T61 Wireless

Hi...
My T61 has the wireless adapter  Wifi Link 4965AGN.
If WLAN broacast the SSID I can connect without any problems.
If WLAN DO NOT broadcast the SSID (hidden SSID) I cannot cannot to anyone.
Is there a solution for this problem ?
Thanks.
PX

Hello.
It seems the problem is caused by the old (v11.5.0.36 dated 27 November 2007) Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG driver still being shipped by Lenovo via T61 support driver matrix ou via System Update.
I just get an updated version (v11.5.1.15 dated 13 March 2008) of the Intel software driver for this wireless chipset.
I've set up my wireless access point to DO NOT broadcast the ESSID and now i can finally connect without any problems.
Just use the following link and select the apropriate device driver for your operating system:

  • T61 - wireless weak/limited connectivity - ruled out all else

Argh, T61 working fine with various wireless connections until about 2 months ago - no change in settings that I can pinpoint. I have checked Linksys router and cable company. Colleague runs her computer fine 3 feet from me(Dell). I tried the repair option but no go. So I have done all standard ipconfig/[..] stuff. I have downloaded updates. I have chanted(ok just kidding). Today I did a Network diagnostic scan and the DNSServer search order failed on a ping thing. Interesting because it said it was not getting the received packets. When I look at my connection I see there is activity being sent but very little coming back. Outlook, etc are all painfully slow, and then they give up the ghost.

go into your control panel, system, hardware property, right click on your wireless card. Make sure the power output is maximum, roaming aggressiveness low, and windows power saving feature is off.

  • T61 Wireless again...

I know there are a bunch of folks who have issues with the range of the built-in wireless adapter on the T61. I've looked a bit and seen some posts that advise changing the wireless card. Given the complexity of this, I'm not sure this is a project I want to tackle.
At home and at work, I use the built-in and it seems to work fine but when I travel, I often cannot connect where my iPhone can.
Last week I was in a Seattle hotel and I tried a USB adapter, a NetGear WNDA 3100 and it seemed to help. I also have a D-Link WUA 1340 but it seemed to have some configuration issues.
Am I on the right track, will this NetGear adapter solve my problem and improve my wireless range?

Honestly, nothing that I could think of. Just call it in for another repair...
    Good luck.

  • T61 - Wireless non-connectivity following Wireless Lan update

T61 Type 7658 Lenovo installed 11a/b/g/n Mini-PCI Express adapter wireless modem has virtually ceased working since the latest update around January 2. Even with the system sitting six inches from the router no connection is possible.
Any suggestions or ideas as nothing else has changed in the way or program updates or additions.

  • T61 Wireless Repeatedly Turns Off Windows Control

Upgraded firmware in my wireless router, and now my T61 can't connect wirelessly.
Wireless Network Connection is properly identified, Signal Strength is Excellent, speed is 54 Mbps. Status is Limited or no connectivity.
Something keeps turning off my Wireless Zero Configuration Service. EIf I start it manually, and check off "Use Windoes to configure my wireless network setting,", I get wireless access back. But those actions get reversed when I reboot the computer.
    What can be causing this?
In case it's relevant, the Lenovo PC Doctor 5 wireless troubleshooting test fails on the TCP/IP Network Connection Test, saying "Cannot Run". That happens even if I've gotten my wireless connection working.

    Hello,
Have you tried upgrading the ThinkPad T61's wireless drivers as well?  If so, did that make any difference?

  • T61 Wireless Switch Annoyance

When I change the position of the wireless power switch on the front of my T61, I get a pop-up that basically says, "You turned the radio on." or "You turned the radio off."  Of course I know that... I just toggled the switch.  It would not be so bad if that pop-up just went away after a bit but instead it requires me to click on a OK box.
There's got to be a way to turn off such annoyances.  Please, pray tell, illuminate me on fixing this horrible UI bug.

