T61 & Micro Dock USB port issues

I'm a remote worker and have a T61 and Micro Dock that had vista on it originally.  Our company was sold and our IT group only supports XP and Dell units.  They rolled me back to XP, but since then I have been having intermittent trouble with my dock since.
I have an external monitor, boot with the lid closed and wireless keyboard/mouse and speakers.  When in the dock, the USB ports acitvate then turn off, so by the time I get my log in, startup screen, the USB ports are not working and I have to open the lid to activate my login.  If I shut down, then undock, start, and shutdown and re-dock, it works.
Very confusing.  I have updated the BIOS and updated the Lenovo System Update.  It all worked ok under vista, but seems odd since rolled back.  Have checked my power settings too.  Seems like I'm missing something?
Would appreciate any ideas.

Maybe it isn't compatible w/Windows 7
It is.  Do you have the latest version of iTunes installed on this PC?  Is your PC a laptop or desktop?
Does the device appear to charge on your PC?  Did it ever work previously on this PC?

  • MSI Gaming 5 USB ports issue

    Hello everyone,
I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section, so as the title says it, sorta of a huge USB ports issue just happened after installing the motherboard / windows / all drivers, even restarted a few times
then tested the processor and video card.
Everything ok to that point, I left the pc opened for 3 hours, shut it down, the next day..I couldn't type the windows password.
Alright restart, that maybe one of those kinks that goes away on it's own I guess..Switched each device in different ports..nothing, tried only one device..still nothing.
Tried only usb2.0 ports then 3.0 port > a a little panic kicked in :D
So, in my bios I was seeing 2 keyboards 2 mice..ok...got a bios update from msi site..latest one..flash ..reboot..still nothing.
Strange part was..they were working just fine in bios and everything prior to windows loading, even after that mouse was showing power ( led was ok )but no functionality.
Safe mode didn't help..the miracle of last known good config saved the day.
BUT after choosing the option..ok it started working....randomly..I was typing the windows pass...and right in the middle ...it stopped again..mouse was working...tried again..stopped at 75% of the password.
Tried again...it worked > Reinstalled every driver.. seems stable for now, though being day 2 of this whole deal.
So if anyone honors me with enough time to read the story and maybe relate I would glady appreciate it.
Guys if anyone had any usb related incidents with any of the Z97Gaming boards please share
If I missed anything, please ask.
    Thank you

    Hello everyone,
Sorry for the delay in all of this and thank you for the input.
Specs are below, and this is something currently in the process of being upgraded.
    I7 4790k / MSI Gaming 5 / Sirtec 500W / 8 gb ram  Corsair Vengeance / AMD sapphire 7970 GHZ / one single HDD 1 GB
The Windows installation went fine on 2 other colleagues from work.
For the moment stable, I removed and reinstalled all USB related drivers.
It was a weird one though..

  • ATTN: All Users w/ USB Port Issues

    Hello,
    I have an A135-2386, BIOS v1.6, 2GB RAM
After reading some of the messages in this forum (and on the web) I'm convinced that the USB issue is directly related to BIOS upgrades.
I had the BIOS password issue happen to me last week and I fixed the issue myself by jumping the pin jopen1 (short with paper clip). Anyway, I updated the BIOS to v1.4 (to prevent the password issue from recurring) and the USB issues started surfacing.
At first I could toggle the legacy usb option in BIOS and the ports would start functioning.  But after the pc went to sleep or was restarted the problem came back. Now the toggle workaround no longer helps.
Even though my warranty has expired I did get sympathetic help from Toshiba.
After contacting Toshiba support they suggested I update the BIOS to v1.6 (the latest).
The latest BIOS v1.6 does not solve the USB issue.
Please call Toshiba Support 1-800-457-7777 (24/7) and log this issue.
Refer to my call number; 1-1147317549
If we can get demonstrate that this is a BIOS issue then hopefully we can get a resolution at no cost.
I see someone got a new motherboard in another thread, I'm curious as to what BIOS it has.
    Regards,
    Kenneth Barrentine

"BIOS upgrades, as identified by Toshiba and other manuf's, is at owner risk."
I've never heard that one before.  It's been my experience that most manufacturers want you to stay current.
In case I omitted some details here are the reasons again.
The first BIOS upgrade, v1.1 to v1.4, was so that I would not ever have to deal with resetting a BIOS admin password.
The second BIOS upgrade, v1.4 to v1.6, was recommended by Toshiba Technical Support in an effort to correct the malfunctioning USB ports.  Since there was no documentation addressing this issue in v1.6 it did seem pointless to upgrade to this version.  I just followed the Toshiba Technical Support recommendation in an effort to correct the USB issue.
    I'm leaning toward a PCMCIA<>USB card.
There is a bulletin from Toshiba recommending the BIOS upgrade.  There is no mention of risk.

