T61p docking station/ethernet cable problem

When placed in the mini docking station, my T61p laptop fails to recognize the Ethernet cable connected to the dock itself.  To  successfully use an Ethernet connection the cable must be connected directly to the Ethernet port on the thinkpad and the thinkpad must not be placed in the docking station (so the purpose of the docking station is completely defeated).  How can I successfully make an Ethernet connection through the docking station?  At this point USB and screen connections all work fine.  Thanks for any help.

Most likely a drivers issue...
Go to Lenovo site http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67829 and download Intel PRO/1000 LAN Adapter Software driver.
Version:   9.12.41.1001 Release Date: 2009/05/19
Steps to take:
Select Control Pannel
Click Administrative Tools
Click Computer Management
Scroll and expand "Device Manager"
Expand Network Adopters
Check if Intel Gigabit Network Connection is (enabled/disabled)
If Disabled, enable (right click and enable)
Here you can also uninstall,
then from the above site, download the driver and install,
then repeat earlier steps and enable adaptor
That should work for you, with or without the driver.

  • W520 docking station ethernet not working

Again another small issue with the docking station.  Before I begin, i'll let you know i've tested the router, the cables, and other sorts, and they are all working.  So i don't think that's the issue.
My issue is that when I plug my ethernet cable into the back of my docking station, i get an ip address, but cannot connect to any websites.  However, if i undock and take THAT SAME CABLE and plug it directly into the laptop, i get an ip address but can also connect to websites.  Any thoughts? i thought it might be a driver issue, but i just updated everything on the computer and still no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Not sure if this is the case with your docking station, but in the past, the ethernet NIC in the Lenovo docking bays were actually a third NIC, not a pass-thru. So it is conceivable that the IP settings (in particular Default Gateway and the DNS server addresses) are not set correctly.
Plug your docking bay back into Ethernet, and after you get your IP address, open up a command prompt, try IPCONFIG /ALL, and see what you get back.

  • Ethernet cable problems

My MacBook Pro recently started having problems connecting to the internet. In the network window it says that "Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address of such-and-such." It then lists the IP address (not self-assigned), subnet mask, router, and DNS server. The status light next to "Ethernet" on the left is green. I went through the advanced network settings and found I still had some old proxy server info activated, so I deactivated it. I also pinged the network address and had 10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, with 0.0% packet loss.
Everything should be good to go, right? Wrong. I cannot check my email with Apple Mail. I cannot access the internet.
Has anyone else had this problem, and, more importantly, has anyone found a solution? Your help is appreciated.

Have you tried another Ethernet cable?

I have the same problem , in my case if I start the laptop with the screen open, the notebook recognizes the monitor VGA, if I start with the display closed does not recognize the VGA monitor and the device manager indicates an error in the graphics card Intel. If I open or close the screen with the computer turned on, crashes and restarts.

  • Ethernet Cable Problem? Amber Light for 1 second

    Hello!
I have a Time Capsule with the following problem: the green light turns amber for 1 second each time. the firmware is updated and when I connect directly to my mac the ethernet cable from the modem works perfectly. When the light turns amber, the airport utility says that the ethernet cable is disconnected, but it is not. To the point that I've tried several cables.I dont know what more to do.

It is an unusual problem for the Gen4 you have.
    Try this.
    1. Full factory reset.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesnt flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Use just one ethernet to the computer, and ethernet to the modem from WAN port of the TC.
If the TC does not hold the connection, go to the ethernet settings on the computer preferences.. and advanced and the hardware tab.
Change the configuration to manual and set the speed to 10mbit full duplex..
You could also try half duplex.. see how that goes.. if it fails the TC is toast.
If it works move up to 100mbit full duplex and see if that works.
I would say it is a hardware failure, if you cannot maintain 100mbit.. such that you really need to get it replaced.
Do you have applecare on any computer? A Gen4 might still be under warranty or under applecare which covers peripherals.
If the TC is less than 2years old you can still buy a product with applecare that will cover it.. the cheapest is the apple TV.. talk to apple to get the exact details as the rules are complex.

your Mini does not have a builtin modem, so an Ethernet to phone jack would be absolutely pointless. you need to purchase an external USB modem that supports Mac such as this http://www.buy.com/prod/u-s-robotics-5637-56k-usb-hardware-fax-modem-usb-1-x-rj- 11-phone-line/q/loc/101/206870103.html.

