this helps feel free to mark my post by hitting the star below my name which gives me a kudos - kinda like a job well done on here.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it. Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.
Download these files and install them. By the way these are for the N911a, but if you have the 8600 Plus or Premium you will need different drivers.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4323659
Install that and let me know the result!

  • Cannot find network printer

    I have the following problem:
I want to use a printer (HP Officejet 5600 series) in a Windows network. My MacBook is connected to this network by AirPort to a Netgear router. Unfortunately my MacBook cannot find the printer.
    Can anybody help?

Is the printer connected to a P, or directly to the router? Connected via USB or parallel port? If connected to the router, I assume the router has built in print server?
My HP is connected to an Apple Extreme via USB which built in print server. In the Mac, I went to System Preferences, then Print and Fax. When I clicked on the little "+" button on the bottom left (to add a printer), Bonjour was able to find the printer off the Extreme server.
But, I am currently having problems with it - used to work, now quit printing!

  • Unable to find network printer

    Hi All,
I have a Epson Stylus NX125 all-in-on printer/scanner/copier connected via USB to my router, an ASUS RT-N13U SuperSpeed N Wireless.  I have tried to connect to the printer via IP > LPD using the router's IP address, various Queues.  I updated my drivers for the printer, ran a software update check, etc.  Unfortunately, I have not been able to connect to the printer at all.  I have no problems connecting to the internet via wifi.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Mahalo!

My name is Syd and I work for Epson America, Inc.
The Stylus NX125 does not support any type of network printing.  The only type of connection available is USB.  In order to print to the printer you will need to be hard wired with a USB cable.  Unfortunately, your current set up is not something that is supported for this product
    Hope this helped,
    Syd

  • Can't find network printer from Windows XP and Bonjour

Does anyone else have a problem printing to network printers from Windows XP machines? I have Bonjour for windows installed and had been printing fine from my Windows XP machines, but lately the XP machines can't seem to find the printers. They work fine from all the Macs (Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.4). I'm wondering if some recent Windows XP patch broke the network printers or the way the printing system deals with ports that reference hostname.local or how hostname.local works on Window XP. I suppose it could have been a Norton Internet Security update too.
It seems like the XP machines can no longer find printers when they use printerhostname.local for their printer port name
Bonjour can see the printers when it initially starts up an looks for printers. Bonjour even sets up the printer port as:
PrinterName.local using port 9101 /* for an Airport Extreme attached printer */
The only way I can get the printers to print is to create another port with the actual IP address like:
    192.168.1.123 using port 9101
which kind of defeats the purpose of the PrinterName.local naming convention.
This doesn't just happen on Airport Extreme attached printers. It also happens on any printer's host name that is qualified with a .local tag.
The weird thing is that I can ping the printer using the printer.local hostname.
    I'm stumped. Any clues?

I am also unable to access my printer through Bonjour after updating XP to Service Pack 3.

  • HELP! Network printing and installing HPIJS on iBook running 10.3.9

    Hi,
I have a home network built around Time Capsule. I have a secondary router which provides a wireless B/G network.
I have an old iBook running 10.3.9 which connects to the wireless B/G network.
I used to have an old HP PSC 750 connected via USB to the time capsule but it broke so I bought a new HP Photosmart C6380 which is connected via an ethernet cable to the time capsule.
I was able to use open printing drivers to allow the iBook to print to the old printer but I cannot get it to print to the new one.
Everything else on the network can print (including my iPhone).
I went back to open printing (http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs), downloaded what I had to and tried to install it. Everything installs ok on the iBook.
The trouble is I cannot follow the setup instructions - "Printer Setup Utility (Panther), hold down the Option key, and click the Add Printer button in the Print Center toolbar. Within the setup sheet, choose Advanced from the top popup menu; then in the "Device:" popup menu select your printer by name (it should be the last item in the menu list). Finally, select the correct PPD from the model browser and click Add."
The printer shows up when I select rendezvous in the add printer section, but it cannot find the drivers and will not let me select the drivers.
When I follow the above instructions, the printer is not listed.
I have tried using IP printing (no luck), bluetooth printing (nothing), in fact everything from the pull down list.
I am sure I am missing a step somewhere. Should I first install the printer connected directly to the iBook via USB?
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Anthony

    Hello Penny
The Leopard Installer DVD is Dual-Layered. For lack of any further information it's possible the original installed Optical Drive on your eMac can't read from Dual-Layered DVDs? Yours may be the Combo Drive instead? Although your model meets the minimum RAM requirements you would benefit greatly if you upgraded to at least 1GB - preferably more. Do you have another Mac or access to someone who has?
    HTH?

  • HP 7140 xi (All in one) network printer not installing properly?  Help?

I have the 7140 setup with a fixed ip address on the network. When I install the HP drivers the setup process hangs. Every time you restart the setup program runs again. Either abort the program or try to setup and watch it hang.
I had the same thing happen with my older G5 after a OS upgrade and had to do a driver reinstall. It would do exactly the same thing. The difference was the install software on the G5 was not the latest from HP's web rather the CD supplied with the printer. This time on the MacBook I am using the latest drivers from the web. Now on my MacBook how do I even get it to print when you cannot set it up? Could HP have an issue having two printers? I have the Laser 2300 dtn working fine also with a fixed ip address (different of course).
Anyone else having the same issues or has solved it yet?
MacBook Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2gig RAM and 120gig HDD

I found the following information on HP's web site.
    The address is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpm35033&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en& product=91463&rule=36617&lang=en
When I applied the instructions it deleted my HP2300dtn printing but fixed the HP 7140xi (All in one) and got it working great. I will now go back and get te 2300dtn working.
    Hope this helps others.

  • Lost Netgear network printer after installing 10.5

I installed 10.5.2 and now my HP laserjet 2200D will not print from the 10.5 computer. The Windows XP and iMac still print to the Netgear FWG114P USB printer just fine. I've tried everything and I'm now stumped. Anybody have a suggestion to try. Thanks.
    Dalej.

Hi. I know this sounds silly, but it happened to me until I figured it out. Please remember to turn on your printer before you attempt to select it under system preferences. You may also have to download an updated driver from your printer's website. Even then, you may find, as I did, that not all of your installed software will work with your printer under Leopard. The only solution to that which I have found is to install Tiger on a separate external HD and select that as your startup disk when you need to use that particular software.

  • I am not able to select a new network printer just installed at work to print to from Firefox. I have tried to reset the printer settings, but this did not work. Do I need to map Firefox to this new printer?

We recently had a new printer installed at work that has been set as the Default printer on my computer. When I go to print something from Firefox, I am not able to select the new printer from the printer window in the print box. The new printer does not show up

From another computer, go to http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/, click "Free download" button, click "Save File" button, select your flash drive in "Save as" window. "Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe" file will be saved in your flash drive.
You just need to insert it in your new computer and double-click on "Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe" from Windows Explorer and follow instructions.

  • Find network printer configuration remotely

    Hi,
Is there a way to know all my network printers specific configuration,
(we have many print servers,  and many network printers configured with different configurations,  one such is "keep printed documents")
I would to know in my network how many print queues are enabled this configuration option,  if this is possible via script or GUI console.