  • USB port issue on Satellite Pro A300-13Y

I have a Satellite Pro A300-13Y with 4 USB ports. The two right side USB ports dont work. I have bought this laptop recently (2-3 weeks ago). It has a Windows Vista Business SP1 on it. I have Chip set utility installed on it, I have checked the device manager and I have tried to find driver for this but I couldnt solve this.
Then I called Toshiba service dek, they say I have to install again to factory standard install to see if it might be solved. But I dont find it the best way and I have some applications installed on it and have some info on my laptop so, I would like to find another way to solve this problem.
Also I think it could be a hardware issue. Can somebody show the way how can I find or solve this problem? I can also send it to guaranty, but if I made a mistake and if there is not a hardware issue I have to pay for this.

Thanks for your post. I will try it next week because I have much value of data on it and they have to be transfred to an extern harddisk that I'll buy this or next week.
Only something to know, I see in device manager a lot of usb controllers liste (4 usb controller and 4 usb root hub) in the Universal Serial Bus controller, where two of them are usb2 enhanced host controller and the rest are usb universal host controller.
Does it mean that Vista has detected only two USB2 controlleres?

  • USB Port Issues

I have a HP HDX16t model-X16T1200. I just recently upgraded from vista to windows 7. I updated all the drivers but i keep getting "this device can perform faster" prompt. I think this problem also has given me trouble with the webcam. The webcam doesn't work and also gives me errors.

    Greetings Liebetrau88,
Try creating a new user account in windows.
This will create an environment thats almost like restoring to factory settings.
It could help solve the issue or help isoloate the issue more.
If you have tried updating the drivers for the usb ports, flash drive, and in BIOS then that flash drive might not be compatible/supported by your system.
Otherwise, the last option would be to back up your system and restore to default.
Try those options out and let us know how they work.

  • USB port issues (hub, EyeTV Hybrid, speakers)

Balky USB ports continue to be a problem with me. Not to get off subject, but I had a horrible time with my old iBook that one day decided it didn't like to recognize my iPod Shuffle.
Now I've got a new MBP that doesn't seem to want to play nice with my Kensington USB pocket hub, Altec Lansing XT1 speakers and, particularly, an EyeTV Hybrid that worked great at install and ever since has shown as No Device Found.
I've tried restarting, plugging in devices in various sequences, resetting PRAM and performing an exorcism. I can get the speakers to work, and the hub with some effort. But I can't get the EyeTV Hybrid to make an encore appearance to save my life.
    Thoughts?

My USB hub does have external power, but the issue with the EyeTV Hybrid continues regardless of whether it is connected to the hub or directly to either of the computer's two USB ports.
I'm tempted to think I just need to replace the EyeTV unit, but I have had so many problems with Apple USB ports, I thought somebody out there might have found some solutions. They have been extraordinarily finicky about what they play nice with, it seems to me.

  • USB port issues when using iphone5

I have recently upgraded to an iphone 5 but whn I connect to my imac (intel/2009) I get error message up saying the usb port is being disabled as the device is drawing too much power. This means i cannot charge the phone from the imac nor connect to itunes. Has oneone else had this issue? can anyone suggest how I can resolve it.
    cheers

I'm not sure how the issue can be resolved but I'm having the exact same problem when I try and charge my iPhone5 on both my macbook pro at home and at work. I have no other usb devices in use when this happens and I cannot find a way to rectify it so you're definitely not alone.

  • C655d-s5130 usb port issues.

OK this just happened suddenly I have a duel boot PC win7 ultimate and Ubuntu 11.10.
the USB ports work fine until I plug my phone into it via USB cable. as soon as I plug my phone in it will completely disable both USB ports. this happens in both windows and Linux.
I have excluded my phone or the USB cord as being the problem as the phone is recognised and works on our other Toshiba laptop and our Compaq desktop. I get no USB problems on those machines.
and just to clarify, both of the USB ports work perfectly with all devices I have tried with the exception of and up until I plug my phone into the computer. any help would be great. thanx!

ummm what exactly are you suggesting by "daisy chain"???
I have to question if that would be the issue as this is a sudden occurrence, I never had any problems before except.... wait... right before it started powering down the USB ports when I plug the phone in it started saying that my USB device had malfunctioned. I don't believe it actually had malfunctioned though. but I'm not a genius haha. hope that helps.
I hate to think that I can't use laptop for my phone as I'm kinda flash happy and I'd like to be able to reflash back to stock when necessary from my laptop rather than the desktop

  • USB port issues and unable to reset

I'd personally see a doctor about this... wait, what?    God damn it!