  • T61 Wireless Problem

    Hi:
I recently purchased a Linksys E3000 wireless router.  I am not able to connect to the internet wirelessly with my T61 laptop.  I called Linksys but they were not helpful.
I did download the Driver from the Lenovo website and that worked for a week or so but the problem has returned.  I tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver but without success.
Does anyone have any additional suggestions?  I would appreciate any guidance.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
I am not familiar with the Linksys E3000 series of routers, nor did I see mention of the seven-character model for the T61 notebook, so this is more of a general troubleshooting scenario than a specific set of recommendations, but here's what I would suggest trying:
Update the firmware on the Linksys E3000 router to the latest version.
Update the drivers on the ThinkPad T61 notebook to the latest version.  This can be done automatically by running the ThinkVantage System Update program.
Check to see if wireless networking works at this point.  If so, you are done troubleshooting the issue.  If not, reset the Linksys E3000 router to its default settings and configure the Internet connection so it works with your broadband provider's modem.
Verify that wired networking works by connecting the ThinkPad T61 to the Linksys E3000 router using an Ethernet cable.  If it does not, than the problem may be due to a conflict with security software or other software related issue.
Go into the web interface for the Linksys E3000 router and begin troubleshooting the wireless connection by setting up an unencrypted (i.e., a publicly accessible) wireless network.  Try connecting to the wireless network using the ThinkPad T61 (if possible, test with another wireless-capable device in order to verify the unencrypted wireless network is operational).  If everything works, we shall proceed to the next part of testing.  If the wireless connection does not work, than the problem may be due to a conflict with security software or other software related issue.
Go back into the web interface for the Linksys E3000 router's wireless configuration screen and change the encryption from none to WEP (wired equivalent privacy).  Try connecting to the WEP-encrypted wireless network using the ThinkPad T61 (if possible, test with another wireless-capable device in order to verify the wireless network is operational).  Despite the name, WEP is not secure and should not be used for wireless networks.
If the WEP encrypted wireless network worked okay, than it is time to go back into Linksys E3000's web interface one more time to visit the wireless configuration settings.  Now go ahead and change the encryptop type to WPA2, which uses a stronger form of encryption, and try connecting the ThinkPad T61 to the wireless LAN.  At this point, if the other wireless network encryption types worked okay, WPA2 should work as well, and the ThinkPad T61 should be up and running on the wireless network.
Please post back the results of your testing and let us know if this solves the problem or, failing that, where it stopped working so we can continue troubleshooting the issue.

    Aryeh Goretsky

  • T61 Wireless Drivers

i downgraded my T61 from Windows Vista to Windows xp SP2 using the recovery CD of the same system ,, now my Wireless is not working i tried to download the drivers from the Lenovo site but they are not working. The system is not showing any device driver error in Device manager. Can  you assist on how to make the wireless work in XP environment.

I had the same issue and ajkula66 pointed me to this file which worked.
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70504
After downloading, go into C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint and run the setup file from there.
I saw it said it supports a T61.. re-read and verify.
Hope it helps you like it did me

  • T61 Wireless Connectivity Issue - can not connect with secure wireless sites

I have a T61 using Windows XP. The internal wireless card was factory installed and has not been upgraded.
My home Internet is Comcast high-speed.
When I take my laptop to a coffee shop, business or other location with a secure wireless network that requires a password, I have not been able to log on. I can see the wireless networks available and can click on the appropriate one, but I never get a window/pop-up box/screen in order to allow me to enter the wifi network's user name and password.
Is this a firewall issue, wireless card issue...or?
I can access unsecured wireless networks where a password is not needed.

    Hi lisapapp!
One more thing to check: Is your Windows XP up to date? Older XP releases do not support the newer wireless encryption types which are now in common use (WPA, WPA2). Make sure you have SP3.

  • T61 Wireless Radio Problems

    Hi,
I recently attempted to install a new webcam on my Lenovo Thinkpad.  As soon as I plugged the cam into a usb port I got disconnected from the internet and upon trying to reconnect I received a message saying the wireless radio was not powered on even though it was.  I have tried turning it off and on again, running virus scans, registry scans, and PC doctor but nothing seems to fix the problem.  I'm not even entirely sure that this problem is related to the webcam at all.  Can anybody help me fix this issue?

I know the frustration:  check this thread........hope you find something that works.........

  • T61 Wireless Shuts Off

I bought it a year ago, and about a month ago the wireless radio shuts off, and will not turn back on, even when I use the switch, or go into the Netwwork Connections and tell it to enable the wireless radio. I have tried downloading new drivers, and updating the Access Connection center. Also have tried making the wireless the main choice with in the Access Connections, but it will not save the changes, and chooses the LAN line. I think the computer "stops" using the wireless, shuts it off, and then tries to use the LAN line, which is not connected.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks.

