T61 Wireless Switch Annoyance

When I change the position of the wireless power switch on the front of my T61, I get a pop-up that basically says, "You turned the radio on." or "You turned the radio off."  Of course I know that... I just toggled the switch.  It would not be so bad if that pop-up just went away after a bit but instead it requires me to click on a OK box.
There's got to be a way to turn off such annoyances.  Please, pray tell, illuminate me on fixing this horrible UI bug.

  • BIOS version 2.25 Wireless Switch config option not appearing

    Hellom
    just updated to the 2.25 version of the BIOS software and one of the options mentioned in the readme (ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7luj24us.txt) is "(New) Added the option to disabling wireless switch in the BIOS setup." however I do not see this option in the new BIOS.  Can someone point me in the right direction on how to find it?

    Perhaps, you should try to reset your preference file to see if it corrects itself.  I have posted the instructions at this link:

    My pavilion dv2418nr wireless switch light stays orange, will not go to blue, will not recognize any surrounding neighborhood connections.  ISP says the router is fine, that it is the laptop switch not allowing the wireless card to read any connections. HP tech had me connect the Ethernet cord from the router to the laptop....I got on internet fine...however, that's a hard connect.  Has anyone had this problem with their switch?  i think until that little light turns blue I'm out of luck.  Thanks for you help

    Regarding the Touchpad, download the latest Synaptics Driver Installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37001-37500/sp37065.exe
    Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the notebook.
    When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and see if this has helped.

  • X60 Micro Wireless Switch

    I have an X60 (1706) that is pretty darn old and has worked great for years. I believe the micro wireless switch has failed on it. Mechanically, it works but I assume it has failed electronically. I have been having issues on and off (no pun intended) with it for a couple of months. I took the laptop apart and it appears that the switch needs replacing. In Linux live CD boot, it says the wireless switch is off.
    I assume the part is not an FRU. Is that correct?
    A replacement motherboard is the only thing?

    OK, but you could still solder a shunt (or even just wrap a few strands of fine wire) across the switch. I can't recall the last time I actually had the need to turn the WiFi/BT radios off using the mechanical switch. Besides there's always Fn-F5.
    It's also possible that the reason why the switch works intermittently is because the plastic button is broken. If that's the case then the eBay solution would address that.

  • Dhcpcd consumes a lot of CPU when wireless switch is off

    If I turn my hardware wireless switch off, dhcpcd goes crazy and uses a CPU core completely. Checking with htop, the command being run is:
    dhcpcd -4qL -t 30 wlp13s0
    where wlp13s0 is my wireless interface. I'm using netctl-auto to connect to the network.
    It goes back to normal as soon as I turn the switch back on.
    The network configuration under /etc/netctl to which it was connected before I turned the switch off is
    Description='Automatically generated profile by wifi-menu'
    Interface=wlp13s0
    Connection=wireless
    Security=wpa
    ESSID="network"
    IP=dhcp
    Key="password"
    Is there anything I can do so that dhcpcd won't try to use all my CPU in such cases?
    EDIT (2014.05.28):
    I looked in the following wiki pages, but couldn't find anything about this issue:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Br … leshooting
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dhcpcd
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … figuration
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Netctl
    I couldn't find anything about dhcpcd and cpu usage in the forums, and searching the web didn't provide any relevant results. Which is bad, since anatolik found this:
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/39512
    which I didn't.

    ondoho wrote:Have you tried connecting to the network manually, then pressing the switch?
    If I turn the switch on after turning it off, I must connect manually using netctl (that is, netctl-auto doesn't connect automatically in this case). After doing that, turning the switch back off does not cause the problem. Which is weird, since the process is still there, like before
    I also noticed that it is no longer possible to use netctl-auto after turning the switch off, as it no longer see any configuration (running `netctl-auto list` as root returns nothing, while before it returned 2 items).
    ondoho wrote:how did you install and activate wireless
    I basically followed this wiki page:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … f_profiles
    I first generated the profiles with wifi-menu and by copying /etc/netctl/examples/ethernet-dhcp, and then activated netctl-auto using
    # systemctl enable [email protected]
    # systemctl enable [email protected]

    Yes, it looks very similar.  It is said there that the problem should be fixed since 2014-04-01 11:48:57, but I just checked for updates with pacman and I already have the most recent version (6.3.2).  I will see if I can add any relevant information to that page.
    I did notice that my wireless interface disappears when I turn the switch off (ifconfig doesn't show it anymore), and it only reappears when I reconnect manually. I'm not sure if that is expected, since the commit that should have solved the problem says:
    On a read error, remove the FD from eloop. This shouldn't happen really

