  • Cannot upgrade the firmware.

I am using a BEFW11S4 router Version 4. When I checked the site and after a full day of messing around I found that the problem I was having was covered in the latest update. I downloaded the bin file and tried the upgrade process from the router management. It failed. leaving the router still working but still with my original problem. Went to user groups and read what i could find. I turned off virus program, firewall and connected directly to internet to download bin file. (did this 4 times) tried again. failed. still did not upgrade the firmware and read more and downloaded the utility It could not access the router - Login failed. tried to login to router and logged in fine. spent another 4 hours trying to find any other suggestions either on the linksys site and in the forums and could not find anything. Keep in mind I have been using cisco products for about 20 years now and I am fully qualified Network technician. Please don't annoy me with any more simplistic suggestions I need a workable solution since I have about two or three hundred of these types of units out there. My interim solution was to go to staples and pick up a $49 Belkin router that works just fine. The solution suggested by the linksys person on the phone was to pay $29 to maybe resolve the issue. can anyone see the economics in that?
P.S. went to the lela download link in the message at the top of this forum. It says to download lela click here. Did so and got a really nice demo. there was no download. so if anyone knows where to download that it might be worth a try.

Try upgrading the firmware of router ... reset it & reconfigure it ... if it works ... that will be fine if not ... then possibly the router is gone bad ...

  • Need Help!!! Cannot upgrade EFI firmware 1.5.1

My Boot ROM Version is: MBP31.0070.B02
I followed every step and up to click the shut down button and i clicked it then received a message:
    "An unexpected error occurred (28 : 3).
Your firmware can not be updated."
Any ideas how to fix it? Thanks.
PS. I cannot run bootcamp, neither. It said i have to update my boot rom version, can anybody help me at this problem, also? I tried all the EFI firmware update from 1.2 to 1.4 and it said my MBP dont need this update.

Yes, it does indeed appear that it is GUID. Curiouser and curiouser.
OK, so let's check over things again.
THe drive you are booted from when trying to install the Firmware is the internal drive on the MBP.
It is using the GUID partition scheme.
What else can it be here?
    1) Your internal drive has a single partition, formatted as HFS extended( journaled) on it at the present time?
    2) You don't have any other devices (external FW or USB drives, external keyboards etc) attached at the time when you attempt the update (the power adaptor is the only that that should be attached to your MBP when you do a Firmware update)?
    3) You are using the correct updater (http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacBookPro_EFI_Firmware_Update_1_51) . (It may be worth downloading a fresh copy just in case).
    Cheers

  • Cannot upgrade Thunderbolt firmware on mid-2011 iMac

Hi - I'm having problems updating the Thunderbolt firmware on my mid-2011 iMac (21.5").
Can anyone point me to the proper location for this firmware download? I've found several on the site, but none seem to work for me, due to a variety of OS incompatibilities.
For the curious, here's what my system says:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name: iMac
      Model Identifier: iMac12,1
      Processor Name: Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz
      Number of Processors: 1
      Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
      L3 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 12 GB
      Boot ROM Version: IM121.0047.B1F
      SMC Version (system): 1.71f22
    Thunderbolt Bus:
      Vendor Name: Apple Inc.
      Device Name: iMac
      UID: 0x0001000A15928E80
      Route String: 0
      Firmware Version: d.16 (Eng 1)
      Domain UUID: 78CF7309-6B81-CC54-A320-6D5B13722358
      Port:
      Status: No device connected
      Link Status: 0x7
      Speed: Up to 10 Gb/s x2
      Receptacle: 1
      Port Micro Firmware Version: 1.2.1
And here are the error messages from a variety of firmware update locations:
    Thunderbolt Firmware Update v1.2
First error: The package was signed with a certificate that has expired (c'mon Apple!)... Do you want to continue with the installation anyway? (yes!)
Second error: Alert: This software is not supported on your system. (any reason why? OS, old other firmware, what?)
I've tried the tricks of PRAM and SMC resets, moved the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist to the desktop and rebooted, etc., etc., but nothing seems to work.
The issue driving this exploration is that the Thunderbolt port appears to be dead - won't support Target Desktop Mode or the Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet adapter.
Thanks in advance for any help!

From that very page, it appears that this model does support Target Display Mode - please see the bold text below.
    Am I reading it incorrectly?
Thanks for your help here - it's good to have more than 1 set of eyes looking at this!
    - Jeff

  • Cannot upgrade firmware to WRT54G v5

My Linksys WRT54G router has been dropping out lately and I've been recommended to update its firmware as it is very out-of-date. Well, everytime I try to upgrade the firmware to it, I get an error message that says "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." I'm trying to upgrade the firmware through the router's site 192.168.1.1 under the adminstration tab. What else can I do to upgrade the firmware as that option is not working?

Before updating the firmware of your router, you will need to download the updated firmware file from homesupport.cisco.com. Firmware files are in .bin format.
    • To prevent upgrade failures make sure that your computer is connected to the router using an Ethernet cable for stable connectivity. Upgrading the firmware wirelessly may cause permanent damage to the router since wireless connection may be unstable during the process.
    • Use a different Internet browser if Internet Explorer doesn’t work or use a different computer to perform the upgrade.
    • To prevent failure disable firewall to ensure that the upgrade will not be disrupted.
    • Make sure that you downloaded the correct firmware and version for your device to prevent technical problems that may damage the router.
Here is the link for upgrading the router's firmware http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=4030&userrole=Linksy...