No problem. It is an older monitor. But being a small business, we can't afford to discard a working monitor that costs $1500 to replace.
The annoying part is that we tried to do a lot of research prior to purchase to find out exactly what resolutions the Lenovo docking solutions supported. We asked our rep to check because of the total lack of Lenovo documenation on this. We would not have wasted all this time trying to get it to work if we had known.
Even now, no one from Lenovo has come right out and stated that their docking stations don't support Dual Link. I think that they actually have no idea.
We've been bounced around and around between the same Lenovo sales, support and customer service numbers so many times in the past three days that they are now just dropping our calls in the hope that we will go away. No one at Lenovo has offered a solution of any kind.
FYI, we've even been told that because we ordered the W540 through CDW that there is 'nothing Lenovo can do.'

  • FOR SALE - Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet, Docking Station and Keyboard Folio Case

As my daughter is insisting on a laptop, her Thinkpad Tablet and Accessories will have to go....
The tablet is the 16GB WiFi Version (1838-5SG). The Docking Station is the standard one (0A33965), as is the Keyboard Folio Case (which is a Western European keyboard type - ASM P/N 0B33512 FRU P/N 03X6354).
The Tablet has one very tiny scratch on the screen, hardly noticeable, other than that is in perfect condition (the Styuls Pen is only 4 months old). The Docking Station has a slot cut out to enable a mini HDMI Cable to be connected through the facia (to the tablet), and other than that, is in perfect condition. The Folio Keyboard Case is in perfect condition. All cables, etc are included, and the Docking Station power cable has an EU plug (note that if you live in a Country which doesn't have EU Plug sockets, a standard plug can be purchased separately from the adaptor, they normally cost pennies....)
All boxes, packaging, instructions, etc are included, including the receipts for warranty purposes. The tablet and docking station are less than 1 year old, as verified by the receipts.
I can send full info, including photos, etc, if needed.
If anyone is interested, please make me an offer.

I was thinking i could use this Motorola Wireless Keyboard, it only needs an HID bluetooth connection, the ThinkPad Tab supports HID?

  • Random pause with docking station

I regularly use my 3g 20bg iPod with my docking station and line out to a stereo receiver. I recently replaced my original docking station with a universal docking station and have started experiencing random pauses during playback. It starts after playing for about 30 minutes or so and usually occures 3 or 4 times. Then, it is fine for for as long as I use it. If I stop playing it for several minutes and then start again, I get the same pasuing again. I am using the latest version of the software(v2.3) and have reset it and restored it multiple times over the past few weeks.

Is there a reason you can't go back to the original docking station? The problem is obviously with your new universal docking station. You might want to try and return it as defective.
I'm not sure what you can do to troubleshoot the problem within the docking station.

  • Lenovo X1 Docking Station?

Hello, I have a T61P and have to decide by tomorrow if I want to order a X1 or pick a different model.  I was wondering if I can use my existing T61P docking station with the new X1.
    Would anybody know?

My information is that the X1 is going to be officially announced / launched on the 19th of this month, (at least hear in Germany), so I guess you're a little early.
That said; as the current docks are all "series 3" I would bet that the X1, (if at all dockable), is compatible with those rather than older versions. Sorry, but I have to say the X1 will not be compatible with your current dock.
Hope you can follow my logic.

  • USB 3 on Thinkpad docking station

I have a WD My Passport USB3 disk disk that runs fine directly on my T530 USB3 port. But if I connect it to my docking stations USB3 port it connects and disconnects all the time. is the a fix for this?

It could be a faulty docking station (or a problem with the design of the device). Is the problem consistent with all usb 3 ports? Have you tried other usb3 peripherals?
I think you should contact the nearest Lenovo service representative if you're still under warranty, or try another docking station with your T530 and your WD, maybe at a Lenovo dealer.

  • USB ports on 8440p docking station hang.

I have a brand new 8440p in a new docking station. After a few minutes all the USB ports on the docking station go dead. After some power resets the ports come back to life but after a few more minutes the ports hang again. The USB ports on the laptop itself still work. The laptop is running Windows 7. I have replaced the docking station already. Any ideas?

  • Problem with my new Docking Station

So it is very weird. I got my Docking Station Yesterday, I have spent like 12 hours talk to different support, which is nice but not actually helping. I download all downloadable updates, tried to install different drives, but it is just not working.
Problem is, first I think my docking station is broken, now I know the DIV port is working just fine, My USB 3.0 and 2.0 only work fine with my WD Portable Hard drives. I am sure about the USB port is not broken. But I can not connect to Ethernet with my
Ethernet cable and also I can not connect my head phone to the Dock... I have tried on another Surface Pro 3 from my friend and it seems work just fine(USB can also connect other devices). I have no idea what is wrong with my surface, seems it is a software
problem but not a hardware problem. Or maybe is it something about the damaged charging port on my Surface Pro?
    Guys, what should I do!