PROBLEM: My T61 is about 1.5yrs old and the wireless also started crashing about 1mo ago...when it does crash, right clicking the wireless icon (in system tray) and choosing the 'Diagnose and repair' function does not fix the problem...in fact, most times when the wireless crashes, the wireless icon is not selectable (and if i try to right click it, this causes the whole system to hang)..none of the other menu driven solutions fix the problem (if anything, it crashes the computer)...it also cannot be fixed by physically cycling the off/on switch for the wireless...a wireless crash can only be temporarily fixed by fully rebooting...however, sometimes after a reboot following a wireless crash, the whole system will crash, i.e., yesterday during reboot i got a BLACK screen of death (not the typical BlueSOD, instead the LCD lost power) and it hung for an eternity (i could here the drive and fan running) so i had to unplug the power cord and battery to reset things...none of this  crashing during reboot BS ever happened until yesterday after using ThinkVantage System Update.
SETUP: running Vista Business with SP1, 2gb ram, sometimes 4gb of ReadyBoost is used but not since having the wireless problem...no other problem with this T61 except USB 2.0 performance is pitiful (a well known Vista problem)...no virus or adware/spyware detected during recent scans.
UPGRADES:  Until yesterday, i avoided updating my T61 using ThinkVantage System Update because the updates seemed to be a waste of space and often degraded performance and/or caused real problems...and because the ThinkVantage suite, as a whole, seems to slow down Vista (it's so much slower than XP Pro), I had uninstalled or deactivated as much of the ThinkVantage suite as possible.
Therefore, as i hadn't installed any ThinkVantage updates in over a year, i can say with 99% confidence the wireless problem is due to a Vista or IE7 updates...the 1% unconfidence could point to a update/upgrade to Firefox 3.x which maybe took place around similar time the wireless started going bad (Anyone suspect problems with FF3.0 on T61???).
Due to the wireless card problem, i decided to install all available upgrades using the ThinkVantage System Update yesterday and it didn't fix anything...in fact, i'd say the wireless card now crashes more often (i've had to reboot 6-8 times since yesterday).
ALSO the PowerManager crashed on start up even though it's worked flawlessly for 1.5yrs...so i'd say PowerManager 2.37 should be avoided. Yes...i tried to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall PM 2.37 but it still crashes.
If it matters to any techies, during yesterday's upgrade, i included the most recent BIOS upgrade (i can't remember the version)...who knows what problems this is causing.
    Solutions?

  • Windows 2003 on T61 wireless adapter not showing

I have 7658( CTO) T61 with XP pro.... I downgraded windows 2003 enterprise edition SP2. i have few questions
    1. I changed the bios to compatibility mode ( I keep sata then win 2003 not booting, so changed to compatability  mode). Is it required that I keep compatability mode.?
     2. Wireless adapter is not working ( not showing at all). It is PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_1014&SUBSYS_058A1014&REV_01\4&29E2C51B&0&00E1
I downloaded and tried many drivers from lenovo website but is not working.
I have struggled for a week and searched many forums but nothing is helping me out. Please help me.

You will need the Windows 2003 compatible SATA drivers to stop using compatibility mode. I don't know if they exist... good luck there. Try Intel's web site since you probably have an Intel chipset.
As for the wireless adapter, again it may be a matter of Win2003 not recognizing the device. I would try and manually install several drivers and see which one may work. You may have to force-feed Win2003 since it doesn't recognize the hardware. Be sure you know the manufacturer of the wireless chip... Intel or Broadcom or Atheros? Look at the specs for your laptop.

  • T61 wireless can't connect with authentication key enabled

    Hello all,
I have a new Thinkpad T61 that will properly connect to my wireless network when the router is configured as unsecured but CANNOT connect when I set up a network key.  In my router config I have tried using both the WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK authentications.  I enter a 9 character network key made up of ordinary numbers that it accepted by the router, and save settings.  The other settings on the screen are:
WPA Group Rekey Interval = 0
    WPA Encryption = AES
    WEP Encryption = Disabled
In the Windows wireless interface I select the network, type in the key, and get to the “acquiring network address” stage but no further.  The connection window shows that packets are being sent and received.  As soon as I go back to my router config and set it as unsecured, the wireless connects no problem.  I have tested another laptop on the network with a passkey and it connected without any problems.
Occasionally when I am tinkering with the wireless settings (especially after clicking on the wireless tray icon) the system locks and I have to reboot.  Before the reboot I get a program “not responding” dialog box where it asks me to end explorer.exe and a program called CiceroUIWndFrame.exe
The system came pre-loaded with Linux but I’ve changed to XP Pro.  I have done all Windows updates, through SP3 and re-installed the driver for the network adapter 7kwc50ww.exe (I hope correctly??).  I am using Windows to configure wireless, but thinkvantage ver. 4.52 is also running.  I tried disabling Windows networking and configuring through thinkvantage, but this fails also.
I have called tech support on my DSL company but they are out of ideas and think it is my router but I am doubtful because it was working fine before I got the new machine, and it worked on the other laptop.  I think something must have gone wrong in the XP install.
    Any ideas??
    Cheers,
    Will

A quick and dirty test would be to completely uninstall Access Connections and try using just the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration. In my personal opinion, unless you are using multiple wireless configs at multiple locations the ThinkVantage software is overkill. Also, if you search the board, you will find multiple instances of SP3 wrecking wireless. Let us know if this helps.