Have just in the last few days noticed an issue where singstar was not recognising my USB microphones and noted also that controllers were not being charged from the dual USB ports on my PS3 SuperSlim. Otherwise the system was operating fine until I tried to reset to defaults that is. Sadly now following taking these steps I can't progress beyond the select the PS button on your wired controller which of course doesnt work because the USB ports have failed.  Seems a bit odd that the system is now bricked with only a fairly innocuous fault. Any suggestions to get me operating again with or without operating USB ports will be gratefully received.

  • 2010 i5 17" MacBook Pro USB Port issue locks up iTunes when attaching iPhon

Two things - 3 USB ports, but only the center one charges my iPhone. Is this a feature or a defect? Also itunes locks up when the iPhone is connected in the only port that charges.

I had the exact same problem as Aaron Scott. I have a Core i5 15" MBP, and the 1st USB port wouldn't charge my phone, but the 2nd one did. Weird thing is my flash drive worked in the 1st one, but it was really slow compared to the 2nd one. I took my laptop to the apple store today, and one of the guys at the genius bar reset the PRAM and then the SMC (System Management Controller). Doing that fixed both my slow boot issue and fixed my USB port. You can try doing that. He did mention to try resetting the PRAM first, then resetting the SMC after that though. Here's the documentation on how to do it:

  • MSI Z77 MPOWER USB ports issue

    Hi Y'all,
I have a problem with the USB ports on my mobo (or so I think) and I hope you guys can help. Hope this is not a double topic/thread either.
A few weeks back, I slightly took apart my system to swap out the PSU, install more fans into the case for some push-pull configs and more air cooling as I intended to OC my graphics card (I also reapplied the thermal paste on the chip) . After I put everything back together and rebooted, some USB devices (webcam, Corsair keyboard, mouse etc.) needed to be switched around to different ports to be able to work. After that everything seemed to work fine again. However, last week, when I tried to connect a Satawire cable to the front I/O panel USB port, the system takes a while to recognize the device. One recognized and trying to install drivers for the Satawire cable, the system failed to find drivers. Samething happened when I tried to plug in my HTC phone or PS3 controller (failed to install drivers). I have a couple of ports on the back (mobo I/O) vacant, tried plugging these things in, same result. Weird thing is my flash drive worked fine when I plugged it in (I haven't dared tried to unplug my webcam, or keyboard, or mouse yet).
I tried plugging the Satawire cable to my laptop, my laptop recognized and installed driver automatically. I have tried Clearing CMOS, reinstalling Intel Management Engine Driver and Intel Chipset Driver for the mobo (as some people suggested I try) but to no avail. I have also tried switching the USB cables (leading to the front IO panel of the case) to different ports (3 in total) on my Mpower mobo but to no avail as well. I really don't know if this is a Mobo/BIOS issue or an OS issue. I want reinstalling Windows as my last resort.
Please help if you can. If you need more information please let me know.
    Thanks all.

just disable the USB 3.0 function and make them become USB 2.0...I'm not sure if there might be any changes on power supply. Maybe you could try.
I'm confused. I doubt disabling USB 3.0 Controller would help. The front IO panel has 5 USB ports (four 2.0 and one 3.0). I have my flash drive in the 3.0 port almost 24/7. I even tried sticking the flash drive into the 2.0 ports, my system still recognizes it as storage (albeit giving me a message that I would get much faster speed from the USB 3.0 port). I have most of my current devices connected to USB 3.0 ports in the back IO panel and everything is still working.
I have tried resetting Generic USB Hub as some people suggested online, but to no avail.
FYI, I tried booting my computer into safe mode to see if the problem persists and it does. But I notice in safe mode, my computer recognizes the SATAwire cable or the PS3 controller (via USB) almost instantly and failling to install drivers (after searching preconfigured driver folders) almost instantly as well, not like in regular mode, where it could easily take 10-15 seconds up to 30 seconds for the whole process. So is it safe to conclude that it's not an OS issue, meaning if I re-install Windows and start with a fresh driver folder, these issues would still happen?

  • N900 USB Port issues, are they resolved yet?

Reading various forums regarding this device prior to purchase and I am seeing a lot of complaints about the USB port not being very well designed. IT would seem that these ports fail within a few months and it may take 4+ weeks to get a repaired phone back
I am so close to purchase but things like this are causing me to rethink my position....

an amend to the previous, it does seem to occur if I leave it purely idle for long periods of time with no powermanagement on, it just doesn't fail if I'm actually using it.