I download all downloadable updates, tried to install different drives, but it is just not working.
What is "Drives" do you mean "Drivers"? Please be clear.
I know the DIV port is working just fine
What is a DIV port? Do you mean DVI? The surface Pro 3 does not have a DVI port.
My USB 3.0 and 2.0 only work fine with my WD Portable Hard drives.
Your USB ports on the device, or on the Dock? If your USB ports work on the dock, then what is the problem?
THis post is very odd. At no point to you list what kind of Dock you are actually using, I assume that you have a Surface Pro 3 with the Surface Pro 3 dock, but again, I'm not sure.
First thing to do is to check the Device Connection, and verify that the machine can view each device.
Plug the machine into the dock, and plug your WD Hard disk into the dock.
Open the Device Manager (Devmgmt.msc), and set to "View --> Devices by connection"
Find your WD Hard Disk in the tree, somewhere under ACPI --> PCI --> USB 3.0 Host Controller --> Etc...
then you should be able to un-dock and re-dock, each time you should see the addition/removal of the USB devices, network adapter. IN addition, you should also see the battery icon in the tool bar change to charging, and the video should go in and out on
    your display.
If you are not getting any changes, take your dock back and try to get it repaired.
IF you *are* getting these changes, it might be time to review your software/driver problems. If all else fails restore the OS back to factory defaults. If you need further help, call Microsoft Support.
As a side note, "Microsoft Deployment Toolkit" this is not the correct forum for Surface HARdware or Driver problems. It's a forum for people who work in Corporate IT Departments.

  • T42 docking station problem

    Hi all.
Having this weird issue with one of our worker's T42. Whenever she connects her T42 to a docking station and closes the lid of the laptop, mouse starts moving around, no emails can be selected in outlook, no option to restart the computer (start->shutdown brings up the dialog window, but can't choose anything from there.)
She has tried another dock, but no difference, same problems.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Lullaby, welcome to the forum,
    Some suggestions to try;
    1) replace the dome TrackPoint cap with the Traditional "hairy" one, it has a lower profile.
    2) remove the Trackpoint cap all together
    3) ensure that the keyboard is seated properly, removal and installation instructions can be found here (You could maybe also try bending the keyboard a bit if you remove it)
    4) disable the Trackpoint using the UltraNav utility or in BIOS
As you can probably guess, I believe your problem maybe that the Trackpoint is in contact with the screen when closed.
    Hope this helps

  • Preempting problems here- BT Home Hub-ethernet cable-Airport Extreme

OK- here is the story so far. Have a summerhouse needing broadband/telephone from the main house. It is 80 metres from the main house and so unable to use WiFi to connect to our BT Home Hub (white from 2006).
The problem we needed to overcome is the distance involved and so laid a telephone cable and an ethernet cable.
First of all the ethernet connection to the BT Home Hub:
It connects fine to the BT station and runs down the garden in its "communications pipe" with the telephone lineto connect the iMac to the internet.
BUT when we tried to reconnect the Netgear (so that the laptops could be used down at the summerhouse) which once worked fine with all the MacBooks etc to this set up it refused to work.
So I dusted off the Airport Extreme and wonder- can this be made to work as a wireless router at the end of an ethernet cable plugged into a BT Home Hub (white)?
Then- does anyone have a clue if there is a phone system in the UK which permits the transfer of calls and intercom usage between handsets where the distance is too great for handsets to communicate wirelessly? Ie use the telephone line? I have an iDect system (swish bit of kit) and can make the handsets communicate with each other as long as they are within range of each other, just not when one of them is down at the summerhouse. Anyone got a solution?

Thank you for that. I understand that if I don't do this the Airport Extreme will keep trying to take over the job, right?
As it happens I haven't got an Admin Utility in my Utilities folder. I have AirPort Disk Utility and an AirPort Utility. I am on Tiger?
OK- having checked the Airport out via the ethernet cable (and without) it is fine- it was once set up as our wireless router (in the chain after a BT Voyager or something like that, one which requires a wireless box if you wanted to use it like that). The computer could see it (and was even connected to it wirelessly at one point) but only one light was ever on on it (the centre one) with the other two flashing intermittently.
At the moment the AirPort has had to be turned off because the BT Hub was not assigning IPs and anyone who came to join the network for a new session (considering we are running 4 Mac laptops...).
    What now?
    :O