  • WISM1 cannot upgrade firmware

    Hello,
I'm having an issue upgrading a Cisco WISM (just a WISM1), we had one of these line cards fail and we got a replacement.  The replacement comes with 2 firmware releases, one of which is the minimum required for compatibility with VSS on a 6500 (which we have.)
Here's the information for the 6506:
Cisco IOS Software, s2t54 Software (s2t54-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 15.1(1)SY, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2) <<< supports the WISM
The boot images the WLC came with are:
    Primary Boot Image............................... Code 3.2.78.0
Backup Boot Image................................ Code 3.2.171.6 (active) <<< VSS compatibility on a 6500 series switch
(3.2.171.6 is the release which first supports VSS.  As you can see i've made this backup image active.)
I have been attempting to upgrade the firmware image, i've used several tftp servers (on different boxen, all with the host firewall disabled) - Pumpkin 2.7.3, the latest TFTPD32/64 and the latest (10.something, > 32 MB file support was introduced in an earlier release) Solarwinds TFTP server.  Neither of these work, it stops at 32 MB (with the possible exception of Pumpkin there is no question the latter support > 32 MB, I use these products all the time to upload larger IOS images and what-not.)
We're trying to get to 6.0.196.0, after failing I tried 4.2.176.0 as an intermediate upgrade instead but received the same error (below.)
    Here's the debug log:

Here are the settings i'm using (note that it's all at the TFTP root, the path is blank but it does grab the file ... using "./" as the path makes no difference.):
    Mode............................................. TFTP
    Data Type........................................ Code
    TFTP Server IP................................... <omitted>

TFTP Max Retries................................. 254 (not default, set for troubleshooting)
    TFTP Path........................................

Again, it appears that the tftp server does not support files > 32 MB (the docs i've read say that this error message is supposed to indicate exactly that), but it 100% *does* support larger files.  What could be causing the transfer to time out?  Is there some limitation on the controller which prevents large files being delivered via TFTP (and if so, is there a way around that?)  Also, there seems to be no other alternative other than TFTP (at least with the release i'm currently stuck at) ... or is there?
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • Cannot upgrade Firmware on Zen Mi

Just bought a Zen Micro yesterday, it came with the .0.03 firmware.
Wanted to upgrade to version 2 firmware because I used WMP and XP. Also would like to be able to drag and drop using windows Explorer.
However everytime I try to upgrade the firmware, the firmware upgrade application on the PC is waiting for the Zen to reboot even if it did. The player formats his dri've, then reboot, then waits forever.
I even unplugged the Zen after 30 minutes... everything is fine on the player, it still has the .0.03 firmware.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • FAQ Broken: How do I upgrade the firmware on a WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router?

I tried to view the above question in the FAQ, but it goes to the answer for a different question.
I then tried "How do I upgrade the firmware on my router?" a little further down,
but it acts like I'm not authenticated, and won't accept my Linksys Forums e-mail address
and password. When I try the password recovery, it says my e-mail address is invalid.
Can someone please point me to instructions for upgrading the firmware on my WRT54G?
Specifically, someone told me that the router needs to be listening on the default 192.168.1.1
IP address, but mine is listening on 10.1.1.2. Do I need to change this just to flash new
firmware, because that will be a little painful.
    Thanks,

Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - "Default Gateway of Your Router"...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
**To Check the Default Gateway of the router...Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
**To all the above setting using the wired computer.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Wrt160n v2 cannot ping after firmware update WRT160Nv2_v2.0.03.007_US_code.bin

    Router:  WRT160N V2
I updated the firmware because I was tired of getting "page does not exist" errors.  But after the firmware update I have not been able to ping the router using 192.168.1.1.
The Power icon on the router flashes.
When connected to the DSL modem the modem will connect to the internet and the internet light on the router will come on.
When the PC is connected to the router the router port number that you plung into icon will light up.
    Pinging 192.168.1.1 will timeout
    So far I have tried:
Hold the reset button down for 5 seconds (then another suggestion was 30 seconds,  and then another suggestion for a full minute)
(I never see any kind of response from the router as a result from holding down the reset button.)
Unplug router for a full minute
    Unplug modem
    Shutdown PC
    Plug modem back in
(wait until the lights are on the modem become active.)
Connect the router into the modem.
Plug the router into the power supply
(the modem will connect to the internet provider)
(the router will display the following icons: power symbol (flashing), internet symbol, and port number connected to the PC.)
    Ping 192.168.1.1  (timeout)
IPConfig /release (and /renew...which errors out)
I have had this router for a couple of months and I am concerned that I will not be able to take it back.  If the reset button has no affect and I cannot communicate with it I am concerned that I am in for some bad news.

Had you tried upgrading the router's firmware using wireless computer ? You should use the wired computer to upgrade the firmware...
Now as the Power Light on the router is flashing you can try steps below..
    - hold down the reset button for about 30 seconds, then unplug the device, while you are still holding down the reset button.
    - leave unplugged for about 5 seconds, while you are still holding down the reset button.
    - plug the unit back in, while you are still holding down the reset button.
    - after about 5 seconds, let go off the reset button.
Now, check if the power light is solid now...

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you have downloaded the firmware already then disconnect your modem from the router, and just connect a computer straight to the router on any one of the LAN Port's...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