  • Wireless switch daq

    I am interested in using a wireless switch to indicate whether a device is holstered/unholstered. I found the following switch which I think would meet my needs. http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?id=prod3447901&CATID=304722&skuid=sku3446744&V=G&ec=frgl_559044&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=sku3446744
    How do I tap into the on/off state of the light receiver and input that data into labview? Obviously when the switch is on, the receiver circuit outputs a voltage. How can I measure this voltage & input it into labview? What data acquisition card do I need and is there anything else I need to convert this voltage/lack of voltage into something the daq can read & understand?
    Thank you.
    -Adam

    Hi Adam,
          I like the way you think!  I once modified a cheap programmable appliance timer to switch AC based on a parallel-port output pin (using LabVIEW, of course.)
    I expect if you crack-open and probe-around in the "light receiver" you'll find some TTL level signal that indicates whether the light is on or not.  BE CAREFUL to identify and stay-away-from the AC side of things!!!  Also, while probing, be very very careful not to accidentally short-together any signals - especially neighboring pins on ICs.
    If you're lucky, you'll be able to (find and) wire such signal to a PC parallel-port input without affecting the operation of the light.
    I think appropriate voltages for the parallel port are 0-5V DC.  If you find a signal in the -12 to +12V range, consider using a COM port instead.
    You can find examples on this forum to use VISA to read parallel port signals  or COM port signals.
    Luck/Cheers!

  • X201 Wireless switch Hardware problem - PLEASE HELP

    Hello everyone,
    I have been a regular reader of this wonderful forum and have also participated on a few questions. I have an x201 which I bought from UK 6months back.
    After a smooth sail for many months and just when I thought life was going good, I have a wireless switch problem that pops up out of nowhere. I never use hardware switch and had to do it only last week because of checking for my internet connection problems.
    Only once in my entire experience with this laptop that I put it off, now it has become so sensitive that even shaking the laptop while typing turns off the laptop.  On reading about this problem I found out that it is quite a common problem with x-series and has many users affected from it. After confidently calling the customer support they ask me to pay 200euros just to "TAKE A LOOK AT THE PROBLEM"????. Apart from at least acknowledging the persistent problem across all the models they end up asking me to pay for everything and cannot tell me how much it will cost me or even tell me how long it will take to replace this.
    Is there any other way to do this? The support told me that the only other way to repair this will be to buy the Base switch myself and then replace it. I am a biologist doing my PhD and have no knowledge of all these. Apart from all the appluad this laptop got from my colleagues, now they all think this is a joke by Lenovo to be charging for something that is entirely their mistake.
    Can anyone point to a solution please and help me. I was really looking to buying an ultrabook next year but looks like replacing a switch is going to cost me 1/4th of what one would be for an entire laptop.
    PLEASE HELP

    Hi chaihg,
    I understand that the issue has not been resolved.
    I would like to see if I can help and I've PMed you for some details. Do let me know.

  • Do Mac Laptops Have Wireless Switches?

    Hi All,

    Thanks in advance:-)

    Jay is correct, but seems blissfully unaware of what the average PC user has to go through.
    I know the switch you are talking about and it doesn't exist on any Mac and probably never will. If you need to turn Airport or Bluetooth off, use the icons in the menu bar or go to System Preferences.

  • Wireless switch problem.

    I have a Lenovo S10-3, and when ever I try to access the internet wirelessly It tells me that the wireless switch is turned off, And I have turned both the switch on the side on, and the switch (Fn+F5) on the keyboard on as well. Still I get the same message telling me that the wireless switch is turned off... Any suggestions? Any possibility that this isn't a hardware problem?

    Hallo,
    I'm currently having the same issue.
    My hardware switch is set on but both in "Access Connecction" and "Fn+F5" it tells me that the switch is turned off.
    I tried to updat the BIOS and the power management software but it didn't help.
    Any other idea?
    In "Access Connection" it tells me that to make sure that the switch is on and the bios setup is set to radio on.
    How do i set the radio on in the BIOS?
    Thank you,

  • Compatible Wireless Switch

    I have an ethernet router connected to Zen Boradband.
    A long ethernet cable runs across the attic from the modem/router and into my room, where it plugs into my airport express.
    my mac mini then wirelessly connects to the airport express.
    (The router has no wirsless)
    I want a Wireless switch, so that i can plug it into my current modem/router and get wireless as well as the existin wired.
    can someone tell me which switches will airport express connect to....
    I am specifically looking at :
    D-Link
    Linksys
    I thought about connecting the mac to the wireless switch, but then i would lose the airtunes and printer....unless i could connect to both.
    by the way, how do i check the speed of which my mac and airport expres are running (out of 54mbps)

    If you really already have an ethernet router, then you can buy any basic ethernet switch (should cost around $30 at your local computer store). What is the make/model of this "ethernet router"?
    At home:
    - connect the cable from your "ethernet router" to one of the ethernet switch ports
    - connect the Airport Express to one of the other ethernet switch ports
    - disable the router built into the Airport Express: run the Airport Admin Utility, select your Express, click Configure, click the Network tab, uncheck the box to "Distribute IP addresses", update settings to the Base Station. Restart all wireless computers.
